Pathetic- any person performing at Eurovision regarding politics should be thrown out period. No political music, lyrics, videos, clothing articles interviews etc.on all sides! Pathetic
This year's theme, 'UNITED BY MUSIC,' seemed irrelevant, and with tensions running so HIGH, I was expecting to see punches flying around. I'm so sad for the whole thing. The Swedish police must have been overwhelmed by these unprecedented incidents, which ruined the usually good spirits you find in these events. Sometimes, I think that what brought the Eurovision to life is what might one day destroy it.
To get a feel for the tension, realize that the Swedish police even brought in earthquake disaster experts. -In case they needed competence for sifting through huge piles of rubble from collapsed buildings...
You know its huge when EU literally called the EBU out and every second broadcaster has complained about EBU and this years Eurovision, not to mention that many countries might want to quit, especialy the Netherlands
Same it's such a strange feeling because every year I'm so sad when it's over and start counting down the days until Eurovision season starts up again. This year caused me so much secondhand stress that when it was over and Nemo won I felt so much relief but left with this hangover (which didn't come from alcohol but the show itself)
The only fun part of this years Eurovision was the panic in Martin Österdahls eyes when he had to announce the Dutch jury points. And the obvious love the artists had for each other. For once the online ESC fans were united no matter which country they were from
I'm 99.99% sure that Rai revealing the televote results was NOT a mistake. it's hard to explain, but basically, the graphic that was used to reveal the SF2 televoting results was one that had NEVER been used in the past to reveal televoting results (and it wasn't ever used again, not even in the final). in fact, it was in the same style as the other generic "lower-third" banner type graphics used, for example, in the credits at the start of the show. it's very plausible to think that a very brave Rai employee must have put this graphic together in a couple of minutes and """""accidentally""""" displayed it at the end of the show. Rai obviously came out and said that the graphic displayed "incomplete data", but we still "gave" our 12 televoting points to Israel, so they still probably lead the televote results by a massive margin.
I just thing that Italy being a big five and having a reputation of being somewhat clumsy or disorganized were one of the very few who could have done it. And they did.
It wasn't accidental. That's just naive. RAI saw that the Israeli machine was buying up simcards and using bots to buy the contest. These results were posted as a warning to the rest of Europe. I'm sure this part explains Israel's surprisingly poor jury result .
as a dutch ESC-fan, this eurovision season has been wild. the double standards, lack of communication, and facist-like tactics to suppresses dissenting voices were absolutely shocking to witness
I guess people should have paid better attention to when Martin Osterdahl completely disregarded Romanian jury vote, took them out of the live, and he presented some made up numbers by himself. Since then Romania does not participate any more invoking lack of budget. But everybody knows it's their way of saying 'Fuck the EBU'
I cannot see what you are saying. Joost was reported to the fucking police. Did anyone else get reported? No. So where is the double standard? Get over it.
As an aussie, at first I was devastated that Australia didn't qualify for the final. Now I'm glad they missed out on this garbage fire as much as they could have.
@@Matty9Well it’s hard to top a class act like Dami Im. When we sent Voyager, I was sure we were gonna make top 5, but nah! If Electric Fields sent 2000 and Whatever from the national final back in 2020, I’m sure we would’ve totally qualified
@@nick_5791_GRso real. I couldn’t sleep at all tbh. Was checking my phone constantly at work Saturday but felt weirdly relieved when the news came to be (like, it’s over, finally!)
I'm dutch so I can tell you, public opinion is we will not be returning next year. Private broadcaster RTL ran a poll that ended up with 65% no, 28% "only if Joost represents us" and 7% yes
the booing for israel’s performance was actually loud enough to hear on tv if you had the volume up! me and my friend both heard it, but it wasn’t as loud as when martin was talking
I'm like 90% sure that they didn't expect the boos for Martin, so they didn't have their technology ready. Really similar to when the [redacted] jury came on to give their points.
@@ohmmegag5056 I was thinking that maybe it's harder to apply the technology when somebody's talking, as opposed to music and singing. But your explanation makes a lot of sense.
I heard it too!! And yet they magically "managed" to get 300+ votes and the artist from Netherlands that spoke against the singer of Israel was thrown out of the contest. And yet, nobody talked about the Israel singer making fun of the victims of Palestine. Bc yeah, she was the "victim", bc she had to be in her luxury hotel room all the time, during the contest and she got amazingly and out of nowhere votes that made Israel be at the top of Eurovision, she is the "victim" and not the kids that are dying in Palestine.
I think the finns can finally forgive us for not winning last year, because they really dodged a bullet… I do agree at least Petra kept the show together.
I am a huge Eurovision fan, but this year it made me sick. I'm Dutch and it feels like the EBU just kicked out Joost for no reason. They made him the bad guy, to make a "statement". Horrible decission.
I can't believe No Rules! was a prophetic song Even before seeing this video, all the comments I saw from the artists were filled with uneasiness. It really made me think - do I even want us to send anyone next year if this is the environment they have to deal with?
Their answers were so generic.. you wondered why even have a press conference? It’s clear they were instructed what or what not to say. Which all due respect, we should be living in free countries or so I thought we were. I would love to wacht zorra too btw. Was it in the half final?
The way he always sang something in between "this is my time. my stage / my state". And of course the "see me slay". They knew what they were doing;) The icelandic accent was only that strong for that one word.
Also the fact that the European Commission filed a report against the EBU for the banning of the European flag 🇪🇺 really escalates the situation Edit: sorry I changed my wording there hopefully most people knew what I meant 😅
It’s funny that the tasteless EBU press releases are still ongoing to this day. They are incredibly proud of all the streams this year, while the song that was the most streamed got disqualified. But of course, nothing is said about that.
In Slovenian news today: "TV Slovenia wants from the EBU precise data on how the Slovenian audience voted, as well as additional explanations regarding the exclusion of the Netherlands, the ban on EU flags, the potential influence of the sponsor on the content of the event and the meaning of the "rest of the world" vote. RTV Slovenia also calls for reflection on ways to more effectively include the opinion of EBU members in the future. In addition, the Portuguese radio and television announced that due to the arbitrary behavior of the EBU, which uploaded to the official channels a recording of the performance of their representative Iolanda from the semi-final, instead of the final performance (because she had her nails painted in the Palestinian national colors in the final), and that with a delay of almost an hour, asked the organization for an extraordinary meeting. The representatives of the broadcasters of Norway, Spain, France and Croatia are also expected to support their request."
Fantastic. Let them all never give peace to EBU until they concede to make fundamental changes to the management and rules. Also, yes, the EBU members need to be involved in major decisions.
So Portuguese radio wants the EBU to give them explanations why there were consequences to their representative... breaking the rules? What era of stupidity do we live in?
As a Dutch fan, (IMO): Don't give us the auto-qualification. Instead, AVROTROS and the Dutch Delegation should not participate in the contest until 2026 at the minimum (as a protest for this year). This year has been so traumatic, I don't think anyone wants to be part of an event like this. The disqualification of Joost and the entire situation around it caused such a painful experience and a sour taste in the mouths of the Dutch viewers. No-one knew anything until the last moments of the event and we still don't have the full story!
Think the bigger problem is: who will we send.. no one in his right mind would want to. Maybe you are right, maybe skip a few years, come back when it has settled a bit, for us, and the ebu.
@@driekeijlders281 we should sent a parody act. With a song called fuck the ebu, or as close to that as the rules allows. Yes it will probably not qualify but it is about sending a message
the fact that avrotros has given a consistent story, plus statements whereas the ebu have not given a consistent narrative nor a statement nor even bought it up, tells me everything. also like i understand bias but i also understand tone, and maas wouldn’t have said f the ebu on national tv if joosts dq was worthy of a dq.
In general, I'm sorry for the Sweden. They're good hosts, and all their effort got stumped on by EBU giving princess treatment to one specific privileged delegation
What I learned from this: 1. Eurovision has gotten very political recently (and sadly) 2. The stuff that happened with Joost Klein is total stupidity (and as a dutch I am really mad) 3. I wanna go to eurovision because it sounds so awesome 4. The italians are the ones you should listen to if you want to hear about the leaks
Recently? Eurivision was always a political shitshow. The only thing that changed is that you no longer agree with the politics. All this complains are 100% hypocritical. Especially from this youtuber lol
This is the first year I felt mentally and even physically drained, starting from thursday evening. And I'm just a random viewer sitting at home. I can't imagine how it must have been being in Malmö. I don't think people can have another edition like this... I can't grasp how they made almost all worst decisions possible making everything backfire.
Honestly same, didn't think I'd write a way longer comment under yours, but here we go. I've never felt so stressed mentally and physically after watching Esc from home and I've done it for 14 years. I was generally happy tuesday to thursday and once all the drama came to light and everything happened I couldn't stop scrolling socials for updates or focus on my life outside the bubble. I cried at one point and overthought a lot for the affected contestants and was in moral shock of Israel actually doing very well with the voting. That feeling ended up affecting other things in my life as well and my general well being. In Malmö it must've been HORRIFYING. I'm just relieved Nemo won and huge respect for all the artists who all managed to put on great performances despite the havoc and lifted my mood up even just a little bit in the final. If this also happened to anyone else, remember to take extra good care of yourselves in the time moving forward, take a deep breath, give yourself a hug and enjoy the summertime.
I know the feeling. It was a relief in the end that I didn't have a party - cos various friends were busy elsewhere, it was just me and my bf. Right up to the show, I wasn't sure it'd be on, and I was rooting for Ireland, so if they hadn't turned up, I'd have switched off there. And I'd been having a rough month, so the Eurovision S***show Contest was not the experience I was looking forward to as a relief from the pressure. Much like Silvester Belt, I wished it had ended on Tuesday. And I also felt a sadness thinking that if it was actually held in Israel, I'd have to find a new hobby for 2025. And I've been watching since I was a 90s kid, so that'd be quite a task.
Completely agree. Tuesday I enjoyed the first semi. Thursday I struggled even getting through the secon semi. I just felt this heavy negative energy weighing me down. Eurovision has been one of my biggest interests for years, and the fact that I was *not* enjoying it just made me even more sad. Then there was a shitshow going on with the NL situation and more. If not for the fact that I visited my partners who also wanted to watch it with me I might not even have bothered watching the final, it was that exhausting mentally. I'm so glad ESC is over for this year, and unless a lot change I don't know if I can keep watching it. Right now there's no part of me that wants to watch ESC itself. I am too pissed at EBU and exhausted by the drama that went down. But at the same time sad, for not being able to find joy in what I usually love.
For the record, in Switzerland they’re having a referendum next Sunday to try and prevent ESC 2025 from being organized in Basel at all. That says a lot.
That's entirely false, it was to restrict funding to it and the party who launched it is very pro-Israel. It also didn't pass, so ESC 2025 will go ahead as planned, with 40 million CHF funding.
I'm Greek and even I was traumatized by this shit 😭 the drama surrounding it completely ruined the contest for me this year. I hope the Netherlands will automatically qualify next year (if you participate that is) it's honestly so outrageous how the Dutch delegation got fucked over and the EBU didn't even do anything about Israel.
Awful. Would be a so incredibly sad if the Netherlands doesn’t take part. Was also relieved the artists all made it out in one piece - it’s clear they’ve had a nightmare.
As dust slowly settles on this edition's mess the realisation slowly sinks in. This messy season needs some kind of closure (and I don't think only about videos by creators) but as the days pass by there is less and less hope for any systemic changes in and around the contest ie. communication, politics, rules, crisis management (the lack of it) etc. Sooo - the next year(s) we may see less countries taking part and the same amount of problems (or even more).
Nah, these kinds of changes take time. It's definitely not guaranteed, but we can hope that they will happen. Plus, I'm sure the EBU won't want a shit show next year on home turf, hopefully?
Which is so sad, because this contest's sole reason was for EUROPE to COME TOGETHER!!! But enemies of our community and democracy really did a number on us all. Imagine how much suffering this all caused people across the whole of Europe. Someone did imagine this, and went through with it. To keep eurovision alive, all countries should participate next year, Israel get permanently banned (removing the Israelis from the top executives of ESC), and Morrocan oil removed as sponsor. It is the only way not for ESC to crumble.
Nothing will change as long as Moroccanoil is the main sponsor of the event. It is an Israeli company cosmetics company based in Tel Aviv, nothing to do with Morocco.
Throughout history, many countries have withdrawn from the competition. A significant number of Eastern/Southeastern European countries are not there because they know that they do not have equal treatment.
I really hope RTP (Portugal) doesn’t let this shit go. We celebrated the 50th anniversary of a revolution that took us out of a fascist government (that lasted 40 years) and gave freedom of speech just 3 weeks prior the shit show ESC was. If everyone was already on edge over the humanitarian problems, when you add the bending of rules and reality to accommodate a certain discourse, this year of all years, I really hope they give EBU hell honestly. Edit: like some commenters said bellow, it’s was a dictatorship. Sorry for the miscommunication. Unless you’re Portuguese, you probably wouldn’t figure that out. But since my comment is about freedom of speech, humanitarian problems and distortion of information, my point stands the same.
So let me get this straight. You are celebrating free speech in Portugal, and by that you are complaining that a young woman was not permitted to celebrate a totalitarian, segregationist government with a genocidal founding principle that shuts down free speech, murders homosexuals and enforces segregation, while encouraging the isolation of a democracy and the punishment of an innocent individual over it...?
Ok everyone, you’re right. Yes I didn’t explain myself well: it was a dictatorship. Our dictator was inspired by fascist regimens BUT the politics weren’t heavily race oriented. I guess this is important in the sense, even during that, Portugal was an escape route for Jews in WW2. Is that ok?
I'm glad for your summary because I can't even explain it on one go anymore there's so much shit here. The hypocrisy of zero tolerance is just ridiculous.
When AVROTROS clarified what had happened, I figured that the EBU had tried to bury the backstage problems by scapegoating Joost. Kniwing just how bad it got, and that AVROTROS' complaints preceded the DQ only strengthens that theory.
so many people have spoken out against how toxic the backstage environment is, and not just this year; S10 has recently made a statement regarding how stressful esc was for her. what gets me worried about it is this is what we see from the adult version... but what about JUNIOR eurovision? these are kids we're talking about - it breaks my heart to think about how they could be mistreated. i just hope the ebu gets all their shit together, starting with firing martin österdahl 😊
I decided pretty early on I would boycott ESC this year but after all the random bits of news I've seen I just had to come investigate what exactly went down and... Wow. EBU just decided to self-destruct, huh? I'm really struggling to see how this could be salvaged any time soon, my condolences to Switzerland for inheriting this shitshow 😬
yep, i think the ad campaign spread to the daily mail too - i don't read it ofc but i checked afterwards and they were stanning eden, lots of positive articles + interviews. the daily mail is not usually a paper that likes esc
And what makes you think all those who tried to tactically vote against that specific country are true Eurovision fans? Like as if you even need "advertising" to hate on them?
In Finland all the vocal alt-right & conservative Christian politicians posted massive pro-Isr recommendations to vote. The most popular explanations were: 1) fck the lefties, 2) fck the woke 3) poor Isr. "I've never watched ESC, but now I MUST vote." It was massive campaign. CONGRATS to Nemo, Baby Lasagna, Jerry Hall & Alyona Alyona, Slimane, Bambie Thug, Angelina Mango, Ladaniva, Marcus & Martinus & Iolanda. And Joost!
@@didaididai207 Yes, they would normally be saying that the ESC is an outrageous waste of hard-working taxpayers' money, by Jove, and to scrap the BBC licence.
Yes, the ha mas propaganda ministry is ready to reward him for his excellent work in the Eurovision community. If he keeps working like that, he might share the biggest prize one day with Al Jazeera.
I also want to mention all the hate that Silvester got by everyone because of his statement. Every single post that was mentioned about him since mentioned how he " had only said this because he wanted a better result." And "he got a taste of his own medicine" but if he wanted a better result, then WHY DID HE SAY HE WISHED IT ENDED AT THE SEMIS??????? So many artists suffered this year. None of them deserved this.... I hope there are some DRASTIC changes to the contest so that it can live on....
I agree. The army should have been sent to remove all the "protesters" that were threatening security everywhere. And the jeering public should've been removed from the semi-finals onward. Sylvester shouldn't have to have paid for their virtue signalling, nor any of the other contestants who were drawn into the drama by the handful of jerks who couldn't behave like adults.
He came 10th with the public, so these losers who're accusing him of being a cry baby and bitter about his results probably don't even know his actual placements. Also, this person's logic is lacking because if he is bitter about his results, then why does he wish to have stayed in the semi? But there's many trolls and bots out there. No, he just felt uncomfortable with getting on stage after Israel, with boos still audible before he entered it.
13:04 My theory at the time was the Italian delegation telling her to do this to distract, as the EBU weren’t particularly happy with RAI’s reveal of the televote results.
The destruction was made by a portion of the fandom most of which did it for Tik-Tok likes and nothing else. Most those fans exclaiming from the river... and genocide don't know what river , what sea, where is all of that on a map and what the word genocide even means. Nor do they understand the politics, military tactics and geo-strategy behind it all. The proof is easy, just a few months ago Azerbaijan expelled the whole Armenian population of the Qarabagh - 150k people and there wasn't a squeak in the 2nd semi-final when they performed. Probably wasn't on Tik-Tok trends. Those fakes about Israel's involvement in the Joost Kleine debacle also came from Social media and Tik-Tok. My suggestion is before you go crazy because of a Tik-Tok trends research the subject properly from all sides. Also understand that nothing trends on Tik-Tok without the approval of the Chinese Communist Party , one of the most repressive entities on earth and with world-wide geopolitical ambitions. Also understand the booing as part of a crowd or spreading Tik-Tok trends isn't courage. Courage is when you are ready to face consequences like going to actual warzones to distribute aid.
As a Swedish citizen, EBU wasn’t the problem this year and neither Israel. It was the Europeans and ESC community who basically stormed into our country and created chaos. Full of hate. Everyone (including the artists) knew exactly what they signed up for. They knew it before they went to Malmö, and we all knew that it wouldn’t change. Still both artists and fans travelled to Malmö. Artists broke the rules of the competition several times and STILL, they were allowed to be part of the competition. If there’s one thing I’m sceptical about with EBU, then it’s that they weren’t stricter and gave artists consequences. These artists don’t even care about the problem. Because WHY would they want to be part of a song contest that’s organised by EBU? When they’re claiming that organisation “support genocide & violated human rights”? WHY do the artists want to use Eurovision’s platforms to market themselves by showing their faces on their social media platforms? Why do they want people to vote for them to win, as the money is going to EBU? I said it day 1 and I still say it. These artists don’t care about the issue, they capitalised the issue for their own gain. In the same way they’re capitalising on getting marketing on Eurovision’s big platforms. They care about their image, nothing else.
@@williamdfr1715if they continue the same it’s the beginning of the end,,it’s a I don’t see, hear or see. It’s ALL of those OTHER countries fault. It’s not me… no ofcourse not. Even though many of those countries such as the Netherlands, UK, all held the Eurovision without these issues
Käärijä was another victim of secret filming and a clip of him dancing near Eden Golan was posted on her IG. Käärijä had to repeatedly ask for it to be removed, until it was finally taken off the page.
They they attempted to say he was dancing with Eden to push their agenda when that wasn't the fact at all and he request it got deleted and they didn't
You have no idea how much it hurt to watch the final as a Dutch fan, all the jokes were not landing. Then that awful EBU song praising Martin Boo-his-face came on. I literally got a bad stomache ache from watching the finals, it hurts that much. For the first time in a long time the Netherlands basically 100% stood behind their entry. We ARE so proud of Joost and we were extremely excited to see him in the final. And they took it from him, us and all the fans too without any transparency. AT THIS TIME with the info we currently have, it still feels like it's something that could've been handled backstage with a apology from both sides. And I rather not talk about the Israel Palestine situation, but I'm gonna do it anyway. I think both sides have flaws, but I can 100% agree that Israel should've not been at Eurovision. And the way they behaved was absolutely disgusting.
I still cant watch Joost’s performance now, because it hurts so bad.. but I will get over it when justice is done. I will be fine. For now, Im streaming on Spotify his song continuesly 😊to support him. He is our baby💙
German neighbour here. I'm still so shocked and so sorry for you in NL! And for Joost, oc! I'm still in love with ,,Europapa", I'm still listening to it. I was 100% sure he would win this thing. I honestly believe there was something going on. Maybe someone who payed the camera woman to keep filming Joost ... Idk. Something feels off. The disqualification felt/feels so wrong. I really hope there will be justice. However it will turn out. Sorry for my english btw. I was rooting for NL and I wish you and Joost the best ❤
I think Joost was getting too big. The Israeli delegation did everything they could to get him out. Probably the biggest concurrent in their eyes. (Keren Peles) got the job to do so.
After a week has past I must say, that beside all that shitstorm: songwise 2024 was maybe the best year ever. And the performances had been incredible good.
@@MultiSky7Martin signed that sponsorship contract in 2020 and put the ESC "no-politics policy" in the hands of an isreali company and EBU's independence down the drain. It's a conflict of interest to have as a general sponsor a company from one of the participating countries, especiall from one that's famous for meddling in every aspect of life and furthering their political interest by all available means.
I've been watching Eurovision since I was a child and this contest has given me so much joy and hope. I'm not exaggerating when I say that some days, the only thing that kept me going was knowing that Eurovision would be in a few weeks and that I have something to look forward to and to keep going for. But this year... I can't explain it in any other way than my heart breaking in real time. It may sound a little naive, but it felt like the moment you realise that adults are anything but perfect and that you'll never be able to fully trust again (I know, never trust coorporations, lesson learned). I just don't think I'll ever be able to watch the contest with the same joy again, especially not if the EBU fails to clean up the mess that they have produced. I originally planned to go to next year's edition for the first time ever, but at this point I'm not even sure if I'm going to watch it
I fully support everything written. I will never again feel the genuine excitement that happened during the voting. Now I know that the result is pre-arranged and that political games are destroying the essence of this competition. I'm so sorry, because it was one of my favorite things. Now, unfortunately, only a bitter memory.
Just the fact alone that people have felt drained instead of energized after the ESC tells us how the experience was, even if we'd struggle finding words for it.
My summary of this year’s Eurovision is: fuck the EBU, but viva Rai 2. When that televote result came out, I was in Euroclub, having dipped in and out of the press centre that week and witnessed (and heard anecdotally) some awful shit. That was when I realised that was enough for one ridiculous year. I took that early flight that you contemplated because I’ve learned to put my own mental sanity first as a neurodivergent person, and it was so difficult and sad to watch the safe space I’d been so proud to have been a part of since I was 7 years old turn into the epicentre of an international crisis. I’m not a conflict journalist, I do this for fun out of my own pocket. With any hope, there will be reprisals for this utter cockup. Maybe Netflix could commission a documentary. “Surviving Malmö: A Week in Eurotrash”. Or something to that degree. I have stories, I’m sure many people do, not to mention the artists and delegations who were affected. Does anyone have any production / journalist contacts?
It would've been my first Eurovision on location. I stayed home. I'd definitely read a book of collected experiences of this years ESC, or maybe a master thesis...
@@marcopolo1528 Sorry, didn’t make that clear: I’m thanking Rai 2 for publishing the results and basically becoming kingmakers. Probably should’ve uncapitalised the “Viva” to make it more obvious - I love Rai 2 and Viva Rai 2 is one of the most oddly hilarious things I’ve ever seen 😂
I totally agree with Norwegian media, this year's contest was a shitshow and I didn't even watch it. Thanks for all the extra info from behind the scenes.
My Malmo experience was bad enough because I was rather ill throughout the whole week. Add to this that everything Gabe says here is TRUE! All of what he says was already verified for me by various people who were present behind the scenes and in the Press Centre. Then, as I was entering the Arena on the Saturday evening, wearing my Croatia hoodie, a guy with a Press Accreditation came up to me and said “I hope you guys wins tonight” referring to Baby Lasagna. I responded “with any luck”. He then said to me “why do you say “with any luck?” I responded “because there is a major effort across the world to gerrymander the vote for Israel”. It then occurred to me that the guy was part of the Israeli delegation or Press and he went mental calling me “anti-Semitic” and “outrageous liar”. What I was saying was the truth then and we know it to be the truth now. I quickly moved away from this maniac as he bounced around like an angry tigger. I was nervous that I might be targeted by security and removed. It totally soured my week in Malmo, but it was a very fitting and appropriate end to the worst Eurovision I have ever attended (of the 18 I have been to). I was also told that the Israeli delegation was secretly recording conversations with other delegates (possibly the interaction I had to suffer too) so that they could play the victim card if they needed to. A wholly scandalous mismanagement by the EBU and the spotlight seeking Martin Osterdahl. What the eff was going on? Who was so lily-livered that they could not make the right decisions and throw our favourite contest to the dogs?
@@macalauresmuse honestly no clue. haven't really involved myself in the festival since 2021 because of israels involvement and i also boycotted this year. if that's true then that's tragically ironic

@@Adam-zw5sqBecause having as a general sponsor a company from one of the participating countries means conflict of interest. Being bound by a 5 year contract with that company means having to mind what they dictate or at least do what they expect. If that company is from Israel - which Moroccanoil is - the equation is writing itself. EBUs hands were tied this year due to their own stupidity to walk into this contract in 2020, that's why they couldn't suspend Israel from participating this year. The consequences are here and Mr Ö has some leaving to do, and the EBU management needs to reform the rules and never again have a general sponsor (at least not from any participating country), but many small ones from different countries.
Great work putting all of the information in one neat video! Having to sift through posts, many of which were inaccurate, on the day of it all happening was hectic to say the least.
Not protecting creative people that are quite often neurodivergent and traumatized. Is a thing we should really look into. Cancelling people for single misstakes where there is no pattern in that behavior is simply a step too far.
It goes beyond Joost, they allowed all of the artists and press to get bullied by one countries delegation. The delegation clearly wanted Joost banned and they found a way to do it. And if they would’ve let what happened with Joost slide they would’ve tried to find another way to get him out.
I was in the audience during the dress rehearsal on Saturday and up to date with the different news as they came in. You describe the chaos and the uncomfortable mood perfectly, I am glad the audience feeling transfered to the press room. Previous ESCs I went happily and really motivated, excited for the show. This year I wanted it to be over before I even stepped a foot out of my accommodation. Before the show someone waved around a Dutch flag and it got the audience cheering. My personal heros were the people down on the floor before the stage that got Palestinian flags and waved them during Israel's performance, during which we had a deeply mixed audience reaction, I was surrounded by boos, cold silence and clapping. It was deeply uncomfortable. Watching Nemo win was sadly more relief than celebration. I deeply hope the EBU gets it together SOON, because while I love the ESC, I am also part of the LGBTQAI+ community and I cannot tolerate the treatment so many artists suffered through this year.
I got Eurovision tickets as my 18th birthday present, it was my biggest dream to go since I was a child and I finnaly managed to go for the very first time- Dont know if I ruined it permanently for myself, but I dont exactly regret my sf1 afternoon and sf2 afternoon tickets either. Im a weird limbo of disgusted by the ebu but also so enamored by the effort put in by the artists- Seeing Estonia live right by the barrier while standing legit healed me- But other stuff during sf2 were definitely well.. There was booing, there was screaming, arguable I only heard the commotion as I was at the very front of the crowd, but as I read in the news shit went down behind me, but man was it uh.. wild..? There was definitely an air of nervousness during that day compared to sf1 and although its not super related- I will never forget walking out of the arena after sf2 alone and trying to meet my mom who was shopping in the emporia mall while I was inside- And hearing the mall evacuation alarm before I could even approach the building. Honestly, most Dutch fans I talked to and have seen online want the Netherlands to withdraw from Eurovision for at LEAST one year. More if the EBU doesn't change enough. NL have been participants in the contest from the very start and Eurovision is generally very popular here, but what happened to Joost has really left a deep wound that won't heal easily. I'm sure people from other countries would feel the same if it had happened to their entry. Especially when that entry was hugely popular, like Joost's. I didn't watch the final at all, btw. Couldn't. Only saw some clips of the public booing Osterdahl online. That felt good, but no real consolation, of course.
Disqualifying Joost was a bloody shame. It left a bitter taste for all of us, all over Europe. As for the rest of the ESC 2024 -- in my opinion, when an organization violates its own rules, it deserves a general boycott by all members. They showed us money is above all 'European values'. And let us not forget, the viewers paid a lot of money for the privilege of voting.

Me and my family boycotted eurovision 2024 as part of our general support of Palestine. I'm pretty glad I never watched it now, hearing how utterly atrociously it went. I feel awful for all the talented people who were supposed to be performing for the joy of making music for the world, whose experience was totally soured by Israel. From the river to the sea, may Israel never again make top 3.

Hopefully, with the number of complaints rising (especially the recent one by RTVSLO) you will soon be able to make a much brighter recap of even more recent events.
i got that yt ad israel did for their entry and it was so weird bc they never mention during the ad what country it is, just "support this song! vote this number!" very weird
Tbh the most reasonable way to handle the whole joost Situation wouldve been to let him participate and do the investigation afterwards... Like this, he didn't even get a chance to prove his innocence and was punished right away. If theyd ended up finding something thats wrong, they could've disqualified him afterwards, but like this, there simply was no reasoning for any action taken whatsoever
Great video, it is so much worse than even imagined, thank you for sharing your experience and for having had the courage to stay there until the end of the song contest.
I don't get how everyone was punished, had things taken from them, all these restrictions, allowed to be disrespected, not supported, "held accountable" for the most mild things, they just were treated awfully and with such disregard from the organisation. Meanwhile the people bullying, harassing, mocking, invading, being bigoted towards everyone and causing issues, the very same people who no one wanted to be there and did not support. They got free reins and were allowed to do whatever they wanted without consequence? That goes from wanting to avoid being political/unfair, to seeming like you have chosen a side
Wow, even more of a mess than I imagined. Thank you so much for making this video. It sounds like it was a terrible experience for so many people, and makes the disqualification of the Netherlands even harder to justify.

I completely concur, RAI was warning everyone
I said the same thing the moment I saw it! that was a warning

Plus, I'm sure the EBU won't want a shit show next year on home turf, hopefully?
or the change could be, for example, the change of the general sponsor
The ONLY way of change, is if we the people, say we want one. Either we boycot, and countries should really think hard if it’s even worth it.

Absolutly brillant video. EBU is rotten to the core. They can join the IBA, FIFA and the IOC. Money has destroyed them all...
Don’t forget about the FIA
23:07 Thank you for acknowledging Joost as a neurodivergent. Something one country is trying to mock at. Ableists!
It's just so jarring to see the Ebu destroy the contest we love.
Hard fact : it's the EBU's product. They can do what they like with it and you can decide to stop watching

For the first time in a long time the Netherlands basically 100% stood behind their entry. We ARE so proud of Joost and we were extremely excited to see him in the final. And they took it from him, us and all the fans too without any transparency.
Being bound by a 5 year contract with that company means having to mind what they dictate or at least do what they expect. EBUs hands were tied this year due to their own stupidity to walk into this contract in 2020, that's why they couldn't suspend Israel from participating this year. Why would I be a bot lmao.
Even listening to all of this makes me feel anxious.

Dont know if I ruined it permanently for myself, but I dont exactly regret my sf1 afternoon and sf2 afternoon tickets either.
I hate that my mind immediately jumped to the worst possiible case scenario that I might never see her again.
