    Thanks for the informative and rational analysis. I spent about half an hour in the Apple Store, comparing the glossy and nano side-by-side with various content. I went into the store, thinking the nano would not be worthwhile. But after viewing at various angles, the reduction in glare from the store lights was undeniable. I ended up ordering the nano texture with the M4 pro chip and I'm waiting for delivery.

      Mac won’t work for gaming, still. Perhaps in the future, and at that point maybe the Pro makes sense. To be honest, if you’re only editing photos as a power task and it’s not your career where you’re doing it in large numbers, the M4 base model is more than fine. If you want to splurge or have room for it to last for five years, get the high end M4 Pro.

    • @ThisIsTechToday
      @ThisIsTechToday  Місяць тому +3

      Hey! Good questions! I think the nanotexture is for sure the way to go for creatives. I do not see a material decrease in quality. In practical use, I argue that it provides a better image because there isn't a glare from every little thing.
      As for 24GB or 48GB, the reality is that most people will be fine with 24GB and Apple even designed their laptops in a way that will utilize the SSD for additional RAM when needed. Obviously, it's best to use the RAM proper rather than a mixture, but you have that as an option.
      Depending on how intense your designs are, the amount of assets and layers being utilized, the resolution, etc., 48GB may be helpful, but that's something you'd have to ponder. At worst, you spend extra on something you won't need now but will certainly provide headroom over the upcoming years as programs become more demanding and your skills and needs increase.

      I'm not worried about it. It's not an iPad. Also, JRE is extremely biased, and I'm not saying that in a "I'm offended he said something I don't like." I don't really care about that. He just doesn't hide the fact that when he doesn't like something/someone/a company and he lets that color his reviews and commentary. If he was more objective I'd respect his videos more, but he has a lot of double standards and pushes Apple products harder than others. It gets views though, so I guess that's the game.
      But yeah, you're going to experience an incredible improvement from Intel. It'll feel like you've been climbing up hill while dragging a legion of toddlers running everywhere behind you. It's seriously insane.

    • @producermathew
      @producermathew Місяць тому

      @@ThisIsTechToday the review will inherently be biased, as will all of your videos. Unless they are peer reviewed and objective studies of a product. But even then there's scope for bias.
      In his review, the methodologies were outlined, clear, and demonstrated. Meaning, he has presented the source material/facts as opposed to an opinion.
      Therefore it is an objective fact that the nano-texture display is more susceptible to damage. It's not a big issue, but if you happen to wipe the screen with your hand and you have a ring on, or wipe it with a cloth that might have some sort of debris on, it is far more likely to become scratched in a way that is more distracting than the original display.
      So my point really is that it's something that people should consider, not least the fact that people frequently return the nano texture iPads for the normal displays.
      Obviously with the Mac, they won't smudge etc... as not touchscreen and if you're careful they will be just fine. But again it's something to consider because these screens ARE NOT CHEAP to replace.
      And yes I see where you are coming from with the analogy, it does feel really slow now and I'm SO ready to upgrade!!

    • @ThisIsTechToday
      @ThisIsTechToday  Місяць тому +1

    Man I must be a rare opinion on the nano texture. I saw it in the Apple Store and wasn’t a fan of the subtle but noticeable diffusion on black levels and contrasts. I think you prefer it over your M1 Max glossy because it’s not as bright. But with the new m4s, the screens are generally brighter with or without the nano textures.

      @AlanChunkyMunky Місяць тому

      @@ThisIsTechToday i tried to recreate an actual desk situation so the displays were mostly upright with a slight tilt up. i think the nano texture works well by taking the light glare and dispersing it across the display, where as the glare on the normal glossy remains solid where it hits but the rest of the screen stays inky black and punchy. for me its a bit of a trade off. maximum productivity with the nano texture but anytime theres a light, it will soften the image a bit (tho slight) vs having unfettered punchy image with the glossy but have to be ok with ignoring the opaque light glares when they appear. Another thing that threw off wanting the nano texture was finding out that you need a "special" kind of microfiber cloth. i have hard enough time keeping clothes around me to clean my screen, itll be even harder to keep a special high end cloth with me to clean the nano texture.
      tbh tho thats more on me, im a filthy person when it comes to my screens

      Yeah, I think you're describing a situation that isn't the usual. It shouldn't be diffusing across the display that much in normal situations. You have it angled too far up.

      Use it not in the store in a normal environment with it tilted slightly up like you normally would. Apple stores have an insane amount of light everywhere intentionally to make things top lit. That's not usual.

    I saw an article that said Macbook Pros have about 68.5% appreciation 6 years from purchase. So wouldn't you still be able to sell it for something? Unless you think the battery and computer will be shot or it just won't be desirable at all at that point and really won't be worth much like you're saying?

      Not exactly. It's mostly Resolve and how it deals with Text for some reason, especially with plugins from this company. Other plugins work just fine. Otherwise, it's more powerful and FAR MORE efficient than a 4090.

  • @drdudewin

    What a great review, but even in your comparison, the standard glossy display looks better than the nano texture option (at least to my eyes). The nano-texture seems to add some foggy reflections which give it a kinda plasticky look that I don’t like … but I heard there is some QD tech in the new displays, I wonder if that applies only to nano-texture and if that is the reason that up-close there is some difference in apparent dynamic range.
    Either way, maybe I should see it person as you suggested.
