Probably also don’t want people dying of carbon monoxide poison if they decide to run their engines in an enclosed area. Awesome video. Deck camping looks cool.
Unfortunately, the state has been cutting ferry routes and staff for years at this point. There used to be at least twice a week ferries north in the summer. I live in Ketchikan and spent my youth doing activities across southeast. I've ridden that ferry about 10 times. Our most common route though was to drive to Prince Rupert, BC and take a six hour ferry ride to Ketchikan.
Such a bummer. We met quite a few people onboard who said the ferry used to run all the time, so they'd hop off for a few days here and there and just catch the next one. Now, you'd be stranded for at least a week if you got off :/
Welcome to my part of the planet! I am retired now but worked for the British Columbia Ferries for 25 years and have visited all of the ports of call you will be making and so many more. I am confident you two will be blown away by the sights and sounds. Best wishes for a fantastic journey.
When you've booked a 'room with a view,' but chance decides to give you the entire oceanfront suite instead. It's like a floating campsite where starry nights come with a gentle lullaby of engine vibrations. Glad you turned this into an interesting experience. I mean, you're may not be camping, but you're 'maritime glamping!' I've done few unconventional accommodations for our TV show so two thumbs for you guys!
Well I was not expecting to see you setting up a tent on the deck of a ship! Your both always so positive, even in the most sketchy situations! ☺ Hope you both made it OK and did not end up flying off into the ocean! 🥶
Hahaha, we did not expect it either! In fact, when we realized there weren't any cabins left, we actually called the ferry company because we didn't believe that tent camping was the only other option 🤣
I did that trip for my 40th Bday, sleeping out on a deck chair. I was vastly under prepared for the temp at night with too thin a sleeping bag. It was a fantastic adventure with a very interesting, fun group of fellow deck campers going to Alaska for all different reasons. Hope you made some friends.
We moved to Sitka on the Columbia in 1994. We had a pre schooler and jr high kid, 3 cats, 2 cars and a corgi. We did have a cabin, but over the next decade to numerous trips on the Alaska Marine Highway and slept in the Solarium many, many nights. 10 years later we left Sitka on the Kennicutt and drove across Canada with one kid, the same 3 cats, corgi, but only one Subaru, to our new home in Vermont.
Whoa! That's quite a group you had in tow. Y'all are Marine Highway experts at this point! Glad you seem to have only good memories of your adventures onboard 🙌
I was bunking in a chair behind you in the solarium! I had the best time on the ferry, it was nice to meet you! Looking forward to seeing the rest of your adventures.
What a great adventure you are on! I was just getting ready to congratulate you for not saying "frickin" during the whole video and then Allison says it at dinner and Eric said it at the end! You sound so much more intelligent when you leave it out!!!
Reminds me of sleeping on the deck for an overnight ferry to Corfu from Italy back in the day - no tents, no sleeping bag just lots of people and lots of fun?!
Thats what I was thinking, must be partly cause of the car lift system & ferry smaller than Channel Ferries but much longer journey can you imagine them letting tents on those no chance!
Love traveling up by ferry. Boarding the ferry is about weight and balance with vehicles, not disorientation. Also the reason two vehicles are more economical then your RV and car connected.
Hi Eric and Allison I freaking love how y'all are on the ship sailing to our 2nd most Favorite state in the USA Alaska what a blast can't wait to see what's next
There was a time when I frequently ferried back and forth to Sardinia from the Italian mainland. Slept on deck (no tents), in hallways, lounges, etc. with my sleeping bag with a less than luxurious inflatable mattress. Even tried the rooms a couple of times. In season, the decks are fine. The hallways were ok when it got a bit cooler. In Winter, I would book a room - more availability and a little cheaper. The droning of the engines was constant. Earplugs were a necessity for sleeping. You can't sleep late in a room. Bang, bang, bang on the door early and intercom music blaring to wake you up. I actually slept better on deck.
I have been watching your channel for a long time now and enjoy it. Thanks for not putting in any dings in this video. It always scares our dog and she always leaves the room in fear. Thanks Again!
Getting Clementine and Ruby to Alaska on a ferry seems like the easy part. Driving the dynamic duo around Alaska seems like tempting fate. I hope your travels go well. Of course, one way or the other, I'm sure there will be entertaining videos.😉
Oh ya...we're pretty scared about all the mountains (and potential snow on those mountains!) plus being out on pretty remote stretches of highway... 😅 but we're hoping since it's September and we have our little Ruby to get us out of jams that we'll be okay? 🤞🤞
We used the marine ferry when we visited in Aug. 21. We rode it from Ketchikan to Juno to Skagway to Haines. It was great, we got a cabin for the overnight to Juno.
Wow! I have lived in Seattle for decades and feel like a ferry pro, but I never knew there was a ferry you could camp on with your tent! That is crazy! You guys always have the best experiences!!
Welcome to Washington. I hope you take some time to explore the state more, especially east of the Cascades. Come to the Yakima Valley, visit the Columbia Basin, too many places to list. Went on an Alaska cruise this year. Second time. We thought it would be cool to take the RV up there and spend a couple weeks seeing things you don’t have time to on a cruise. Much to our horror, the price to load up the RV and book a cabin on board, so as to not sleep in a tent on the fantail of the ferry, was twice the cost of the cruise, and that didn’t include food; you have to buy that a la carte on board. We’ll add this to our bucket list.
So cool - didn't realize you can take a "ferry" from Washington to Alaska ! @2:33 No state room ! @3:27 ". . .three days and seven hours . . . " And , no state room . @8:56 3 hrs to wait for Eric in Clementine . That's a long wait !!! @15:00 the dining room and food looked pretty good and probably expensive, but why not for a once in a life time trip ! Hopefully the cooler weather is a welcomed reprieve over hot and humid or just hot !
I remember in 1995 traveling with ferry between France and England by night. I had to sleep on the floor and it was cold. There was also a storm and ferry was rocking. I hated it so much. And end of it I got a flu. Worst trip ever. 😊Even thinking about doing the same thing you are doing I would say no. I could never do 3 day trip like you do. Good luck to you and I hope you get to safely to Alaska.👍🙂
That sounds much worse than our tent camping experience - sorry you had such a terrible time! Glad ship camping is a very distant memory for you and a slightly distant memory for us 🤣
You have outdone yourselves. Thank you for always keeping it real and entertaining. Wishing you a wonderful adventure in Alaska. Can't wait for next week's video.
Tent sleeping on the ship's deck! You guys are having quite an adventure! I was glad to see you tied it to the rail! I worried the tent would fly away! 🙂
In 2013 I purchased an exotic sports and had it delivered to Salt lake City. In no way did I ever think of driving the car to Anchorage. I spent a month touring the northwest and arrived in Bellingham two days before sailing. I had also purchased a cabin with full bathroom at a reasonable price so all I needed was to buy some prepared food for the trip, but the meals on board are excellent. Camping on the sun deck is an experience, but if you can sleep in a recliner, the main lounge has plenty of room. It was a blast of a trip. We stopped in Ketchikan, a couple of other places , and Juneau where we switched ships to one of the ocean going ferries. Made one last stop in Yakutat. Plenty of glacier and wildlife viewing along the way. By the way - you do NOT arrive in Anchorage. The ship docks in Whittier about an hour and a half south of ANC and you will drive through a long tunnel and then have a beautiful drive along Turnagain Arm to ANC. One last comment - when I arrived at the loading dock in Bellingham I spoke to the bosun about my new, expensive car and could he find a safe place for the car where it was not likely to be bumped or dinged by other vehicles. He put me in an isolated spot at the bow - safe and sound. Many thanks to the Captain and Crew.
What an exciting adventure, Something I would love to do. Just make sure when you're in alaska that you take the road from glen allen to valdez right through the pass through the Chucatche mountains because it is one of the most beautiful drives in the world, No exaggeration.
This confirms once again that America is big. I saw the two of you traveling for the first time today, and I can relate to a lot of the parts, perhaps because I also travel in a motorhome with my wife here in Korea. I support you two on your journey. Always drive safely
I'd be quite happy if those were my sleeping arrangements. You've found a good spot, albeit a windy one. The engine noise will become comforting once you get used to it. Clementine is doing fine, she just needs a transmission oil cooler fitting, that should sort out your hill-climbing dilemma with Ruby on the back. Looking forward to the rest of your voyage. Good luck.
These kids never disappoint. On the ferries I've been on, access to the upper levels is via ramps, like on a multi-storey car park. Never seen one of those lift contraptions.
Diane from Bermuda here again. Try to stop in Talkeetna if you have time, we had a family reunion there in 2018. It’s a quirky, eclectic little town with awesome food and the nicest people. I can’t wait to follow your Alaskan adventures.
if you ever find yourselves wanting to get a captains hat in the future, try West Marine. That's where I got mine and they have locations all over the U.S.
I thought I knew what was happening until........I saw the playmate pose in the tent! I can't un-see it now! You just can't take the "camp" out of campers!
The signals from those radios you used can sometimes break into nearby am/fm radios that people may be listening to in their cars, or other locations, so that your conversation is easily audible to them, so make sure you aren't saying anything too personal when using them.
Thanks both again for the best vlogs, hope your mum is doing ok Erik. Been watching you since you left your apartment in SF, it has helped me enjoy retirement 👍
Oh wow! You've been with us for quite a while! Luckily Eric's mom is hanging in there. She has her good and bad days, but we're all just very thankful to have so much extra time with her ❤️ Hope retirement's treating you well!
Now there an other experience to add to your list Sleep on deck of a Ferry going towards Alaska 😜💕 🤞🤞You managed to sleep a bit 😊 Looking forward to to your next video safe journey 🥰
Wow! cool video! Glad I can ride with you two on the ferry to Alaska.🛳 The ferry is much better than driving the "ALCAN" highway up to Alaska. I hate all the horse flies🦟🦟🦟🦟 on the highway. Can't wait for more amazing videos onboard and in Alaska. Love the channel! You two are the cutest couple 💑 on UA-cam. Cheers 🍺🍺🍺🍺👨✈
You are bringing back such amazing memories to me.Alaska is a amazing place and I was lucky to work up there for 17 summers. I hope you get to Denali later.
What a unique trip! Had no idea you could camp like that on a boat. Don't think I'd like it haha but youse made it look fun. Been watching since you both visited Scotland for the Cowal Games, that's where I'm from. Always love your videos 🎉🎉🎉
We liked our first trip on the Alaska Marine Highway so much that we did it again. The first time, with our fifth wheel, the second time we flew to Bellingham and waited till in Alaska to rent a Class C RV. The first time we waited too late to get a tiny "state room" and slept in the open to the rear but heated atrium, so the second time, we chose that. We slept in sleeping bags on the comfortable reclining deck chairs. We spent two days in Juno before going on to Haines and up to Fairbanks. While I have not done a cruise, this was so much fun, and being able to get off then back on a later boat was great for seeing all we wanted to see of Alaska. We spent a month there each time, once in June, the second time in August.
We think we saw Ruby in Anchorage this morning. If you can stop in to Wild Scoops for the best ice cream in Alaska!!!! We stop there whenever we go to Anchorage!
We didn’t know about the ferry or tent camping on deck. It seems like it is the perfect solution for you. Can wait to hear more about your adventures… ❤❤❤
It's not safe to sleep in your vehicle, but sleeping in a tent out on the deck is perfectly safe 😂 great video as always! This one was super fun!
😂😂😂😂
It's illegal to sleep in your vehicle - coast guard rules.
If the ship where to be going down, you rather be up on deck close to liferafts and what not than on the lowest car deck in an RV, right?
Probably also don’t want people dying of carbon monoxide poison if they decide to run their engines in an enclosed area.
Awesome video. Deck camping looks cool.
And because of fire safety.
Camping on a ferry deck! Can't wait to hear how that went. Very clever of you to get Clementine to Alaska via ferry! An adventure for sure!
It truly was! Not sure we'd do it again, but we're happy to have saved the miles 😅
Just drove our Sprinter to Alaska! We absolutely love it here ❤❤
Ok, y'all are insane, insanely brave and I'm here for it.
🤣🤣
This is SO much better than watching you guys renovate a run-down house. I can't wait for your next videos!!
I agree 💯%
Completely understand you protecting the front plate number, but it did make me smile as you kinda have a unique looking van and car 😂😂

what a fun job! BC is one of my favourite parts of the world

Who needs a luxury liner? -- sleeping on the deck looks like an adventure. & you're the Endless Adventure!
Well I was not expecting to see you setting up a tent on the deck of a ship! Your both always so positive, even in the most sketchy situations! ☺ Hope you both made it OK and did not end up flying off into the ocean! 🥶
I guess whenever they run into these kind of situations they can always say, well, at least it makes good content. haha
Hahaha, we did not expect it either! In fact, when we realized there weren't any cabins left, we actually called the ferry company because we didn't believe that tent camping was the only other option 🤣
What an interesting concept. Sleeping in a tent, on a boat, with your RV just a few steps away.
😂
I did that trip for my 40th Bday, sleeping out on a deck chair. I was vastly under prepared for the temp at night with too thin a sleeping bag. I can't wait to see the rest of your Alaska vlogs! I've been there twice so I can't wait to see how you feel about it.
Excited! this is a real adventure, a cruise, salmon for dinner, what else could you ask for?
Loved the tent on the boat deck ...I wouldn't have coped even half as well as you did. Thanks so much for sharing x
Safe travels to Alaska. Look forward to your amazing Alaskan videos 📹.
Good for you guys, not giving up on the old girl. If things didn't go right then go wrong, it wouldn't be an adventure.
Enjoy, but please, we want more than one video in a week. I can't wait that long for just one video😅 please please please❤ love your videos!!!!
I just love it when your videos come in! I look forward to them. Hope you’re doing well.
Oh my…..that loading took so long!! Our cross-Chanel ferries, here in the U.K., are light speed comparatively 😂😂🧡💚
Thats what I was thinking, must be partly cause of the car lift system & ferry smaller than Channel Ferries but much longer journey can you imagine them letting tents on those no chance!
@@SolarVibeEnergy - oh crickey….don’t get me started on the tent situation 😂😂😂. That’s so unsafe and why isn’t the ferry fit for purpose? Crazy!
Love traveling up by ferry. Boarding the ferry is about weight and balance with vehicles, not disorientation. Also the reason two vehicles are more economical then your RV and car connected.
Thank you for showing the RV and car being shipped to Alaska.
Hi Eric and Allison I freaking love how y'all are on the ship sailing to our 2nd most Favorite state in the USA Alaska what a blast can't wait to see what's next

God I love you guys.!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

We used the marine ferry when we visited in Aug. 21. We rode it from Ketchikan to Juno to Skagway to Haines. It was great, we got a cabin for the overnight to Juno.
You are cruising the inside passage, beautiful scenery! Enjoy!

Right? We couldn't believe it! Such a wild experience 😅
This is amazing. I'm surprised you are actually doing this. This could end up being your best series!! Congratulations!! 👍🏻👍🏻❤🇺🇸🙏🏻
Thanks! We're so excited to see Alaska before the snow and dark sets in 😍

From an Alaskan… Surprisingly, the food on the ferries is pretty reasonably priced
I am 100% invested in this trip to Alaska!
If yall meet up with Simple Living Alaska... I will LOSE my darn mind! OMG!!! Be safe!!!
I am to old to do the adventures you guys do so thank you for sharing everything with us, love it!!
"Camping on a ferry" sounds like fun. My kids would love doing this.
It’s unfortunate you missed traveling through some of the most gorgeous scenery in Canada 🇨🇦
I remember in 1995 traveling with ferry between France and England by night. I had to sleep on the floor and it was cold. There was also a storm and ferry was rocking. I hated it so much. I think the pro tip for tent camping on the deck of that boat… magnet anchors for your tent.
Great video..hope you enjoy the ferry and have a fantastic trip in Alaska...looking forward to your future videos...what an adventure🙂
Excited to see your next show, have safe travels ya'all!!!
You have outdone yourselves. Thank you for always keeping it real and entertaining. Wishing you a wonderful adventure in Alaska. Can't wait for next week's video.
I can’t wait for chapter 2 of this book!!! Wow!
Tent sleeping on the ship's deck! You guys are having quite an adventure! I was glad to see you tied it to the rail! I worried the tent would fly away! 🙂
I've never thought much about making a "bucket list" but I just added tenting on a ferry to mine!
Very cool! Love the tent camping on deck! Cant wait to see Alaska!
Now this is exciting I can not wait for the next one be safe have fun!
I hope you make it all the way to Anchorage!! I moved to AK almost 3 years ago now, and it has been the best adventure i have ever done!!!
Thanks! Safe travels to you two, as well!
The way you persist through the trials that come your way is admirable. I’m glad you’re on the boat!
Oh my GAWD.... I can't believe it. My husband and I did this 30 years ago. We slept in a lounge chair. I can't wait to see the rest of the trip!
No way! You guys definitely did it right...the tent was not the way to go. At least not for us 😅
Wow what an adventure. I’ve never seen tents on a boat before.
Best adventure yet! What a kick! I've never heard of such a thing as cruise ship camping!
Eric's face @3:55 made my day 🤣
great start to an awesome adventure can't wait
Drive to Valdez was my fav in all of Alaska!! Definitely dont miss that.
Loved this chaotic vlog! ❤️
Us either! And we couldn't believe that you drive yourself onto the lift and ride it up. It was a wild experience from the start! 🤣
Diane from Bermuda here again. Try to stop in Talkeetna if you have time, we had a family reunion there in 2018. It’s a quirky, eclectic little town with awesome food and the nicest people. I can’t wait to follow your Alaskan adventures.
Last on first off, always a bright side
So exciting to be taken along on your endless journey.❤️❤️😃😃🙏🙏👍🏽👍🏽
nice to see you in the neck of my woods.
Great to hear that this ferry service is still active.
Good to see my favorite UA-cam couple, luv from 🇨🇦🙂❤️
if you ever find yourselves wanting to get a captains hat in the future, try West Marine. That's where I got mine and they have locations all over the U.S.

Hope retirement's treating you well!
Priceless that they allow tenting on a boat hahaha amazing!
In case of the boat pulling a Titanic, I can see not allowing you to sleep in your rigs, but look at the adventure you're having! Awesome!
Have a great trip
Now there an other experience to add to your list Sleep on deck of a Ferry going towards Alaska 😜💕
🤞🤞You managed to sleep a bit 😊
Looking forward to to your next video safe journey 🥰
Wow!
This is the craziest thing I've ever seen 😆 I can't wait for the next video!
Oh yay! You guys are here by now I hope! We live on the military base in Anchorage. Hope to see you around!
What an amazing experience and adventure. That looks like so much fun. Take care. Loving your video's. 😊
You are bringing back such amazing memories to me.Alaska is a amazing place and I was lucky to work up there for 17 summers. I hope you get to Denali later.
WHAT A GREAT ADVENTURE ONE DAY ILL MAKE IT TO ALASKA

Can you tell me where you got your sleeping pad for the tent?
this is the exciting part of the trip for me! you guys getting there! stay warm.
Alrighty, it's happening. Excited.
We didn’t know about the ferry or tent camping on deck. It seems like it is the perfect solution for you. Can wait to hear more about your adventures… ❤❤❤
What an adventure already!
