To be perfectly Frank, this is competitive Pokemon battling. Obviously not every Pokemon will be viable. Especially ones coming out of the very first generation of Pokemon. So, it's kind of silly to be disturbed by the fact that most gen 1 Pokemon fall short. Power creep is a stupid term. There's so many Pokemon in the later generations that don't have very much higher stats than the average gen 1 Pokemon. Heck, there are some gen 3 Pokemon with higher stat totals than many legendary. All Pokemon are usable, perhaps not in competitive play, but usable nonetheless. I've even watched people beat games with Magikarp. I am a huge fan of cloyster. However, most of Gen 1 deserve the bench.
@@gamermanzeake I don't think anyone here was disturbed by gen 1 mons dropping off, it's just nice to see one that was designed well enough to remain relevant. Also power creep isn't a stupid term, it's very accurate. Yes not every Pokémon got stronger but the upper heights of power did increase with each generation, which is exactly what power creep refers to.

skill link cloyster is NASTY, get a baton passer that knows swords dance/agility and you can turn cloyster into an absolute monster. Plus i'm.pretty sure shellder learns focus energy at some point
FreetStighter Right! I've never been much of a competitive player myself, so I always assumed that the "best" pokemon were the fan-favorites like Garchomp or Mewtwo. Knowing that a not-as-popular pokemon such as Cloyster is actually pretty good is awesome!
yeah lots of fan favorite pokemon sucks in competetive (Charizard before megas, piakachu etc although some like garchomp and emwtwo deserve their fame) while some ignored pokemon are insanely powerfull.
Well Garchomp and Mewtwo are quite powerful, I don't use any Legendaries, or Megas, so I don't know much on Mewtwo's strength, but I do run Garchomp and it kicks butt. But there are also Pokemon that people won't even think of running that are extremely powerful. Take my Furfrou set for example: Nobody even remembers Furfrou or they think that it's trash, but I, despite me being a cat person, would say that it's my second favorite Pokemon (after Garchomp because it's had a lot of clutch). My set is a Jolly Furfrou with Fur Coat, which is Furfrou's only ability that doubles it Defense stat. Furfrou has a base 60 def, which is poop, but with Fur Coat, it's essentially 120 (idk if that's how stat calculations work lol). Idk what my Furfrou's def IV is because I'm not SUPER competitive either, but for the sake of calculations, lets say that it's 31. At level 100 with 255 def EVs, Furfrou has 219 def x2 because Fur Coat, so it's 438. Then Furfrou has access to Cotton Guard, which raises the Def stat by +3 (x2.5), so in just two turns it has x4 Def. that makes it a whopping 1752 Def. Then it ALSO has Charm, so that it can stall out Swords Dance and lower the opponent to x0.25 attack in just 3 turns. so after just 5 turns, it's already only taking 1/32 of the damage that it'd normally be taking from physical attackers. Add in a Rocky Helmet, which damages the opposing Pokemon if they use a contact move (which is most physical attacks) and they take more damage attacking than they deal. Now you're thinking "That's excellent! But wouldn't it still eventually take enough damage to faint and wouldn't Toxic still destroy it?" and the answer is yes. Unless you run Rest. Rest solves all your problems! Granted, you're a sitting duck while you're asleep, but that won't even matter because they're taking damage from their own attacks while you only lose like 10 HP max. In the last moveslot is Facade, because if they do try to kill Furfrou with Toxic, it's fun to punish them and then sleep! "CJ!" you must be asking, "But what's stopping them from just switching to a special attacker and setting up on you while you're asleep??" Nothing. But you'd be really surprised about just how stupid people are and they just don't switch out and also it's good in 1v1s Here's my Furfrou murdering a sharp af boi: replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen71v1suspecttest-643535568

+Arrior 115 That's probably because if he covers OU Pokémon, we kinda expect the verdict to be "... was great". It's more interesting to see the underdogs. With that being said, it was nice to see a Pokémon again that was actually amazing.
StrasbergProtégé Not necessarily. I doubt many people know how all pokemon were competitively in each gen so it's hard to refer to "OU" as there's technically 7 different ones and only a handful of pokemon have been OU forever so it won't be easy to predict, especially since some pokemon were bad or "not so good" but then turned OU due to buffs in gens such as blaziken. Further more, my point was more in a reference to pokemon that don't have any offensive purpose at all (Smeargle, shuckle, umbreon, etc) They do the same thing every gen and that was just simply boring to watch.
+Arrior 115 Because sometimes there's more to it than what meets the eye, and because Smogon articles are not always specific on why a Pokémon sucks. Sure the Shuckle video was dumb, but the Moltres video for example was quite interesting even though it never dropped to NU (though one might have expected it)
+Just Breathe The Shuckle video was dumb, but I thought it was interesting to see how for example Umbreon and Smeargle could drop so badly while being great as a defensive Pokémon another Gen. Also, I'm pretty sure everybody knew that Tyranitar, Scizor, Skarmory, Zapdos, Gengar, and maybe Starmie would be considered great.
I won't give up until we get a GRASS TYPE again! We haven't seen one since... Venusaur, and that was like the second video ever in this channel or so. How GOOD were Tangela and Tangrowth ACTUALLY?

2019. Got absolutely destroyed by one in Gen8 online. No dynamax needed. If you don't have a fast hard hitting answer to it, when the thing shell smashes, you're SCREWED!
Cloyster isn’t grinning much these days. It’s currently RU in Gen 7, and isn’t moving up anytime soon. Gen 7 has been terrible for Pokemon. With so many OP Ultra Beasts and Megas running around that can hit hard from the word go, and in some cases get stronger through sweeping, The meta game has no room for the classic set up sweeper anymore. Gen 7 is a new power creep generation, and several old classics just can’t cut the mustard. Breloom, Gengar, Scizor...they can’t keep up. And unless something drastic happens, the meta game is going to be running rampant with Ultra Beasts and Megas for the foreseeable future.
+EdmacZ I just checked out the most recent OU list for Gen 7, and only 46 Pokémon are from a past Gen. Out of those, only 15 are not legendaries/mythicals, pseudo-legendaries, or Mega-Evolutions.
Breloom and Scizor, yes, but I really think Gengar with Levitate would have kept up. Gengar's case was less about being phased out by new Pokémon and more about being actively nerfed by the powers that be. Cursed Body is trash on something so frail.
Gen 7 indeed has been power creeping indeed. From a Stall Metagame to a Terrain Metagame to the return of Weather Meta, lots of pokemon there are not kind to the set up sweepers, especially in an OU tier dominated by Heatran, Landorus T and Toxapex
IMO its one of the best spinner. Its defense and attack are very high and you can assault vest to get a more than decent speial defense. It has STAB earthquake and a great coverage with Thunder and Firefang so it can just stay in battle and kill 1 or 3 Pkm like it is nothing.
I love Cloyster's competitive history purely because it's always been good, but it's rarely ever been good for the same reasons multiple times. It's really adapted as time's gone on, which barely ANYTHING ELSE IN THIS SERIES has done! Anyway, my vote's for *Murkrow and Honchkrow.* Especially just to see how the video(s) would be handled!
Just get one yourself. That's how Gliscor became one of my favorite mons in Gen 5 :D It was so annoying to fight, that I just got my own. And I love how so many people online didn't seem to know it's part ground type and tried electric attacks over and over again :D That's sadly gone starting with Gen 7.
Actually Alakazam was consistently better than Garde in every gen except maybe 3, even her mega, which is a really strong wallbreaker is almost always outclassed by either Mega-Kazam, Tapu-Fini and Lele. Garde only niche is her speed control with Icy Wind/T-Wave, Will-o-Wisp and her massively strong Hyper Voice, and you REALLY need to want one of those things on your team to justify using her over those three above.
Trying to train my gen 3 Cloyster. My god what a nightmare. This thing isn’t viable in a fight unless your opponent is a ground type which is likely to be slower than he is. The only offensive moves it learns are Ice type.
I never gave much thought to Cloyster. There's a bunch of water types even in gen 1 and it seemed kind of...average. Cool to see that it was actually really good. Now I can't wait to use it in xd gale of darkness.
InfiniteBacon saddly not that great... Electivire stats lacks for good solo... has potential in double tho... it lacks the speed of other Electric types or HP IIRC but yeah I cant remember for sure but I know It lacked a certain stat.... either Speed that would make it an attacker or hp/def/SpDef that would make it a tank... could do a search to make rhis post kess shady but Im no expert... just someone who once wanted to use Electivire in Competitive and got disapointed
Cloyster was my first water teammate AND where I leaned about EVs (or whatever they were called in gen1) Because at lvl100 I KNEW it had 300 defense...and suddenly it had 301, and eventually 302...so i knew somehow it was gaining stats. I didn't understand how or why when I was just 11 playing Pokemon, in fact I didn't put 2 and 2 together until I finally learned about those kinds of mechanics when I picked pokemon pack up in college with pokemon Ruby
Incredibly good in R/S/E Nuzlocke's. Stats were still low enough then for Dusclops to be all but immortal. It would have been so much fun if it had been Ghost/Dark.
Cloyster is one of the few ice types that does well competitively (Weavile, Mamoswine, Kyrem Black, and A-Ninetaile, on the top of my head, are the only other ice types that I can think of that do well competitively)
when I was a kid I loved and first watched first gen pokemon Cloyster immediately became my favorite pokemon. His smug ass smile full of confidence and its inside of a huge cool looking shell WITH SPIKES none the less. Like how can you not love that pokemon?
I still love Cloyster in gen 8. It helped me reach Master Ball Tier in ranked doubles 💛 (used it as counter against focus sash users, grass types, and dragon types haha)
so many pokemon benifit from Liquidation now Ferraligator and Kingler now have a very good sheer force water move Barbaracle has a tough claws boosted liquidation eliminating razor shells miss just like Cloyster Armaldo can use it in the rain with swift swim Swanna can run Brave Bird and Liquidation to be full physical instead of mixed and Crawdaunt has a pretty crazy Adaptibility Liquidation
This guy and Vileplume have been my go to since Gen 1. Still remember sitting in the back of my mom's jeep Cherokee 12 hours into a 18 hour road trip to Florida holding a flashlight up to my Gameboy fishing with my brand new good rod and pulling up my first shellder. When I got into online play everyone always slept on some of my pokemon choices but cloyster seemed to always make em pay.
Id recommend Togekiss, but everyone watching the video would continuously flinch lol. Great video False Swipe - thanks for your awesome (unbiased) reviews!
Sucks how Hitmonchan was screwed over till gen 4 and even then, it still could not keep up. AT least it was fun to use with the elemental punches and having the ability, iron fist to make up for the fact it didnt get STAB
Great video! But I hope you will redo it for Cloyster! Interesting moveset and roles throughout the generations. I'm sure you, your team, and this grinning Mon can produce a beautiful 20+ min video :)
I used to love pairing Shell Smash Cloyster with a bulky Light Screen Magnezone (holding clay, of course). Typically ran a Focus Sash on Cloyster, so it was pretty vulnerable to priority, but when that wasn't a threat, that set-up generally cleaned out entire teams.
You should've mentioned in gen seven, in Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon specifically, it has access to the new move Liquidation via a move tutor. Basically, a superior version of Razor Shell
I needed this video to explain why Cloyster is in gen 8 ubers. I've fallen victim to several Cloyster Shell Smash Sash leads. So much so that I usually lead with my phaser Kommo-o just to Dragon Tail or Red Card the shell away.
Typhlosion started off pretty good with powerful eruptions and a decent special attack, but it couldn't keep up with the power creep. Meganium started off as a decent dual screens setter and grass type support, but also quickly got passed over for the newer, better grass types like Tangrowth, and Roserade. So yeah, Feraligatr was the only one to stay decently relevant with its setup sets.
Back when it was still physical, this really big part of me wanted to see Cloyster get Water Shuriken. Base 75 STAB priority after Shell Smash is definitely a respectable trait.
12:10 I forgot to put in the silhouette lol but Houndoom is next since it had the most votes from last weeks video.

Cloyster is my favourite Pokémon. It's nice to see it get some love. Thanks for doing this.
How G O O D was Exeggutor A C T U A L L Y ?
Can we finally get this one done? ;-;
Ampharosite I think they maybe want to wait until Gen 7 has passed so they can take its Alola form into account for the video.
This thing with shell smash has sweeped my entire team more than once, damn it I hate it :(
Just get one yourself. That's how Gliscor became one of my favorite mons in Gen 5 :D It was so annoying to fight, that I just got my own. And I love how so many people online didn't seem to know it's part ground type and tried electric attacks over and over again :D That's sadly gone starting with Gen 7.
M. M. Thanks for the advice.
M. M. I did this with chansey. I have lost all my friends.
lorelei cloyster was very hard in pokemon blue and from that moment I wanted it on my team, I currently use it in pokemon sword
Togetic and Togekiss?
Eptastella yes I love useing togekiss in platinum and soul sliver
How GOOD was Gardevoir ACTUALLY? :D
Gardevoir? Isn’t that what people fap to on /e/?
Better than Alakazam
no never fuck off
Actually Alakazam was consistently better than Garde in every gen except maybe 3, even her mega, which is a really strong wallbreaker is almost always outclassed by either Mega-Kazam, Tapu-Fini and Lele. Garde only niche is her speed control with Icy Wind/T-Wave, Will-o-Wisp and her massively strong Hyper Voice, and you REALLY need to want one of those things on your team to justify using her over those three above.
Good enough for porn. 😏
Still voting for Exeggutor or the Gen 1 Battling vid.
Part 3 of gen 1 battles soon?
Also this was an uplifting one compared to the last few. Nice job Cloyster!
Never imagined cloyster was this good! Great video
How good was Aggron ACTUALLY?
How good was Sandslash actually???????
KidGamer998 always crap
gonna keep posting until tentacruel gets some love.
Trying to train my gen 3 Cloyster.
My god what a nightmare.
This thing isn’t viable in a fight unless your opponent is a ground type which is likely to be slower than he is.
The only offensive moves it learns are Ice type.
what about surf?
@@gregorymirabella1423 level up
I really like cloyster(especially skill link) so I'm glad it was good at quite a few points
How good was Tentacruel actually?
i knew cloyster was amazing but I did'nt think it was that good :D nice video as always
I never gave much thought to Cloyster. There's a bunch of water types even in gen 1 and it seemed kind of...average. Cool to see that it was actually really good. Now I can't wait to use it in xd gale of darkness.
He's been one of my fav go-tos since the 90s, but I didn't even know he's been kicking butt up to today. Keep smiling big guy!
how good was tentacruel actually
berry good video, one of my favorites of yours yet!
How good was Forretress ACTUALLY?
Also, what's the music in the background of your videos? I love it.
The music is listed at the end of the video.
Forretress is one of the best spinner and spike setter in the game nuff said
How good was electabuzz or electivire actually
InfiniteBacon saddly not that great... Electivire stats lacks for good solo... has potential in double tho... it lacks the speed of other Electric types or HP IIRC but yeah I cant remember for sure but I know It lacked a certain stat.... either Speed that would make it an attacker or hp/def/SpDef that would make it a tank... could do a search to make rhis post kess shady but Im no expert... just someone who once wanted to use Electivire in Competitive and got disapointed
I really want to see Togetic and Togekiss!!!
Lucky 98 Finally starting to get some Togekiss support! I’ve been waiting since Weavile
How good was Yanma/Yanmega actually?
Gonna keep posting about that Togekiss
Xyrofen me 2
Cloyster was my first water teammate AND where I leaned about EVs (or whatever they were called in gen1)
Because at lvl100 I KNEW it had 300 defense...and suddenly it had 301, and eventually 302...so i knew somehow it was gaining stats.
I didn't understand how or why when I was just 11 playing Pokemon, in fact I didn't put 2 and 2 together until I finally learned about those kinds of mechanics when I picked pokemon pack up in college with pokemon Ruby
How good was Dusclops/Dusknoir!!!
MrNarfRetsam bad
OU in gen 3-4. PU in the rest
Incredibly good in R/S/E Nuzlocke's. Stats were still low enough then for Dusclops to be all but immortal. It would have been so much fun if it had been Ghost/Dark.
MrNarfRetsam yes
MrNarfRetsam as much as I love those two, that video will depress me thanks to eviolite
How GOOD was Delibird ACTUALLY?
I was expecting this for the new year, kind of surprised.
was expecting Delibird for their Christmas upload
Presently not so great.
Silk scarf present and the opponent is done for
Brown Magic unless it heals them
I’m still waiting for Raichu
CloudySkies17695 he sucks, video over
Don't forget Pikachu too.
sadly, raichu has always been trash, so this video would be a little bit boring imo
CloudySkies17695 please wait
Raichu gets severely checked in smogon, but does really good in vgc. Especially specs Raichu (alola) with Rain/Elec terrain
How good was jolteon pls
How good was raichu actually?
I'd love to see the Gen l part 3 video, I'm really looking forward to it
btw it's pretty funny to see how much you've improved since the first videos :D nice going
I still love Cloyster in gen 8. It helped me reach Master Ball Tier in ranked doubles 💛 (used it as counter against focus sash users, grass types, and dragon types haha)
How good was Dusclops/Dusknoir ACTUALLY? =|
We need a CLOYSTER remake.
History of murkow and honchcrow
I feel a mega cloyster incoming for the next pokemon game. I can already see the design: MORE SHELLS!!! I actually would love to see that happening.
Will you be able to get XD footage again soon?
How good was Forretress actually? I love this mon!
How ANNOYING was Cloyster ACTUALLY?
That's gonna be the joke for the togetic/togekiss video with the damn AIR SLASH
Not to mention it now has Liquidation in gen 7 which eliminates the risk of Razor Shell missing
so many pokemon benifit from Liquidation now Ferraligator and Kingler now have a very good sheer force water move Barbaracle has a tough claws boosted liquidation eliminating razor shells miss just like Cloyster Armaldo can use it in the rain with swift swim Swanna can run Brave Bird and Liquidation to be full physical instead of mixed and Crawdaunt has a pretty crazy Adaptibility Liquidation
rly nice, but i dont believe than this make cloyster OU in gen 7
Cloyster doesnt use liq anyway, because of its basic shell smash sets
André Van der Linden you kidding why wouldn’t you run that, it’s always Shell Smash, Icicle Spear, Liquidation, Rock Blast
TheFlashzap id slap rapid spin, explosion, hydro pump or ice shard on it. But thats just my opinion ;)
Nice to see my favorite getting some love!
How good was the Dusknoir line?
How good was ponyta and rapadash actually
I'm surprised Pikachu and Raichu hasn't been done yet! (Do Raichu!)
SolCalibre probably because it has an Alola Form
How good WAS Pinsir ACTUALLY???
I'll never surrender!
Id recommend Togekiss, but everyone watching the video would continuously flinch lol.
Great video False Swipe - thanks for your awesome (unbiased) reviews!
How good was Togetic and Togekiss actually?
AIR SLASH FLINCH
AndySGaming S
I've been wanting that for weeks
How GOOD were Togetic/Togekiss ACTUALLY?
How good were the hitmons?
Nik Brusk but chan is a boxer!
Sucks how Hitmonchan was screwed over till gen 4 and even then, it still could not keep up. AT least it was fun to use with the elemental punches and having the ability, iron fist to make up for the fact it didnt get STAB
Nik Brusk wasn't top bad in singles
Jackie "CHAN"
Bruce "LEE"
... Top??
HOW GOOD WAS *MANTINE* ACTUALLY?
I will never give up from my kyte man
luc4sBR2320 it will always have Mantine Surf
If Cloyster's shell can resist bomb explosions, WHAT EXACTLY DOES CLOYSTER DO TO SMASH IT'S SHELL?
HOLY SHIT.
he just hits the "open" button game freak gave him in gen 5
How good was Feraligatr actually?
How good was Togetic (and then Togekiss since gen. 4) actually?
How GOOD were the Legendary Beasts actually?
Daniel Pérez Martín Which one then? It would be boring to have them in a row
iVol I would highly suggest making a video on Raikou, if I only had to pick one of them (the best of the LB in competitive)
How good was Pidgeot actually?
SubReikoPy Not at all and even its Mega sucks.
Outclassed by every single fully evolved flying type in the game, dodrio and fearrow are still way better than him nowadays
How good were the happiness and jubilee Pokemon: Togetic and Togekiss
I needed this video to explain why Cloyster is in gen 8 ubers. I've fallen victim to several Cloyster Shell Smash Sash leads. So much so that I usually lead with my phaser Kommo-o just to Dragon Tail or Red Card the shell away.
Cloyster has taken #3 spot in GSC OU away from Raikou and has been banned from gen 5 ou. Common Cloyster W
How Good Were The Johto Starters Actually
Typhlosion started off pretty good with powerful eruptions and a decent special attack, but it couldn't keep up with the power creep. Meganium started off as a decent dual screens setter and grass type support, but also quickly got passed over for the newer, better grass types like Tangrowth, and Roserade. So yeah, Feraligatr was the only one to stay decently relevant with its setup sets.
Decent to just left behind
How good was kapootops actually
Back when it was still physical, this really big part of me wanted to see Cloyster get Water Shuriken. Base 75 STAB priority after Shell Smash is definitely a respectable trait.
How would a clam use that move?
... Then again, a snowflake can apparently learn a move that requires poisonous arms or tentacles...
Cloyster smiles because he knows he will kill so basically he is smiling and looking into your soul...
How good was magmar and magmortar actually I won't stop asking
Daniel Leger they where competing with flareon for the title of worst fully evolved fire type
