@OceanBlue, yea, we know that not ALL British are protestants, but the Church of England is. therefor when they said "protestants", they implied Britain. there is no reason to get technical about it. it was SNL's sly joke implying the British invasion of Ireland. as for the IRA being terrorists, says who? the IRA was a response to Britain's oppression of Ireland. one glaring example of that was the British seizure of Ireland's food during the Great Famine, causing more than one million people to die from starvation. if anything, it was the British who were the terrorists. I'm sure that if Hitler would have won WWII, the history books would have labeled the Jews and USA as the bad guys.
Or, as the British were telling the Americans for years, the IRA were terrorists who killed innocent British civilians (including a bombing aimed at my dad, which was bizarre, given that he had absolutely nothing to do with Ireland and had no power and WTF?). But, or course, in America you kept funding them believing them to be a 'militia'. In the end, both Loyalist and Republican sides mostly put their weapons down and decided to just get on with living. In America, after 9/11, of course, terrorism was bad. And Americans loved to tell me that, as a Brit, I've never had to face a terrorist threat before. Yeah: I'd only seen my own father's name on an IRA kill list. Also: Take it from me: the British are not Protestants - the Protestants in question are loyalist Irish. The fact is that a majority of Irish in Northern Ireland identify as loyalist - and that's important to understand as well - they are IRISH.
