what impresses me way more than even the ride quality of evils is how fucking insanely quiet they are! having a bike that rattles a ton is really a MASSIVE factor that plays into how trust-worthy a bike feels for me. i have the new norco range coming in just a few days and i am going to spend so much time making that thing as silent as i possibly can. when i spend, or when ANYONE spends multiple thousands of dollars on a bike, it better be silent as hell. evil does a better job at making their bikes silent than any other brand i know of. not sure how they do it but wow, it makes me want one JUST so i don't have to worry about cable rattles.
Fantastic riding on the steep parts! I was thinking of changing my old Trek Slash for a longer bike. This one seems perfect with stiff frame and Good pedaling efficiency. So I took photos of new Wreckoning and played with them in Photoshop and it seems that reach is much shorter than advertised, around 2 cm on size large. As if they measure it not from the top of the headtube, but much lower instead. Could you please comment on that?
So I just measured from the wall to the middle top of the head tube and got a measurement of 128 cm. From the middle of the BB to the wall was 80.5 cm. Assuming the wall is square this should give a pretty accurate reach measurement. 128 minus 80.5 gives you 47.5 cm which is spot on for the 475mm reach that Evil advertises.
Hi Nic, I have a transition sentinel 2021 but am looking to buy another bike. If you had only one bike would you choose the wreckoning or the sentinel? Are they much different to ride, is it worth my while getting a wrecker? Thanks👍
I certainly prefer the Wrecker. It really depends on the terrain you prefer. If you’re leaning towards features like jumps, drops, and steep chutes I would go with the Wrecker or the new Spire. If you’re looking for an all day rig the Sentinel is lighter and faster on the climbs. That said the Wreckoning climbs better than a number of other 160+ bikes I’ve ridden and I often take it on 4 to 6 hour rides.
@@NICADV excellent thanks Nic, I’d be on rough enough and steep stuff in woods, very tempted now to sell a few bits and get a wrecker, great looking bike too! In your videos you seem to be doing more jumps and drops on the wrecker compared to the sentinel, great videos and keep them coming. Thanks for the reply, safe riding, cheers👌👍
Hi. Great review and riding. How is the paint finish on your frame? I saw a Coral Reef Wreckoning on a LBS and the finish was not uniform. The painting kind of faded in the internal faces of the frame and was not smooth.
I believe it would make a great enduro race bike. The ultimate straight line stability may not be as good as some due to the short chainstays, but you would be hard pressed to fine something better. The pedal platform is great for short sprints and the suspension is lively enough for quick movements.
Great review ! I m considering the 2021 Evil wreckoning X01 or the New nukeproof méga 290 rs, the builds are the same except the wheels, did you try it ? What do you think ? Thanks More vids please !
That is a hard one. Unfortunately, getting my hands on a Nukeproof is pretty hard in Washington state. I think the closest dealer is in Texas. The new Mega 290 is a great looking bike. I especially like the bottle blue but the artichoke is also a great color. Based on some of the quick geo and details I would guess they are quite comparable. Due to its EWS pedigree I would imagine the Mega to be a purebred race bike. While the shorter chainstays of the Wreckoning and Delta suspension make for a bike that I can tell you is lively and fun.
Awesome riding! What were your thoughts on the bike vs the sentinel? I was kicking around both bikes for a while but ended up ordering an xo1 sentinel.
I was surprised. I expected them to behave similarly, but that was not the case. Both bikes enduro the Sentinel handles speed like a champ but the Wreckoning handles speed and rocks. They both love steep terrain, but the Wreckoning prefers to get off the ground and if you land flat or sideway it just keeps going. It certainly feels like a bike made to handle Rampage and the Sentinel has a more 50/50 balance. From my experience on the Fox suspension, the X01 Sentinel is equipped with, it will undoubtedly up the Sentinel's capability.
Nice vid! I subbed. Have you tried the offering? I love the idea of the wreckoning but if I’m forced to be honest, it’s more bike than I need (I’m not as aggressive as The wreck. Needs). The offering may be more playful and easier on the climbs?
Totally on the fence putting in my order for one of these. Just undecided on size. I am 5'10" and my current bikes are larges, but the wheelbase on the Large wreckoning is long on the Large in comparison and I am worried it might feel cumbersome. My Large 2021 Stumpjumper wheelbase is 1228mm which feels nice and stable, but maybe a hair less maneuverable than my Large RIP 9, which is about 1215mm with the 160mm fork. 30mm more seems like a lot. But then again, the reach on the Medium wreckoning is slightly shorter than my stumpy and about the same as my RIP, both of which feel like they are in my preferred zone (460-470mm).
The Wreckoning is definitely a burlier bike than the two you mentioned. That said the wheelbase isn’t that far off the Stumpy Evo. If you’re looking for a bike in the territory of the Wreckoning or Enduro than the longer wheelbase is to be expected and something you shouldn’t have trouble getting used to. Keep in mind it will ride bigger but if you’re used to the reach of a large (about 475mm) than go with it!
@@NICADV Thanks for the advice. Yeah I plan on keeping my Stumpy for short travel duty and selling my RIP 9 to get something a bit more squishy and aggressive, so I have more defined options. It is tough committing to a size without the opportunity to at least sit on it. No bikes anywhere to check out .
🙏 I have had a slash in the past and they are both great bikes. I haven’t gotten to ride the new version of the slash but it looks great and the downtube storage 👌! The Wreckoning is as playful as all the hype and plows when necessary. I also was pleasantly surprised with the coil shock and all the builds get the Zeb Ultimate.
@@JasonChambersPhoto Evil bikes tend to fit big when compared to other brands. The last generation Wreckoning required me to ride a shorter dropper for my 74 cm saddle height. Depending on your saddle height the large should be just fine and will be a bit more playful and maneuverable. However, if you are looking to race the bike or are concerned about the climb ability then I would recommend the XL. Specifically, if you saddle height is 84 cm or taller than go XL.
I am 6.13 and i ride the ne Wreckoning in L. For downhill it is kind of the perfect size. But i realised that my back hurts sometimes on the uphill, because im to stretched. Probably size M would fit better for me. But im not sure if size m is to playful on jumps and descents. In your case i would stick to L. Should be perfectly fine.
I am 5’ 11” or about 180cm. At 187cm you could probably ride either the L or XL. I would recommend sitting on one to make sure the XL works if you go that route. Otherwise, on the large you could run a longer dropper post.
Nic Sears Adventures Thank you. Now I have a wreckoning 2020 L, according to the dimensional grid this is my size, however I am a little uncomfortable and seems short (reach452)
@@kruone58 the sizing for the Wreckoning has changed a little, but if you’re comfortable on your current large than the increased reach (475) should be even better.

Did you measure in the middle of the upper opening of the head tube? Or in the middle of the head tube height?

That sounds similar to my frame's finish. The head tube is a bit rough it gets smooth on the downtime and top tube then is rough again at the joints.
Exactly the same on mine. But paint gets messed up so I don’t care.
So would this make a good race bike? I’m considering getting one and that seems to be the only negative I could find.
