I dont mean to be so off topic but does anyone know a way to get back into an instagram account? I somehow forgot the password. I love any tricks you can offer me
I like how the GDQ gamers (for the most part) just enjoy running the games. Even when presented with terrible RNG, they keep the run going, keep cheerful, and try to make things enjoyable for the viewers. I imagine if someone like myself was playing this game and trying to get the unicorn to do a specific thing and failed time and time again, I would rage-quit "BECAUSE F*** THIS GAME!!!" But Grimelios and other GDQ players very rarely go into gamer-rage, which is awesome. It's hard to take repeated fails in good stride, but these people do it so well, and for charity as well, so that's really cool. I've seen some videos from past GDQs that involved some yelling and/or cursing from people getting salty about the game or the crowd or the people on the couch, but from what I have watched, most of the people at these events are pretty awesome.
When I was watching this stream and heard " 2-D dark souls" I immediately stopped the stream and bought it on steam. Have 5+ hours into it and still loving it
After finishing it this was definitely one of my favorites runs of all AGDQs, the unicorns at the end were hilarious. I just booted up my copy of S+S on PS4 and had a nice update, I wonder how much of it was to fix this stuff?
esbeekay I hope they wouldn't fix this stuff. This glitches for the most part are too hard to actually find on your own unless you are looking for them and it would ruin the speed running community.
Well, if you're wrong, you get a Peter Gabriel song, if I'm wrong, I get fight clubbed. And as beautiful as I am, an Edward Norton might want to destroy me.
41:05 Magic is really overpowered, period. Seriously, I only beat this game once, while doing "Magic Only" challenge. If you ignore the first... 5 or so minutes of pure torture (seriously, at first it looks like it's impossible), once you find all the needed rings, and some spells... well, you become pretty much unstoppable. Easiest challenge of my life is what I'm trying to say. I've never managed to beat it as a melee char, though.
Did you play the original release dragon fire in that was hilarious you could one shot almost every boss with it? i found melee to be more fun and it also can get very over powered.
I remember the first time I met Corsejaw as a mage character and just melted his face before he could do anything. I also had no trouble with the spindle beasts at all. I didn't know how difficult those encounters can be until I made a dex character who couldn't just smash and burn his way through the world.
So... I have just completed the game with a str. character. And by "str. character" I mean I had the Obsidian Pillar that I... planned on transmuting to the Trinity Scepter, but... accidentally killed every single alchemist in the world... woops! So it was more of a "base damage" character. Anyway, I take it back - magic is NOT the most OP thing in this game. Haven't touched dex yet.
I never beat this game until the other day, I got it when it came out and I just got too frustrated and stopped playing. but this run made me pick up the game again and I finally managed to beat it. I'm really happy I did. just wish I hadn't screwed up the defilement creed by not having a bloody writ when I talked to the person. cuz apparently you can't get one if you talk to them first without one.
Dang this run was recommended right after Momodora, where there was also a frame perfect roll jump trick, but HalfC had to actually push both buttons at the same time, and not just rebind them to the same button. Still tons of skill in the rest of this run and I'm not opposed to rebinding keys as a speed strat, it's just an interesting comparison.
Is the tree of men really supposed to be difficult? Because I had an easy time on that boss. You literally get invincibility frames when you're in the climbing animation, you can abuse the hell out of that casually, and it wasn't hard to notice you get those frames. :/
In haggar's cave, you need to kill the boss with the gun and the sword to progress. When you're leaving haggar's cave with (I wanna say the spiked key) the area before that door has a ledge with a chest. If you drop down off that ledge and hug the wall you'll only take half your health in damage and you can get to the boss early. ( I couldn't find how to get there normally. )
Is it just me or those glitched runs feel weird? For me, it's the same thing as using debug mode on a MD Sonic to beat the game in a whiz. Would love to see more glitchless runs, even on any%.
This game is bringing back forgotten memories of some Xbox Live arcade game. Like the art style is EXACTLY the same. something about a dishwasher i Think?
Two years late, but the candles symbolize how many times the boss has been beaten recently. If you see a candelabra with full candles, you're in for an easy time. But with one or no candles lit, good fucking luck. That said, outside of every boss arena, you can usually see how many and which players were killed by a given boss.
Pffhhahaha I figured they'd have patched out all this shit by now. I remember having loads of fun finding sequence breaks with the ladder trick and long jumps, fighting Witch as 1st boss, etc. I took a break and never went back to the game because I thought the patches would've taken away all this stuff with patches. Seeing this makes me want to give it a try again. And I never knew about using the ladder to get back to the starting boat.
It may also depend on your build. The tree has no strike resist but high slash resist (during second phase). So using a hammer over a sword could be the difference between the taking 10 hits and 35. On top of that, certain weapon types (such as spears and daggers) have a very hard time hitting the hanging men.
Fun fact: I did an Any% run of this game on PS4 without knowing that PC rebinds the keys to make it easier, learned that just now. All Bosses is virtually impossible on PS4, but everything else is just a pain. The run was like 18 minutes because at one point I had to go back to my notes and figure out what to do
Random Number Generator, if I recall correctly. It's the way in which a game triggers "random" outcomes. It's like rolling a die. Getting "good rng" is basically getting good luck. Hence "He isn't doing anything wrong, it's just bad RNG".
Good explanation, small addendum: There are games where you can influence what the RNG will do at crucial moments, that is called RNG manipulation. That is not often possible, but sometimes to great effect. This is part of the reason speed-runners actually speak of RNG and not just of luck, because sometimes you can bend it to your needs.
Eh, Unspeakable Deep is not actually hard to kill. All its attacks are telegraphed and easy to dodge, it just takes a long time once you get a hold of the timing.
I didn't claim it's doable. I said it's easy. Hell, it's actually the easiest boss in game as far as I am concerned. The attacks are slow and telegraphed beyond all reason, they're banal to dodge. Sure, he always oneshots and takes a few boring minutes to kill... but so what? You will never get hit unless it's your first run or you're panicked, and the payoff is well worth the time spent.
yes. yes witch of the lake. Only worse in ng+. Wouldn't be a true playthrough without dying at this point. This boss is the embodiment of everything wrong with the bosses in S&S
gotta stay under her, when she floats down to your level shes gonna melee. Don't even bother trying to sneak in some hits as if your hit and knocked down chances are she'll follow up with a missile barrage on you while your still floored. But yea she is a rng pain in the ass. Imo on the first play thru u can avoid her long enough to get a high level and good gear, but she and haeger (disemboweled husk) are probably the worst ( that gun attack is just plain stupid).
The long jump isn't frame perfect. Figured it out and used it a lot on the PS4. Jaws of death aren't really end game, you get them pretty quickly. First boss is easy to kill your first try if you've ever played souls games and beaten them.
What the hell was that ladder glitch ... did you just skip the whole game?! I just want to see these games done fast, but mostly in the ways they were intended to be played ... 🏃
"If you wanted proof that this game actually is difficult, here it is." He says while fighting Carsejaw the Cruel, who is actually among the easiest bosses in a casual run.
The only issue I have with the game is its really, really poor balancing. Magic, greathammers and the jaws are just so much more potent than anything else in the game. There are so many cool and interesting weapons that you sadly never use unless you want to gimp yourself. Oh, also there's nothing to spend your money on other than buff items and calling horns, unless your really want that golden axe I guess. But I found myself just not caring about gold pretty quickly in my runs.
what bugs man? there are very few if any, what the runner is doing is that he's using exploits, you won't encounter any of this in a normal playthrough.
"If you decide to run this game, may God have mercy on your soul." Truer words never spoken, Grim.
I dont mean to be so off topic but does anyone know a way to get back into an instagram account?
I somehow forgot the password. I love any tricks you can offer me
Est. Time: unicorns
I believe they are land narwhals, only narwhals can wield such deadly power.
Introductions: 9:02
Countdown: 9:32
thanks for the shortcut
I love when the time objective becomes "unicorns" on the any% run XD
I searched "gdq salt and sanctuary" specifically. Not disappointed at all
One of my favorite runs this year! Great job Grim!
I like how the GDQ gamers (for the most part) just enjoy running the games. Even when presented with terrible RNG, they keep the run going, keep cheerful, and try to make things enjoyable for the viewers. When I was watching this stream and heard " 2-D dark souls" I immediately stopped the stream and bought it on steam. Have 5+ hours into it and still loving it
These guys were great and even though the Any% didn't go quite as planned, it was hilarious to watch. Thanks Grimelios!
Excellent run! I had a blast platinuming the game during my LP of it when it fist came out last year and it was fun watching this speed run.
Awesome run, really enjoyed watching!!
The any% run was so funny to watch!!
Amazing runs ! GG and thanks, very entertaining runner !
Jesus, imagine being so good that you can loose 2 minutes on the first boss and rebind controls and still come in 3 minutes under estimate.
Well, I have noticed a trend of them usually giving a generous overestimation at gdq to account for disasters like large time losses
11:25 I have to go now. My planet needs me.
really enjoyed those runs.
Cool run, great commentary
Ooohhh yessss! I can see the evil in your eyes! But you know... my Undertaker will DESTROY HIM AT SUMMERSLAM!
OOOOH MY GOODNESS! DID YOU HEAR THAT?!
the time and effort these guys put into this stuff is admirable this is really impressive cuz this game is hard AF to me lol
Awesome!! i didn't know this was going on right now.
Really cool run, good commentary and all. GG
Thank you :)
Great game! I'm excited to watch this run, and good luck to all the runners!
After finishing it this was definitely one of my favorites runs of all AGDQs, the unicorns at the end were hilarious. I just booted up my copy of S+S on PS4 and had a nice update, I wonder how much of it was to fix this stuff?
esbeekay did you notice at the end the estimated time Changed to estimated time: unicorns
esbeekay I hope they wouldn't fix this stuff. This glitches for the most part are too hard to actually find on your own unless you are looking for them and it would ruin the speed running community.
Cody Turner I did, I loved that part!!
Kyle Lussier well the patch was on PS4 and I thought I heard him say that ladder glitch didn't work on PS4
That unicorn bit at the end was hilarious XD
So much for an any% world record though...
Those land narwhals really don't like to help speedrunners.
love this game and all ska studios other games. i love to see a dishwasher speedrun sometime
Very entertaining run. I didn't know Edward Norton was into speedrunning... got a new fan
Pretty sure that's John Cusack.
Well, if you're wrong, you get a Peter Gabriel song, if I'm wrong, I get fight clubbed. And as beautiful as I am, an Edward Norton might want to destroy me.
I like to make the 6 million dollar man noise with every ladder clip. shananananananananaa!
How the chungus do you even begin to route this run let alone memorize it? I can barely remember how long to microwave fucking beefaroni.
they're so talented XD
41:05 Magic is really overpowered, period. Seriously, I only beat this game once, while doing "Magic Only" challenge. Easiest challenge of my life is what I'm trying to say. I've never managed to beat it as a melee char, though.
Imma Getcha It's all about dodging and stamina management as a melee character.
i played as thief and used knives only and did fine, i feel like the difficulty is overhyped
Did you play the original release dragon fire in that was hilarious you could one shot almost every boss with it? i found melee to be more fun and it also can get very over powered.
I remember the first time I met Corsejaw as a mage character and just melted his face before he could do anything.

Anyway, I take it back - magic is NOT the most OP thing in this game.
Haven't touched dex yet.
58 hours it took me to beat every boss all brands and most weapons watching you and lobos i can only say my god
played close to 20 hrs and realized I'm not even half way....
omg I missed some bosses completely in my first playthrough. time to get back into this game
Its odd that of all bosses that could be run killers...it's Carsejaw
I have the same nickname for Witch Mercy in Overwatch. At least while the event is life.
xD I lost my sh*t when I saw they changed est. time to unicorns xDDD goddamnit xD
I never beat this game until the other day, I got it when it came out and I just got too frustrated and stopped playing. but this run made me pick up the game again and I finally managed to beat it. I'm really happy I did. just wish I hadn't screwed up the defilement creed by not having a bloody writ when I talked to the person. cuz apparently you can't get one if you talk to them first without one.
the jumping trick is gone. Cant do it on pc.
This game is great go buy it.
And here I thought Jaws were OP when I got them late game, let alone at the start
How did you jump like that ..??
Dang this run was recommended right after Momodora, where there was also a frame perfect roll jump trick, but HalfC had to actually push both buttons at the same time, and not just rebind them to the same button.
Still tons of skill in the rest of this run and I'm not opposed to rebinding keys as a speed strat, it's just an interesting comparison.
took me 57 hours to beat all bosses casually
He beat the game in the time a normal run takes me to get to the Sunken Deep ,,,
Is the tree of men really supposed to be difficult? Because I had an easy time on that boss. You literally get invincibility frames when you're in the climbing animation, you can abuse the hell out of that casually, and it wasn't hard to notice you get those frames. :/
So I thought I found a really cool trick, and I came to see if speedrunners needed it. You clearly don't...
What is it? I'm curious.
In haggar's cave, you need to kill the boss with the gun and the sword to progress. omg I played this game. To bad I never got to the second boss 😠
Is it just me or those glitched runs feel weird? For me, it's the same thing as using debug mode on a MD Sonic to beat the game in a whiz. Would love to see more glitchless runs, even on any%.
9:32 you're welcome
This game is bringing back forgotten memories of some Xbox Live arcade game. Like the art style is EXACTLY the same. something about a dishwasher i Think?
Do candles on the chandelier before the boss sybolyse how many bosses are left? If so, u didnt kill 1 boss
Two years late, but the candles symbolize how many times the boss has been beaten recently. If you see a candelabra with full candles, you're in for an easy time. But with one or no candles lit, good fucking luck.

Is he playing on keyboard or controller?
Headbanging groupies @ 36:30 ish
Pardon 36:24
first Lit YT Speedrun
That witch is so annoying!
That witch caused me to start a new game with a mage build. Then in NG+ caused me to stop playing altogether :p
Pffhhahaha I figured they'd have patched out all this shit by now. Lame-o. :P

Oh

Breaks the game to complete it in 40 minutes, but complains about dodgy hitboxes
What the hell was that ladder glitch ... did you just skip the whole game?! I just want to see these games done fast, but mostly in the ways they were intended to be played ... 🏃
There's a category for Any% No Major Glitches and All Bosses NMG. Just search them up. They're interesting to watch, too :D
"If you wanted proof that this game actually is difficult, here it is."
He says while fighting Carsejaw the Cruel, who is actually among the easiest bosses in a casual run.
First like too
This game doesn't feel very well designed, stun locks, dev islands, huge jumps that aren't intended, a ton of bugs and massive amounts of Rng.
TheDoomlord7 not like you would notice on a normal run
what bugs man? there are very few if any, what the runner is doing is that he's using exploits, you won't encounter any of this in a normal playthrough.
Another game butchered....smh
Yeah, stopped watching when I saw it was a pure glitch/cheat run.
