In 1972 I purchased a 1962 VW bus. I put a bed in the back and a reel-to-reel tape recorder, amp, large speakers and an inverter to plug into the cigarrette lighter.
Hey, Eric and Allison. You need to get your hot arses over to Italy and sort out the travel beans new house. You'd have it renovated in a week. You know it's gonna take them 10 years haha. Love them really
Ha! These two whippersnappers are in so much awe of a vehicle that I just see as an old van from my childhood! As a matter of fact, after I was born ,I was driven home from the hospital in a 1970 VW bus. Anyway, I love this installment of the Endless Adventure!
We had an old 1970 vw van that my dad converted for the five of us to camp in. Mom, dad and three kids. We did not have a pop top but dad made a hammock for my younger sister. My brother and I slept under the pull out seats. All our luggage went in the front seat when we slept. It didn’t ventilate well so it would rain condensation on us all night. Mostly on my sister and mom and dad. Sleeping under the seats had its advantages, except the sleeping bags still got wet. lol. Even though it was fairly new, it didn’t run very well. It broke down a lot. My sisters first husband had a vw van that barely ran. It was a putt putt for sure. Manual transmission too. The gear stick is long and spindly but pretty sturdy metal. Ours had a basic am radio but dad who was a techie guy installed a cassette player so we could listen to our music. Especially since am radio is notoriously wimpy to try to get a signal from out in the boonies where we camped. lol. Looking forward to more adventures in my old stomping grounds on Vancouver island which is one place our family camped
I haven't watched all of the video yet but am so happy you get to explore Vancouver Island. I grew up in BC and miss it so much. ETA- okay watched the whole video, I hope you get to Long Beach! You could spend a week there alone. Also Rathtrevor beach, so beautiful.
I miss the vlogs in which you flew around the world! But I wish you two would finish driving the USA, maybe do state parks. You're the best travel vloggers on the Tube.
Boy does that van take me right back in time. When I was a senior in high school and my boyfriend had a van like that only minus the pop top and it was tan. What memories of the good old days.
Omg a dash back in time ! I had one of those in the late 70’s for awhile traded it for another van with a corvair 6 cyl in it . Eventually I got tired of that andd got a dodge van that was far more reliable and comfortable
We have owned five VW buses, two of them have been camper buses and we have had a blast with our five kids with them over the years. Our oldest was a 1964 camper and our other one was a 1970 & we miss them very much.
Vancouver Island is my Home! Victoria born and raised and have lived here all of my life . Im so excited to see your adventures on the most Beautiful place on Earth .
We had a 1984 Vanagon Camper, coolest vehicle ever. Did you find out you have to wave when you see another one? (Harder to find nowadays) We always regretted selling it. It would still be worth more than we paid for it! HAHA One time we were going slightly uphill in a 80-100 mph wind gust and we stood still when we went to shift. They aren't known for their POWER.
I learned how to drive a stick Shift on my dad’s 1968 pop top and brings back a good old memories. We even grow that van all the way to Colorado and back to Washington with eight people in it five kids and three adults.
I love manual shift. About five years ago, I bought a used 2007 Mustand convertible....cherry red and gorgeous. Alas, it's the V6, but that doesn't bother me. It's still fun to drive. The only thing I really with it has is manual shift.
Sure demo-ing and restoring a little house is a pain in the butt, but damn! heh heh heh Mighty tight quarters for any lengthy trip! A night of too many beers and lots of gumbo or something spicy and the fog may get ya! Never done Vancouver Island, other than Victoria area. Used to ride the ferries and play cribbage as an escape from Seattle's busy life. Sometimes stay on the boat all day and just play cards and gab, or jump ship here and there and go stagger around. You driving it back to Texas? If you come thru my part of Eastern Washington I'll buy ya's dinner.
Welcome to our paradise…from beautiful Parksville. A great place for us retirees to enjoy a gorgeous ocean view and a temperate climate with little snow. Come see our world class beaches.
Hello Allison and Eric. My geography teacher had a much newer van like that in 1970s. He was Adrian Edmondson's dad. I did not get to the island, but I did need my sheepskin jacket in Vancouver. I tried to find my family there, but they moved up the BC coast when I was touring US. They called later when I had got back to UK.
🙂💙👍Thank You Eric and Allison Welcome to Canada Another Awesome Adventure🙂💙👍Watching from the East Coast of Canada !!!!!New Brunswick Canada!!!! Safe Travels.🙂💙👍
I like the idea of the nostalgia of the VW camper van, and even went to look at one some decades ago, however being more mature in age than I was back then, a toilet and shower would be a minimum requirement for me these days.
Do they make your bed? I used sleeping bags and zipped 2 together . In 1971 when I was 15, my neighbor with 16 kids bought a new VW bus like you have. Very good kid hauler. It was blue and white. Thanks for video.
Heat in a vintage V.W. ,surely you jest, ha,ha,ha! Ask anyone who had one. Try driving in first gear at full r.p.m’s for like forever and may be you’ll feel something by the time you reach your destination.
The heat drew air from around the exhaust manifolds. There were sheet metal covers called heater boxes. They would rust out and draw in cold air. Replace them and the heater actually worked pretty well. The camper vans actually has an optional gasoline powered heater that worked really well.
Would you consider doing a haunted house themed travel video for Halloween. Maybe do a stay in a corn field maze, it would be a new adventure that would be like no other.
Oh boy… you have a real rot box on your hands . Rebuilt lots of them. Bet front axle will never pass any kind of inspection. Good luck. Clutch will be your next purchase. On a high note it only takes 8 mins to pull the motor. 😂
I love your spontaneous trip. How amazing. 🙂 While retro is cool I am not sure an antique VW van would be for me. Where do you all go to the bathroom in the middle of the night???
Ohhh guys what's next??😅😅 I ❤it but never know what you two are going to bring with each video. Wishing you the best with Olive. You should add her to your videos for a while but she's too small for my liking. You are both tall but maybe you'll get used to it. Safe travels 🙏 ❤
One piece of crap to one piece of crap classic. Have fun. Quickly learn how to repair that VW engine on your own would be my biggest recommendation. Because its going to break. Guaranteed.

Welcome!!! I’m here in Nanaimo on Vancouver Island ❤
Rabbit stew? I think you mean "hasenpfeffer". Just another thing I learned from Looney Tunes. Episode was "Shishkabugs".
Welcome to my backyard!🇨🇦❤️
I'm just here for all the new intros you guys keep doing with different vehicles 😂
The way to go without speakers is to put your phone in a bowl and it amplifies the sound!
Thank you so much guys for choosing Island Rv Rentals.
Scott
I always look forward to these videos since the beginning that you started traveling from your little apartment I've been here
Me too ✋️
You guys have to watch the original 1962 version of Cape Fear. It's a lot better than the remake.

Those VW buses that are in good condition are going for a ton of money. what a cool place to go.

We had an orange VW pop top we called the Great Pumpkin when I was growing up!!
I don't remember that color but I do remember those vans memories
I need a VW Bus in my life so bad!
Welcome back to Canada! Some day you should hit the east coast, beautiful, cute, and fun
Being super claustrophobic, I could never stay in there!! Kudos to you..

That VW engine is on its way out. I know that sound. You now have to see the Robert Mitchum Gregory Peck version of Cape Fear.
Awesome video!
Welcome to the island. If I remember my Bugs Bunny you were eating Hasenpfeffer
I ❤this caravan

11:56. That's more of a pea green, not olive. But I guess they didn't want to call her Pee.
Joll oh see windows
My dream!
Come to our house near Langford. We’ll take you out for din-dins!!
Or we could eat in… what do you drink?
No real comment on the rabbit stew so I'm guessing it was not a hit 😂
I like eating Rabbit but it makes me Jumpy 😮😂
I assume that is air cooled. Looks like the standard 60 HP.
Omg 😮
The stew looked under cooked, that takes a few hours to be good.
Where did you get your sweater with the horse on the front? I want one 😍
did you guys come up thru Port Angeles? Thats where I'm at!
They are so expensive in the UK.
Did you really not learn the lesson from Clementine?
First. How sad am I?😂

Thought you were building a house.
Ugh I was wrong it’s a sideways clam top ugh
Do you guys prerecord your videos a week in advance
More than a week.
Giving up with the build in Texas ???

Clutch is gone. Thing is a pile. I'd sleep outside.

NOT IMPRESSED .YOUR GOING BACKWARDS.
I get that you need hyperbole to get the clicks, but outright lying in your title?? C’mon, you are better than that!
Nice vlog. 👍👍
