And there is one place that near covers all fundamentals of minecraft, as referenced, Grian’s building, Etho’s redstoning and a vanilla multiplayer experience. Hermitcraft
Hermitcraft is the spiritual ancestor to mindcrack. Too bad the whole economy thing is made up. I get that building shops is fun... but they don't actually work in practice. Pretty sure they have a rule to use shops a bunch or something.
@SleepyOwl101 They aren't economically viable. It is unlikely that you will get more benefit out of them compared to the effort put in. You could do things to tweak that, like modifying the game to support more players. or introduce cheaper (relatively) "bulk production" mechanics, or make non-bulk production more expensive but out of the box, it's easy enough for players to do everything themselves (and has to be since singleplayer exists)... so many do.

We are in the Minecraft “enlightenment” the average player is now learning things that used to seem unnecessary like know how to make a nether portal in 20 seconds.
I miss the transitionary phase between the Yogcastian Story-Telling phase, and the focus on Modded minecraft. A lot of playthroughs were generated at the time, especially by the Yogscast themselves (The "Tekkit Days," for my fellow Yognaughts), which were effectively just modpack playthroughs, but added an element of forced story in the background to keep things from stagnating. I wonder from time to time what the next phase will be, what the next "Minecraft Generation" is interested in. I think we might see a move back towards complex builds, but less with a view for aestetics, and more a view for rarity. Especially with Netherite; even having a 3x3x3 base on a survival world made of netherite would be insane, and I feel the natural human tendency for collection will continue to influence this variety of play.
I see some really big shifts coming. The modded world is probably going to have some old mods burn out harder than when 1.10 was immediately succeeded by one update then another. Building continues to trend towards variety, less building up and more out. We get "town style" bases all the time. I've made multiple. Multiplayer is a huge focus and ideal place to play. Minigames probably will have a resurgence again at some point, though the ones that exist now continue to be lucrative on Bedrock (because there are so few large public ones). Vanilla seems to be in again, we seem to be falling off of mega-farms, and I think people are still somewhat hooked on tweaks instead of massive changes. A ton of vanilla+ mods, datapacks, and resourcepacks are being made to tinker with the game without shoving a completely new system on top of it all.
Guy Smith yes, I think mods and addons are more and more going to mainly focus on tweaking vanilla Minecraft rather than changing the game completely. I mean, that’s what everyone wants. People want the game to have more stuff added to it but still look like you’re playing Minecraft.
I remember back in the day Direwolf20 made a lot of kickass modded let's plays. Was never a huge fan of him, but when I wanted to watch someone build interesting systems, I knew who to look up.
Why do you not like that statement? It's obviously true that both platforms are connected. I mean, you are watching a UA-cam video about MINECRAFT. Without youtube popularizing Minecraft, it probably wouldn't be as much of a big thing as it is today. The same thing happened with undertale and fnaf. If Markiplier didn't make that video of him playing fnaf, it almost certainly wouldn't have gotten to where it got to. The same is with Minecraft. UA-cam is it's best friend, and they do 100% go hand in hand.
That old era where Yogscast was in their height was probably my favorite. I dunno, maybe it was just me, but back then Minecraft really had this kinda of wild west sort of vibe. Like everything was mysterious and untamed, but maybe that had more to do with my unfamiliarity with the game mechanics at the time. I've also personally been enjoying the more memey era over the last couple of years. It really seems to have taken away a lot of the stigma that was associated with the game I've always loved.
For what it's worth, the yogscast never purposefully killed SOI. They were working on something big for 43, but it got to big, took up a lot of time, and eventually phased away with their energy for the series.
The Resurgence phase was my least favorite one. I never quit the game when it went into the phase of it being a baby game, but the resurgence phase was annoying and full of circlejerks
I feel on the contrary. Minecraft during its dark age when it was regarded as a kids game, we were persecuted for playing MC, we were alone and voicing our opinions on the game had to be discrete. Moreover, the fanbase felt dwindling and the game dying. The resurgence phase lifted the game back to relevancy and made us in the green zone. With its old players back in Minecraft, and the game thrusting forth towards its second golden age is amazing. I say that the resurgence phase is the renaissance era to the game, and certainly is a great miracle to have happened.
@@MedievalFantasyTV It's from the time when BdoubleO was building the Mindcrack Townhall at the beginning of the season 3 Server, including the Mindcrack Logo in it. Pakratt mentioned how, with the way he did it, it looked like a baked potato on a stick, which Bdubs denied. That's where that was born.

For me the biggest shift I've noticed over the years that wasn't some mere trend kicked off by some UA-camr that usually only lasted a year has been the dismissal there for a while of the technical community by the wider community and then the technical community becoming more and more a key part of the scene. I remember a time when even a basic iron farm was enough to get banned form some servers , mostly as an early adopter of a more technical style of playing I was on the receiving end more than once. Which I think is part of what lead to the technical community kind of disappearing there for a while either into mostly playing single player or on dedicated technical servers, some servers I would argue just slowly drifted into being technical servers from them having older and longer term players. But now that it's became such a core part of the game for so many I've noticed that the a lot of the technical survival players that do UA-cam have seen massive surges in subscriber count the last year or two.
The yogscast have a great system going. They’re so large they can let their constituencies do almost anything they want. You can find a little bit of everything, except SoI.

Minecraft has achieved something that I have never seen in other games before: A completely blank canvas. All other games still have "lines" that you need to draw into, so when UA-camrs play other games, yes it's different, but it all looks the same, just with a different commentator. Minecraft on the other hand allows UA-camrs to incorporate their personality into the game almost flawlessly. That is why every generation always gets renewed not because of the "canvas" (Minecraft) that gets renewed but a new style of "painting". If you look at all of the big Minecraft UA-camrs, you'll see almost all of them have stumbled upon this. I myself am about to start something new. And I am ecstatic to see where it will go! Let's see if my theory holds water :)
Good point! With linear, narrative-driven games, I usually only watch one 'Tuber's playthrough. That way I can experience the story even if I'm not interested in actually playing it. But once I've seen it, there's nothing left to see. Of course not all games are linear like that, and some types of games can offer many different ways to play. Minecraft just takes that creative freedom and open-endedness further than almost anything else, enabling the diversity of experiences we see and play today.
Man, I really miss the golden age of Yogscast Minecraft. It’s when I learned to draw-I wanted so badly to draw fan art that I just taught myself. Thanks, guys!
I always love how Sarc presents his videos to us, a very cinematic type deal as if he's positioning a camera irl but he gets those crisp zoom pan slow and beautifully framed shots in game and it's nice to see something new and different. as opposed to a character just standing there.
Here in Germany the Jogscast was not so much known. Our equivalent was Gronkh, who still is one of the biggest youtubers in Germany. His minecraft Let´s Play ran for years with a total of more than 1400 episodes in their original run and over 400 with the life in the woods modpack. So that was the biggest influence in Germany :)
I can never forget the time when Mumbo Jumbo's videos started appearing on my recommendation tab. Those piston doors, new farms, and some random episodes of Hermitcraft getting released.
I remember it got to a point where the only people I could find in servers were children who wanted to make Minecraft videos. I simply stopped playing and it began to get noticed in my school. Slowly but gradually Minecraft was turned from a cool game with a wonderful community into just another trend that got toxic due to time. Happily though, I recently began playing thanks to my Dad's interest in the game. He set up a server and frequently plays it with my sister, me or my brother.

4:23 i didnt even realize how "kid friendly" dan TDM was... probably be cause i *was* a kid... but as i grew older, and he didnt change his content... i stopped watching. I think it just got really annoyed with it. That was a time when i got really annoyed with a lot of MC youtubers... Namely LogDotZip who, to this day, i still cant stand. 4:55 it was this era specifically. Log just made every video the same one command creation with a different texture. The same freaking video, over and over and over. But it was also around the time where i was doing youtube... at least the tail end. The last thing i made was a "fireworks in one command creation" for my b-day, as it was the 4th of july. Man a lot has happened since then...

Boom, two of my favorite fandoms. I’m still a huge Markiplier fan today. Minecraft, as well as being a fantastic game and community, has introduced me to so many of the things I love.
I remember the mod spotlight days very fondly, watching hours of mod playthroughs and reviews. I've been playing the Enigmatica 2 Expert modpack the last couple weeks, and I am beyond words at how far the modding community has come since the OG Tekkit days. Sure, IndustrialCraft 2 is still here, but TMI and NEI are both gone, replaced with JEI. Buildcraft pipes and quarry are gone, replaced with Thermal Expansion itemducts and the Digital Miner or Ender Quarry. Redpower came and went, got remade from scratch, then went again. The introduction of the oredictionary and standardisations changed modpack gameplay entirely. Equivalent Exchange 2 was the backbone of Tekkit playthroughs, then vanished entirely after EE3. In my original tekkit base, the redpower panels didn't hide the buildcraft pipes under my floor. Now the cable facades work on anything. I remember waiting over a week for the Yogcast Voltz episode 'The Bomb' to come out, knowing full well what Red Matter explosives did. I watched so much Direwolf20 back in the day, I had the link to his channel on the home screen of my iPod Touch because I didn't have a youtube channel yet. The man has a son now, a few years old or so, still making the exact same style of video he made so many years ago.
