    Hey guys, just to sum up this video. If you use "Auto" it WILL use your custom game profiles. If you use "Gamepad" it will BYPASS all your custom game profiles and won't use them.

    Appreciate the efforts dude, you working away on problems and solutions are what give every owner a better experience.
    When it comes to auto mode i think that is actually a somewhat positive thing to be honest, it just could be clearer what Auto mode does from Asus themselves. But actually having a setting that sets each game to the program you have setup is pretty cool and it actually warns you of this when you try to launch a game in desktop mode by saying you have a custom file setup for this game do you want to switch to auto mode to use it... so yeh i think thats pretty cool and being able to switch to controller mode to go back to stock controller settings is pretty cool too... it is confusing though and could be clearer what Auto actually does.
    However i too have had the problem where if i delete a profile it somehow remembers that profile and still sets it up that way, i think i said something similar to you on a previous video few days ago... thats very strange, so yeh look forward to the next one, cheers.

      Thanks! Yeah I think it was your comment and someone elses where I started looking into it further. On that pop up there is also a "Don't show again" message which some people might click not really knowing the difference, and then wonder why the settings aren't saving. However, the main issue is the triggers not showing 100% for a lot of people makes it where you'd have to go into every game and set it to 90% (or whatever deadzone there is) or use gamepad for a global preset. Which is going to be a real problem if people are having trigger issues to go into every game individually.
      It'd be nice if Asus had a "set this for all games" check box to reset them and be able to fix triggers, then set custom profiles. For me, I play a lot of driving games and the trigger issues are horrible. In other games I could see where it doesn't matter too much though. Maybe they could even add a "Use Game Profile" option instead of Auto. So then Auto is a leave and forget, then have a "Custom Game" one that will show up. Just like you said though it's weird and not intuitive. Especially the profiles still holding values after being deleted.

      Hey thanks! I personally don't mind tinkering, however, I don't think it's something I'd put on the channel. There can be weird bugs, where AMD Control panel stops working (because of windows overriding the driver and having a miss match between the driver/software), or issues when Asus actually releases the drivers, etc. So it's not something I'd recommend people do, except those that like tinkering (like myself). However, when the new drivers do drop from Asus, I'll definitely be running a few benchmarks and making a video on it :)

      @@FahdRiyami Hey, yeah I wasn't meaning its not working up front. But if Windows or Asus overrides the driver, then you could get an AMD miss match for the control panel. Which might or might not happen. But if it does it'd leave a lot of people that aren't tech savvy wondering why.
      I've even had multiple times where I install official drivers from AMD (on other laptops & the ROG on a fresh install via USB) and windows overrides the driver causing the control panel to stop working until re-installing again.

    There is another problem with the emulation. Older games AC do not emulate left and right mouse button presses at the same time. Those. if you're playing stalker, you can't walk, aim and shoot at the same time. The right trigger will simply not work, or will work with a delay. You can also test this in Modern Warfare 2009, with keyboard emulation.

      That reminds me of a keyboard I had a while back where it'd disable a key if you pressed certain keys. That's a really annoying issue. I'm hoping to have a very in-depth video coming out sometime soon covering everything about the controls :)

    This has answered the question on why I had problems with setting individual game profiles which did not work. If I understand correctly I would need to set it to auto to pick up my custom game profile controls? I tried to create a profile for modern warfare 3, which did not support controller as an old game. However, I kept selecting the controller setting instead of auto, which probably explains why it didn’t work.

    • @filt3rless
      @filt3rless  Рік тому +1

      Yes, that is exactly why it wasn't working. It's beyond strange that Asus did it this way. I used to think Auto meant it'd automatically switch to Desktop / Gamepad (which it does do), but the actual "Gamepad" setting is completely different and overrides all the custom profiles you have set. So you'll need to be in "Auto" and it select the gamepad mode automatically while still showing Auto for it to use custom profiles.
      Even reading what I just wrote is beyond confusing, just like the choices Asus made with the way this function works 🤣

      @filt3rless  Рік тому

      I just looked into this further and I do see what you mean. The xbox controllers are registering sooner. Upon looking at calibration/testing software if you press slightly on the xbox controller, it's registering further on the mapper than the Ally. So you can use 3rd party software to "help" but that is a design flaw on the Ally. I hadn't personally noticed it till you said something. I'm going to test it a bit more and see if there are some settings I could come up with that would help people.

  • @survivalmemo
    @survivalmemo Рік тому +2

    Asus should put out an update to fix this. GamePad mode should use the custom profile if it is set for the game else it should use the global profile.
    Also, they should provide a menu option where we can go and delete the gamepad profile that we don't need anymore. I have many profile for the games that I have already removed from Ally. It is super annoying to go through all those names in the select template list.
    And also the power profiles that are associated with the games are annoying (since we are not able to reset them), when using G-Helper because I believe that even when I have the G-Helper running in the background if I launch a game that has a power profile associated with it, it will use the old power profile from the armouy crate (I have to double check on this but there should be an option to clear/reset those settings)
    Edit: Nice find on the modes :)

    • @filt3rless
      @filt3rless  Рік тому

      Thanks and you're 1000% right!!. Auto should just be to switch back and forth "Automatically" from desktop so you can use mouse and desktop shortcuts. It makes 0 sense to have gamepad not use the game profiles...
      Also I agree with what you said with G-Helper. I think it's remembering profiles, even deleted ones and doing it's own thing overriding G-Helper. Overall a completely frustrating experience that is definitely not user friendly. And it's another reason I run G-Helper with everything Asus disabled. I'm tired of messing with settings and would like to just play a game, on a gaming handheld... 🤣
      They definitely need to add that "reset" settings button for people. If someone has been using custom profiles and then realizes they have a joystick issue, it'd be a nightmare to go into every single game and change that, or a trigger issue, or any other problems.

      Hey, yes I made it private. I had always used Windows Calibration over years and years and thought it worked great, but after getting a few comments I did further testing and it wasn't working in multiple driving games (which are the most important games to have proper trigger calibration).
      Here is a video I did a while back (ua-cam.com/video/SIXmsfNa0PY/v-deo.html) and it's not as detailed but this method is what you should use. It calibrates across everything (when in Gamepad mode). To be able to use Auto, you'll have to go into each game and drop down the deadzone.

I think using "Gamepad" mode is better though, I just wanted to let you know why it wasn't working in Auto. That's the reason I made the video. However, if you've already been using AC, and have a trigger deadzone or joystick deadzone then every game has to be set manually that you've already started. Or just use gamepad mode to bypass al the profiles.

      One thing you could also try is see if an external xbox controller actually does work. Just make sure you turn "Embedded controller" of when you do that because if not, it'll detect both the Ally and the external controller.
