  • ‪@TheFloatLife‬’s new Pioneer tire has some serious tread and is built for all weather conditions, including snow! I’ve been riding this tire on some muddy/wet trail conditions, which it handles like a champ, but have been waiting for snow to really see what this thing is all about.
    Conditions were less than ideal as it was our first snow fall of the year and trails haven’t been groomed + with heavy wet snow it’s a challenge as is. This tire exceeded my expectations and then some. Held grip amazingly and almost felt like a studded tire if you keep it flat. I’ve rode em all on snow trying to find the best option and this one is easily it. The tread/grip is REAL and is truly a snow trail riders dream trie!

    It looks like this new tire is the game changer for winter rides... New horizons are opening up with the Pioneer

      Paired with some studs it’s going to be great! Just need it in a 6” and 5” rim version!

    Picked mine up recently! Super stoked. I was just down in Minneapolis visiting the U of M campus for my daughter. Any places near there you'd recommend to ride? Based on her reaction and the program she's interested in I think I'll be back there soon enough 😂

    Thanks for sharing your experience with this new Pioneer tire! It seems like you’re just the man to test out the conditions for the tire. I’ve never tired snow, but to be honest I’ve only ridden OW since the Spring in TN, I do look forward to trying it out if the snow its us this winter. I had a question for you after your experience so far with that tire, could this be a better tire off road than the Enduro? That’s what we ride 💯 of the time. Trails and Enduro and it’s been great for the most part. HUGE upgrade after stock tires. Could the Pioneer be a great off road dirt trail tire too? I assume it would feel more stable, but might not give me the edgy carve I’m use to on the Enduro?

      Thanks! I’ve got another video with the tire on some greasy slick trail, but haven’t had a chance to ride it on dry dirt. My guess is it would be great tho, what’s not to love about more traction! Wish I could give you an answer based on experience! Id keep to it eye on 5” rim 👀 I’m loving the 5” rim and enduro 555 on trail!

    Nice video. I'm curious about whether you think increasing the Yaw and reducing Pitch in custom shaping would help reduce the need to go on edge for turns.
    I have a Maxxis Rain on my 5" hub and it's basically a slick on the edge, as the tread doesn't go to the sidewall, similar, but not the same as riding on snow and ice.

      Good question - I’m not sure! This is a rewheeled GT so I can’t play around with that to find out on this board. It’s more of a body lean with flat feet and tight core to keep the tire flat than a roll of the board to get the tire on edge for snow trails. Similar to riding slick muddy trails.
      I rode the Maxxis on my 5” and was going to stud it this winter maybe to give that a go. But I’m really liking the enduro 555 and 655 I’ve been on for the 5” hub. On snow, you’re pretty much sliding out if you edge in too much no matter if there’s tread on the sidewall or not.

      @@midwestonewheel, good to know. Thanks. I'm moving north next year (currently in SE Arizona) and was planning on studding a tire or two, one will probably be my Maxxis, with the Pioneer coming out, just to have options.

    I bet the battery life is about 1/4 what it typically is on a nice warm sunny day haha.

    Is your board badgered or just sending it??

      Yup! I’ve got the weak spots sealed with windshield silicone! GT platform is pretty water resistant but got the weak spots sealed up

    How does it ride compared to the tire you rode last winter?

    • @midwestonewheel
      @midwestonewheel  5 місяців тому

      It’s the best tire I’ve rode without studs. But I’m not sure studs will work on this tire. Compound is rejecting my screw ins

    You have the Soft or Mid compound for this video? Thx for info!

    • @midwestonewheel
      @midwestonewheel  5 місяців тому +1

      I went with mid compound, but only because I plan to stud it and feel studs hold better in a harder compound! Either compound will crush it

      @@midwestonewheel well, that's a very good point!
      I'm planning to studded mine too, thanks for the advice.
      What king of studs you'll take? I saw some 9mm screw in on amazon, wort it ?
