  • A vocal track variant of Periphery's "Reptile", off the 2019 album "Periphery IV: Hail Satan".
The legendary song stripped down. Even more legendary than Omega, Stranger Things, or Racecar.
This track solely features the vocal, synth/string, additional guitar, and guitar solo layers. For once, no bass here. Might make a version with bass eventually, but for this legendary piece, I figured Spencer should come through as clear as possible in the track.
0:40 - Symphonic elements & symphonic drums kick in.
0:55 - [Besides Fluoride and shit].
    1:25 - It's Coming Down.
1:35 - 2:05 Those memorable vocals. Great harmonies. Amazing flare.
2:05 - Choir-like / group vocals in the back. Fantastic layering until 2:30.
2:30 has a very faint gutteral in the back. A keen ear will pick it up.
2:50 has a mad gutteral. With 2:55 being that wicked creepy moment.
3:00 - Use of additional / ambient guitars for further chaotic effect, or "insane" atmosphere, if you will.
3:55 is a layering of choir, screams, guitar, and wonder. Choir (or keys) last until 4:20.
    4:25 - Screams don't stop until... 4:40.. Christ.
    5:00 - Hook repeat.
5:45 - Takes you off your feet, as the hook tricks you into thinking there will be further repitition -- but that is not the case, it once again gets progressive -- now with some nasty screams.
6:10 - 6:35 - Is this the end of all we know? Wicked Spencer vocals here.
7:05. Interesting keys in the background. Very faint. Great Spencer screams, as well.
7:25 is absolutely breathtaking in the instrumental. Please be excited.
8:25 comes in strong with many harmonies. Melody is extremely strong here, until and after 9:00.
9:45 - The deepest, darkest, grooviest, gankest and gnarliest screaming lasting until 10:15. Spencer has never gone off in such a sick and astonishing manner.
10:25 cues in the sick part of the breakdown. However, in its stripped-down state, it is still pretty sick.
10:40 - Chilling additional guitars. Welcome back, The Focus Hour. Nice to hear from you again.
11:15 - Trademark / typical clean Periphery solo.
11:50 - Garden in the Bones motif re-emerges. Or begins here. However you wish to think it.
12:20 - True Garden in the Bones hook. Lovely piano in the back. Very apparent when stripped down.
12:35 - The additional guitars further enhance the dichotomy of Spencer's voice and the piano, creating an even more vibrant atmosphere.
13:05 is the beginning of the more electronic-portion of the song.
14:00 - Last batch of vocals (or so).
15:20 is an outro of sorts. I believe Spencer said this was mainly Jake here.

The craziest thing about Periphery is that you can listen to any of the instruments' isolated tracks and just be blown away. But then they all still fit together so well and compliment each other truly a legendary band.

Spencer is a fucking beautiful beast. They’ve all outdone themselves on this album but Spencer takes the prize. His vocals drive almost every song, as if they’re dictating where the song goes. Compared to even P3 he’s improved his technique so much.

This is absolutely insane. Honestly it felt so weird when everything went quiet, I'm so used to the instrumental already xD.
This song continues to remind me why spencer is one of the vocalists that inspires me the most. There is so much damn variety and it's all so expressive in the song. Plus I just love his sound.
On one hand I understand why he recorded this song last because it definitely appears to be the most challenging but on the other hand that must have been rough to do this last.

There’s so much synth on this album. It’s like constant throughout this song specifically. They don’t just need to recruit a new bassist, I think they might need to recruit a keyboardist as well.

Brad Hargis He did on a few tracks. Watch the documentary. It clearly shows Misha playing a bunch of the bass parts. Also he’s not gonna your live with them anymore :( that’s mostly what I meant. New people for live shows.

    • @ZolFox
      @ZolFox 5 років тому

Marco Kammer ah. ok cool. didn’t know that. But I DO know he’s essentially “left” the band (otherwise I think he would’ve been in the Blood Eagle video) and although I don’t know the extent of what that actually means, I know he won’t be touring with them. So they need a replacement in that regard. I feel like they’ll probably go with Murphy (the old bassist from P1 cuz I think he’s played with them here and there and been involved in some of the mixing and possibly writing if I’m not mistaken. All speculation on my part though. But they ARE my favorite band so I like to think that speculation carries a little weight :P yours as well apparently. Cuz I didn’t know that about the demo vs. actual tracking think with Misha/Nolly.

Ryan James fuckin A. WHY DONT I KNOW THESE THINGS BEFORE I LEAVE A COMMENT MAKING ME SOUND LIKE AN IDIOT. LOL. But seriously thanks for the info. I’d play bass for free for them. GET THE WORD OUT. I play guitar but I learned bass and drums to be able to basically Bulbify my own shit back in 05-06. So I could do it. Hey at least I got to see both full line ups live (Murphy on bass and Bois on guitar) then (Holcomb and Nolly).
