How Marvel’s 'Shang-Chi' Pulled Off Its Seven Minute Bus Fight | Movies Insider
Вставка
- Опубліковано 1 гру 2021
- The bus fight from “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” has been praised as Marvel’s best fight sequence ever. The action scene, which is set on a moving bus, took over a year to bring to life. This included reconstructing two real buses to fit cameras inside while making room for actors Simu Liu and Florian Munteanu to fight.
Fight coordinator Andy Cheng, famous for his stunt work on Jackie Chan’s films, walked us through everything from the previsualized CGI and rehearsals used to create the action to how to fake a bus’ movements. Marvel Studios’ “Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings” is now available on all major digital platforms and on 4K ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD.
Thanks to Andy Cheng for speaking with us and Yung Lee for providing extra footage. Check out more of their work here:

How Marvel’s 'Shang-Chi' Pulled Off Its Seven Minute Bus Fight | Movies Insider
When you see these behind the scenes..you actually start to appreciate the background workers more than the actor!...
Love it
this is so true
Especially when the actor needs a Fluffer to step in and help get everything working !
That's the true sad reality we if we ask how many Avengers and character we will name all of them but if we ask about the crew behind them we got blank
Huge respect especially Editors 🖤♾️
while waiting for the post credit cene, I'll have some time to see the names on the credits.
Imo, I think this is the reason why post credit scenes are made. At least the viewers will see the whole big crew helped in making the film no matter what their job role.
A lot of comments compared this with Jackie Chan's movies. The fact is: The action and fight scenes were designed by Brad Allan, Andy Cheng and Peng Zhang - all are alumni of the Jackie Chan Stunt Team.
rip brad allan
The best part is mimicking the bus shaking to be in line with the twist and turns of a San Francisco street.
But the part about Ta Lo (not shown here) is equally breathtaking. They built the entire village, up to fully functional toilets! 👏
This movie deserves an Oscar nom for VFX and production design.
Especially bamboos
Christopher Townsend, Joe Farrell, Sean Noel Walker, and Dan Oliver are nominated for their work work in _Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings_ for Best Visual Effects for the Academy Awards that air on March 27, 2022. _Dune_ , _Free Guy_ , _No Time to Die_ , and _Spider-Man: No Way Home_ are also nominated.
What a cool scene. So glad I watched this in theaters
Same
Ima be honest I thought it was not good cause endgame kinda ruin OG characters but bruh this movie was amzing
Both the stunt team and camera team deserves the same level of credit we give to the actors. Same goes for the vfx team who are the real heroes for Shang Chi.
Imagine spending a year making one 7 minute scene?!?! Marvel is killing it with the movies !!🔥🔥
Jackie Chan made an 8 Minute Fight Scene that took 3 Months to Film, no CGI as well.
That’s just how action scenes were made back in the day. It’s rare not to rush everything nowadays. (The panned final fight scene between T’Challa and Killmonger from Black Panther was filmed and had it’s VFX done less than a month before the movie release.)
@@SMEARGLEX75 the raid 2, kitchen scene..both of them have prepared it for one year...
And to add to that, there were hundreds of people constantly working on it for most of that year
Sure they are killing it. But The Eternals is.............. mediocre.
Grandma and grandpa telling us how they took the bus going to school everyday.
I see this comment everywhere 😂
Ok
@@arniecalang4583 Stay Mad
The crews manually moving the flaps are the real MVPs.
When i saw the bamboo fight scene i was like this looks very similar to rush hour, and now I know that the stunt director is inspired by Jackie Chan's movie, which is really amazing...💥💯
Shang Chi in itself has soooo many references to past Chinese kung fu movies, it's really great. It's almost like a love/thank you letter for what those movies did in the past. The bamboo forest courtship of Shang Chi's dad and mom was very much a reference to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, when Li Mu Bai was trying to persuade "the thief" of his green destiny sword to allow him to train her.
@@akirebara thanks for pointing out this one, i was really trying hard to remember the ref. 👍🏼
If I'm not mistaken, I'm pretty sure I heard in another interview that the stunt director actually used to be on Jackie's stunt team and did a lot of movies with him. So he definitely learned from the best.
@@haigis04 that would be the late great Brad Allan. He not only learned from the best, he was one of the best.
@@clementj that’s who it was! Thank you! Truly a great.
I'm honestly always so amazed by the teams behind these films! I can't wrap my head around the amount of planning and work they had to do!
No wonder i felt Jackie Chan fighting vibe during this scene 😍 big applause to the legend
Omg I remember when they were filming this scene on my block I had to call work and tell them Marvel is shooting a film and my Uber is blocked from passing through the street😂
Shang-Chi has some of the best action sequences in any MCU movie. Well-done.
Wowww! I LOVE these behind the scene videos XD The actors are amazing too - they need to act really scared in a film set. I don't think I can do that!!! Hats off to their PROFESSIONALISM!
Wait until you see how much they were paid.
That had Jackie Chan's Police Story written all over it. A memorable and exciting fight scene from both films. Nice work
I remember when they filmed this on my street in SF. watched them for hours as the bus would get back into position and do the take over and over and over. They modified the bus drastically, I remember a giant engine sitting in the back half of the bus. They also had a caged compartment for the “driver” in the middle of the bus that could drive it with a remote control, not the front seat.
" bro you got this, my bad" 😂
Best line of the scene.
Not saying this is not impressive.. but the fact that Jackie chan had done a bunch of bus action scenes without any CGI more than decades ago makes modern action films hard to compare
Police Story green double decker bus
Those stunts would be hard to pull off considering the safety rules that's put in place these days
Yeah yeah, Jackie Chan done that a lot. We know it already, are you going to ignore that his stunt team is here coordinate the action and Simu Liu himself who pulled the stunts? Let's be honest, how many Hollywood actors can actually do their own stunts without using quick cuts and shaky cam?
Safety before anything else. It would suck to lose your life over a stunt just for entertainment.

Top 10 reasons why I dont hesitate to watch any marvel movie. These guys put heart and soul in it
This movie is PHENOMENAL!!!
shang chi is the best marvel movie with the best fight scenes
One of the best fight scenes in years, really loved how much real effects/choregraphy were used vs shaky cam and CGI that mot movies use these days
Shang-Chi deserves an Oscar nomination.

this blows my mind, just amazing, so much mind goes into it......I am starting to appreciate the crew way more now
ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES IVE EVER SEEN
This was such an epic scene, really cool to see how it was done!
Never thought that it was choerographed by Andy Cheng. The man is one of my favourite Stuntman of all time. This bus scene was insane.
Hardworking team and Simu himself. Doing these stunts. Amazing
Thank you for the update, Insider..!! Wow, the SFX was done so well that I thought that scene was a live action shot. @.@
It's VFX, not SFX.
Impressive. Definitely one of the best scenes in the movie. If not the best scene
The fact they used cgi but most of the actions is real is amazing. They could have done everything with blue background.
I’ve been waiting for this one!
Awesome work, hella respect for stunt people, it's a tough job as a daily grind!
I already forgot about it 🤣🤣 people need to understand action is not about flashy flick and kicks … there must be emotion behind every single punch… sadly many stunt coordinator and artists forget about that..
I definitely take for granted how hard it is to do scenes like this or to even make a movie
Insane amount of work!!!
0:54 If nobody told me, I thought he’s Jack Ma
Wow, it's amazing how much extent humans do for entertainment using their passion and skills.
Impressive. Most impressive!
Just incredible
One thing that makes it best the background song used in it
If they cast Jackie Chan and Jet Li for Shang-Chi 2 it will be bananas. Wishful thinking but if they pull it off it’s going to be one crazy film that harkens the old Hong Kong 70s, 80s, early 90s martial arts films.
Absolutely incredible work!!! I thought this video would contain footage from the subtle Asian traits fb group where the person filming was in the building where they filmed that bus crash scene!
Incredible scene. The movie is worth watching just for this part.
Woow so much hard work for 7 minute seen so much hard work🔥🔥🔥
Wooow... Amazing action film. 👍👍👍👍👍
I would say this scene and Thor Ragnarok bridge scene are my 2 favorite action scenes, glad i got to experience those scenes in theatre
Wow so amazing bus fight scene really incredible.
i remember my bf telling me about how they were filming for this right outside his apartment window like however long before the movie came out and its so COOL to see
This is awesome..
The only unrealistic thing I found about the scene was how clean the inside of the bus was. Muni buses were pretty filthy when I was a kid. 😁
Good movie saw it on Disney plus cool behind the scenes 😊
Shang Chi 🔥🔥🔥
Love this bus scene
This is 🔥🔥🔥
Brilliant. Just brilliant.
Love this fight sequence ❤️✌🏻
1:22 yeah. surprised to find this is actually best part and the movie declined from there. my jaw dropped and kept watching this multiple times and the good soundtrack also helped a lot.
damn this is a lot of work, bravo...
This is amazing
Filmmakers in my country: "lets not do the bus fighting scene"
Keren...
Fight scenes in this movie were so good.
What gave it away was the moving bus. The moving bus. Moving bus! No traffic at all!!!! Wow!
Bus boy and the legend of the ten bracelets
Fav. Scen
That’s mind blowing!
Yes really awesome scene
impressive !! lots details. only Hollywood can make movie like this.. !! :)
the 4dx was amazing
Those crew members moving the flaps 🤣
Awesome!
Amazing
My deep salutation to you guys.
3:51. GREAT SCENE 😊😊❤😊❤
Great Movie!!!
Not the best fight in the MCU. Coolest looking? Sure but the intensity died out in rewatch.
It's heavily inspired by Jackie Chan's fights but didn't take in the most crucial one: Jackie gets hit, a lot. It gives more weight to it.
Gotta agree on that. In my opinion, the best fight in the MCU was the final fight between Cap, Tony and Winter Soldier in civil war
Daredevil’s fight scene is the best IMO😃
Yeah my first time watching this scene I was like “this is the greatest thing I’ve ever watched” but when I watched it again it wasn’t nearly as exciting. Either way though it’s still an incredible scene
Why tho just why what for why for!?
that bmw hurt my soul 2 much lol
Fantastic movie!
When I saw the bus fight (20 minutes into the movie) I instantly said to myself, "Okay well I've already collected my movie ticket admission price they can do anything for the rest of the movie and I'll be happy!" - I never had thought before in any movie !!
Amazing scenes.. great video!
As a person who rides public busses in the Bay Area I found very realistic and fun
I almost forgot they had magic in MCU because of how it makes sense that Shang Chi has this ability from his father's training.
That’s Zach Cherry filming on his phone, he’s an enigma, you can’t pigeonhole him, he’s there then he’s gone
The fighting style is one for the people reluctant and forced to fight
Best fight 🔥🔥🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️❤️❤️👌👌👌
2:48 thats the guy that played the villain in the mha live action film
That's why I really have respect for Jackie Chan.
Sick
Epic shangchi
I completely forgot about the bus fight seen…
I saw the movie a week ago
Lol
Scene
The I8 & P 944 really hurts me.........& Blade 1 fight is maxed for me!!
Great movie, amazing scene, terrific BTS video.

Movie Magic!
Props to the bus driver.
Good movie 👌
