Anyone old enough to remember the ice-skating rink? Or Scoopy’s restaurant? I was pretty young when those closed, but in my teens donut world was still around and I sure love that place. Maybe it was called donut Palace? I don’t remember. ….
@@chadgarcia983 I don’t remember the video store, but I definitely remember the movie theater! And there was a hello Kitty store for a couple of years on the lower level near what once upon a Time was Emporium Capwell.
This is sooo sad.😢 As a kid, not only did we spend our weekends here back in the day, I worked here at Miller's Outpost as a teenager. A LOT of stores were here.
I remember Hilltop Mall from when we would visit our dad who lived in Richmond, at that time (in the 80’s) it had lots of foot traffic and I remember going up those circular walk paths
Man, I have been waiting for someone to do this. Thank you so much for the trip down memory lane. Ill never forget all the memories I had here with friends and family.
Cool video. My family moved to Richmond in '98. I remember going to Hilltop Mall every other weekend. I'd spend so much time at Suncoast browsing all the dvds. Miss those days.
I lived by Hilltop for half a decade, used to hella stoned once a week before hitting that Cinnabun lol, sad to see it truly dead. Thanks for the upload, flood of old memories coming back
I’d recognize a Taubmann designed mall anywhere, they all had similar architecture like this. Other examples are the Northridge Mall (closed), Southridge Mall (open), Marley Station Mall (open), and the Lakeforest Mall (closed).
Hilltop Mall was built on the site of a Standard Oil (Chevron) tank farm. I grew up in Richmond, lived there until early ‘80’s. Downtown Richmond was the place to shop as was El Cerrito Plaza. When Hilltop Mall came in it sucked the life out of the old downtown Richmond. My wife and infant son shopped at the Macy’s when it first opened. I remember that spiral walkway very well. Wasn’t there an indoor ice rink at the mall? There was a restaurant next door and you could watch the skaters through these glass windows.
YES! The restaurant next-door was called Scoopys I think. And the row of tables against one wall had circular cut out windows where you could watch the ice skaters.
Hilltop Mall in Richmond, California, opened in 1976 that year we celebrated the American Revolution Bicentennial. Easy on and off of Interstate 80. It's hard to imagine that the mall closed two years shy of its golden anniversary. I remember going to Sears, Macy's, JC Penney, and some of the stores as well. I also visited the food court, and there was a casual dining restaurant, Sweet River grill, and bar. The restaurant closed in 2003.
I remember Camelot, Sam goody, suncoast Woolworth’s just to name a few. There was also a sports store on the second floor that had these cool 49er and Raider helmet chairs
I started shopping at Hilltop Mall when I was in High School in Oakland at Fremont High School it was a beautiful Mall it had Macy’s, JC Penney’s there was an Ice skating rink next to an Ice Cream shop In the beginning this mall was top tier with Jewelry Stores and that was in the 70s and early 80s I’m in my 60s
There was an "attempted" raid at that mall during the Flyod riots. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a door kicked in on the south side of the building near the 24 hour fitness or where they park the amazon vans. If you just walk around the exterior and test the doors I bet one will just open.
@@chadgarcia983 If he found a way to get inside, how can I do that? Because that looks like if he and those other people I see, looks like they’re breaking in the mall!
It’s definitely sad to see Hilltop mall like that. I used to walk from Rodeo to the mail. So is there any news on what they’re gonna do with it being there’s only Walmart and 24 hour fitness left. I moved out of California so I’m out of the loop.
I remember this space from the mid seventies. IIRC, there used to be a fountain in the middle. There were odd posts with lights in them which were hot to the touch of my child sized hands.
I expected it to be a little more trashed than it is. It's always a little bit eerie driving to the Walmart there at night, that whole Hilltop area is really dark and dead after dark now.
My mom worked at the original location macys when I was growing up. Spent lots of time in that mall. I remember shirtique for sure and Sam goody. KB toys. The bread store by macys (upstairs). I remember the fountains and there were always kids falling in.
I miss the mongolian BBQ place that was one of the few things still running when I moved up here from SD. I've never seen a ghost mall til I got here. I wonder what happened?
This mall should be a great place for airsoft. I've done airsoft at two malls: Metrocenter (AZ) and Northridge (WI). They're both being demolished right now...
Hilltop mall god I remember growing up in richmond I had so much fun at this mall I met my very first boyfriend there coming home from school everyday everybody would be there not to speak of the weekend dressed in your best to go Saturday and find out where the party's was and all that god this is so sad so meny memories 😢😢😢😢
WCC is falling apart in general. I need only point out how Pathway to Choices in Pinole is now down to half-days and unreliable availability, and additionally has their case of The Heart, initials MD, no longer working there after already having been overworked before the Kincade Fire into lifelessness uncharacteristic of a mid-40s Genki Girl who would play Rules Lawyer about a mini-house art project to claim she's not cheating. It has me asking: have we really become tired of ourselves? I shouldn't even be the one asking that when I'm the one who did the trope workshop entry for Savvy Guy Energetic Girl for a reason, yet here we are. All because the community doesn't want to genuinely care. Hilltop Mall is a very good showcase of this. I remember the floor had a pattern that could be used for a stepping game. Now...yeah, what happened?
Man I used to go this mall all the time. The ice cream shop and game stop. Shieks. Running from the mall security lol the $1.10 mc chickens from McDonald’s lol those were the good times.

Is this a mall in NorCal??
Walmart was emporium capwells
Walmart was at the original Macy’s. Emporium - Capwells was at the far end and the opposite end was JCPenney if that makes any sense.
How did you get in the mall?
Because I don’t know how to do that, is there a way to get in the mall?

Sports affair! Custom hats and jerseys . Some shoes .
I have many memories in this mall. I miss it!
Thanks for the interesting (if sad, spooky!) tour. Hilltop was one of the THE places to hang out back in the early 1980s, when I was in high school.

Yeah Sanrio was next to Cinnabon. Remember Mr. Rags and Millers Outpost. Saw Mortal Kombat there hella times for a 1.50 lol
Sam Goody and I that one was Camelot Music.
I purchased my first CDs at Camelot Music at Hilltop Mall. I love this Mall and its architecture.
I didn’t even know Hilltop closed. I remember hearing about a shooting on the news. Sad all around.
