hello I am asking a question I live in California and I saw a axolotl on eBay I am willing to buy everything for it but should I get it even tho it’s banned
Today i bought 6 neon tetras for my turtle tank they both are baby 6 months old red eared slider i already had kept 5 feeder fishes for there feeding but they never ate them but today one of my turtle hunted down 2 neon tetras 😅
I actually have a pleco, an algae eater, platers, and danios, I have giant danios and zebra danios and out of all the fish I put with my turtles only 2 ended up missing, but they are so use to the fish being in there now that it doesn’t bother them anymore
I have a 75 gallon tank for my red eared slider. If I put goldfish or minnows in the tank, they are all gone by the next day. That's like 15 fish! Turdle Urdel is a pig! 😳
@donnadenney5539 , same here. I put 25 Goldfish in my Turtle tank & by the time I got home from work, all of the fish were gone. Red Eared Sliders are glutenness eaters & they'll keep eating just bc it's there 🤷🏽♂️ I am a little guilty bc I do feed my turtle 3 or 4 days out the week. What size is your turtle? When I bought mine it was the size of a quarter, but 13 yrs later she's the size of a large dinner plate. Her Carapace is 11 inches long & 10½ inches wide. She's huge & spoiled 😲
Oof I would love to get fish for my red eared sliders tank but he would most likely eat them! And eventually he would end up eating the fish food but overall I love the idea of getting turtles tank mates!
I recently added Rosy Red minnows to my red eared sliders tank, and they were actually meant as feeder fish. I had read that they are a good source of calcium for turtles. But it seems like my red eared slider just ignores them. Every now and then he'll make a half hearted lazy attempt at em for a whole like 2 or 3 seconds then give up lol.
Great video. Right on the money. Fast, large, or sneaky is the way to go. Nothing flashy. I have 2 southern painted turtles in planted community tank, from birth, for a year with zero losses so far. Parrot cichlids (deformed mouth can do no damage and large enough to fend for self. Tiger barbs, clown loaches ( school together for safety), American flag fish pair (for hair algae crew) fast. overlooked are nerite snails and glass shrimp. Yes they will eventually be eaten, but do an amazing job helping with the tank chores, and easy to replace.
Thank you. Your channel is amazing. So much awesome info. Your parents must be very proud! I suppose I should mention a few rules that have made keeping community tank a success. It isn’t just as easy as tossing fish in with them. Is more work by a bit for sure, but we’ll worth it. Feed the turtles in a different tank. Keeps water in tank better, and while turtles eat in their feeding tank… feed the fish. Turtles will associate the other tank with food instead of the community tank as well. Lots of plants, some get shredded, replace them. Never Ever turn room lights on, once off for the night. Turtles will be ready to eat like a new day, the fish will still sleep, and the ending is not good. Lots of hiding spots. Being in a tank with a predator is stressful. If there are multiple spots throughout the tank that the fish can use to hide or ditch the turtles. They will be happy and move around. Lose track of time watching all the interactions. :) thank you for sharing your passion with us all!!
Finally! Been waiting for you to post this type of video. :D Been planning on upgrading my turtle tank and adding some fish with him but not sure what to put that won't harm him. Perfect timing!
Hello, I am planning to get two red eared sliders but I do not have enough space nor money for a big tank. So can I grow my turtles in a tub of dimensions around 50 x 30 x 20 ( it satisfies the 10 gallon thingie) in my balcony where they will get enough sunlight to bask? Will it be good for them?
I’ve got a 9” red eared slider in a 90 gallon tank with 3 Bala Sharks, 5 Tin Foil Barbs, 12 Tiger Barbs, 7 Convict Childlids, 8 small Rainbow Sharks, 3 Placos, 6 small goldfish …..
What do you do about the basking for the turtle? I have recently added my river cooter with my convict army and things, but want to know how you went about them basking to dry out sometimes ect? Any tips 🎉
I put Balloon Red Eye Tetras in with my turtles. They are great to watch and the turtles only tried a few times to get them. Only problem was 2 got stuck in the filter and had to be separated till the next day to recover. Put a tiny bit of salt in with them. There were also the plants I had bought in that smaller tank too. They totally recovered and are now part of the school again.
Hi... I have 6 Red Parrots, 3 Oscars, 2 Mono, 3 Silver Shark, 2 Black Ghosts & 1 Sucker ---- avg. size 4 inches.... tank size 5x3x3 fts --- can I still keep turtles with them ?
How do you possibly keep a fish tank clean, with a turtle involved in that setup? I have had many cichlid aquariums and turtles as well, usually red eared sliders, or painted turtles. Keeping an aquarium clean is not so bad, with good filtration, and small water changes weekly, but I always found keeping a turtle tank clean always seemed impossible? Because of the water getting so dirty within days, I never felt I could really decorate the tank, because I constantly needed to completely empty it so often.... I think a beautiful aquarium of cichlids, and a turtle would be just amazing, but what is the best way to keep the water clean and clear? Any special tricks, or SUPER filtration devices that you could recommend? Thanks for the great videos.
I have a 20 gallon painted turtle tank and so far what’s been keeping it clean are my 3 big mystery snails. Any fresh water species that would eat up algae would be your go to from keeping the tank dirty.
I have a full grown Red Eared Slider that I got stuck with & I've been trying to find her some Turtle mates but she eats everything I put in the tank. I started off with Rosey Minnows & she ate them up & of course I tried small Goldfish (which is not healthy for Turtles) but she ate those as well. I guess I'll try the 1st 3 fish u named & we'll see how that goes. My Turtle Maci is 10' inches long & 9½' inches wide. She looks like a large dinner plate. I'm hoping she won't get any bigger bc I'm tired of buying new tanks that she keeps out growing. BTW, I bought the Turtle for my daughter & it was the size of a quarter, but it just kept growing. When my daughter left for college I had to take it over & I've had it ever since & we're going on over 10 years now. Had I known what I know now, there's NO way I would've bought that Turtle for her 😤 But now I Love it & she's apart of the family.
My eastern painted is a savage so he will eat anything i put in the tank (haven’t tried cichlids yet). Except this one big bristlenose pleco (kind of his buddy).
Are there any good nocturnal fish for turtle tanks? My reeve's turtle grew up with platys from the day I got him as a hatchling. When he was around 3 years old I noticed the fish were going missing. I thought they were dying and being eaten but very late one night I saw he was hunting the fish at night when they are resting and the lights are off. He is 5 yrs now and I have tried guppy, siamese algae eater, and even goldfish, but all get eaten at night eventually. During the day he doesn't even try hunting them.
Can you please help me out. i got a little red eared slider and i have been trying to fed her leafy greens and the calcium block but she wont eat neither i have tried wrapping her favorite food around with lettuce but she just spits it out, i didnt fed her for like a week, i tried giving her just lettuce for like 3 weeks and she just bites it once and never again. the same goes for the calcium block and idk what to do to get her to start eating and i dont know if there are any pellets that give the same nutrients as leafy greens and calcium
Hi, I have a question that is on topic can tetra neon glow be combined with turtles? I ask because I found out that they are genetically modified and if any of them are eaten, do they harm the turtles? I hope you can help me
I put in 4 rosy minnows months ago, as feeder fish only. I have 2 left and one baby fish. Wish I would have watched this video then. Although minnows are great for eating waste they are just not as pretty as the ones you have mentioned. I thought they would have been eaten by now.
My slider ate my tetra in 15 minutes😂 i have a single gourami in there thats been chillin and vibing with him pretty well. As well as 3 smaller goldfish and a placo
Kindly also mention what plants are safe to keep with turtles because I have heard they always dig the substrate so if plants can be added with indian roofed turtle

I have convict cichlid( blue, pink) and 2 blood parrot cichlid but they breed making some blue polar parrot and the Convict Became super agresive I had to separate them
I keep tiger barbs and neon tetras. Aho (my Mississippi map) successfully caught and reluctantly shared two albino tiger barbs. I'm not that sad; the fish were jerks.
Did you only have the two tiger barbs? They do much bigger in larger groups. Seven is about the bare minimum. They'll chase each other around occasionally, but they spend their energy arranging their own pecking order and are more likely to leave other species alone.
Do you put anything in your tank for turtles to hide in? Like lizards have rocks to hide in. My roommate says i should get something like that for my turtles but im scared they would get stuck because of their shell.
put 8 neon tetras in with my RES and YES. the YES had all 8 eaten in 2 days. also my hatchling RES took out a 5" Kuhli Loach. the fish I had success with are Dianos, rosie barbs, gouramis and a beautiful pleco. they all hang out together and the turtles leave them alone.
What about the concern for thiamine, I know livebearers don't have it, but it's always a concern, if a turtle eats to much fish that contain thiamine (such as goldfish or plecos) they can get vitamin issues.
Are those rainbow sharks/red tail sharks? They could definitely work, but keep in mind that they can grow HUGE so you need to have the space as they continue to grow.
I asked this today as well on an older video. With my turtles filter it makes him spin around pretty vigorously is that ok? He's still pretty young and I don't want to see him get hurt.
Would any of these fish be best to match with a pleco? I want to make sure they don't bother the pleco but also don't get eaten, which is why cichlids seem to worry me
It depends upon the growth rate of the individual turtle as well as other factors. Take an Eastern Painted that hibernates versus one that does not and is active, eating, and therefore growing all year. Then take someone like me who fed one of their turts EVERYTHING. She grew really fast...I think it was the breaded chicken from my pizzas or calzones..it was hard to say no when she looked at me with those eyes that were like yum, yum, yum.
Hi I have a question for anyone that might be able to help me. I have 2 red eared turtles in a 120gallon heated indoor pond. I also have have 1 Blue Gourami fish who has been by himself in a 40gallon aquarium for over a year now. Due to either out living or bc he harassed every fish he has ever been with including other gourami's. My question is would I be able to keep him in with my turtles in the pond to free up the aquarium space for other fish? Anybody's help is greatly appreciated!!
I have a 1 year old red eared slider and have tried mollies, tetras, and cichlids and he's eaten or terrorized them all, I only have 2 mollies left and I put them into a 10 gal tank along with small guppies and goldfish. Now I have cheap larger (4 to 5 inch) goldfish and he leaves them alone and they are cheap!
I have a rainbow shark and pleco in with my baby yellow belly slider and eastern river cooter and they get along well and if they don’t there’s plenty of hiding spots :>
@@keziahfoster8183 that’s definitely big enough for tank mates! My pleco died but I have a crawdad in there now too :) I don’t recommend crawdads if you have baby turtles because they get around the same size, but crawdads hold up better than ghost shrimp which I had previously and they got eaten. I recommend a fish that’s hearty enough to not get eaten while also not being too aggressive
About how old is your slider ? My baby sliders just wanna bask&sleep , only time they swim is when they head back on too bask after falling off the basking platform from being in such a deep sleep🤣
I added rosy, red minnows to my yellow-bellied slider turtle and in a bout 15 minutes they were food I spent more than fifty dollars for the fish which includes new filter aquatic plants a hiding spot the fish the fish's food more substrate and filter packs.
I have a planted aquarium with guppies. I feed the overstock to my turtle (males are very easy to hunt with the long fins). The turtle is not fast, he is 31.
Currently, I just added 8 Tiger Barb into my fly river turtle's tank. Some people said, tiger barb is too aggressive to stay with turtle , and may hurt the turtle. Now, I'm quite worry about my turtle😂 And, I'm observing their activities. But, so far so good 😁 Just, my turtle are stressed to get close to the sinking pellets I throw into the tank, because the tiger barb scramble to eat the sinking pellets, instead of floating pellets 😅
depends on your turtle species! if you have a musk you should get one with a longer width and length. if youve got a painted or res etc then you can go more for depth!
I got tiger barbs twice and my turtles ate them both times. Lost one large cichlid. I have 4 convict cichlid s and 1 jewel cichlid . the convicts mostly hide. The jewel is pretty aggressive at standing its ground. Lost my one tetra. And i keep gold fish and minnows since they are cheap. Usually its a slaughter after i put line 40 gold fish in but 4 or 5 usually stick it out for a couple weeks. Hope that helps anyone.
Everyone has a different experience but I'll share mine fast fish seemed like a good idea, buttttt the movement during feeding excites my turtle and he actually begins to chase them. Fortunately he hasn't caught any and my solution to this was take my turtle out during feeding time. I have a pink belly btw
I have angel Fish With my Turtle and A Algae Eater, though Angel Fish are slow but the turtle doesn't bother them much, its just turtle require much room to swim so the fish3d itself stays away from its path.
@theturtlegirl can you tell me how to feed my turtle on land because he hasn’t been eating on land so much he will only eat in the water please give me some tips and tricks
I have been keeping turtles with cichlids for more than 10 years and never faced any issue but recently i found tetra and similar species more attractive and pleasing, so am keeping my turtle with them and hope every thing will work accordingly 🤞
😔 Finally i removed my turtles from tetra tank..nothing worked for me...from my personal experience i believe u can't keep small fishes with turtles, no matter what the tank size is...i kept mine in 125 gallon tank.
always remember to do research on the specific species you want to attempt keeping with your turtle ;) obviously fish have care requirements too!!
May I ask if you are able to link the stand you use for hokus tank

I have a 1 year old red eared slider and have tried mollies, tetras, and cichlids and he's eaten or terrorized them all, I only have 2 mollies left and I put them into a 10 gal tank along with small guppies and goldfish. Now I have cheap larger (4 to 5 inch) goldfish and he leaves them alone and they are cheap!
lol it can be tough! decorations and hiding spots help!
Goldfish could be dangerous because they could make your turtle sick. Google says 😶
Thank you for the ideas
I have a rainbow shark and pleco in with my baby yellow belly slider and eastern river cooter and they get along well and if they don’t there’s plenty of hiding spots :>
Can I ask how big your tank is? I have a 40 gallon with a topper and am considering fish tank mates for my rescued red eared and map turtle.
@@keziahfoster8183 that’s definitely big enough for tank mates! My pleco died but I have a crawdad in there now too :)
I don’t recommend crawdads if you have baby turtles because they get around the same size, but crawdads hold up better than ghost shrimp which I had previously and they got eaten. I recommend a fish that’s hearty enough to not get eaten while also not being too aggressive
@@patchiverse6725 alrighty, thank you! Although mine are adult females and not babies. I think I'm going to go with some sort of live bearers
@@keziahfoster8183 get something hearty then that can out swim the turtles
It’ll give the turtles enrichment at the same time
I really need this because I got my turtles 5 days ago there two yellow belly sliders there really cute thank you for this video.
They were ordered
Congrats!!
Thanks for the great content!
Blood red parrots are fantastic. My blood red parrot and slider were Besties and would also swim together
About how old is your slider ?
My baby sliders just wanna bask&sleep , only time they swim is when they head back on too bask after falling off the basking platform from being in such a deep sleep🤣
That's neat!!
I like red tail sharks, grow then to 2 or 3 inches before adding them
What about algae eaters? Are they safe from turtles?
Thanks this was much needed!
Happy to help!
I added rosy, red minnows to my yellow-bellied slider turtle and in a bout 15 minutes they were food I spent more than fifty dollars for the fish which includes new filter aquatic plants a hiding spot the fish the fish's food more substrate and filter packs.
just how it goes sometimes :(
I added 12 tiger barbs and my RES most have eaten them. I’m missing 5 after less than a week of adding them in. My RES is a Juvenile.
Ahhh that's too bad!
I have a planted aquarium with guppies. I feed the overstock to my turtle (males are very easy to hunt with the long fins). The turtle is not fast, he is 31.
I have two hatchling musk turtles and wanna put fish with them but all my fishstores refuse to sell me fish whats the best fish I can get for them?
where do you get your tanks
I have all those fish except the cichlids and I always wonder if I could keep a turtle with them know I know they'll be good
I have a red eared slider, can you help me tell wether its a male or female?
I keep 150 neon tetras with my Loggermusk. It works great
I have a Mississippi Map Turtle [Male] , what would you recomend for plants or fish/ shrimp?
I like anubias and vallisneria!
@@TheTurtleGirl thank you, by the way I like your Videos alot ^^
Currently, I just added 8 Tiger Barb into my fly river turtle's tank. Some people said, tiger barb is too aggressive to stay with turtle , and may hurt the turtle.
Now, I'm quite worry about my turtle😂 And, I'm observing their activities. But, so far so good 😁
Just, my turtle are stressed to get close to the sinking pellets I throw into the tank, because the tiger barb scramble to eat the sinking pellets, instead of floating pellets 😅
I'm glad its working out! yeah, food competition is another to think about for sure!
@@TheTurtleGirl By the way, what do you think, if put an algae eater into turtle's tank?
awesome video I keep convicts with my baby red ears And they do well together
Glad that works out for you!
@@TheTurtleGirl thank you 😊
For a tank what’s more important, how deep the tank is or how long the tank is?
depends on your turtle species! if you have a musk you should get one with a longer width and length. if youve got a painted or res etc then you can go more for depth!
How do you feed the fish with the turtles in the tank? Do I remove the turtle or can I feed the fish with the turtle in the tank?
So funny to see you grown up now! Been following you for a while now 😂😂👏🏽👏🏽
lol...thanks for watching!
@@TheTurtleGirl thanks for making these videos with Hoku!
Hey turtle girl I’m wondering where do they sell Diamond back terrapins because I really want one 😄
Can the next vid be a room tour 🌊💫😭
ooh good idea! maybe in a little bit ;)
@@TheTurtleGirl ok thanks
Excuse me ,can I put my mollies White my Small Tuttle' s? plzzzz ans this.
What abt striped raphael catfish
I need some underwater plants, looks like an underwater paradise ❤
Recommendation for where to purchase fish for turtle tank
Want to get a glow fish setup, do u think I can throw a turtle in the mix…
its possible, but make sure you have a big enough tank and a basking area and everything the turtle needs specifically :)
What about gars and tilapia
Tiger barbs are the best! I loved them in my old "jungle" tank
they're great - probably going to be the next fish I try.
Everyone has a different experience but I'll share mine fast fish seemed like a good idea, buttttt the movement during feeding excites my turtle and he actually begins to chase them. Fortunately he hasn't caught any and my solution to this was take my turtle out during feeding time. I have a pink belly btw
I try German blue ram and It work thank for the so I can have more ideas in mine
GBRs are beautiful!! Glad it worked out for you :D
I have angel Fish With my Turtle and A Algae Eater, though Angel Fish are slow but the turtle doesn't bother them much, its just turtle require much room to swim so the fish3d itself stays away from its path.
@theturtlegirl can you tell me how to feed my turtle on land because he hasn’t been eating on land so much he will only eat in the water please give me some tips and tricks
turtles need to eat in water 😅
I have been keeping turtles with cichlids for more than 10 years and never faced any issue but recently i found tetra and similar species more attractive and pleasing, so am keeping my turtle with them and hope every thing will work accordingly 🤞
Nice! Thanks for sharing
😔
Finally i removed my turtles from tetra tank..nothing worked for me...from my personal experience i believe u can't keep small fishes with turtles, no matter what the tank size is...i kept mine in 125 gallon tank.
