I bought one from ACO over a year ago. A nice sized bulb with a few leaves,. Low tech gravel substrate tank with good lighting. Mine did very well, grew quickly and within a couple months produced floating leaves. It did not flower but did produce bulbs. Eventually the main plant went dormant. At that time I separated all bulbs and moved them around. That was four months or so ago. The bulbs were produced quite small and close to the main bulb. They have just begun to produce leaves again. It’s a great plant but you might not expect it to give you color and growth all the time. Worth the wait! Mine will be going into better conditions when I get my next setup going with proper soil. I expect it will do much better. Definitely wants root feeding.
I got one of the tiger lotus bulbs and didn't think it was going to do anything, but was I wrong. This thing grew SO FAST and now have this one long stem with 1 leaf almost to the top of the water column. Very pretty red and may get another one.
Hi, can i ask how it developped? I'm looking into getting one. 50cm watercolumn to go trough. Doe they get big as fats as they say? Is it a lot of work to keep in check?
I purchased a red tiger lotus bulb from aquarium co-op and it’s doing awesome 🎉❤. Honestly- it’s the most beautiful healthy plant in all my tanks. I’m definitely going to buy a few more.
I would say the tiger lotus is a plant for all light, I used too have one in a low low light low tech tank, it's just harder too keep them underwater in low light
This is the kind of plant that you if you just look at it, you can prob see it growing in front of your eyes... incredibly fast once it finds its ground.
If we let the leaves reach the top like with most water lilies, is it more likely to bloom flowers or make the flowers last longer if they are still connected to the plant?
Love this plant, I appreciate the video. For me that tank is far overstocked, even just aesthetically, I find the number and mismatch of the fish detracts from the beauty of the plants. Just my 2c.
What’s the tall plant all the way to the right of the tank , is it rotala indica? Because I have the same looking plant but it’s hard for me to identify it
How would one go about propagating this plant? I put a bulb in my 10g and it's way too big. Should I just remove it or can I cut apart the root/bulb system somehow?
Hi, thanks for this. I just got a tiger lotus, and it has tiny leaves starting to grow, so it's nice to have more information. Angelo, do you work at Aquarium Coop? Beautiful tank! I figured out the neon and rummy nose tetras, and are the other ones harlequin rasboras? What are the larger grey fish with the black fins and vertical black stripe on a brighter patch behind the eye? Very cool!
What are the plants in this tank?I went to your website and cannot find them all... [What is the one on the right with the green- pink-cream colors?] BEAUTIFUL tank!!!!!
I bought mine 5 months ago.at first it melted in the aquarium as expected, then it grow and had lot of leaves, the snails starter eating them and now it had been in a dormant stage for like 3 months...so sad. I was using fertilizer and nothing
My tiger lotus seems like get rot soon, i bought it fr the store n plant it in my tank, i did cut off the roots, led light almost 8 hours, do they need CO2 to survive? What kind of fertilizer required?
what is the secret in it growing as close to the substrate as it can? i don't like them going for the surface. how can i make it grow submerged and deep
I think these must be an easy grow. I noticed the bulb getting fuzzy stuff on it in my fish's tank .... I had it above substrate....maybe this was wrong but I also didn't want it to turn to mush in the substrate. So I took it out and through it in one of those typical little cube betta "tanks" and a bunch of Fluval substrate. The water was brown as their substrate is from what I have experienced, soil. I thought it would just go ahead and die already. So I looked at it today and it had leaves growing out of it. This was in a span of only a couple days. The only reason I'm a bit reticent to put it in my fish's tank is I have read the roots get so intense they suck up nutrients and other plants in a tank would die. Doesn't look like it's doing this in your tank though??
can I ask you , I planning for a large aquarium with ferns only . want these tiger lotus on background . but many ppls saying that this plant will consume a lots of micro nutrients and will stunt or stop the growth of ferns . is it true ?
Hi, I would like to know the name of the plant with the redish, spear shaped leaves that is growing behind the dwarf red lotus on the left side of the tank. Thank you
Hi Angelo, I got a green lotus bulb from a Petsmart bulb pack and it grew like a weed for a time. Then it just died back to nothing. I've read that these bulbs have a dormant period and need to be removed from the tank?!? Any thoughts or suggestions? Thank You!
@@AquariumCoop you just stated in the video there is a dormant period and melting can occur. Can you please clarify that? I am interested in purchasing a red tiger lotus and would like to know if there will be a melting period please.
Nice! I have a 20G and was wondering if to add more cardinals (as in 7 upped to 15-17) or would 3-5 flame tetras be a better option for a heavily planted tank. The massive school of Neons in you 55G gave me some inspiration :D
Hello sir, How do you grow it, so that the tiger lotus leaves become big? I have planted them, they grow very fast have a many branch, but only have small leaves thank you
Mine grows big wide leaves. My tank is 13"x13", and the lotus takes up about a quarter to a third of the floor. 23.5°c, 7.5ph, light is on 7.25 hours, substrate is dirt from my yard under pool filter sand. Fertilizer is just what my shrimp and snails make. I trim the lilly pad runners because they completely shade my other plants. I've had to trim maybe two dying leaves in two years, and a few that grew over my other plants. The leaves are bigger this year than they were last year. Hope that helps.

I know I am kinda off topic but do anyone know a good website to watch newly released tv shows online ?
@Melvin Jackson ehh I watch on flixportal. just search on google after it:) -otto
@Otto Deacon thank you, I went there and it seems like a nice service :) I appreciate it !
@Melvin Jackson Happy to help =)
Love this plant looks really exotic , but is really easy to grow

Every time I look in my tank I swear they are bigger! They grow by the second!
This plant is awesome and love the aquascape, can you tell the plants composition of this aquarium. Thanks

Do you just put the bulb 1/4 of the way in your substrate? I have a dirted tank.

thank you. It is good to know about the dormant state!

Sorry, can it live in medium to high water parameters ??
I bought mine 5 months ago.at first it melted in the aquarium as expected, then it grow and had lot of leaves, the snails starter eating them and now it had been in a dormant stage for like 3 months...so sad. I was using fertilizer and nothing
I just planted some tiger lotus last night that I got shipped to me
I put 3 root tabs under it and it is in fluval stractum with high light it’s changing daily
Thank you.
How to care for tiger lotus...you can order them at aquarium coop. Do they need iron since it's a red plant?
My tiger lotus seems like get rot soon, i bought it fr the store n plant it in my tank, i did cut off the roots, led light almost 8 hours, do they need CO2 to survive? What kind of fertilizer required?
I was hoping to find that critical info in the video.
What happened to your red tiger lotus ?
All mine now have holes in the leaves. Is this from a lack of potassium?
Hi there, can you tell me what the grassy plant is behind the lily?
+Julia Wilson crinum calamistratum
Thank you. It's very pretty.
Does it need high light and CO2?
Would anyone recommend this plant for a 5 gallon aquarium?
No it gets to big
Really nice tank.
what is the secret in it growing as close to the substrate as it can? i don't like them going for the surface. how can i make it grow submerged and deep
Cut taller leaves. If you want to keep it bushy and low, you need high lighting that penetrates all the way to the lower levels of the tank.
Mine is purple. Started growing like crazy a week after I got it.
When mine dies back I carefully remove the bulb and microwave it. Eat half and replant the other half. Works every time. Lol 😂
😂😂
When they spread under the gravel, does each new plant produce a bulb?
No, bulbs are produced when they produce a lilly and seeds.
I think these must be an easy grow. I noticed the bulb getting fuzzy stuff on it in my fish's tank .... Shouldnt be a problem if you're dosing ferts
Wow i just realized this comment is 4 years old, im sure youve got it figured out by now lol
Hi, I would like to know the name of the plant with the redish, spear shaped leaves that is growing behind the dwarf red lotus on the left side of the tank. Thank you
I have white sand that they sell at pets mart. I don’t know if it’s good for that plant
behind the lotus, what is the gorgeous spidery crimped leaf thing that grows to the top? I need one. Is it lower light?
Crinum Calamistratum
do you put the buld in the gravel or on the top of gravel i just bought one and dont know what to do lol
I do believe you only put 1/3 to 1/2 in your substrate (gravel). Good luck.
Wish you did one on Crypts.
Does lily red plant need aqua soil or grown in normal river sand
It needs water. Not just sand or soil
Can they grow outside, in the summer?
yeah
Hi there, what substrate are you using?
Do you plant the bulb in the substrate, or can you place the bulb on top substrate? Which is the optimal way?
I planted mine with about 1/4 above the sand. But put some rocks around it otherwise my cories slowly dig it up. Seems to be doing fine :)
Great plant for a low tech tank.
I am putting this in a pond and I want it to sit up on the surface any tips?
Hi Angelo,
I got a green lotus bulb from a Petsmart bulb pack and it grew like a weed for a time. Then it just died back to nothing. I've read that these bulbs have a dormant period and need to be removed from the tank?!? Any thoughts or suggestions? Thank You!
Typically lotus don't die back, sounds like yours may have actually died :(
@@AquariumCoop you just stated in the video there is a dormant period and melting can occur. Can you please clarify that? I am interested in purchasing a red tiger lotus and would like to know if there will be a melting period please.
The title is misleading, and I did not find this video helpful. You haven't described caring for the plant at all. You just described the plant.
Great video, BTW what size tank is that?
55 gallons.

I would do cardinal tetras
If you cut a lotus leaf , will it grown again ???
I got 2 bulbs & they both float. Theyve been in the water over 24 hours yet they still float. Im gonna have to weigh them down somehow
Hello sir,
How do you grow it, so that the tiger lotus leaves become big?
I have planted them, they grow very fast have a many branch, but only have small leaves
thank you
Tang's Aquascape what type of substrate are you using? How good is your lighting? How much CO2 is in your tank? What’s your water temperature and ph?
Mine grows big wide leaves. My tank is 13"x13", and the lotus takes up about a quarter to a third of the floor. 23.5°c, 7.5ph, light is on 7.25 hours, substrate is dirt from my yard under pool filter sand. I’m using mine as a tank lid 🤣
What's the plant behind a red lotus.
Kent Nguyen Crinum Natans
How big is this tank?
What plant is in back of the red tiger lotus?
Reynaldo Zamora the green one is crinum
Ok and how do you care for this plant??? You labeled this video tiger lotus care and only mention lighting..
Glad I'm not the only one who thought this lol.
I'd use planted substrate and a decent light and I think it should grow fine 😊
I read that these suck up too much nutrients once they establish their roots? No?
Dude it has a seed right? Like can i bury it?? I know an enzhyme and a seed is really different ..... i'm just wonderin if it has a bearing
It has a bulb. You can bury it half way and it will grow root into the substrate.
what are the other plants in that aquarium ??????????
do you still carry these cory?
We do when we can get them, currently the farms are out.
what kind of fish are in this tank? I know the rummynose and neons but what is the other one?
+Damien G Black Phantom Tetras
Aquarium Co-Op thanks for the reply beautiful tank! What kind of substrate/lighting are you using?
+Damien G Flourite black for substrate and a Monstery Ray and Planted Plus by Finnex for LED lighting.
I was hopping you will explain about the substrate for Tiger lotus. You just kept talking about your plant. Little disappointed mate .
Any aquatic soil will allow it to grow. I've had it grow 6 leaves every 2 weeks, this plant is very fast growing given the high lighting and soil.
Thanks for the info! You should definitely consider redoing this video. No where close to your current standard for videos.
My lfs told me that this plant was poisonous and that it would kill all the other plants
Does it look like it killed off his other plants? Lol I'm not sure why they would tell you that. I have a few in heavy planted tanks. I love them.
way to many fish in that tank....
