Yeah umm i don’t think stopmotion studio does that for me😅 But what you are doing is crazy man, it looks like you have a lot of fun with it...keep it up! This was cool to see the “behind the scenes” thing very cool
I am glad I have watched both of the parts! StopMotion and 3D animation. I personally enjoy stopmotion more but damn you did an amazing job on the 3D animation so well done! The story also was well done, I was watching all along the way very entertained!
It's clear that you put a lot of work into the project and it shows in the final product! I liked the first part and I think the second is wonderful! The 3d animation comes very close to that of The Lego Movie!
Here's an idea, maybe add a rotation noise modifier on the characters' hair on the Y axis, to simulate how the hair would move slightly if you moved the head in real lego stop motion, cause human fingers are too big to grab on to just the head of a minifig alone, so the hair would rotate off center too. It's just a thought i had when watching this, i don't actually know if that's a problem any more with real lego stop motion.
Awesome! I’ve been inspired by your work and I started researching Blender Bricks. You’ve completing blown me away two times! It’s been such an experience watching your films from the point of view of a Star Wars fan, a stop-motion animator, and a film critic (not really). Keep up the good work!
Thanks for sharing your experience. This movie is a great inspiration for me as I am currently shooting a LEGO stop-motion movie in the Star Wars universe using a bit of 3D rendering on Blender as an additional possibility to expand the scenery.
Great behind the scenes video! It's nice that you're keeping George Lucas' tradition of in-depth Star Wars BTS alive at a time when official Disney Star Wars content is pretty limited when it comes to transparency and openness about the production process.
When I first watched Dissent, I thought it was just really good stop-motion - it's incredible that you 3D animated this! Looked on-par with The Lego Movie.
Ever since I saw you planned on using blender I was inspired to make animations on blender too, I'm still learning and my rig is pretty weak but its great fun and I can't wait to see more of your tutorials, words can't express how helpful they've been.
I LOVED the movie. I would enjoy you continuing this series, maybe the jedi's journey in a new empire rule, or the battle for the planet before these events
This is awesome, thanks Owen. I'd really love some detail on your final render settings (samples, bounces etc), and how to get the glossiness "right" on mecabricks models in a tutorial if possible - I know that's probably not the most interesting topic for many, but your photorealism is above next level! ♥
@@OwenatorProductions would be great if you could do an updated one as you've clearly learnt a lot yourself since your early tutorials (which we're still awesome!) for the finished star wars one :)
This is amazing! How did you get the textures to look so realistic though? They almost looked like real Lego, with their small scratches, fingerprints and other imperfections. That, and the great story and characters, is what really stood out for me.
When watching it it thought it was done w real lego. This is amazing. So the textures come with the fig when you import it into blender or do I have to do anything else. Truly amazing work.
Dang, and I thought doing stop motion and editing it in after effects was complicated haha. Amazing work though, I think I’ve watched your Brickfilm like five times now lol
Could you possibly do an updated tutorial on this? This looks interesting and I could maybe do bigger projects that are too ambitious for me in normal stop motion once I figure it out.
Any chance of a quick tutorial on how to edit the face to custom? I purchased Mecaface but now can't seem to figure out how to make this custom for my film. Any links, tutorials and such would be super...super helpful! Love the vids and thanks!
@@OwenatorProductions thanks so much. I've gone through all the main ones I can see on his channel...even the one where you can make a rig. But just changing the plane and such like you mention in this video.....do you happen to know which video of his references this? Thanks so much!
@@OwenatorProductions HAHAHAHAHA! I've skimmed that video way too many times. I both hope it is and isn't that video! Thanks for helping a day 1 noob of the Mecaface rig out!
BTW.......It totally was that video....and I had watched it a ton. I may have.....skipped that section before. haha....Thanks again! (Now back to feeling stupid for asking a stupid question)
Quick question for ya. How do you go about saving ram when dealing with large scale scenes? I've got 32gb but even when in lookdev mode (The one before the render viewport) I see my pc eating up like 22 gb ram. I've got my project divided into 4 scenes so far. All of them are using about 6 lego creator expert sets and a few smaller lego modular buildings. I am also using the mecabricks advanced add on for blender. any help would be much appreciated. My PC Specs are -CPU: Ryzen5 3600 -GPU: RTX 2070 -SSD 1TB and a couple more SSD's and HDD's. I have Blender on my SSD
Honestly sometimes there’s nothing you can do, I’m horrible at optimizing. I often will make a low poly set using planes and cubes and hide the real sets, only until rendering
Are you going to do another tutorial on making a brickfilm in blender? I would love to start, but a lot of the tutorials seems a little dated. Are there any you suggest watching, maybe even yours if you still think it holds up.
Yeah his tutorial definitely does still hold up though parts are outdated. There are other tutorials on using the epicfigrig as well as customizing mecabricks textures. A basic understanding of blender should do and if you have anything you want to learn, UA-cam is the way to go. You should also learn the basic principles of animation. (Movement, Cameras, etc.) Alot of it is just practice and experimentation so don't get discouraged! Also don't forget to start basic and work from there. GL!
imo Blender advanced because it's gonna be more important for everything to look nice than for you to be able to move faces. Highly recommend Mecaface tho so after you buy Blender advanced, definitely go for Mecaface but Blender Advanced is more important for starters
Thanks for the tutorial. I’m been using mecabricks, but the models seem to take tons of memory and a simple scene puts me over the 500mb maximum for sheepit. How do you keep your models looking so good while being small enough for sheepit? Thanks. Edit: Solved! Putting logos on studs takes a massive amount of storage and memory. Unless you are going for a very realistic look and have a powerful computer, turn it off. Final update: 2 things caused the huge memory increase from 20 mb to 1gb: logo on studs, and joining. When joining objects together identical textures are all saved separately. This caused a massive storage increase on the grey Death Star. To avoid this, I just set a noticeable brick as parent to the object.
This has been plaguing me for a couple weeks and I’ve had reallly slow interface times, but I finally realized it was because I had logo on studs on. If you make a figure tutorial, please mention to other people that turning off logo on studs can help them if their computer isn’t that powerful. Hopefully this can help other people.
Another big thing is making sure you don’t waste space with duplicate textures. When you keep the objects separate, it automatically optimizes the data, but when you join the objects, you have to do it yourself.
This Jambo guy sounds cool
I know, his music reminds me of Samuel Kim. It's like you admire him or something.
Ikr, he sounds pretty cool.
