Love this video. I do enjoy Buleit Bourbon when making an Old fashioned or Manhattan. I've been tempted to grab the single malt since I see it at the local liquor stores. I just need to not buy any expensive(to me) scotch. =)
You fellas heard of Virginia Distilling Co. They have a line of ASM finished in Port, Cabernet, and Cider casks. 40-45.00 "Cant believe its not Scotch" for 40.00 its smashable and crowd pleasing. Cabernet was my fav as it has some base notes that reminded me of Bunnahabhain. key word remind as it is lighter.
Chaps, I can’t get hold of this in the UK, I’d love to but at least I can sample it through you guys, thanks for this review and hopefully it appears in the UK soon! 🤞from your review, at least there’s no FOMO for me 😂 cheers!
This is $29.99 at my local Kroger, it was on sale for $24.99 so I picked up a bottle. At that price its great. I better buy a 2nd bottle before they figure out that's not the MSRP
Have yet to try this a tad pricey but being Ross Squibb I'm sure it is good. I'd compare this to the high malt Chattanooga bib or cask strength. Which I'm a fan of. You really have to be a malt drinker I believe too appreciate this bottle. I'm a scotch fan so malt is something I'm okay with and enjoy. But honestly the Chattanooga bib is very bourbon esk profile.
@@umami0247 I like regular bourbon, but I also like malt as you do. I think Chattanooga is bourbon with malt influence - I like it. This Bulleit is all malt, should basically be scotch flavors. All good, just wish the American malts weren’t so high priced for inexperienced malt distilleries
@@whiskeyyum1341 American single malts are not scotch by any means. Scotch being aged in used barrels for a long time is what makes it American single malts are mostly still aged in new charred oak and have no resemblance to scotch at all. The American single mall is still trying to figure out what its regulations are. I know how of just a few that are actually using used barrels and one is a American whiskey from Michters. For me the American single malts are more chocolate forward and less fruit than scotches. I will say the west coast has the best single malts with the east coast a close second. Kentucky hasn't quite got there yet Colorado is getting there. In my humble opinion. The best single malt I have every had came out of California it was Thirteen years old and 153 proof. It was a dark chocolate cola with lemon pound cake both on the nose and palate. It came from River Roots in Cleveland Ohio. It drank like it was 105 proof it was just fantastic.
This is where the S4D need to go. Thanks!!! Biggest problem with US single malt is “PRICE”. You can buy very nice scotch for equal or cheaper. They keep charging high prices for inexperienced product with min aging and low abv.
Went to a wedding recently and the only thing they had was makers mark n bulleit bourbon. The bulleit was really bad compared to makers mark. Took two sips n dumped it. Got another makers mark.
About how I feel about Bulliet bourbon. Nothing offensive easy drinking nothing exciting. I have personal memories with family and Bulliet so I have a soft spot for the company, but as a drinker I can take it or leave it
I've had many hit and misses with American single malt. Balcones and Andalusia have many great expressions but Yellowstone's single malt was just not good.
Not worth the price - at least here in Canada. There’s some good scotch for the same price locally. I like their 95/5 Rye but I always will prefer a single malt scotch. JD single malt isn’t terrific either. Single malt scotch all the way.
Based on your conversation this seems more like a compromise whisky rather than exploring the advantages of a single malt that is done in a pot still and in used barrel (bourbon/sherry/wine). This is NAS and likely what 2-3 years old? Doesn't sound like you get any complexity of flavors and none of you mentioned finish. Not very interesting IMHO.

The Jack Daniels SM is available only on travel retail stores. $100 bucks is a little too high to make me pull the trigger, though
That does seem high in price. Thanks for the info.
How does it compare to Stranahans?
This is where the S4D need to go. Thanks!!!

@whiskeyyum1341 I agree 3-6 yo whisky shouldn't be $60-70 almost all start there.

Good man. Woodford comes close and so does turkey 101, maybe buffalo trace but makers is king.
My fear is that Jack Daniel's Single Malt is a unicorn, which sucks because I've heard it's amazing.

Become a Patron and we will be getting a 4-6 SM per year that we have vetted. They are hard to find.

Fair assessment. Not the best SM but a sign that big boys are looking at the class of whisky.
Even higher proof than 80% ABV?! That means even less flavour in the spirit... not a great plan.
So inferior to single malt scotch!!
We can’t get this in the UK :( but you’re making me feel better Christine!
