Thanks, man. I'm about to pick one of these up. Totally new to it, but the sound is really unique. Spruce or mahogany.....tough choice.

So as I heard thy spruce one is sounds a bit more sonorous and light/bright, and that one of the mahogany is quieter (for me it is not warmer). This is essentially my first instrument received only yesterday, so maybe I just don’t hear this “warmth” in mahogany instrument. Last year there were both models in my city musical store, and this year only thy spruce one. So because of that I was worrying a bit was I not making mistake buying a spruce one, but after your video I'm sure that I made the right choice. I have a small hands, so playing guitar is hard for me yet. At first I thought about playing the ukulele, but after trying this Seagull Merlin, I fell in love with the sound, and how easy it is to play on. Thanks for your advices, lessons, guides, and versus of M4 models. It’s very hard to find information about them on my native language, but most of your video guides I understand! So thank you a lot!

What's the name of the song you're playing? Would be way more fun to learn than campfire songs lol

For my money, I like the warmer tone of the Mahogany Merlin. The Spruce definitely has a brighter sound though. I think the Mahogany would be best for folk style music.

Thanks Ryan, can definitely hear a difference. Did both Merlins have the same brand and gauge strings?

Hi Ryan thanks for the videos. If I wanted to tune the dulcimer CGcc, do you have any idea what string gauges to use?

Technically you can use the one that it comes with and just tune down. Thats the best bet that way you can change key as needed between the two. But if you find the string to loose the you can go up a gauge. It might be a little trail and error as I haven't tried.

Kerstin Leyla Jansen-Diouani The M4 and the SG are the same thing. I think SG is the model number and the M4 is the name they changed it to from the Merlin. I play the seagull cause it's whay I found first. The Woodrow looks and sounds like a great instrument as well and I might get one soon.
