I grew up in my mom’s car, bumming food and showers from friends and relatives. I was cold and sick a lot when I was a kid so now, every time I see a pretty blanket, I buy it. Ninety eleven blankets later and I’m officially a hoarder. It’s so difficult to break that mindset. I’m working on it every single day. Thank you for the great inspiration!

I'm so sorry you had it rough like that. I grew up between homes of divorced parents and then whatever homes they lived in or the spouses of theirs they remarried and it wasn't until I finally bought my own home at almost 30 that I was secure.....but suddenly I had SO MUCH STUFF. I guess I had just drug my things with me through the years or stored them between failed relationships and moves of my own or my parents's. Now I'm at a state where my stuff that used to give me security and was a bandaid and made me feel good to have, are a stressor for me and bring anxiety bc I'm drowning in THINGS. I'm 31 now going through all this. My partner told me something that resonated for me, was "someone else would think _____ is pretty too". In response to my lamenting over how I felt about the things I was struggling to let go. And the thought that they won't be garbage but possibly treasures to someone else too has helped A LOT! Donate donate donate. Or keep some blankets with you and give them to homeless ppl you come across! Perhaps they are cold too! I wish you luck darling! I know your comment is old but I hope you've been able to let go of some.

@@user-sl8dg8ph9vI’m 31 also and going through the same struggles. I have finally slowed my shopping but the things are piled up I just can’t even seem to make sense of why my house looks this way. Great advice on saying maybe the homeless people are cold too, they would seriously appreciate a warm blanket or even dogs at a dog shelter 😢 breaking that habit is hard but must be done to stop things from entering into the home otherwise it will constantly be this way. Hang in there we can get through this

ive found that cleaning with a friend or just another person in general helps because they can kind of help you talk yourself through the process. i dont know if i have the start of a hoarding disorder or if its just other factors, but ill gain emotional attatchments to so many of my things, including trash, and so cleaning with my friend helps ground me to the reality that "hey, thats literally trash, you dont need it"

Wow, what you said about deprogramming your mind makes total sense, Ms. Heart. Also, can I just say your chapter in Women Who Shine is so well written! And it's no wonder you had PTSD after what you experienced with your ex. I'm so glad you got out of that situation ok. Yes, even if you take 15 minutes on a shelf and 15 minutes the next day, it is getting better. Then, all that time looking for a lighter, looking for a battery, can be used to organize another drawer. The time it takes gets less, because you start to not keep things you don't need.

I can definitely see, hear that in your voice, video. I know for a fact that I am older than you but, when I grow up I want to have those amazing attributes that, I see in you. Also, nobody declutters and organizes once and it's done forever. It does get easier to do the more you do it though. As Ms. Heart has proven repeatedly, her decluttering muscles strengthen each time she does it. She's fierce, like the Ronda Rousey of decluttering.

I did the whole house clean and declutter over the summer break. Oh my goodness at the stuff I donated and junk I tossed out! Now I need bookcases for all my books. LOL I cheated and fixed one cheap Sauder bookcase and need hubby to fix the other one. But I will still need a large bookcase from Ikea to empty all those boxes! Yes, I am an avid reader. It has been so nice having the house back and it not be cluttered mess with just pathways to walk through. It was so freeing. I have stuff that needs to go to the shed (more like a personal storage unit than a shed), but I need to declutter it as well first because I know there is stuff in there that needs to go!

December 2023. I have lots of craft supplies. Each craft has a plastic shoebox. The few instruction books I keep are on 2 shelves. I can always get more
supplies, or find more instructions, but I have enough to start. When I see a brown paper bag, I think of a weaving project. When I see string, I think macrame.

You are doing great! I use to be really organized but after my mom died and my vacuum broke, depression hit and now the mess is overwhelming. I have organized my bathroom several times but it seems like it gets messed up right away. Frustrating. I know I can do it. My biggest problem is lack of storage. I only have 3 small closets, one in each bedroom. I don't have a place to put my coats except on the wall in the hallway. My towels and linens are on an open shelf in another hallway. My food is on the counter because the cupboards are so small there isn't a shelf in them. I know that I need to get rid of stuff and I'm slowly doing it. Thanks for your videos. I know that all of the above are just excuses but they feel like they are real problems. I wish I had a friend to help me but there isn't one. I know that this is long and I thank you for allowing me to post here.

💚 I can understand that you miss your Mom, and the love and good feeling she gave to you... If you can learn to give this feeling to yourself, and to talk to yourself with your inner voice and tell yourself all the beautiful things your Mom said to you, then you will feel that your mother is still in your heart. What your mother wished for, is that you love yourself, that you feel worthy and that you have a wonderful life 💚

I don't just keep the voice in my head - I say it out loud each time. I like to say "I'm ok with letting this go" when I hold each item, even pieces of paper. I find it helps make the decision seem strong, and very final. Then I feel better knowing that I made the decision. As soon as I hesitate with saying it out loud, or if I start to say "oh, I remember the day I got this/went here/wore this", I know I'm not ready to let it go yet and I set it aside with the thought that I will revisit that item at a later time, and see how I feel about it then.

Wonderful video, Ms. Heart! I have been on a personal improvement journey myself, and I was wondering if you have tried any changes to your diet to see if it helps you heal? For instance, blueberries, strawberries, for the brain and walnuts for gut and anti inflammation? Lol, well at least that’s what I’ve been trying! And you know, over time, eating nutritious foods daily, I think there has been a difference! I know you are a busy, busy lady, but I would love a video (or series!) on whatever habits you might be testing to improve your mental well-being… not weight loss or anything like that, but self care. And you know, someone should write a poem in tribute to your new tidy cupboard under the sink. It is beautiful!! 📜

I know most people say not to declutter other people's stuff, but she is beginning to show signs of dementia and it is getting worse every day... and she is... I wouldn't say hoarder, but... close. I feel so guilty that I want to get rid of her stuff, but me and my husband will be living here for the long haul, and we have to have a space, ya know? Every room is full of stuff that hasn't been used in years, but she thinks in her head that she used it last week or that we will be having big family dinners in the future like we used to in the past...

This was such a motivational video. Thank you! Do you have a set day of the week that you tackle your basement? I find that I’m quick to do my smaller projects, but put off the bigger one. Wondering if you actually schedule your time in basement to a particular day of the week and wanted to try what you’re doing in there for my bigger project. Like you, I work full time, so I was curious how you work it. You are such a sweet, kind hearted person, and I just love watching your videos. You really are amazing!

You did a great job with the drawer! Have you considered labeling your individual containers in the drawer so that way everyone in your family knows what goes where? Dawn from the Minimal Mom recommends labeling drawers. You’re doing awesome with your decluttering and organizing.

I'm still fascinated by the amount of cleaners that you have. Do you need all of them, isn't a multipurpouse a possible solution? And better for the environmental too? Just asking!

But most mega last, so, mentally, hard to dump. And, they will always be needed, not like an item that is never needed that is easier to toss.

I’m sure there is and that would be my next step! I have some. Environmental friendly products! Holding onto the cleaners I still have is still a security blanket for my anxiety. Especially in case the shelves go empty again ❤️🙏🏻❤️

@@ahoardersheart What I meant is, you could finish them up and replace a couple of them with just one product. I wouldn't suggest getting rid of full products just to buy new ones

@@leyrotis If she finds one or two that are all purpose she could stock up on just those when the others are gone, if she is worried about lock downs. And in time will realize two types are good enough :)

I am in awe of your achievements:) You're home looks very lovely and I can only imagine how pleased you are with yourself. I am probably on the other side of the spectrum of hoarding because when I grew up and moved out of my parents home my mother has packed everything to the gill. No disrespect, it's just very sad that she and my Dad are living in that everyday.

Know that you are doing amazing at any pace you take! I know how it feels to have emotional attachments to so many things! Another great tool is “JOLT” Just One Little Thing! Each day just let go of one little thing! I count paper clips, pieces of paper, any item you are not attached to. Feel good that you let go of that item! Know that you were so strong to make that decision! What it does is create a habit of Decluttering without feeling anxious or depressed! I know this tool will help you ❤️🙏🏻❤️
