- Artist: Symphony X. Track: In The Dragon's Den. Album: Twilight In Olympus. Year: 1998. Cover by: Peter Lidström. Equipment: Fender Strat w Dimarzios, ENGL Ironball, Grossman ISO Cab. Shure sm57, Chandler Germanium preamp. Pedals: Bogner Red channel (org. version), Boss OC-2 Octave, CAE Buffer. Rhythms were tracked in D standard, solos were tracked in E flat to accommodate the Strat's 22 fret limitation. Pitch shifter (octave up) at the end of the keyboard solo was added in mixdown. The lead themes and ending arpeggios were double tracked.
How is it even possible to play so accurately and cleanly
Tons of practice
This is absolutely killer dude 👌🏽
The best song off of "Twilight in Olympus" and one of the first metal songs I ever heard!
*_Fantástico, tomara que venham muitos vídeos tão bom quantos estes.!!!_* 👏👏👏👏❤❤❤❤
You're a beast! I always look forward to your updates!
Beautiful piece of music and beautiful playing
Yngwie + Gilbert + Sherinian (maybe?)+ Becker. Michael Romeo did his homework! (And so did you ;))
best cover in youtube of this song far, you're amazing making pedals presets they sound really good and clean
Awesome to see Michael Romeo's work being featured here.
Perfect,
Criminally underrated cover channel
Loco sos impresionante!!! gracias por compartir. Como suena esa viola!

Wonderful, Michel Romeo is very good, my favorite progressive metal band!!! Your interpretation IS AMAZING!!!
It was wonderful and magnificent. I have no words to describe the beauty of your cover. Well done.
Thank you for the kind words
This was so perfect, i clearly was expecting Through the Looking Glass to come in the end!
Awesome work mate!
Thanks and cheers
Jesus! this looked perfect!
Fantastic! Michael Romeo would be very proud!
yayayayayayayayayayayayayaya TOP
Great!!!
Sir, you are a monster player! Romeo is criminally underrated player. Glad you covered this. Are you going to cover Sails of Charon? That would be interesting
Thank you. I'll keep your suggestion in mind. The next upcoming video is an Uli track!
Another Uli track... Cast Away Your Chains I suppose ;)
@@ClassicSoloSpotlight looking forward to some Uli ;)
Rock hard! Live free!! Hell yeah bro! Thanks for those btw... Please make more Symphony X covers and all else too! 😁👌
I certainly will!
@@ClassicSoloSpotlight Nice!! Thank you! ✌
Jesus christ. This is cleaner than Romeo himself plays it. I mean every note is so clear it sounds like they just ring out on their own. Insane
Thank you. I might add that my videos are "studio" recordings, meaning I take the time to get parts nice & clean. If I did just one single "live performance" it would not be as clean.
@@ClassicSoloSpotlight That is to be expected, that doesn't take away from the fact they are played practically flawlessly. Nice transcription of the keyboard solo as well, and the fact you had patches for all the tone changes was super cool. I imagine you must have done some pro music work?
@@hyde4004 I have a background as active musician and studio engineer. A few records under my belt, yes. Mostly teaching and transcribing nowadays.
@@ClassicSoloSpotlight Right, fair enough. The experience as a transcriber shows, everything sounded bang on, at least to my ears. Really impressive work!
wow
Dude you straight nailed every solo Romeo did perfectly AND you played Mike Pinella's solo note for note perfectly, I've NEVER seen a guitarist do that before !!!! 🤘🤘
Glad you liked it. Thanks
lo mejor q he visto hoy!!
Insane 🔥🔥🔥
Mind blown…
I don't care if you like this style or not, you have to give the maddest respect to this guy. This is A LOT of work. May I ask how long it took you to learn it and master it to this level? Freaking amazing!!
Thank you! This one i've actually just listened to regularly and taught to my students for years to improve their picking... The only thing I had to sit down and actually learn for this cover was the keyboard solo.
@@ClassicSoloSpotlight When I saw you play the keyboard solo I went f#&k yeahh. Well done sir!
Perfect!
Amazing performance !!! You rock dude !!!
That's so sick! In the solo section you've even played the keyboard solo! Thumbs up!
gooooooooooooooood agarrate donde puedas!!
Damn this simply rips!
Love the right hand work here. You could play this unplugged, it would still sound great.
Amazing performance!
Thank you!
Amazing playing, i really wish i was your student so i can learn to play like this lol
Once again awesome bro. I love your playing. 👍
Thank you, happy to hear that!
hahah shit that solo is SICK BRO! lets GOOOO
Even did the keys solo hahah yes
Amazing!!!
Amazing!, I love your videos, they make me want to grab the guitar! greetings from Argentina
That's great, happy to hear that.
Carai! Mandou até o solo do teclado 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
So killer!🔥🤘🏼
Thank you, Mr. Gower. I love your amp mods, they sound spectacular.
So clean and tasty!
Unbelievably good. I imagine those are still single coils? Though the description says they're dimarzios. So, so clean. And far better tone than Romeo had in this era. Crisp, clear, still heavy, not piercing. Keep it up cause i want to see more!
Wow, man that's fantastic!
Thank you, glad you liked it!
@@ClassicSoloSpotlight I did, and shared it with my friends and they liked your videos as well .. Keep rocking 🤘🏻
great job ;)
THANKY YOU VERY MUCH FOR SYNTH SOLO TRANSCRIPTION ,!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I dreamed of this , and any videos here , no one never made this , you're the first , it's a big pleasure , thank you again , and I love single mike of strato for this solo , i can have a little of malmsteen sound with my favorite guitar player , very good job. Arpeggios are perfect too , thks for this job. I've noticed it's not a really ' single coil ' sound , may be , you have tricked with a dual inside on the rythm sound?
Correct, the bridge pickup (for the riffs) are a single-sized Dimarzio humbucker. The neck is a true single coil.
fucking brilliant mate. mad respect
Glad you liked it!
Legend says he has to put his fingers on ice after playing this song
This is so brutal 🙉🙉🙉
Ugh the string skipping has always been really hard for me. But this video gave me motivation to learn this song for good
wow with strat man...
2:33 that has to the most difficult part with the string skipping and ascending riffs. Dammit man!!! My hat is off to you and look forward to you New videos!
Thanks! Yes, those octave skips are crazy.
Romeo is on the list of reasons why I play drums
Really great habilities. Can you play some Tiluland covers please? Tnx!
here come michael remeo wow
Freakin Great! What bridge and bridge pickup are you using? Looks like a Gotoh bridge and Chopper pickup
Pretty close, Gotoh vintage bridge + locking tuners, the Dimarzio is a Pro Track which is a bit darker than the chopper.
Wait...isn't michael double picking in the 2:08 section?
What pick do you use?
Vou rodar o vídeo bem lento pra vê se aprendo 😁😁
man whenever i listen to this solo i just want to quit guitar
Question how do you handle playing this stuff on a Strat considering a Strat only has 22 frets?
Great question. If I remember correctly, I think I retuned to standard for one of the solos or both, can't remember.
@ClassicSoloSpotlight
Ah I see that's interesting I know there's a couple of ways you can get that extra octave... but omg it's so good to see someone using a Strat it really is the best guitar ever keep up the good work don't mind me drooling over your amazing playing 😜🤘
Perfectly covered. Impressive
Hi, awesome playing 👏🏻. What tremolo system do you have on this guitar? It looks very different where the trem bar inserts.
Thanks. It's a Gotoh 510TS-SF2 bridge, the bar pops in instead of screws in.
@@ClassicSoloSpotlight Thanks for letting me know.
How do you even learn that? Loved how you took the keyboard part to
Glad you liked it. It's fun playing the keyboard licks, I usually just listen and learn it.
Impressive man! Can you share the tabs?
Starting from 3:14 it seems ultra complicated
This song is Deceptively fast as SHIT. He looks relaxed...but it's so fast. I think my technique needs work lol
