Full Gauge Cluster Swap Jeep Cherokee XJ

Swapping over the gauge cluster on my 1989 jeep cherokee xj to the full cluster. My old cluster did not have a tachometer. The new one has a tach and everything else. Had to swap over the oil pressure and coolant temp gauges as they were not working on the new cluster. Hope you enjoy the video.

I did this very swap on my 96 a few years ago, using that gauge cluster in place of my very basic one with the oversized fuel gauge. I just took out the speedometer/odometer assembly and put it into the housing to maintain an accurate record of the mileage. Replaced the sending unit for the oil and temperature and I was jammin.’

So you need to find an extra cable to swap out dummy lights? I have a new cluster and everything, but I read on a forum you need three cables to do it

Yea I think your going to need a new oil pressure sending unit and coolant temp unit.

wut... When I tried removing the needle on mine figuring it like a clock just pull to remove I had done that and snaped the pin figuring it was week I had tried it on another gauge and it snapped so Gave up figuring it was impossible and Had bought a whole new cluster... But Had a Tach Though which was a Win :)

i dont have old gauges with the needles for the oil pressure and temperature how do i fix that?

Easiest way is to buy a used full cluster and swap it out. Going to need a new temp sending unit and oil pressure sending unit with the full cluster

So i just did this and nothing works. Only thing that does is speedo. Ive taken all the screws out and sanded them and sanded the wire ribbon contacts. Ive sanded the ground wire under the dash. Any ideas?

its possible the individual guages are broken. Mine were and I had to re-solder the wires back on

I noticed your jeep does not warm up to 210 and it’s stuck at that tick mine does the same thing do you know why?
