I’m from 🇵🇹 Portugal. I am your mother’s age at the time and I can’t imagine myself going to what she went through. It’s such an amazing story that keeps us believing in humanity following the steps of Jesus! My heart is full. Thank you

Thank you Madalena for your kind words. I ask myself, too, whether I could do what my mom did. Sitting with her as she was dying, I looked at her not as her son, but as a grown man with a family and all I could think was "how could this lady have done what she did, and been so selfless?" It became my mission in life to share her story. Thank you again for your kind words.

I just finished The Light In Hidden Places about your mother and father. I didn’t know everyone was real until at the end with the pictures. Your Mother and Aunt are the bravest, kindness souls I have ever heard of. They represent the depth of humanity. To do what she did, all the while the loss she experiences and constant fear of getting caught, is astounding. She was so brave. I was touched by your mom’s story. She saved thirteen future generations. Such courage and strength. Thank you for sharing the story of your parents. To this day, the Holocaust is still remembered and I believe it will continue to be so long after we are gone. I just hope and pray, that humanity learns to stop the hate and embrace each other as one. God bless you and your family!

No matter how many times I've read this book or listen to the audio version, it's still amazes me just how brave your mom and Aunt Helena during the Shoah. I've always wondered though, why your dad completely changed his name after the war? I also re-watched the movie version last night with Kelly Martin as your mom.. good movie but I prefer the book to it I just wish that I could have met Stefania and Helena before they passed away.. along with your dad.

@@Edburzminski That's amazing. My Jewish great great grandmother survived the war too. She was in her eighties living in Vilnius, married to a Christian. Nobody knew or wanted to say she was Jewish. Imagine, at one point nearly half of the city spoke the singsongy dialect of Yiddish, the language she grew up speaking and when the war was over, nobody spoke that language anymore. Yes, many Jewish people have survived but you won't hear Yiddish in the streets of Central Europe anymore. You won't hear the eastern dialects of Yiddish anywhere in the world today. Przeczytalem, ze Twoi rodzice wyjechali z Polski w 1961. Nie wiem ile masz lat, ale jest mozliwe, ze nawet sie w Polsce urodziles. I know I don't have the right to but I'm really proud of your mom, your dad and your aunt. Wesołych Świ

I hadn't realized that the book was based on a true story until I got yo the end and saw the pictures of Fushia, Max and Helena. Real life is stranger then fiction. I am listening to the audio book again for the thousandth time..I'm glad that both Fusia and Max survived..but I am sad to know that Mr. and Mrs. Diamont passed away..but such was life during that time frame for a lot of the Jewish people. May they all rest in peace. I just hated that Fusia had Dementia at the end of her life (from what I read online somewhere). She died at the age of 97 years old on September 19, 2018. I also read that Helena has also since passed away as of December 5, 2022. Yet, I now can't find more information to find out if Helena has in fact died. L'Chiam= To Life. I am sorry if I misspelled that..I'm good with Hebrew and Yiddish..just not great typing it..

Nicky, thank you for your kind words. Stefi was actually first in love with Max's younger brother who was closer to her age. Unfortunately he was killed in a labor camp which devastated her. Max said that Fusia saved his life and he owed her his. They did grow to love each other. Fusia used to say that Max asked to stay just one night, and ended up staying with her nearly 59 years!
