i ain't gonna lie, as a kid in the early 90s, i remember feelin' anxious being drivin' through parts of richmond to get to the asian markets. It's MUCH better today, or at least the veneer looks much better!
Yeah it became better as the years progressed. A lot of that has to do with the size of it too. Richmond is the smallest mid-sized city of the bay with under 110k population. If you look closely at that, it averaged more than 40 murders per year back in the day and people were getting time from left to right. Add in gentrification which goes for a lot of the bay including Oakland, SF, East Palo Alto, Vallejo, etc the numbers start to drop.
Richmond fucking sucks still to this day, crime rate somewhat has gone down but overall its still the same shit. North Richmond has to be one of the most dangerous places. Point Richmond is where it's at. Not much violence and really calm living.
