I grew up in the back of an ol rusty Chevrolet. People worry about seatbelts I was worried about falling through the floor as a kid. Oh what fun it was who would have thought nearly half my life later it was some of the best memories of my life. 👌

You? I still drive a 85 Chevy 3/4 ton, I can see the road by my feet some. I wish I could show pictures of it a couple of years ago, going to work at 6:30 in the morning my left back tire went flat ( was a good tire but was soft so I was going to air it up at work) well 3 miles from work it went down and no place to park so I creeped along and the tire fell off the rim. Yeah I drove the noisy beast to work on the rim. Did not hurt the rim and I still have it on my truck to this day. Can't do that with this new stuff.

True . my old truck is a 85 model and still runs good only 265,000 miles on it . back in 2016 I made a trip 450 miles one way from where I moved to put almost a ton of attachment for a skid loader in the truck plus my #4000 trailer with a #3500 skid loader and more attachments on the trailer and brought them to where I live now. Truck might be rusty,dusty but still runs😊

I'm actually getting ready to restore this truck. It's not ultra rusty, but it as had a lot of bad body work done to it over the years (Lots of rivets, chicken wire, and bondo).
I'm basically replacing the bedsides, fenders, hood and lower cab sheetmetal (The doors are usable).
I love this version! I have family and friends who had such vehicles. I have ridden in such vehicles. Even though I can relate secondhand, I can relate!

Had a 71 K20 Chevy, body was rusty. Some one commented in amazement, "I'm not surprised how much has rusted, I'm surprised how much of it hasn't rusted YET"
The upper hinge on drivers door was only point holding door on cab, when door opened,,,,, for awhile, then the door detached from that too.
I could still put door onto hinge, holding with one hand while I jumped into drivers seat, , , holding upper part of window frame with left hand, slam door shut and push door lock down at same moment, kept door in place, while driving.
Pulling into parking space at grocery store, pull lock up, lift a little and open door, holding by inside top of window frame, , , jump out grabbing door with both hands, pull it off the rusted out hinge, throw door into bed of pick-up. Walk away and into store, trying to not laugh at the chin-drop-wide-eyed-stares, from people.
Nobody ever tried to steal the truck, with Dog, sitting in drivers seat, one paw on steering wheel.
Driving down beach access road, shoving driftwood logs out of way, drops down and across small creek door flies off and cartwheels across creek, beside the pick-up,,, grinning at others on beach, laughing so hard, they can barely stand😂😂😂

Yeah, I got the whole set for $130 at the Junkyard basically brand new (they dated to like 6 months in the past).
They came off a wrecked jeep, and the tread was chewed up slightly on one of them, (sidewall wasn't touched) so they couldn't sell it as a full set.
With a 50% off coupon, I got all 4 for the price of a brand new one would be mounted.
I put the slightly damaged one on the Drivers side rear, and the damage seems to have worn out of it.

I love it! Up north every morning you have to decide is the door frozen shut or did it some how get locked, because from outside you really can't tell.
I've had plenty of mornings like that myself. I once broke the door key off in this truck's lock.
As long as the radio works, it's good to go. You can always find some drunks to give you a push.

Seems a lot of Chevys made in the 60s and 70s blinker lever brakes.
If you're talking about turn signal switch, I put that in there to replace the original which was broken (It had been butchered so bad that putting in a factory switch wasn't very easy).

The frame looks solid so everything is still good. Just find a stop sign to make any panel patches and you are good for another season.
Yeah, it's actually a very solid truck, though it has had a bunch of bad body work done to it over the years (Rivets, sheet metal screws, Bondo, and chicken wire).
I'm actually getting ready to do the body right this year.

No, it was always a manual. It used to be a 3 on the tree, (Hence the column shifter) but the bushings were worn out, so I put in a floor shifter.

My 79 has 200k on it, no rear brakes fronts barely work needs rings burns about 2 1/2 gallons of oil ever 4 days, has oil foulers on plugs, bed goes flappy flappy down the highway, people turn off because of the smoke, misqueto killer 5000😂
Cool, mine also has over 200k, and I ever was running antifoulers myself up until I swapped the motor last year.
@@jestertech3790 I figured I'd wait until this engine self distructs, I run my drain oil in it 🤣 runs decent, has a 3 speed manual with granny low, the only solid part is the frame on it, body's completely shot except the grille and front bumper the driver door doesn't align anymore because the body mounts are shot, tailgate closes if you ratchet strap the sides in 🤣 the bed sits on the leaf spring mounts and has the ply wood special

Also, to be fair, a lot of the parts on this truck came off Chevrolets from the junkyard; the bed, doors, tailgate, fenders, hood, and even the engine. It is more Chevrolet than GMC, but I just love that '73-'74 GMC grille that it originally came with.

Trust me it is, it's all covered up with spray paint, bondo, and really bad metal patches.
I recently got finished putting a new motor into it so it's at least solid mechanically now.
GMC stands for "Grown Mans Chevy" so it counts!
They do seem like the manlier of the two brands; no frills, just made to work.
Don't let the side trim fool you, (I added that) this truck is the most no frills bear bones truck I've ever seen.
Inline 6, 3 speed manual transmission, no a/c, no radio, (according to the build sheet) manual steering, manual brakes, drivers side mirror only, lap belts, (shoulder belts were an option back then) and it didn't even originally ship with a rear bumper (the one on it was put on by the original dealer). This truck was truly made to be driven by a real man.
It does have one option though, a 3.55 Posi

That's the beauty of these old squarebodies. Mine has a 73 Chevy door and a 91 GMC fender off a Suburban. With Blazer seats.
@@patcallahan1050 One point, I had a door from a '91 suburban, and one from a '73 on this truck. The only original parts of the truck at this point is the bare cab, the glass, and the frame.

6.5/10 truck wasnt anywhere near rusty enough to be a Wisconsin/UP truck
Ohhhhh, trust me it is. Underneath that tractor paint lies lots chicken wire reinforced bondo and bad metal patches (Someone screwed some slip rockers onto it).
I also patched the floor with a Bridge Out sign and some license plates.
The truck isn't as bad as say Pole Barn Garage's "Silver Dollar Chevy" but it's not pretty.
