Sailing Into a TYPHOON!? - Ferry Cruise from Alaska to Washington! 🌊 (Full Stateroom TOUR!)

  • Our RV is back on the ferry! This sailing was rough 😅 We got caught in a crazy storm that had the ship rocking and us miserable in our stateroom for 2 days. But it sure beats tent camping! The Alaska marine highway was still beautiful, but boy are we glad we don’t have to step foot on another ferry for the foreseeable future! 🤢

Green apples! The sour kind. As soon as you bite into it, nausea goes away. I can’t believe how it works! A crewmember on a cruise ship turned me onto it. But on the flipside, just don’t eat too many you’ll get sick from the apples!

It's good to hear Allison kept her insides on the inside, I rarely feel seasick but I was on an overnight ferry trip from Spain to the UK a few years ago in a storm. I was ok apart from one time when the boat briefly went up, down and side to side simultaneously, it was close but I managed to keep my insides intact 😄

Oh boy, glad you made it through! It's a wild feeling being thrown around by waves...and it's especially annoying when it's nighttime and you're panicking instead of sleeping. Glad you, your insides and the ferry made it through unscathed! 😅

Fun fact: When I was young our family lived in a house directly on a cliff overlooking the ocean one mile south of Deception Pass, Washington. When the Alaskan Ferry would sail past our location we used our telescope to watch people on the decks of the ferry as well as the wheelhouse.

You guys are doing great. It can’t be easy juggling keeping your channel going and supporting your family during difficult times. Life is unpredictable.
I retired from work a month ago, thinking to have a restful few weeks before getting down to some diy’ing, but my 90 year old father in law isn’t coping any longer, so we’ve been travelling a lot to see him. At least our travel distances in the UK aren’t anything like you have in the US. It still took us eight hours to get home last week though.

Great quality, amazing camera work, great content, and I find you guys really articulate as well (except when Allison forgets her words hehe). When I was a kid we took a small boat to a tropical island in Australia during a typhoon/hurricane/cyclone. It was rocking so much the windows alternated between complete sky or sea. We couldn't enjoy our time on the island too much as you couldn't snorkel and then everyone had to be evacuated by helicopter lol. It was so windy you almost walked sideways on the beach!

Dad was moving to Kodiak back in the mid 70s and we took the Tustumena up the inside passage in the winter. Me, my sister had chickenpox AND got sea sick. Mom had to deal with 2 sick kids and because dad never had chickenpox he could not be in the same cabin. He also got sea sick. Mom was on her own. I was 4, sister was 1.

A tip to avoid seasickness on rough seas is to actually have a visible line of sight to the horizon. Your eyes being able to "agree" with the rest of your senses when it comes to the movement does wonders for helping to stabilize your sense of balance. Looking out the window is actually a great thing to do, and the best option would have been if you can look at the horizon in the direction of travel down the bow.
When your senses of balance and motion don't agree with each other, the effect is exaggerated inside the body. The brain doesn't like it when one sense is saying "everything seems normal" but your others saying otherwise. The key senses here being located within a person's ankles(and/or lowest point of contact with the ground to a lesser extent), the fluid in the inner ear canal, and sight. There is a reason why dizziness is so much worse if you do the "lean over and go in circles" and you are blindfolded.

My truck makes a ticking sound when it gets cold. I am convinced it is the manifold gasket where the exhaust attaches to the engine. Mine has been making the ticking sound in the cold for a few years, you do not hear it when it is warm. One day I might get it replaced.

  • @brentpierce7585
    @brentpierce7585 10 місяців тому +1

I'm pretty sure you did an LS swap into clementine if you're getting a ticking from the engine first check and make sure it's not just an exhaust leak. The exhaust manifolds like to warp and most of the time the very back bolt on the driver's side will break. Also the gold color doorman brand exhaust manifold bolts like to come loose. Hopefully that's all it is! If not the bearings in the roller lifters go bad alot on the 5.3l and 6.0l unfortunately it's not like an old small block chevy where you can pull the intake manifold and access the lifters. On the LS design you have to pull off the cylinder heads to replace lifters.

The only way I stopped the nausea on an ocean crossing was WALKING the WHOLE way to my destination - from Melbourne, Victoria, Australia to Tasmania, Australia............

This brings back some memories. I was in the Navy in the 80’s, we came out of the shipyard and had bad weather for most of the sea trials. This would not have been such a bad thing except:
    A. It was a submarine
    B. We were stuck on the surface for 4 days.
Submarines are not designed to be on the surface for extended periods (round bottom, no stabilization). Most of the crew was sick since during normal operations the boat is underwater and doesn’t rock at all. I didn’t throw up, but I was miserable for the whole time.
