2024, and this song/video/quest still gets to me. I remember doing the Pamela and Battle of Darrowshire quests back in the days of Early WoW; and not that long ago Classic WoW, and it was one of the hardest, saddest, and yet happiest quest chain I ever did.
In my opinion it really was the little things like this that made WoW as great as it was. Don't get me wrong, I love the fact that there are overarching stories now like in the Stone Talon mountains and the military quest line in the barrens, but it was always nice to have these mini stories to kind of take you away from it all. Like your character is busy saving the world, but every once in a while something like this pops up and it just kind of makes you forget everything else. Like helping this little girl is the most important thing in the world. That was honestly what made the game for me.
SvartTK yea, but they removed others that were dubbed "obsolete" like the one to go to Uther's tomb and ask for a blessing. It may not have been important in the grand scheme of things, but thats how it is in a real world. Not everything serves a purpose for some grand design; some things are just meant for closure.
+armsdragon05 "like the one to go to Uther's tomb and ask for a blessing." That one also still exists as a world event (Harvest Festival) quest. The Horde version has you go to Grom's Monument instead.
When the quest still had you go see her uncle and he said "You've seen Pamela? She's alive? She's dead? No! Oh, Pamela! Why does your spirit still suffer in this world. Why are you perished, while fortune keeps me alive? In an instant I would switch places with you and wander dead Darrowshire, a ghost and alone!" That quote really hit me deep.
its a display of true love. Somewhere deep in all of us that resonates. Its the kind of thing that can bring people together and dispel hatred. Good on you for seeing it.
I found this song when I was 11. I am 26 now and it still gives me chills. Thank you Cranius for the good music and good memories. I have never forgotten this song and many others of yours.
"Entire planetary systems born and razed in the time that it takes your mortal hearts to beat once." -Algalon the Observer Before the time it takes for this mortal heart to beat, this piece already crushes and reduces me to tears.
It's been 14 years. A long road, getting from there to here. The last few years have been dark, barren, and tortured. I hope they turn once more towards better times. Take us back to Darrowshire.
It's been many years. Around me lay the bodies of youtube songs that have come before, left in the dusts of time to be forgotten. But still, I venture through. I dig and claw my way through this wasteland to hear it once again. Maybe for a final time, who is to say. To hear the story of Darrowshire sung. Just one, final time.
I'll never forget the hayday of wow at its heights. All the Machinima's and rap videos and things. Though out of all of them this one was always my favorite. The song and the story just struck to the core, especially at the end. "And you're fathers coming home again, the war for him is over." Just the supporting vocals and how he is walking up as a ghost just...ugh...feels. I love this video.
I just recently came back to Wow after three years or so and one of the first things I did was catch up with a friend of mine and we took a trip down memory lane. Guess what came up? Pamela Redpath and Darrowshire. These "small stories" are worth if only for the story itself. I finished this quest again for the third or fourth time and it never gets old.
yea same i returned a while ago after a few years , i always end comeing back to old zones and the stories . also i miss class quests , thank god for classic wow i guess.
You see... THIS is the kind of thing that makes a legendary game. Sure, Bioshock and PvZ references are cute and all, but it is bits of lore like this, helping the ghost of a young girl and her father who was cursed to find some measure of peace and pass on... THIS is a flipping 'sidequest'. Years later, long after I stopped playing WoW, this song still brings tears to my eye.
So many years has passed since I discovered this gem... An even though I stopped playing WoW, I still feel chills listening to Darrowshire. Dang. Hope you and Legs are still well and kicking!
Oh this brings back some memories... When I first heard this song I went back and replayed this quest on my paladin. I miss those days, sadly WoW is no longer what it used to be... no deep hidden gems of story, just unrefined fetch quests with no real emotion to them.
It is mode march 2023 and this video/song still gets to me. I have watched it for God only knows how many times. I loved this quest line so much. I just waited to get my alts to EPL to do it. Yes, it created a lump in my throat every time but I had to help Pamela! Cranius, I am not sure you will see this but thank you for this song and all the rest as well. I listen to them all.
+Calomel I know that feel, there is something hopelessly sad about ghost little girls that does not know they are dead... I am glad we made her rest in peace. Thanks Cranius for the beautiful song.
There have been a total of two times I had to stop playing because I was tearing up. This quest was the first time. The emotion in this quest series just hit me like a brick. Maybe two. The second was the first time I ran through Darkshore after Cata. Everything I remembered was gone, replaced with the shattered remains and dead bodies. I think I actually logged out for a bit on both. Awesome job, Cranius, on keeping the memory alive!
honestly guys, I've barely started on it. I'm in school for an engineering degree so it's difficult to have time to write. Besides it's my first writing project so it's likely that it won't be that good.
2023 When i back to this video it always an eternal reminder that the world i grew up does not exist anymore and move forward whit out forget what it was back them
For those that want to do the original quest chain, there are many private free servers that you can join that stop at WOLK or BC, or Vanilla, (depending on which one you choose to join). I did enjoy the little extra touch that Bliz added during Cata, where if you do the quest chain, you can go back to the caravan afterwards and Pamela will follow you around Eastern Plaugelands.
This song got me through some rough times, its sad yet inspireing, i regularly come back to listen to it. It is hard to think this is now over 10 years old.
fix djole WoD is awesome and i see why people love it, but Cata and MoP killed wow for me, i played when wod came out level 2 toons too 100 and then quit, i cant handle wow anymore, its lost its magic in my opinion, but for new players WoD is great.
"Sometimes people ask what was The Scourge Invasion like? And you know what I tell them, How would it feel to have to kill your own parents, grandparents, aunt and uncles, brothers and sister, your own children, plus your next-door neighbours and their lot, every single time with the only permanent solution is either burning them all to ash or cracking in there skulls," - Knight Commander Alexandar, 7th Legion, 10th Company,
I get a chill every time I hear this song. And I'll always remember my level 60 dwarf hunter with whom I did the first time this chain. Really great job,Cranius!
I quit world of warcraft partly because of them butchering stuff like this. They added so much content and made it so the whole point of the game was rushing to max and raiding but way back in the day pre bc and bc there was SO much game to be experienced before max level. I used to full clear entire zones just so I could read the lore and quests and see, hear, and read all these crazy, intense and touching backstories and stuff about the zone. This one and the story and questline of morgan ladimore were always ones I looked forward to. Now you don't even have to go to 90% of the zones to get to max. Before you HAD to go to 90% of them.
Actually, i had to grind/do dungeons to reach lvl 60 in vanilla cause there were not enough quests. I hit lvl 60 farming elementals in felwood...I reached lvl 90 in pandaria by doing two zones, so yeah. I say they have focused too much on the easy part. They should atleast cut down on the quests so that you'll see the entire map before hitting max.
Selor12 haha i know how you feel. I played pre bc sadly i dont have the honor of being an end game pre bc veteran. my best friend who introduced me shortly before bc was in Eitriggs top guild and he ran out of quests and round from i think it was 56-60 in the small graveyard at the entrance to western plagulands simply because he was a paladin and that place had a stupid respawn rate. regardless. If wow eeeeeeeeeeeeer brought back real story? id go back to it. i was an end game raider. I was the top tank on my server in wotlk, vashj. Shit server but still. i just coulkdnt handle the fact they took away everythin but the end game, gave it away for free, and even to people like me who were of the few who spent four hundred plus hours getting the winterspring frostsaber before they nerfed it to shit? MY fuckin gosh. they gave me the achievement for it. but the date on it was 3 fking years after i got it. I had it when maybe 1 or 2 people per server had it. my honor was a dat that everyone could get. I ground my sexy kitty from level 40 to level 60. i spent 700 HOURS getting her. i named her hope. and then they made her a 5 hour ordeal and an achievment 2 expansions later.... i ADORED the game. then blizzard lost sight of what they made and simply wanted money. they havent gotten mine in 4 years.
Selor12 I so wish.... this was stilll world of warcaft.... Nothing today in my opinion compares to the old WoW. fck... id pay 20 a month for a real rerelease. i search and search for a true private server but they all have sped up exp, new gear, or random shit. I dream of the old Wow. if blizzard just started over.... just.... to me they dont have a game anymore.... theyre just milkin a concept...
Just browsing through UA-cam on a beautiful saturday evening when this song pops up again, out of nowhere. I'm an adult (at least that's what I thought I was) tearing up over Pamela and her quest line. Again. Beats most major story in the game by far.
Here in 2021, listening to this masterpiece and remembering the good old 2004/2005 when I did this quest. Damn, I cried so much back then, many manly tears were shed.
i did not kill a single crusader doing this quest chain, i just get into hearthglen fleeing from the one who aggroed me, and then used divine shield to get in, take the item needed, and get out. Yea u need to be pala for make it without dying
Found out they removed this quest chain today. Hit me like a ton of bricks. Ill NEVER forget this quest chain until the day i die. One of the absolute best storys ive ever heard in my entire life. Thank you so much Cranius for making this song. It means more than you could realize. Im a HUGE fan of your work, your music and your videos are absolutely amazing. I look forward to hearing new music from you everyday. Again, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for your amazing work, sir.
...played WoW for 6 years. The quests pretty much all run together, but I have always remembered this one. This was a wonderful vid. thanks for sharing it.
Great song... Like armsdragon05 mentioned... these little things were what made wow so incredible for me... I also remember I actually wanted to KILL that bastard Stalvan when I was doing that questline... Incredible and wonderful quest-stories...
In my opnion, Wrath was the greatest expansion. Not because of Northrend content, or because of Deathknights or because it introduced flying to the game, but because you where finally able to make Arthas pay for everything he had done. Everything him and Nerzhul did to ravage the world and destroy azeroth. The redpaths, Scholomance, and even the horrors of Lorderon.
+Alexander Anderson Arthas really didn't do anything at all to be honest. If anything, he's pretty much a misled hero. I find Arthas and more importantly - the Scarlet Crusade to be the pinnacle of Blizzard's story-telling. Like, they're good but at the same time, they're bad. Rather than the goody-two-shoed Alliance lore-characters we have these days and the evil Horde that claims to be good. I hope they somehow return to what they used to do!
Yep, here I am, 5 years later, I'm about to fully enter what we call "adulthood". A lot of work is facing me, all of my good memories reviving a little while listening again to all those songs that made my heart beat while playing WoW, this game that is way more than just a game. Wonderful times. The only thing I hope is that I would feel again this indescriptible spark in the future. Nostalgia's a bitch...
2024, and this song/video/quest still gets to me.

Definitly man! I totally agree with you man. There were many of these.
years later I still come back to this song
We all do
+1
Indeed.
years later and I still tear up to this song.
I remember when I heard this song is what led me to go actually finish this quest chain
2019 and this song still gives me the chills...

It will never not give me chills.
I will return here always
Now 2020.....

Doing the quest now, reading every word of it in your honor.
*salutes*
I found this song when I was 11. I am 26 now and it still gives me chills. Thank you Cranius for the good music and good memories. I have never forgotten this song and many others of yours.

Before the time it takes for this mortal heart to beat, this piece already crushes and reduces me to tears.
It's been 14 years and i stumbled upon this in my old account's playlists, thank god it's awesome
I still remember the lyrics..." and your father's coming home again, the war for him is over" always make me teary :)
It's been 14 years. A long road, getting from there to here. The last few years have been dark, barren, and tortured. I hope they turn once more towards better times.

I love this song. Not ashamed to admit I cry every time.
I came back to this song. I left wow But I always come back to this song...Cranius You are a legend, Hope you are doing well.
Always a nice trip down nostalgia lane, the song holds up.
this quest is heartbreaking, poor little pamela :(
I'll never forget the hayday of wow at its heights. All the Machinima's and rap videos and things. Though out of all of them this one was always my favorite. Brought back a lot of wonderful memories of the first time I completed the full old school version of this quest. So very rewarding. Thank you!
Same here on my Rogue. Ahhh the old days when stories hit ya in the feels.
Seeing the video yet again, brings it all back.
when I did it on my pally, I was a river of tears. right in the feels *cries on Mia's shoulder*
The part about her dad and hat the war is over....MAKES ME TEAR UP EVERY TIME!
Yeah. I remember doing this questline. The best thing ever! :(
Yeah. does me too. Also, reminds me of real things that my nation is doing.
2021 and it still does for me too
years later I can still say I get misty the first time you get to say "Darrowshire," that's inspiring. Please keep on.
Years later, every time I play through this questline on an alt, I have to have this playing in the background.
Its no longer the same questline. :(
Well it is if your playing on one of the many private servers out there ;)

Ahw I just keep coming back to this! ❤ And not just to this one, to all of your songs. They mean so much to me! Thank you ❤
With the return of WoW Classic, we'll get to relive this all over again.
... Just one day... Put some Bard in WoW... AND MAKE HIM A CHARACTER IN HIS HONOR TO SING THIS SONG AT STORMWIND OR IN THE HAND OF TYR !!!
Yes please
how have i never seen this before? legendary algorithm pull
I'm not normally one to cry at movies and the like, but this is one of the few things that can literally bring tears to my eyes and give me chills.
Arrh man i cant believe i waited this long to hear this. Its so awesome. How i miss the legacy and community of the early universe of WoW.
Oh this brings back some memories... When I first heard this song I went back and replayed this quest on my paladin. I miss those days, sadly WoW is no longer what it used to be... no deep hidden gems of story, just unrefined fetch quests with no real emotion to them.
Still makes me cry! 2024
They just don't make quests like they used to... I miss this questline (pre-cata). I cried many a manly tear the first time I did it.
First time? Dude, every time.
6 yrs old and still brings a tear to the eye. GREAT JOB CRANIUS!
oh them memories and feels! Still get's me in 2017!
It is mode march 2023 and this video/song still gets to me. I have watched it for God only knows how many times. I loved this quest line so much. I just waited to get my alts to EPL to do it. Yes, it created a lump in my throat every time but I had to help Pamela!

It's 2016! What is this...why is all this dust still in my eyes? /*grabs for a tissue*

I know that feel, there is something hopelessly sad about ghost little girls that does not know they are dead...
I am glad we made her rest in peace.
Thanks Cranius for the beautiful song.
2018 HERE
There have been a total of two times I had to stop playing because I was tearing up. This quest was the first time. The emotion in this quest series just hit me like a brick. Maybe two. The second was the first time I ran through Darkshore after Cata. Everything I remembered was gone, replaced with the shattered remains and dead bodies. I think I actually logged out for a bit on both.
Awesome job, Cranius, on keeping the memory alive!
i cry. Darrowshire remembers. Please, return to vanilla this summer.
Gooo
i stopped playing wow but i still love these songs and all the legacy of the game i played for a decade
I love the other videos, but this one is really a emotion-ripper and is probably my favorite.
The new achievement to unlock old Scholomance brought me here. Masterpiece.
Inspired me to start on a book surrounding Darrowshire. It's split off into it's own thing now, but it's heavily WoW based.
Firose Also want a link!
Firose lnik please
Firose We want the link!
honestly guys, I've barely started on it. I'm in school for an engineering degree so it's difficult to have time to write. Besides it's my first writing project so it's likely that it won't be that good.
In that case it is fine xD I just thought you were done with it xD
2023
When i back to this video it always an eternal reminder that the world i grew up does not exist anymore and move forward whit out forget what it was back them
I have'nt seen this song of Darrowshire in a long time and i still love it the first time i saw it.
A random day with bad sleep, woke up with this tune inside my head. Had to come here to relive the memory!
My congratulations to 1 000 000 views! Quite an unique video and still very good after all these years.
This guy was a genius. Im so sad nothing more will be available. Such a great man.
it's 2023 and this song is still an absolute banger!
2024.🙂

holy...i didn't just stream tears i literally broke down and cried like full blown....wow
many years. still tears
Those damn onion cutting ninjas again , in Darrowshire :c
Wow the actual quest chain is just as heartbreaking as the song.
Well done!
2019 Wow Classic Dolly Quest accepted and first i have to start this song.
Still tears my heart out. I love Cranius. Because of them, I gained a greater passion for the smaller side stories in WoW.
This song is amazing, have heard it 50 times or something, and still love it :-3
This song got me through some rough times, its sad yet inspireing, i regularly come back to listen to it. It is hard to think this is now over 10 years old.
Hang in there bud....
darrowshire really changes men
going thru the darrowshire line right now on wrath classic, listening to this song on replay as always.
It's a real shame WoW has lost all its flavour. Stuff like this was what made WoW amazing.
should see Dreanor the stories they put in are amazing
***** They're really not
***** I found them to be really fun
Sam Cooper agree bro ^^
fix djole WoD is awesome and i see why people love it, but Cata and MoP killed wow for me, i played when wod came out level 2 toons too 100 and then quit, i cant handle wow anymore, its lost its magic in my opinion, but for new players WoD is great.
Legendary, u have my utmost appreciation and admiration for your legendary work here, Sir Cranius.
"Sometimes people ask what was The Scourge Invasion like? I get a chill every time I hear this song.
And I'll always remember my level 60 dwarf hunter with whom I did the first time this chain.
Really great job,Cranius!

Cranius! it would be so cool if you would make a comeback when the new nos/Elysium server launch!
Just browsing through UA-cam on a beautiful saturday evening when this song pops up again, out of nowhere. I'm an adult (at least that's what I thought I was) tearing up over Pamela and her quest line. Again.
Beats most major story in the game by far.
Smilin' Jim was close.
But alas, the days of the crusade has passed and big, fat, furry pandas roam the lands...
Johnny Midnite They did before.. The pandaren had a somewhat large role in the defense of Khaz'modan.. well one. who happened to be in a bar nearby.
Here in 2021, listening to this masterpiece and remembering the good old 2004/2005 when I did this quest. Damn, I cried so much back then, many manly tears were shed.

Pamela wants her daddy. They are in the way. They must go!
We are going home.
Yes bro!
...played WoW for 6 years. The quests pretty much all run together, but I have always remembered this one. This was a wonderful vid. thanks for sharing it.
Lots of ninjas slicing onions here..
2021 and yes the game is "still" alive
i really hope Mr.Cranius still plays wow, if not i hope he returns for warlords of draenor at least!
This is such a well written song. I've not played this game in years but I keep coming back to this.
I still love this
Yup this never gets old, still the best wow song ever made!
Every time I level a new character and I get to this quest I come back and watch this.
It is sad they did not give her a place in Shadowlands. Guess today's devs don't even have an idea about the story of this girl did exist.
Amazing Song... I listen to it every day and I can't get bored of it ...
Finally we can do this questline again
yes we can... god damn it..
This still packs a punch no netflix concoction ever will.

Дароушир!
I'm so so glad I managed to do quests like this before. Such memories... quests that could be made songs of.. oh, wait..
Great song...
Like armsdragon05 mentioned... these little things were what made wow so incredible for me...
I also remember I actually wanted to KILL that bastard Stalvan when I was doing that questline...
Incredible and wonderful quest-stories...
Always right in the feels with this song.
+Ionescu Cosmin Yeah... arthas didn't do anything hu.. well.. the forsaken beg to differ. Uther the light bringer would also beg to differ.
He was possesed by Frostmourne. :P
Wrath didnt introduce flying,BC did it.
+Alexander Anderson
Arthas did nothing wrong.
Good times, good times...
are these videos ever entered into those blizzard contests... just saying that the Don't make me get my main vid should of won one of the contests
He entered "Don't make me get my main" at errr the Cata blizzcon or something, if I remember right.
Is my memory correct about the fact that Pamela's quest chain just ended unresolved prior to cataclysm?
Sup arch :D, pretty sure it was always the same in cata and vanilla
*Edit, meant to say it had the same ending.
Yeah, the cata version is
1: Shorter
2: PISS EASY
3: Really soddy boring compared to the original.
4: Not nearly as touching.
Yeah, I was very disappointed by what they did to it in Cata.
Cata was the expac that kinda killed the entire game for me. They had so much going for it then just make it to easy and boring
This never gets old.
2019 anyone?
man, has it really been 10 years? amazing how time flies and how a game can change your life.
