Piranesi, detransition baby, paper place and the island of missing trees were huge women’s prize wins for me. I’ve been meaning to read sorrow and bliss for ages now
I didn’t follow the Women’s Prize this year, but did enjoy several books from the Booker Prize shortlist (The Bee Sting, Study for Obedience, The Pearl); I haven’t yet read the winner, Prophet Song, which sounds quite depressing so I may pass, but overall enjoyed following the Booker Prize and will likely do so again!
The hype around The Bee Sting has me intrigued... and I heard a review of Pearl that made me think it could be something I'd be interested in. Good to know that you'd put your stamp of approval on the Booker though! I've never read from it before but I might have to try some books from it in the future
I am following the Booker Prizes (so happy that Bulgaria win this year with “Timeshelter”, Womens prize for fiction, Pulizzer and the Nobel. I am not necessarily loving all the books, but I definately am very interested!
It depends year to year. I am not interested in all ganres. Also as not every book is translated in Bulgarian I mostly end up reading the winner or listening to some of the books on audio in English. To be honest I think I read the most from the Booker prizes.
I think Prize winners bring attention to certain books, but I don't follow one particular prize offerings. Over the years, the Pulitzer is one of the more consistent Prize winners that I follow.
I didn't follow Women's Prize but was watching National Book Award, I read the winner in November and... ya... I mean it was fine. All of these prize books are so hit or miss for me.
I felt like this year’s Women’s Prize nominees were not as strong as previous years. The only International Booker book I read was Still Born, and it was a 4 ⭐️ book for me. I’ve had mixed success with the regular Booker nominees in the past. I guess they are all hit or miss for me.
I agree that the WPFF was less strong this year and it didn't help that it was extremely historical fiction heavy and that's not one of my preferred genres. I've never read anything from the regular Booker but I'd be interested in giving it a chance sometime

I hope you manage to get to Sorrow and Bliss soon! (and that you enjoy it as much as I did 😊)
I loved black butterflies and hated I'm a fan!! Always love watching your vids
Thank you!! 💖

Do you find that you end up liking more books from a particular prize?

They really are hit or miss unfortunately… which is a bummer!

I like to watch booktubers and their expectations, but I really don't care for prize
It's interesting that you enjoy hearing about them but not reading them!
If some book sound to me interesting, I will read
But thats fuzz about winner ❤
