I made a floating one last year with a $15 1.5v solar panel from harbor freight connected to some copper pieces. It worked amazing cut my chlorine by I'd guess 80%. I just made v2.0 for this year with a $30 panel that is 7v. This is more pieces than mine but same idea. I really think this works, also I don't have salt in my pool
@@vabeachjuggalo3 Hi, my pool is a saltwater system so of course I use salt , the copper Ioniser and to keep my Ph down I occasionally have to use pH reducer (acid).. Cheers 👍
Hi, yes silver is a good anti bacterial metal, but it is more expensive, only one of the electrodes is giving off copper and degrading, I think this is why on commercial products you see copper and a silver (stainless steel) electrode, the stainless doesn't degrade only the copper, what I do now to even things up is every day I change the polarity so both electrodes are used up equally.. 👍
Hi and thank you for the reply, I was going to do an update after a month , but I have to say it is working really well. Before using this device I was adding chlorine every 5 days even though I have a chlorinator system . Since using this system I have not added additional chlorine , the algea that was present has now gone and the pool seems cleaner, the chlorine levels are increasing, I suppose the copper is giving the chlorine a helping hand. But yes a big difference , I will do a video after 1 month ... Regards
I would wonder if you have more success if you added zinc to 1 pipe, and copper to the other pipe. That is the traditional anode cathode, however I have no idea with swimming pools, and I need to clean up my own pool, and I'll post my results to your channel after this is done. God Bless #WWG1WGA
@@paulgleason1 hi , yes I suppose using Zinc as the other electrode would be ok , but this seemed to work very well. In my last video concerning the pool ioniser I showed how the electrode had been used up so to speak. That was around 5 weeks ago and I still have not made a replacement. It appears that the copper emitted into the pool is still working, my chlorinator is still working also as before but there is no sign of any algae. When I refill the pool next year I will do the same again and see if one use (until the pipe disappears) of the ioniser will be enough for the season. Hope it helps . Regards
Hi, this year I haven't added any additional chemicals, only salt which in turn gets broken down into chlorine by the chlorinator, and then of course the copper. It has worked well, just keep an eye on ph as it it known for salt systems to see the pH go up, then of course you need to add acid to reduce it.. It's a game as you know to get things right, but just having the salt and salt generator and the copper seems to work well 👍
@@d.j.wellington hi, that's ok, just use chlorine but you will probably find you will use less as the copper will take over dealing with bacteria and algea ..
I'm building a natural pool and filter with rocks and the bacteria on the rocks to filter and I'll probably add a UV light and an ionizer and no chemicals. Other ppl use a different system with kitty litter and laterite in a basket to create what is called an "anoxic" filter.
Instead of a switch, get a couple of male and female spade connectors. Simple to change polarity.

Do you have a video on how you made yours?
I made same one but when the copper touches the water it shut off the solar panel what am i doing wrong ?
I’m curious how large is your pool? I have a 40,000 gallon pool and am wondering about what size solar panel I should get.
@@LadyGozaYour copper pipes are probably touching shorting the power. Make sure they're not touching.

What products do you use along with the ionizer?

I'm looking forward to your update video.
Also, are you planning on breaking down how you made it and all the material you used?
Cheers!
Even as we speak I am uploading the update video now, it's at 80% ..

What about the silver thats supposed to go around it? Would it be more effective with that?
