I just changed an oil pump on my dads 2016 Chrysler T&C 3.6l and your videos made it so simple. Also the new pump does not have holes for the pump drive gear cover bolts. According to the dealer the shield is no longer used or needed. Thank you for these videos.
Yeah it seems to be a design change over time once they realized it was needed. Less parts means less money. Glad it went well and that it worked out in the end. Thanks for letting me know how it turned out David. Make sure to subscribe.
Well done. Exceptional instructional video for this job. Laying on the ground underneath a 2015 Promaster... The two covered bolts are a little tricky, especially the one on the solenoid side. Good thing is they are not bolted very tight so it doesn't take too much bite to get them spinning. Another tip: if you remove the old solenoid it gives you some extra space to get at that inside bolt. I am seriously unimpressed with the durability of this motor. 125,000 miles. I just replaced the rockers and the right bank intake cam, doing the oil pump now and just noticed a small coolant escape building at the base of the water pump. I conclude that the two stage oil pressure is an engineering fault. At low RPM's, especially at idle, the rockers and cams are getting inferior lubrication. I use synthetic oil and change it every 5,000 miles or earlier and still got these problems. Taking a chance and replacing the OEM pump with a Melling. Hopefully get more oil up top at the low-end pressure stage. Thanks for taking the time to make this video.
This past weekend I just replaced the oil pump and solenoid on my 16 Pentastar motor. You can do this with just removing the lower oil pan. Its a lil tricky but you can due to oil pickup bolt to engine and oil pump. Took me about 4 hours.
Hi there..I used this trick long time ago some time I used a small magnet and around it with a taped..however always you teach us something new....thank you so much and have a good day.........👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Very nice David. I have the fuel 3/8 and the lighter non fuel 3/8. Want to get the non fuel 1/4 for really tight stuff. The 12 volt Milwaukee stuff is so light and quick. Looking forward to some videos where u really tear it up. Like the PT series. And the cylinder head change. I like to go back and watch your old stuff too. It is very instructive. Noticed u used a wobbly 1/4 extension too.
Thanks Bill for checking out all the videos....new and old. Milwaukee Tools will be releasing a more compact 1/4 M12 this year that has more power and lets you get into tighter spaces as well.
Great video and very well presented.. i would only add maybe adding a little bit of oil into the new pump so it won't be dry on startup.. don't know if new pump comes with lube but can't hurt.. anyway thumbs up to you sir
Masking tape also works to hold bolts in a socket, plus it doesn't fall out every time so it can be used to start multiple bolts. Use it in a similar fashion as shown with the paper here. Just drape it over the lip of the socket and let it stick to the outside of the socket. Duct tape works too. I've even taped a bolt to the tip of my finger in order to reach a blind hole. There are all sorts of tricks. Really thick grease can hold screws on an Apex tip.
Thanks for all your help!!! I have P06DE code on my 2015 Chrysler town and country. My local dealer claims they went through everything and the only other option is the oil pump replacement. Well they wanted $1650 to replace the pump. I replaced it myself and the code came back 48 hours after the pump was replaced. I have always done regular oil changes and used 5w20 synthetic. I dont know what to do about it at this point. Any ideas???
I have the same code with a 2015 Durango. It seems the pump is stuck on high pressure but the pressure will intermittently drop to the normal pressure then jump back up to high pressure. Did you happen to recently replace the oil filter housing? The Durango I bought had just had the oil filter housing replaced and I'm wondering if the pressure sensor is somehow causing this issue. They used an aftermarket housing in the repair. I'm wondering if this code even needs to be addressed? Other than a little drop in fuel economy due to the pressure running high, are there any other side effects to having high oil pressure? Does it overheat the oil or work the oil too much shortening it's life span? I don't know for certain. Replacing the oil pump in a Durango is no easy task. The front axle and steering rack all live directly below the oil pan and would all have to be removed to do this job......and I'm a mechanic and am not wanting to dive into this if I don't have to.
I Did my oil pump with the help of these videos and the tech manual a couple weeks ago. No more code coming from the solenoid. Only thing I’m noticing the last few days is the engine seems to be chattering noticeably louder at idle now. Trying to figure out if changing oil pump is somehow related.
Got a 2011 Grand caravan 3.6 and need to change out the pressure power steering line. I cannot seem to get to the hose on the pump side. Any insights? Or things I should try removing to get access? Love the videos and have been a great help already :) Thanks!
I havent had to replace one yet so not sure all thats required to get to it. I can email you the service info if you like....doesnt mention how to get to things, just whats needs to come off. Just let me know if its the pressure hose or the return hose. Email me at david@motorcitymechanic.com
Got it done - Thanks for the help! Crows foot and a universal joint made it all work. Took out the intake to make room for the right arm but man it sure was tight!
I bet it was....I had to remove the right side catalytic converter on the same engine but in an AWD Cherokee.....almost not space. Thanks for the update and for watching.
Question on the torque of the oil pump gear......is there a recess behind the gear that you could put a too into to help hold the gear during torque, rather than relying on the chain?
They are the typical local auto parts store. I typically dont use them at work because it gets so hot here in the south that during the summer they fill up with sweat. I mainly use them for filming. They hold up okay. Thanks for watching and for the question Brian!
Sorry for this out of no where question...is there a way to reset the TCM adaptives on the 2015+ charger rt , scatpaks etc ..is there a fuse or have to pull battery terminal..on forumz there no clear answer some say pull fuse #31 wich is labled pcm some same the battery tric and some say key on hold pedal down for 20sec then key and start the car.. Daily drivin my car i noticed the transmission shift change and lagg a bit, since i,do highwave driving... Is there a way or its dealer related? Any information would be appreciated thank you.
The only way to do that is with a high end scanner such as what the dealer has. The is not other method such as a fuse to pull that will reset it. Thanks for asking and for watching.
Hard to say....we have been replacing the assembly that comes with both. Chrysler doesnt sell that solenoid separately but I have heard there are some on the aftermarket.
I had P06DD and my oil preasure was stuck in low. I took the risk and assessed that the solonoid was stuck/failed. Replaced it following most of directions here using a Dorman part. It now switches to high preasure and codes has not come back.
Please, please help me @motorcitymechanic im trying to do a head gasket repair on my chrysler sebring touring 2009 2.4l tigershark, world class engine. I need torque specs and bolt pattern for the camshafts, timing chain, motor mount, and catalytic converter. I dont have programs to find the specs autozone doesnt have them in a repair guide and the chrysler dealerships out here in seattle are very sketchy i asked them and they insisted they do the work so they wouldnt give me the specs. Car has the same engine in the dodge avenger and chrysler 200. I have the EDG engine if thats relevant to the repair. I know they have ED3 and EDG.
Evening....well actually morning here on the east coast. I can’t attach that info here also no with pics as well. Email me at david@motorcitymechanic.com
Again,......any Loctite on the gear cover bolts? If those fell off it would be like throwing a monkey wrench into the proverbial machinery. Just asking.
You may be the most satisfying mechanic on UA-cam. Almost an ASMR quality. Thank you.

Much appreciated for always watching and for the support!
Good job John Louisiana
Much appreciated!
I have to say you explain things thoroughly
A very detailed and clear video. Thanks Dave, always a pleasure to stop by.
Great help from you working on my son challenger👍👍

Great video david you rock bro keep up the great content
Thanks Antonio!
Very helpful. Thank you!
That cordless ratchet is nice
Its a life saver and money maker! Something that I recommend every mechanic have.
MotorCity Mechanic didnt see is that a Milwaukee or a snap on battery operated ratchet
Its the Milwaukee Tools version. Great tool!
MotorCity Mechanic nice

Always great meticulous videos.
great videos thank you
With this series does the engine need to be TDC ? Or can just go at it and hold the chain with a ziptie ?

Question on the torque of the oil pump gear......is there a recess behind the gear that you could put a too into to help hold the gear during torque, rather than relying on the chain?
where do you get the gloves for this work, mine always tear and fingers come through

Is the oil pump gear bolt installed with Loctite of any kind? That kind of location makes me think that factory specs might call for Loctite.
Do you have one like this for a charger 2013
Is this replacement the fix for the intermittent P06DD code? I have already replaced the oil cooler on the top that includes the oil pressure switch.
My question is I want to replace just that oil pump solenoid can I do that with the pump still in?
That’s the question I’m trying to answer.
Awesome

How would i know if the pump needs replacement
is it the solenoid or pump itself failing.
Hard to say....we have been replacing the assembly that comes with both. Chrysler doesnt sell that solenoid separately but I have heard there are some on the aftermarket.

its amazing that these oil pumps are already failing.
They are complex in design so that might have an affect on it.
What the size of these bolts
How can i contact you

MotorCity Mechanic hey david, did you ever get my email?
I gave some one info on the head bolt specs and torque pattern....was that you?
Whoa
