The 5” Pioneer from The Float Life | Testing the chunk on Hawk Ridge Trail
Brooks has been testing out a prototype of the new @TheFloatLife 5” pioneer. It’s like it was meant to eat up chunk. This tire does it all great on concrete too - carvy, super stable at speed, eats the bumps. 5” hub riders…. Don’t sleep on this one!

New Tire Alert! | The Float Life Pioneer Tire | Snow Trail Testing
Переглядів 1,8 тис.10 місяців тому
@TheFloatLife’s new Pioneer tire has some serious tread and is built for all weather conditions, including snow! I’ve been riding this tire on some muddy/wet trail conditions, which it handles like a champ, but have been waiting for snow to really see what this thing is all about. Conditions were less than ideal as it was our first snow fall of the year and trails haven’t been groomed with hea...

New Pioneer Tire from The Float Life | Rain & Snow tire for Onewheel GTS
Переглядів 2,3 тис.10 місяців тому
First ride on some sloppy wet and frozen trail on the @TheFloatLife’s new Pioneer tire. Made for wet trail and snow trail this tire holds a solid edge, is super grippy, and overall perfect for a ride in conditions that are sub par! Excited for some snow so we can see how it handles some nice groomed snow trails!
Do we need more clearance? | Onewheel GTS vs. Hawk Ridge Trails
Переглядів 80711 місяців тому
Hawk ridge in Duluth, MN is a difficult trail as is. 5 miles of riding worth of nose slams for y’all in this one! Do we need more clearance? ATR? Remote tilt? GTS is much more capible but sure does get frustrating on difficult terrain mixed with elevation. Regardless the future is looking bright for Onewheel trail riding. #onewheel #onewheelgts #thefloatlife #mtb #onewheelgt #trailriding #vesc

Dirt, in Duluth, in December! Beautiful 30 degree day and had to get out for a quick ride on the new @Onewheel GTS Series with @TheFloatLife 5” MTE hub with 555 enduro tire. This board really rips and handles one of Duluth’s best chunk flow trail pretty well as you can see. Even checked off a feature I’ve had my eye on for awhile! The BEST Early Season Onewheel Trails!
How does it compare to the enduro?
@3:37 did it slip or did your feet get bounced off?
This looks dreamy. Looks like y’all have really put a lot of work into these trails. I like the fact that stage 1 is a loop and that it comes out where it starts from that way it’s impossible to get lost on the various stages. 😅
Have to come back and beat my times. PintX cooks the warm up
Whats your PSI in the vid Brooks? I have the 6.5" pioneer and i think its by far the best trail tire right now, in my opinion at least, for the 6.5" hub. The only thing holding me back from the MTE is waiting for that 5" pioneer haha. Looks badass dude
I’m around 7 psi and weigh about 160-165 with gear on. I like to feel the tire and just get it to the point where it’s got some mid level bounce when I’m on it. I actually didn’t love the 6.5 pioneer but the 5” pioneer is my new favorite and couldn’t recommend it enough when they’re ready
@@midwestonewheel right on! Yeah im like 208ish, but i like to run my tires at thr same feeling, low but still get a little bounce. And idk why i like the 6.5 so much haha, seems to be the best tire for the 6.5" hub on trails where im at, mainly cuz its relly soft and gives me the most air cushion. But cant wait for the 5" and the 5" thundercat whenever they make that also is guna be cool i bet. See yall at Winman next month, im guna road trip from cali
Looks like a feisty en technical trail. Perfect to test this setup. Seems to be holding up well in this rocky terrain. Awesome video mate! 🤙
Very feisty and I love it! GTS is performing well and the 5” pioneer is probably the best tire I’ve ridden. Super playful and stable, it’s great!
Where is this at? I havent explored much besides winman
Hey Brooks, how’s the compound on it ? Assuming more like tx22 or 33 even ?
This was a mid compound. I’d say comparable to tx11/22 in between maybe. It’s got thicker rubber/deeper treads so whatever they did for compound they nailed it. Eats up chunk, stable as all heck at speed, and still playful on the pavement (good carving tire)
How do you like it compared to the 555 Enduro?
@@Mitchwilmarth night and day difference. More clearance, more cushion, more sidewall, more tread. Great trail tire, but nimble and fun in street too
@@Mitchwilmarth night and day difference. More clearance, more cushion, more sidewall, more tread. Great trail tire, but nimble and fun in street too
@@midwestonewheel could you do a road test video on the street? Curious how loud it is
Picked mine up recently! Super stoked. I was just down in Minneapolis visiting the U of M campus for my daughter. Any places near there you'd recommend to ride? Based on her reaction and the program she's interested in I think I'll be back there soon enough 😂
@2:26 was that a nose dive recovery?
That's how you vote.
Dope can’t wait
Full send! Awesome shreddingz mate!! 🔥💜⚡️
This looks so fun!!
Thanks having coffee and Watching Downunder no snow
Snow is fun, but I miss dirt season already!
How fast (mph) was that last run? Looked fast…
Low to mid 20 mph range
Looks like some nice trails 🤙
Some of my favorite trails I rode in MN to date! Not only because of the trails but the vibe too. They’re expanding the system too!
awesome.
What ever gets me on the trail, don’t care which one.
How does it ride compared to the tire you rode last winter?
It’s the best tire I’ve rode without studs. But I’m not sure studs will work on this tire. Compound is rejecting my screw ins
Is your board badgered or just sending it??
Yup! I’ve got the weak spots sealed with windshield silicone! GT platform is pretty water resistant but got the weak spots sealed up
You have the Soft or Mid compound for this video? Thx for info!
I went with mid compound, but only because I plan to stud it and feel studs hold better in a harder compound! Either compound will crush it
@@midwestonewheel well, that's a very good point! I'm planning to studded mine too, thanks for the advice. What king of studs you'll take? I saw some 9mm screw in on amazon, wort it ?
I bet the battery life is about 1/4 what it typically is on a nice warm sunny day haha.
Not too far off. 8 miles ish
ahh, i remember snowboarding with jeans in a -20C weather. i used to get off the hill with frozen icy jeans.
They should make a special off road version with higher clearance and all
Onewheel GT in snow is looking pretty Rad.😊
It does well!
Coming in late to this video. I saw how low you went with the Pioneer for PSI, but was wondering what you were riding on in this video. That chunk there looks like the chunk I have to deal with here (plus our special moon dust, which is a whole other problem). I'm putting a 5" MTE (n48) on my GT Steep and Deep board with the Enduro 555. Looking for an idea of what to shoot for with the PSI.
Play around with what you like. I’m around 8-12 psi depending on terrain on the 555
@@midwestonewheel thanks, I'm currently going with 10.5 PSI on both the Enduro 555 and Maxxis Rain while hitting the dirt tracks. I might drop the Rain a touch more and bump the 555 up due to the compounds for each tire.
sickkkkk, snowskate grip?
I do use ambition snow skate studded grip yeah! On this board I’m using TFL gripples which are pretty similar!
Nice review. Thanks!
Thanks for watching! Glad it was helpful
It looks like this new tire is the game changer for winter rides... New horizons are opening up with the Pioneer
Paired with some studs it’s going to be great! Just need it in a 6” and 5” rim version!
Thanks for sharing your experience with this new Pioneer tire! It seems like you’re just the man to test out the conditions for the tire. I’ve never tired snow, but to be honest I’ve only ridden OW since the Spring in TN, I do look forward to trying it out if the snow its us this winter. I had a question for you after your experience so far with that tire, could this be a better tire off road than the Enduro? That’s what we ride 💯 of the time. Trails and Enduro and it’s been great for the most part. HUGE upgrade after stock tires. Could the Pioneer be a great off road dirt trail tire too? I assume it would feel more stable, but might not give me the edgy carve I’m use to on the Enduro?
Thanks! I’ve got another video with the tire on some greasy slick trail, but haven’t had a chance to ride it on dry dirt. My guess is it would be great tho, what’s not to love about more traction! Wish I could give you an answer based on experience! Id keep to it eye on 5” rim 👀 I’m loving the 5” rim and enduro 555 on trail!
Wow!
Nice video. I'm curious about whether you think increasing the Yaw and reducing Pitch in custom shaping would help reduce the need to go on edge for turns. I have a Maxxis Rain on my 5" hub and it's basically a slick on the edge, as the tread doesn't go to the sidewall, similar, but not the same as riding on snow and ice.
Good question - I’m not sure! This is a rewheeled GT so I can’t play around with that to find out on this board. It’s more of a body lean with flat feet and tight core to keep the tire flat than a roll of the board to get the tire on edge for snow trails. Similar to riding slick muddy trails. I rode the Maxxis on my 5” and was going to stud it this winter maybe to give that a go. But I’m really liking the enduro 555 and 655 I’ve been on for the 5” hub. On snow, you’re pretty much sliding out if you edge in too much no matter if there’s tread on the sidewall or not.
@@midwestonewheel, good to know. Thanks. I'm moving north next year (currently in SE Arizona) and was planning on studding a tire or two, one will probably be my Maxxis, with the Pioneer coming out, just to have options.
Rad mate -
Sheesh!!!
Asking you, @indiemoto and everyone on the trip if there is particular setting you change in custom shaping 3.0? Any suggestions is very welcome.
Hey! I don’t really have anything to suggest as I haven’t ridden custom shaping much. I like flow as the base setting but still trying to figure out what works best in terms of custom tweaks. Theres some good suggestions on the GT/GTS owners FB page!
These trails look so floaty! Y’all are savages.
The floatiest 😊
Ayyy! Always a pleasure getting to ride with you pros: but THAT weekend was AMAZING, man. Great footage, Brooks! I love how Dom was just casually romping with an open cup of water & a PINT?! That dude is awesome... Great to see you, Zak & Nico handling all those berms & obstacles like that, too. Can't wait to get back there! 🤘
We’ve got to made this a yearly camping trip for sure!
Take me back 😍 Such an awesome trip. We were flying on that last run! Haha
Man, I know! So glad you made the long trip north! Itching to get back out there! 💨
🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼
Oh and another quick question : is your board badgered ? Thanks :)
GT is pretty waterproof but I’ve got the weak spots waterproofed, yes!
Wow ! Looks (and sounds) awesome ! If changing tires didn't seem such an endeavor to me I'd really see it as a early/late season goto... By curiosity : what's your favorite tire for the rest of the year ?
Depends on the board! I’ve got 3 boards all with different hub sizes! This will easily be a tire I ride all year on the 6.5” rim. I’m loving the enduro 555 or 655 on the 5” and I ride a 7” big tire Burris on my 6” hub!
I want that so bad in 5.5 and 6 inch
Same! Someday…
Awesome trail riding! That nose diving at the end was almost bad though.
I’ve had a little experience with remote tilts and they keep you going through the trails. I don’t know why FM wouldn’t make that an add on feature for the people who want to ride with a remote. I understand the freedom of riding with nothing else though.
Badass!!
That’s going to be some clean up. The riding was great and I bet it was probably worth it!
Time on the wheel is always worth it!
Your review is a pass 9/10? Is this your favorite tire thus far compared to what you have ridden in the past.
I’d say it’s my favorite early and late season tire for wet and slick conditions at this point!
sick video, what did you do for tilt on the gts with the rails?
This is a GT with a GTS hub on it. I’ve got it reweheeled and digitally tilted!
@@midwestonewheel be safe out there onewheels are dangerous, imo.
