You all prolly dont care at all but does anybody know of a way to log back into an instagram account?? I somehow lost the login password. I love any tricks you can give me.
One thing that people should note watching this...That shoulder check he used? Techniques such as that are considered to be extremely useful by MMA fighters who specialize in grappling and the shoulder strike is one of the most vital techniques in Bajiquan used to throw any opponent off balance, thereby opening them up to more strikes. So anyone who tells you that Kung Fu in all it's forms and methods is impractical can shove it. There's a reason these fighting arts have endured for centuries. There may be bad teachers and people too rigid to modify the art to work in the fashion that best suits them, but that does not mean that the styles are useless. I'm pretty sure anyone who was taught western boxing or Krav Maga by a terrible teacher wouldn't do so well either. Frankly, much of what I said could be applied to any fighting art. If a boxer does not develop a way of using the techniques they have learned that works for them, they will not do well in a sport fight or in a self defense situation. I think it also needs to be said, that as with any discipline there are people who may excel at it but really should not be teaching. This is actually a problem on college campuses where in order to keep getting the proper backing for there research, said researchers are told that they have to teach for X number of hours and a number of these people either do not wish to teach or really are not cut out for it no matter how knowledgeable they are. They could be an expert in physics, biochemistry, psychology, or whatever and be able to apply and use the knowledge they have quite well, but they may not be suited to teaching.
A lot of people prefer to look at the world as black and white though. You see the same attitude people have towards martial arts as to how they read the news: glance at the headlines and then go on opinionated rants
Well there's alot of kung fu arts banned from UFC like if a guy who practices legit tiger claw for year's that can literally rip tree bark off with his bare hands and can stick his fingers thru hanging pig's.
Right at 4 minutes It looked like Will had to get off camera because he was trying not to laugh because it's really hard not to wonder, at first, what that man is doing to a tree. I went and rewatched the movement against the tree after that nice explanation of the dragon waist: I went and tried it for myself and I found some real cool fluidity things that I need to work on for better hip movement. As always it was a fantastic video thank you for sharing

I'm seeing a couple of points where this martial art integrates with boxing. Like using the twisting of the body to hide the next strike, covering the chin with the shoulder, and also coordinating hip and shoulder to add power. Really interesting martial art.

I like that he associates it with physics. I'm learning Kung Fu as well and its something I often discuss with my teacher and it helps me understand my training more. People often ask me is Kung Fu effective or why do I think its useful and what can I show them. For me these principles based on science and tactical thinking is the reason why I train in this art and not simply mma or other art but it's hard to demonstrate to people and harder to do so in a fight without some level of cooperation. I think taking these principles and adapting to whatever martial art you train would be valuable and I hope other people eventually see this rather the dismissing it at face value. At first I thought it is a Chinese version of the Dirty Dances. Then I assumed it’s basics like exercise for conditioning yourself. At last I focused on how this 80 yo Mister moves. If it only helps to stay so physically able at 80, it’s a great thing
I lived in Shanghai in 2002. I made friends with a xinyi master with the surname of Man. He was a restaurant owner in Long Bai San Cun. I lost contact with him. I didn’t train with him because I was training with Ma Yue Liang’s son in Wu family taiji. But Master Man and I became good friends, and I would eat at his restaurant at least once a week. He borrowed my Chinese phrase book and translated his menu into English for me.
That’s cool! There are a few videos of someone surnamed Man showing applications of Xinyi, wonder if its the same guy. He looked short and a bit stocky, with uncut hair.
It might help Tony if he was aware that Open is from the ground and Close is from the weight pulling down; if the back is too in-curved the flow from the ground is hindered.

Update: Thanks to Will and Toby, I reconnected with Li Laoshi and met him in person this morning for the first time in over 15 years. He's still vibrant and happy to share his knowledge at the age of 84. I hope to train with him again later this year.
Hi, did master Li wrote book about xin yi or made other video? I try to find dvd or others videos from him and fail. I am surprise he looks like someone who like to share his knowledge if he doesn't make dvd he would be great to do it. Or maybe you can upload some video in the future!
Pretty cool to see the similarities with what Master Hu Zhengsheng teaches in the Shaolin Xin Yi Ba ... lots of the same concept, some interesting exercises to practice the gong fa!
This is great! Every time I think I've pretty much seen all the major Chinese styles somebody comes along and shows me something new. Sometimes it seems there is an infinite variety of styles and methods. 佩服, 佩服!

A very good video, presenting a very good knowledge explained by a very good master. But, my inner self fails me not to imagine watching 2:39 and 4:09 without context. 😂
I follow you a Long time a go and never dissapoint me you Have Good documentaries sbout The differents Chinese Styles thanks s lot for sharing your experience bro
He is so vibrant and agile for 80 years! For me that again is one of many examples that some external styles seem to keep more healthy than internal. Many Taiji masters dont even get 80 and often look floppy and not in good health.
All martial arts are very interesting. Tradition to pass on skills and knowledge. I feel as the saying goes many roads lead to the top of the mountain but the view will be the same. Thanks for sharing.
Great video!!! This channel is a great blessing. I would like to learn more about this, but stressing the ins and outs of the footwork in its deeper aspects? For exapmple the shifting of weights and the foot pressure. It appears that the hips should be in perpetual motion during this exercise. Is this true?
Another student of this teacher who is in Los Angeles is about to release a series of tutorials on Xinyi Liuhe. I’ll share it on my social media once it’s released
Thanks for sharing! I've been interested in learning more about Xinyi Liuhe Quan and maybe someday training in it. It was really interesting to see the breakdown of the basics and fundamentals of the style and the methodology of the way they're taught and why. Keep up the good content!
I like the training of internal and external totally together. Or am I missing something? Is there a requirement or prerequisite of Qi control before any if this? I would think that focus on Qi control is step one. Am I right or can we train external and Qi at the same time? Please straighten me out in my way of understanding all this. I love these older masters, especially the upbeat ones who are mellow and happy. I look up to them, not the ego tripping nuts. Ego gets in the way of everything. You can advance with ego, but at some point it blocks and I think it's better to work on killing it ASAP. Well, killing is an extreme word for it. I mean minimizing it, because you do need ego, but you must have control of it , or end up doing things you will regret, like hurting people more than necessary. Ego is bad for control, and control is key.
It really is a lot to get your head around. I think the answer is to find balance between internal and external at that particular time in your life. But here is the thing, your external abilities will fade with time unless you train constantly. They can also be robbed from you by injury. Your internal abilities stay until you die. I totally agree with your insight into ego.
I can speak on this as I only been studying and teaching a short time as I externally experience life's uncertainties. However all want a permanent fix on a broken life span. Go figure... etc.
Both are required. We see too many who's got diseases like stroke, cardiac ones, or death suddenly, because they concentrate on either hard only or soft only.
Just like lifting a weight, your muscles will accommodate the demand being put on it and will strengthen over time. The Qi will develop when you put a demand on your intent/will. The key point being, development will happen if/when a demand is put on it. So rather than looking at things in a binary way of only being internal versus external. Think of it as one complementing the other.
“Actions defined a man, words were just fart in the wind” - Mario Puzo, The Last Don... Basically, this teacher said you have to at least understand the idea, then the rest depends on dedicated practice... Just like elementary algebra, if you can’t get it, then engineering is not for you.
Good morning, I just saw your work with different Hsing Yi teachers. I wish to ask you if in your research you have found references to Grandmaster Yuantao. My teacher was a student of his. I've been looking for information for years and I can't find anything other than Robert Smith's book. Thanks for your interest
Thank you for your quick response. I send you this link (it is the book by Robert Smith, the master is the person in the photographs), which is the only reference I have of this Grand Master who died in the 80's. It seems that he was a professor of Hsing yi of Cheng Mang Ching, of Choung ta Cheng and of kuo lien ying, however it seems that he has left no trace
What meaning does “Liuhe” have? Or is it a family name? One of the most fascinating Monkey Steals Peach videos yet - great explanations & demos. Hope I’m as bright-eyed as Li Jun Hua at 80! Excellent series, guys - thanks for sharing it!
According to the esteemed master Adam hsu who amongst other attributes was a personal bodyguard to Taiwan president , has stated that we should continue to train external martial arts very hard to maintain health and not take the easy way out to train tai chi which some people feel is easier. See Adam hsu debating martial arts chapters 15, and 16 utube and see chapter 17 as well . Also he has stated that a lot of Taiwan tai chi masters still train in zingy quan . Love the videos from monkey steals peach . Amazing 👌
The point that masterr hsu is putting to us all is that if we want to cultivate our health, then tai chi alone will not do it. . For example modern science validates that Qigong and meditation will spark up our mitochondria , but so does HIT training . . Yin and yang, can't he one with out the other.
What I realised over years is that masters from external styles often are much more agile and vibrant and not seldom get older. Many from Taiji styles only get around 70, Yang Chengfu und Yang Banhou only made it into their 50ies.
I would love to see if you can find Xin Yi Liu He Ba Fa on the mainland with some verifiable information. There's so many myths and unverified stories repeated online, and the Wikipedia page is just completely non-skeptical. I wonder if there really are no links, as claimed, between Xin Yi Liu He Ba Fa and Xin Yi or Xin Yi Liu He, because there are a lot of similarities between these and the Xin Yi Liu He Ba Fa style that I learnt (which is not the wavy wushu looking ones you can find on UA-cam). For my money, Xin Yi Liu He Ba Fa is just a syncretic style developed by people who've studied different "internal" martial arts, but primarily the ones related to Xin Yi, Xin Yi Liu He, Xing Yi, and possibly Ba Gua, and their similarities in movements, philosophies and names are not coincidental.
No, it's exhale on both. I don't know why he said in and out, because what he seemed to be explaining was about the direction of force. When you are using force from the back you shout Yi, and when you use force from the front you use Ha. If you watch my Song Family Xingyi episode, they go into the difference between force from the back and front in much more detail... it might help give context to this.
@@MonkeyStealsPeach A lot of years ago, I learned Xingyiquan. My teacher said there was a "yin sound" (it sounds "hng!") made by compressing the organs, another sound "yang" (ha!), released from the abdomen (dantian), and a third one, that was yi-ya!, the first part (yi) ascending across Dumai and the last part (ya) following the descending path of Renmai. He said the yi was an inner sound (a kind of vibration inside the body), ha an outer sound (that is, releasing the force out) and the third, a combination of both. I don't know if this can be of some help, but the explanations in the video sounds familiar to me very easily. Thanks for this interesting video and I hope you enjoy a very happy new year!
Oh, didn't know you guys are also based in Shanghai. Would be nice to meet one time, I know many Chinese sifus here you might be interested in interviewing :)
Fighting Arts of England yup I couldn’t help but to chuckle out loud! 😂 Then I imagined the one attractive woman in the class “stroking the tree” as it were and everyone practicing his straight face!
Xing yi come from Dai family xin yi quan but "more simple" only linear foot step. Dai family xin yi quan and xin yi lui he quan are cousin. If you want to learn intenal martial art, Da cheng quan is a good choise : ua-cam.com/video/l6lZrZdvSkE/v-deo.html
I see that the German guy is softly striking the tree. Is he doing that for demonstration purposes, or are you really supposed to be gentle? I would assume he's supposed to strike it hard to condition his limbs. At least that's what I think
point of the ghost striking the tree is the same that is found in stop your strikes 1inch from your target in karate. The student throws the technique repeatedly with in the patterned to train it to be reflexive and used only with in the structure of the form. The student also uses the tree as a target and guide for application. If the student starts to lose control the tree will bite him for it. It's application training, not body/hand striking conditioning. if you watch the start of the application, he finds is range/distance with brushing of his fingers, and only when his hand reaches the relaxed limited of his structure then he accelerates the hand by waist pulling and circle whipping up and out to strike.
Thanks. I was commenting on the liuhe dazhuang. I wouldnt want to get bruising on my hand. Yes, for the yaoshuan ba he is using it as point for focus as you mentioned
Here's some more conditioning exercises as taught my Master Li ua-cam.com/play/PLZP78OSHPt6rBvq3TaawU_g676Tkx1ISZ.html You must remain relaxed and focused or you get hurt. Master Li only taught this after I'd been training with him daily for about a year IIRC. The skin does not get callused. It is "Internal" style conditioning, as opposed to more "External" methods that toughen the skin.
Sadly and obviously, Chinese communism has wiped out most of their culture. The essence died, and showmanship thrived. It’s really sad what they did to a once noble civilization
It's why we need more young people to train in Chinese martial arts to preserve these arts. It's a shame there are fewer and fewer teachers like this to pass these arts down. It's also why we should spread it beyond just for Chinese but something everyone should be practicing.
The world isnt black and white unfortunately. Yes, a lot was lost because of tragic events like the Cultural Revolution, but the decline in Chinese culture began long before that. Since the late 19th century there was a lot of push and pull between modern reformists and traditionalists. Events like the Boxer Rebellion, Taiping Rebellion and of course the Opium Wars and Japanese invasion all took their toll. Then there was the huge famines that swept much of northern China. The Cultural Revolution was just the straw on the camels back really. At the end of the day, there’s a lot of problems here, but people in China have it better than they did for the past 150 years.
@@blockmasterscott I am Chinese but raised with Western values and I have to agree. I am guessing its due to our differing cultural values. Things like martial arts or fighting isn't seen as something positive and more lower class and brutish over there and has no social value whereas here we see it as a sign of accomplishment, fighting vs our enemies, fighting vs our demons, fighting vs our environment etc. Then there is the type of men women are attracted to. The rich bookish clean cut type guy vs the gruff macho athletic dude will also have an influence on what guys wills spend their time doing. I find for Westerners there is a bit of romanticizing of other cultures. Other people might find it cultural appropriation but for me I find at least someone is keeping up tradition.
Xin Yi Ba is a better style overall it was made by an Angolan man bodiharama which only has 4 moves and infinitely better principles then all other versions of Chinese xin yi
With the greatest respect 🙇🏽♂️, Please 🙏🏽 explain for the benefit of we interested martial arts enthusiasts, ignorant of the esotericisms of Kung Fu how apparently ‘humping’ a tree 🌲 or walking like a chicken 🐓 helps in self-defence. I have no doubt that it does and that this is an effective martial art - but for the sake of we ignorant observers, please explain. 🙏🏽
This is basics : the foot work is essential for training and actual fighting. Ji BU is the basic foot step it use in every movements in xin yi. LONG PAN SHU is for internal training, the master said "practice until your body cooperate with you" best advice ever.
No, you don't really understand Taiji if you think so. Taiji and Xingyi are quite similar on several points, but they have some distinct differences on the training method as well as on the fighting strategy and on how the philosophical concepts should be applied in the art.

I want to see more of this Master. This put together some parts for me in its wholeness. Really good 💫
Do you have more videos of him?
Have always loved Xinyi Liu He. Thanks Will, wonderful vid. Wish there was more footage of their training routines though 😥
always love watching your martial arts journey! keep up your good work. Warm regards from Indonesia
One of the best episodes !
Well, Xinyi Liuhe is classed as an internal system. But I know what you mean, when styles are too soft they fail to keep you so strong
This is the second video with Dr.Zhang and Xinyiliuhequan: "BT 411 Q & A "Ask A SIfu" XIN YI PT 2."
Hey @pz3j, I studied with Li Jun Hao. The weight on the foot moves around the foot as the body moves
Happy New Year, Great channel
great teacher, really wise. thanks for the video, very inspiring and instructive. A big hug from Uruguay
Thanks for sharing! I've been interested in learning more about Xinyi Liuhe Quan and maybe someday training in it. It was really interesting to see the breakdown of the basics and fundamentals of the style and the methodology of the way they're taught and why.
Keep up the good content!
So valuable information. Great video. Thanks!
Elliot from DOA6 brought me here,cause I'm a martial artist enthusiast :3
i'd like to see some sort of demonstration of how effective it is like match or something else.
Fantastic documentary, thanks!
Such a kind man!
Check out this video of Dr.Zhang explaining Xinyiliuhequan: "BT 411 The Xin Yi (Mind Mindfulness) Master Yuanxia Zhang PT 1"
Link please
Yes master we need to do more tree hugging.
Sorry I’ve never heard of him
Thank you for your quick response.
Glad you enjoyed it! Liu He means Six Harmonies. Its been explained a few times in the Shaolin and Xingyi series, so check them out
Ah: foot-hand, elbow-knee, shoulder-hip. Thanks!
Who is the lineage of this master
According to the esteemed master Adam hsu who amongst other attributes was a personal bodyguard to Taiwan president , has stated that we should continue to train external martial arts very hard to maintain health and not take the easy way out to train tai chi which some people feel is easier. See Adam hsu debating martial arts chapters 15, and 16 utube and see chapter 17 as well . Also he has stated that a lot of Taiwan tai chi masters still train in zingy quan . Love the videos from monkey steals peach . Amazing 👌
it depends on how u train taiji^^ slower outside move is faster inside move....^^
The point that masterr hsu is putting to us all is that if we want to cultivate our health, then tai chi alone will not do it. . For example modern science validates that Qigong and meditation will spark up our mitochondria , but so does HIT training . . Yin and yang, can't he one with out the other.
@@louisdoufexis6280 again....what is taiji for you?
What I realised over years is that masters from external styles often are much more agile and vibrant and not seldom get older. Many from Taiji styles only get around 70, Yang Chengfu und Yang Banhou only made it into their 50ies.
Master showing the body method/training the body.
Wonderful!
Thanks for posting. :)
this Video is so good Will thank you
This is how I learned xylh. Awesome!
The sound Yi help to rise energy the sound Ha help to go energy down or out? So when we inheal Yi and exheal Ha it is Microorbit?
This sounds a lot like what they do in Shaolin. They have several sounds that accompany different kinds of power release.
very nice. can you show also the qigong exercises. great work. thank you
Those trees are all completely worn down 😮
That old guy looks like he moves pretty quick
Oh, didn't know you guys are also based in Shanghai. Would be nice to meet one time, I know many Chinese sifus here you might be interested in interviewing :)
That would be awesome, send me a message on my Facebook page and we can talk thete
To juddge if a Chinese is a wushu master or not,it depends on whether he uses a big tree to practice
"Attribute training"... nice...
Ok but WHAT HAPPENED IN REAL LIFE LIKE IN MMA?
Surely he must have written books on the concepts.
Until 9:24 very similar to Bai Yuan TongBei Quan:)
Course possible from start to professional martial arts
Does he have any chi gung practise to go with this kung fu ?
He's 80 years old??
Julia Chang brought me here
Sorry but I couldn't stop laughing at 2:35 🤣😂🤣😂. Otherwise I would very much like to be this fit when I'm 80 😄
Treinamos aqui no Brasil xing muito raro aqui
hi how do u use the sound yi ? when u push someone with sound ha
in the downward movements as demonstrated at the end of the line drills he does
That first exercise looks a bit suspect to me
Fighting Arts of England yup I couldn’t help but to chuckle out loud! 😂 Then I imagined the one attractive woman in the class “stroking the tree” as it were and everyone practicing his straight face!
Muscle coordination and getting loose maybe? That's all I can think of lol
Figured it was body mechanics based, it does look silly though lol. Plenty of exercises do.
LMAO
😝😁😁😁
Look quite different from xingyi of wang shen zhai.
Maybe way more difficult to learn
Xing yi come from Dai family xin yi quan but "more simple" only linear foot step. Dai family xin yi quan and xin yi lui he quan are cousin.
If you want to learn intenal martial art, Da cheng quan is a good choise : ua-cam.com/video/l6lZrZdvSkE/v-deo.html
To-buy-as 😂 Hint: To-bee-as
That's awkward now!
How to contact german Tobi?
Send me a PM on my facebook page and I'll put you in touch
The old master is 80 going on 60.
I don't think so!!!
If your master said is true of beinf flexible, how come he not that flexible.
Dead or Alive Gen Fu anyone?
I see that the German guy is softly striking the tree. Is he doing that for demonstration purposes, or are you really supposed to be gentle? I would assume he's supposed to strike it hard to condition his limbs. At least that's what I think
I'm not too sure, maybe that's how he was told how to do it. I was taught to use a lot more force, just enough to get some light bruising.
point of the ghost striking the tree is the same that is found in stop your strikes 1inch from your target in karate.
@@eatingbitter1756 I never seen that before
Thanks. I was commenting on the liuhe dazhuang. I wouldnt want to get bruising on my hand. Yes, for the yaoshuan ba he is using it as point for focus as you mentioned
Here's some more conditioning exercises as taught my Master Li ua-cam.com/play/PLZP78OSHPt6rBvq3TaawU_g676Tkx1ISZ.html
You must remain relaxed and focused or you get hurt.
What I always found ironic is that it's Westerners that are diligent on keeping traditional Chinese martial arts around.
This pretty legit, there is a lot of daoist the forms.
Shenmue 4life
说的时候天下无敌,上台就有心无力. Sad but true
已经80多岁,他哪儿会上台?
I taught my girlfriend the first exercise. I practice on the tree, she on me.
Tree abuse!!!!!
As long as they only rub their arms on the tree.... ; )
Is that pole dancing ? Just kidding
Lambada!
Xingyi = tai chi with actual combat.
No, you don't really understand Taiji if you think so. Taiji and Xingyi are quite similar on several points, but they have some distinct differences on the training method as well as on the fighting strategy and on how the philosophical concepts should be applied in the art.
I can't take this seriously. Tree hugging is beyond me.
I can’t stop laughing. This is so wrong
