I bought my 2024 Soul S on January 24th, so we're about 10 days in. This morning on a drive, our mileage was 44.9. (The car is supposed to get 27/33/30). I took a picture of the screen, we were so amazed. :-). I love everything about my Surf Blue Soul!
@@johnkonde1975 Thank you! I have never driven a car that suited me so perfectly. It's so beautiful and solid and comfortable. Still can't believe it's mine! And the mileage is unexpectedly amazing! The guys at Kia keep telling me they want me around when someone comes to look at a Soul. LOL
@@kevindoran4938 WE still LOVE our Kia Soul. We have had it now for 8 months. We still get 46 mpg or more generally, including when we're highway driving. :-).
I've always found the Soul to be a great value in this small CUV class. In the era of $35K Honda Civics and Toyota Corolla, it is refreshing to see Kia have some restraint in raising prices...just to raise prices. Yes, Kia did cost cut tremendously on the lighting at a time when LEDs are virtually standard on most new vehicles, and I would gladly trade the small sunroof for standard LED projectors. But taken as a whole, inclusive of the ride quality and noise levels being a class or two above what this Soul is, in addition to the amount of ample space it provides, it remains a great choice.
Automakers have jacked up the price of their affordable models for 2024 expecting high demand as Americans return to more practical spending habits in this post-pandemic economy. I'll bet a lot of folks would like to go back in time to 2020 and buy one of these when its starting price was under $20k and financing was cheap.
Covid really fucked us, eh? I very much so miss when things were cheaper than they are. It's like prices on EVERYTHING were jacked up by ludicrous amounts in less than 4 years. It's crazy.
Actually the soul is like $2000-$4500 cheaper for the top trim than it was 10 years ago. They used to go up to about 30k fully loaded (included a panoramic roof though) this was in… 2017 when I last car shopped.
This is a perfect car for city driving with occasional highway driving. My friend has a 2020/21 Soul and he is still using it without any issues. With winter tires on it, it will move around in snow without any problem. Not to mention the amazing 2nd row seating and cargo space, especially compared to the super cramped CX30.
This is fantastic value for money, especially since Toyota and Honda are starting to price their economy cars out of most people’s budget. Sure, the Toyota and Honda are more fun to drive, hold their value better and are more reliable, but 25K for a very well equipped, very practical, boxy new car with a warranty is awesome. Kia and Hyundai are really hitting it out of the park.
Cars have been around for decades with halogen headlights; I see no safety hazard with halogen headlights. I find the LED lighting to be a safety hazard as they often blind drivers coming in the opposite direction especially when added to the fact that many people leave their fog lights on all the time when they are only intended to be used in bad weather. There’s too much light coming off the front of these new cars. It’s really not safe to blind other drivers especially those with vision impairments.
I bought my 2020 LX model brand new. I had wanted a Soul as soon as they came out but mom duties didn't make it very practical. The only problems I've had with it was the stupid Kia Boys breaking into my baby. I do a lot of highway driving as well as urban areas and it's works really well in both areas. She gets up and goes with no issues, especially if I hit the Sport button. I love driving it on day trips and she manages mild off-roading. I plan on keeping her for many more years and miles.
If you want the actually fully loaded Kia Soul, look for the GT-line with the tech package, no other trim has as many features or perks, its better than the EX model as well, it will cost $28,000 roughly.
The Soul is a great little driver, especially since it only has 147 hp. If you want top performance, keep it in Sport mode and turn off the Stop-and-Go button. It has NAV, and the sound system is great. What I don't like about it is its ergonomics. If you have back problems or other muscular-skeletal issues, you may find it a handful. And, if you want the roominess of an SUV, you won't find it in this car, especially if you're tall and/or large. I definitely recommend buying the Technology Package with power seats if you want to minimize the seating ergonomic problems. With it, the car costs 27-28 K.
Don’t think you’d read this but trying to find a cute car to drive. This will be my 2nd car after owning a RAV4 for… almost 10 years now. I’m split between this car and the Mini Cooper (so. Gosh. Darn. Cute!) but I hear the mini cooper can have expensive repairs… on top of the already expensive price…
The 2024 Kia soul is a pretty practical and boxy car for the money. Although there are some cars in the segment that I would rather choose for that money, like the Corolla, civic, Elantra, or the sonata. Another great review as always though guys. Happy thanksgiving to all!
Thanks a lot for the review! I've read that previous models (2017,2020-2021) had issues with the engine (piston oil rings among otherr) , do you know if previous problems have been solved in the 2024 version?

The Kia Soul is still on this design and generation since 2009 .. they keep adding little tweaks and refreshing details .. but that's 15 years of the same car .. when They gonna make a new gen ??
I've always been smitten with the Soul since the first generation. It offers a lot of style, space, practicality, and value for the money. The current generation may be my least favorite though. It's gotten so angry-looking with its bulldog face, droopy rear end, and bland monochromatic black interior. I remember the days of the Soul having houndstooth upholstery and offering two-tone red/black or tan/black interiors. I miss that! I'm looking forward to a complete redesign with better styling inside and out.
It's a neat little car, but that engine just isn't enough and that gas mileage is quite poor for vehicle size and engine. Still would be a nice around the town car if it was a second car.
If I want boxy car I would get Kei Car since it’s more luxury then this Kia Soul and has feature like full LED headlight, taillights, signal and also offers 360 back up camera.
It's preference. Personally, I prefer non-turbo engines. Less maintenance, higher reliability. Less power and lower fuel economy sure, but I will always choose reliability over power.
We had a 2016 Soul that we bought brand new. While driving to work one morning the engine went poopy in its pants with just 70,000 miles on the clock. That was the last Hyundai/Kia vehicle I will ever buy. I’m very meticulous with maintenance on my cars and at one point I took it to the dealership because of what I felt was excessive oil consumption, but they claimed it was normal. Kia Soul = POS
I have a 2015 Soul. The engine is still fine but I did have to replace the catalytic converter because it had become clogged around 85k miles but the extended warranty thankfully took care of that so it was only $100. As someone who has also noticed needing to add oil every 2k miles, I asked about this and there is now a test. It is tedious but after an oil change, they have you bring it back after 1k miles, keep it overnight for review, drive another 1k miles, and when you bring it back, you bring back all of the copies of the past appointments to verify it was maintained. Fingers crossed on them fixing the issue, I am just glad there is an option outside of being told, "those engines just eat a lot of oil," when it could easily hit the 5k mile schedule early in its life. What are you driving now? I am looking for my next car but really love how easy the Soul is to park and how easy it is to slide in and out of as a taller person.

When I sold my Kia, I then bought a 2017 Jeep Renegade which I owned for a little more than 4 years and only about 34,000 miles. While the Jeep had approximately 30 more hp and torque, it was no faster than the Soul was and the fuel economy was significantly worse. The Soul also felt more spacious with easier entry...
