Even in affluent cities in SoCal there are increasing number of vacant storefronts. Not withstanding all the crime and homeless, California’s anti business, regulations and high taxes are slowly killing small businesses.
Don't know about Richmond, but Oakland & Berkeley are also driving away business by making it near impossible for people to park where businesses are. Exorbitant parking rates don't help encourage folks to come, either.
Internet based business has destroyed pretty much most ways we knew to buy/sell goods, with so much more accessible online, many jobs went the way of the new internet business model. I'd bet more jobs in the shipping, delivery, warehousing, distribution and related channels to replace retail.
The jobs postings lately are fake there has been reports about corporations listing fake jobs just to hold potential employees in case they wanted to fire one of their longtime regulars, google it
@AB-vc7ox Those jobs are being automated away to where only warehouse and distro jobs are left. And the current demonrat policies towards criminality means you either get robbed into bankruptcy, or close your shop and sell and leave before you do. Between that and all the artificial wage inflation, fewer jobs, not more and better paying.

Even with facts proving otherwise he just lies or doesn’t answer the question.
Wow! Another dead city/ghost town. Blows my mind how bad the Bay Area, Sacramento, Berkeley, is… When towns and cities are so run down and empty, it really brings the morale down in the people who live there. Growing up as a kid in NYC, California was a place of DREAMS for me. My parents took me to CA on a vacation and we went all the way up the coast from San Diego to Los Angeles to San Francisco. My Army Reserve unit used to be in San Pablo. And we had major problems with having our vehicles broken into. It got so bad that we were having to go to hotels over 30 miles away just to sleep in an area that would see several of us having our windows broken or cars stolen. There is a reason so many that used to live there are now gone.
The massive building was the Albany Bowl, that was there forever. It had bowling, a bar, a restaurant, some arcade machines, and pool tables, it was awesome. The owner closed it during COVID. You could order drinks while bowling, it was awesome, so many birthday parties, date nights, business parties, etc used to go down there all the time, a major blow to the area.
The mandates for the pandemic forced businesses to close here in long beach,CA some streets are ghost towns but it isn't as bad as the bay area. For a city of about 450,000 that is a tourist destination it should be crowded here in downtown but it isn't.
Walmart had these robotic floor sweepers during COVID. I deliberately tried to get run over by these machines just to see how "perfect" they are. I was surprised they stopped every time I did it. They did a lousy job sweeping.

Thank you for these videos of the towns and cities of the Bay Area. I grew up in the East Bay, and it is so strange to see San Pablo Avenue in such bad shape. Richmond's heyday passed a couple of decades ago, because ever since it lost the character of its small downtown business architecture and walkability, it has been on a downhill slide -- but COVID and the rise of online shopping seems to have knocked it in the head. I wonder what will be done with these acres of 30-60 year old ugly, cheap rectilinear buildings surrounded by parking lots. They can't be used for anything. They are not saleable or salvageable. Someone with vision could go in, raze everything, and start fresh with smaller, mixed use housing, parks, restaurants, and online-plus-retail-store-front shops, but "good luck with that."
@catyronwode What a positive comment, that’s what we need like you said somebody smart with a vision to start fresh and see a turnaround of the city. Thank you very much for sharing.
Real estate developers are buying everything up to put in condos all around the Bay Area. There is a lot of relationships between construction, developers, and politicians. Its happened already all over other areas such as some parts of Hayward, San Leandro, San Jose, I've seen it a lot. In SF they try too, but have more trouble due to corruption about pollution cleanup--that is an interesting story in itself, for anyone that is interested. If things are going up or going down, the rich and powerful always make money.
California is going downhill fast. Yet when the people there had an opportunity to recall the governor largely responsible for the decline, they voted overwhelmingly to keep him in office. Not much sympathy for those folks, though I do feel sorry for honest, hardworking Californians.
Really sad. I lived in the Bay area in the 90s, and Richmond was a nice area. The government of CA has turned much of the region into an open festering sore. It had started in the 80s. In the 90s, tourists were already sending complaining letters to the S.F. newspapers, describing how they had to carefully step over human waste, used syringes, and unconscious people lying in the doorways and on the sidewalks of even the Best hotels and shops, and that they would find some other place to vacation.
I think you’re mistaken my friend. My president told me everything is alright. Record low unemployment. Low gas prices. Prices are going down all across the country. Smooth sailing. 👍Theirs a light at the end of the tunnel. 👍. !!! He left out that light is a freight train coming towards us at 200 miles an hour. Hang on brothers and sisters. The ride is going to be horrible. 😢
This is what happened in this country back in the 1930's when there was The Great Depression. This has happened on the Democrats watch. They like to pull the Covid excuse to use when they are confronted with the problem.
It's hard to imagine how a blighted area like this recovers. If you open a business there, you will have no customers, and get broken-in every night. And California was once the Promised Land. The scary thing is, Californians are moving to other states, and as they go, they will spread the blight with them like New Yorkers, who have now ruined Florida. If Texas goes, then the country is finished.
Thank you Leo !

Don't forget the online retailers
Don't know about Richmond, but Oakland & Berkeley are also driving away business by making it near impossible for people to park where businesses are.
Exorbitant parking rates don't help encourage folks to come, either.

In China!

I grew up in that area. Used to go to JJ Newburys and Mervyns. Played baseball at Davis Park. Spent plenty of time at "Home of the 10 dollar tire".
Moved to Idaho to escape the coming zombie horde.
That whole shopping center was vibrant back in the day. I miss it. I think it's all townhouses now 😢
Is the Hilltop mall still a thing?
@mdemartile Nope. It's gone unfortunately.
Do you think this is America 👿 anymore with the borders wide open I'm beginning to wonder sadly 😢😢
Agree. Drove down PCH through Long Beach. Lots of closed up shops.
Walmart had these robotic floor sweepers during COVID. I deliberately tried to get run over by these machines just to see how "perfect" they are. I was surprised they stopped every time I did it. They did a lousy job sweeping.
There are replacing workers with machines to save money
Another great video, Leo! Looks like the only business doing well in Richmond would be one selling and installing chain link fencing (and maybe, plywood!)
Absolutely ,somebody has to make money 💰
National Rent a Fence is BOOMING!
Great leadership from the Governor!
“You have a question? TABLETS”

Looking like Oakland.😮
Looks like you were near the Del Norte Bart station and headed south on San Pablo, towards El Cerrito and Albany. 🤷♂️ I can't imagine Richmond being better though. I'd be interested if you headed north from where you started instead and then maybe headed west on MacDonald Ave. 🤷♂️
Sad to see how things look back home. I've been gone a couple decades now. Thanks for showing us.
Wow ! Just Wow! I used to build houses in Richmond too! That place was happening a few years ago! SHAMEFUL! Vote RED in California! Let's get this place cleaned up!🙏
Haven't you watch videos of texas, alabama, georgia, moron?
I was born and raised in Richmond and it has always been a very unsafe place to live. As a teenager I walked Sab Pablo Ave from San Pablo to Oakland, and it was never that bad.
But yellen said our economy is robust and we can support 2 war at once.
You went into El Cerrito and Albany in this video. Both of those cities have much different dynamics than Richmond.
O'Bidenomics In Action. 👊🇺🇸Trump 2024🇺🇸👊
Agreed
Working out exactly as planned. Break the US, then communism.
This guy is a liar, an idiot, or BOTH?
Lets go over your deceptive video, shall we ;-)
I'm not familiar with the Ashbot building.....but what you show in your video looks EXACTLY like the old Orchard Supply. It's the only building with that color scheme. that close to the freeway, and in a brief glance to the left of it you can see the strip mall. It also has obvious signage saying, Public Storage Coming Soon.
Indus Food Center I'm not familiar with....but Google says it's TWO TOWNS over in Berkeley....prolly why I don't know of it.
Jackson Hewitt....See that HUGE BRAND NEW condo complex to the left of it? Guess what's going in where this building is?
NEK insurance your actually correct about. How you make the oddly shaped, tiny corner building look so big, I really don't have a clue.
Orchard Supply. How did you manage to video it and not get any of the signs that say "Public Storage Coming Soon?
Trevinos didn't survive COVID, like many restaurants around the country and world.
Little Angies and the business next door has been closed for some 10 years. The entire building is only 3k sq. ft. The owner doesn't want to see as property along San Pablo is going for TOP dollar (did you happen to notice ALL the new 5 story condos/apartments with retail space on the ground floor?)
10262 San Pablo, been close forever.
Past Time Hardware. FULLY open and selling MORE hardware than the Home Depot down the street. Rather irrelevant though as it's in the next cite over (El Cerrito). Front windows have been boarded up since George Floyd.
Gold Center....AGAIN, NOT in Richmond. TWO towns over in Albany
Next business, ALSO in Albany
Your HUGE bar and restaurant is actually the bowling alley. IN ABANY. Unfortunately it didn't survive COVID. And being 2 or 3 blocks from the police station, I assure you, if the alarm goes off the cop will be there in seconds.
Xin Change Tech . Also in Albany
Galvin Appliance move up the road to a larger building. They just couldn't handle the volume of business in that location. ALSO, its in ALBANY, NOT Richmond
I don't know where that theater is, but the address next to it, 1113, is DEFINELTY not in Richmond. Google puts it in Albany. DUDE! The sign even says, Albany
Subway is in Albany
Restaurant. The address (1200) can not possibly be on San Pablo in Richmond
Next building, next to Tokyo Fish market is TWO cities over in Berkeley
Next I don't know and there`s no identifying images in your video. WAIT! San Pablo European, the business next door....IS IN BERKELEY, 2 cities over.
Next one (1511) the street address is NOT in Richmond
Next, also in Berkeley
Elm. No idea, sorry
Next 1475 San Pablo....Berkeley
Next is a BRAND NEW 5 story condo/apartment with ground floor retail. Haven't had time to rent them out yet. And it's in Berkeley
Same as the last....even says BERKELEY on the window.
Next....NOT Richmond again....I pretty sure it's Berkeley as they're the only city with brown street name signs. Funny, this is the same building you showed as the 3 one at the start of your garbage video.
Indus Foods. That was your 2nd building at the start of this bull....in Berkeley. And the restaurant next to it, guess what? It's OPEN!
Next, Berkeley again.
Midas- BERKELEY
Next I'm not familiar with. But the street address is NOT Richmond. Oops, Google says its Berkeley
Missouri Lounge is a bar located at 2600 San Pablo Ave. in Berkeley, CA
Next is also 2 cities over in Berkeley Berkeley Berkeley Berkeley
what about "Operation warp speed" and shutting down the economy? Trump has Americans absolutely fooled.
@@RickStorni 2 REPLIES
San Pablo street is huge it starts from Oakland and ends in Richmond.
Where they going to get the spray paint?
Bidness is a boomin for the chain link fence rental industry.
I can tell you whose still in business....fencing and security gate companies ! LOL!
Coffin builders and crematoriums are busier too
Good point.
Like, commented and shared. Thank you for all your videos. You show a different story then the politicians and the news
People won't wake up to the gravity of the situation we're in until it's much too late
Agreed. Like the movie Greenland. No one pays attention until it's happening to them. They shut all the doors on everyone else by universal law someone must shut the door on them. All the warnings are there but no one listens. Just like the movie Greenland. They are given everything but when SHTF they scream where is everyone to lead us as they didn't want anyone to lead them until the SHTF. It's unfortunate just like Noah they don't listen even though every sign is there. Covid was a world wide event LITERALLY STOPPED THE ENTIRE PLANET and they still don't listen. Stay safe out there! This might be big but God's bigger.
Your comedy is infectious especially the Mexixan Cali accent. I had a plumber once from South LA here in Dallas. His name was Nacho. He talked just like you, slow and deliberate, then chuckled
I would expect this in Venezuela but not in America.
Even the few stores that are still open are half staffed
There must be people living up stairs on those closed shops
Lived in Point Richmond in the seventies. What does it look like now? Thanks!
If ANY of those businesses were safely turning a profit, they'd be open. They are neither safe nor profitable.
That's the point of this video
Many were probably money laundering fronts.
Thank you, Captain Obvious
That insurance company was in El Cerrito
Look at all that lost tax revenue they would have gotten from all those closed business’s. This is insane.
Better reporting than any Bay Area TV news station or the Chronicle.
No, no, no… you don’t understand, this is progress! Smile and enjoy the progress.
It might be that almost all the business has moved or is moving to other states because this has been a result of the liberal policy of commeyfornia
Thanks!
@garyworthington840 good to see you my friend and thank you for coming through for the channel one more time over and over again you have showed your support. Thank you and have a great day.
Check out down town Martinez.
Will do. Thank you for the tip.
I appreciate your videos because they tell the truth of what is being done to our country. God have mercy on our land.
Pastime was a great hardware store. The tech shop was caspers hotdogs and one of the closed theaters was guitar center. Travinos, another lost ikon, so sad.
I miss the guitar Center 🎸

I had a small business in Richmond in the early 80s, and I actually liked it, though there were some problems with security at night. At the time the industry there was doing well - it felt like things were getting better... I'm sorry to hear
this....
You should have gone to the mall to walk around (if it still exists). I have not been to that mall since BC and it was half dead then. I can only imagine what it looks like now. The only thing that was in that mall that was keeping it somewhat alive was a WalMart. I would have loved to see what it looks like now, but not enough to actually go there and see it myself.
Hilltop mall is closed.
Long gone, only Walmart there. The one time I went there (closed) Amazon staged their fleet there.
@@jennychavez2436
Oh OK, too bad but not unexpected. It used to be pretty nice back in the day. It ended up just like everything else in Richmond -- Closed!
@@colin1657
Well, i would say that is par for the course that Amazon is using the mall for their purposes because they are likely part of the reason for the mall's demise. It is likely not the main reason though. The main reason this mall and all these other businesses died there is because the local demographic is not Conducive to a successful economy.
Another outstanding video, Leo!! Keep giving us the truth. It bears witness of itself.
Thank you for your support!
Richmond, CA. The place where Henry Kaiser established his fortune. Brought in refineries, shipping and ship building.
Crime has always been a product of Richmond. Google Richmond and the 1960’s events. You may be surprised. Especially near where it meets the City of San Pablo, and the Oakland CA connection.
The '60's! Took prayer out of schools. DRUGS flood the nation. Movies go even more violent. Music goes faster & harder than ever. Porn becomes more mainstream.
The 1st 4 minutes or so you were in El Cerrito. Trevinos has been closed since 2017. Little Angies has been closed since 2010.
Thank you for taking the time to write a thoughtful comment--a rare treat these days.
Sounds like you are asking for "smart cities" which is exactly what the Soros crowd wants.
Hilltop mall is one I missed the most
Hah lol…defund more police…zero bail!
My first apartment was in Richmond... right in front off the last Bart stop
I saw that bart station when I was recording the first clips, thank you for sharing
California is going downhill fast. Yet when the people there had an opportunity to recall the governor largely responsible for the decline,
they voted overwhelmingly to keep him in office. Not much sympathy for those folks, though I do feel sorry for honest, hardworking Californians.
Thank Newsome and his policies.
You are doing a great job. DeSantis should have brought you on stage during the debate.
