I’m portuguese and 65 and I also remember quite well. I loved Lulu’s expressions and even if at the time I didn’t understood a word boom bang a bang was quite catchy for a child. And don’t worry about stupid childish people like @Mike8981… just ignore them. Congrats. 😊
I am now 69 years old. I was 14 (almost 15) years old back then, and living in Spain in 1969 . I remember the hype about this particular Eurovision, and also remember watching the show live. Instantly, I loved Lulu and this song. I did not know a single word that she was saying; and I was mesmerized by that. I bought the 45 RPM of Lulu singing this song, and brought it with me to the US when we relocated to New York. I knew the French words to the French and Spanish songs, though. I left Madrid on December 23, 1969 and landed in New York, and to this day, I have never gone back. I was main-streamed at school at the beginning of 1970. By December of 1970, I knew the language, and the next time I played the song, I knew all the words...I still have that record that I bought in Madrid in 1969 as a keepsake. 😃
This very joyful classic brings millions of very happy memories back of my past life ...Long live the 60s x we were their xxxxx lol to all fans Jane 10/01/22023 x✔✔✔✔
Such a confident and expressive performance, all the more remarkable considering how young she was and, especially, that she never liked the song. I know this will sound corny, but this video has long inspired me to do my best in circumstances that I'm not too fond of
I've always loved listening and watching Lulu my entire life and I'm now 58 ! So i think we can say she did alright in her career lol. Cracker of a song that, cheesy but i still love it even now.
Still a catchy tune today! Lulu (who didn't particularly liked the song) was supported by the great British background singers Sue Glover and Sunny Leslie...
As a 7and 8 year old, i remember watching her shows every week. I think they were on TV every Saturday night? Didn't quite understand the lyrics to those songs but, i thoroughly enjoyed the tunes. It was all Rhythm unlike todays music.
@@quintenwitteman9344, there is so much wonderful music from the 60s, 70s and into the 80s. Try asking Alexa for one year at a time and you get a great play list, not just the pop hits. If Alexa stops say ‘Alexa keep playing’ to drill down into the year even more! Remember, one year at a time!

Is she the puppy in the window one. The biggest lulu I know is from Harry Enfeild Oh how we howled at that 💩. Me and my brother would always try to make each other have acceidents anyway. But after we saw that awhile we let our sister start playing.
Marie McDonald McLaughlin Lawrie [see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lulu_(singer)] is still going strong (I'm writing 2023-5-14), and has been pretty busy; Bond film 1974, for example.
Songs were happier stuff then. Singers and musicians had to be a lot better than today. And they were. The eurovision atmosphere was so much better to later years. Mayb Uk and Ireland can get around to improving . For a good while now they have been poor.
my GOD what an obnoxious song… it sounds like it was written by men who never had a girlfriend poor Lulu!!! how many other revolting tunes did she have to pretend that she loved?
Poor Lulu, surely oneof the worst Eurovision song winners ( and there have been many!) If you like Lulu, you know this. To pretend otherwise is disrespectful
I thought she was American whats she doing in euro vision. And! Eurovision is that old. Damn. Idk where she's from but ide guess not uk. Cos she sounds American only some Euros sound American when they try to speak English. You know. They do it wrong end up sounding American.
4kin Scottish. So I was almost right. I know a Scottish girl who sounds American too. They say all she did was watch US TV now look what they done. Her daddy hung himself later. No joke. She found him too. Poor girl.
See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lulu_(singer) - Marie McDonald McLaughlin Lawrie is Scottish (born in Lennoxtown, Stirlingshire, and grew up in Dennistoun, Glasgow). So quite entitled to be in Eurovision for the UK! Also, Eurovision is for countries whose broadcasters have joined the European Broadcasting Union - it includes Israel and Australia! The ESC started in 1956 (the EBU 1950).
I'm 62! I remember perfectly that evening. All my family in front of the tv. Together. Happy. With very few things. I miss those days!
Give ya things away? 😂

This is one of the best songs!
What is about this song and Lulu that brings so much joy.
Such a clever song. Great chords, modulations and key shifts.
She looks kind of cute with those facial expressions and hand gestures...and not to mention that lovely dress!
Sweet song
Love the inoffensive lyrics, EXCELLENT use of HUG & CUDDLE.
She had the bedroom eyes though!
Well, also the Beatles in "I Saw Her Standing There" say "She was just seventeen and you know what I mean", the age of consent in the UK being 16....
@@Jojoseahorse OMG
Gorgeous! What a voice! And so cute 🥰
What a great song I remember this reallyLulu your the best!❤

What an absolute POPPET. Always loved Lulu.
Lulu wonderful

From Lulu sublime to Olly alexander ridiculous. Didn't realise until now that she was beautiful!

It is a 3/4 song in that catchy tempo as a French musette, not unsurprisingly audience loved it
Yes I love old songs ❤🙂🎧🎤📽️🥁🎸🧁🪈

Him and Her!
Sue & Sunny on backing vocals
Winner of the ESC 1969 with three others!🤔😆
Her dress is so cute
sweet.
Better than any Eurovision song today
Yes, you and I are posting just after the 2023 final, and I already can't remember any of them.
@@G6JPG They were terrible. Many of the songs stayed in one key throughout. Awful
That's for sure. And the 60s and 70s will always be the best music and decades
100 times better than the bilge that we're fed with these days.

Here due to Him & Her. Love Russell Tovey!
Why did we never hear more from her?....great, powerful voice
May be you are in the USA, Commonwealth countries heard heaps from her.

Winner of the ESC 1969 .
Well, one of four joint winners that year!
" the good old days " lulu " fillet of fish type of woman !"😊
What a sexy girl. What a marvoulous song. What a great success when i was a child. Love her forever!
Fue un festival maravilloso.Gano Salome, pero podia haber ganado Jacques o Lulu
Monty Python’s classic “Bing, Tiddle, Tiddle, Bong” was inspired after this won Eurovision in a four way tie in 1969.
This song could easily be a James Bond theme.
My grandad was 16
my scottish baby
I am 69 now I was 15 when she won 🎉
Too good to get selected these days. Too decent as well
should have won from rob
Eh? _Did_ win! (As did three others!)
Two big pretty sparkling round eyes she got..
It may have co-won the Eurovision Song Contest but Lulu hated singing it. She never performs it now.
Why?
I understand she was big in Germany and this song reminds me of a polka.
is it me or is her voice out of sink
If so (singing like a drain? 🙂), then it's the clip or UA-cam at fault - she certainly wasn't miming.
Metallica's cover of this sounds nothing like the original.
Back when it was a song contest not the flashing lights and political voting sham it is now
Acting like a toddler to appeal to those that like that sort of thing.
