This was one of my favorites in high school (1980s). Fun song! His hits include: “When The Going Gets Tough, The Tough Get Going,” “Suddenly,” “Get Outa My Dreams, Get Into My Car,” “The Colour of Love,” “Love Zone,” and “They’ll Be Sad Songs (To Make You Cry).”
Billy Ocean was and is an absolute class act, one of the real good guys. A fabulous example too of the best of the music that came from the Caribbean-British melting pot. This was one of his biggest '80s hits, and his first of three US chart-toppers preceding There'll Be Sad Songs (To Make You Cry) and Get Out Of My Dreams (Get Into My Car), though they all take a backseat (as it were) here in the UK to the thumping Number One smash When The Going Gets Tough, The Tough Get Going. For perhaps his best work, though, go back to his earliest stuff from the '70s , like Red Light Spells Danger - and especially the pure Motowny soulful joy that is his debut Love Really Hurts Without You. A truly glorious song. Oh, and find a pic or recent interview if you can to see what he looks like these days. Long white dreads, smile as wide as a billboard. He's just the coolest dude.
@@kimberlinibambini1988Sorry! I'd have had to list almost a full top ten of his biggest hits here to get to it - it only reached #15 in Britain, which ranks it in ninth place in his 'league table' of hit singles... and I can't say I actually know it, to be honest. I see it made US #2 though, fair play.
"Caribbean Queen" is an 80's classic, always have loved this song. Like a lot of people have suggested, you should definitely do "Suddenly" by Billy Ocean as well, outstanding song. "There'll Be Sad Songs (To Make You Cry)" is another great song by him.
Billy Ocean is def one of the GOAT! Takes me back to where it seemed every movie had Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner and Danny Devito, and Billy was blowing up on the soundtrack!

LOVED Billy Ocean! Bought this album on vinyl in the 80s! He had some great slow jams ("Suddenly", "There'll Be Sad Songs (To Make You Cry), but he also had some upbeat ones ("When the Going Gets Tough, The Tough Get Going"). My personal fave is "Loverboy", which is very fast-paced and funky (and the video is like something from the Star Wars cantina scene). He's been married to the same woman for 43 years. I don't know if he still tours.

Billy Ocean, is a British recording artist who had a string of R&B international pop hits in the 1970s and 1980s. He was the most popular British R&B singer-songwriter of the early to mid-1980s. After scoring his first four UK Top 20 singles he accumulated three US No.1's. His 1985 hit "When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Get Going", "Caribbean Queen (No More Love on the Run)" and "Get Outta My Dreams, Get into My Car". Today he is 71 and released a new album in 2020.
OH YEAH! This brings back the best memories of the 80's, Billy Ocean, Bacardi Wine Coolers and Miami Vice! You two should listen to Billy Ocean's "There'll Be Sad Songs To Make You Cry", one of the greatest slow dance songs ever...

Come on people let's get up and dance 💃 with this beautiful song and music and let's go back to the eighties when music was great and people were having fun dancing 💃 with great music 🎶
Billy Ocean toured in 2020 and is touring in 2021 but he lives in England so the dates are all in England. Billy actually got out of recording and performing at the top of his success in 1988 to spend time with his kids. He commented that he was on the move all the time. When he returned to touring he was doing the rounds of the Brit and Irish morning talk shows and would sing an acoustic version of "Suddenly" with he and another musician adding additional guitar accompaniment. It's a beautiful version of the song.
Love this, he's originally from Trinidad my home but grew up in England. Another great singer from Trinidad is Heather Headley, you should check her out on Female Friday. Her voice is ridiculous. She even sang with the amazing Andrea Bocelli "The Prayer " now that version was goosebumps goodness ❤
Billy Ocean was born in 1950 and is still alive. He got popular in the 70s and if he would start nowadays, he would get immediately on top. Musician like him is very much needed in this time we are in right now.
I think your journey into discovery is cool. I started a similar path several years ago and it is still paying dividends such as thanks to your reaction I discovered that he did a song in the 70's called "Love Really Hurts Without You".I had known the song but never knew it was by him! Also found out his hit "Loverboy" was co-written by Def Leppard's producer "Mutt" Lange. Billy Ocean's records always sounded great with his fantastic voice and interesting production.
Billy Ocean is now 72 years old and he still owns the stage like very few others. No degradation to his voice. live he has the audience dancing within a couple of bars of his first song. I am lucky enough to live in the UK where he lives and still tours every year. Incredible Artist with an incredible backlog of music and the minute he walks on stage he just generates this aura of joy which envelopes his audience. I don't know if he tours the US but if he does make sure you go you will not be disappointed for sure.
Thank you for playing that one. One of my favorites from the 1980's. '83 popped out of my mouth, when you asked that, but I didn't 'google' it. I just loved it a lot back then. Around the time of Cyndi Lauper. I thought they both only had one song a piece, but I was wrong about Cyndi Lauper, so you might find something else by him as well. Good hunting! I love the stuff you guys come up with for reacting to! Keep them coming.
Billy Ocean is a great British R & B singer. He had been in the music industry since he was a teenager in the 1960s. He was born in Trinidad And Tobago in 1950, when it was still a British territory. Trinidad And Tobago gained independence in 1962. Billy Ocean eventually went to the UK to resume his music career. His solo career began in the mid-1970s. Billy Ocean finally had his breakthrough success in the US, thanks to some great music videos that aired on MTV. His other hit songs are: "When The Going Gets Tough, The Tough Get Going", "Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car", "There'll Be Sad Songs (To Make You Cry)", "Loverboy", and "Suddenly" (the title track to his hit album in 1984). Another album he recorded, "The Love Zone", was also a hit in the US. Billy Ocean's most recent album is "One World", which was released in 2020. Billy Ocean is 71 years old, and will turn 72 in January. He still tours in Europe. I hope that he gets to tour the US soon. He is too talented of a singer not to get a US agent to sign him to a touring contract.
Billy Ocean and his wife have been married since 1979 and he's still performing and sounds as good now as when this song was released. Plenty of recent performance videos of him on youtube.
"Suddenly" is a great song as is "When the Going Gets Tough the Tough Get Going" There is a brilliant video of that song on stage..Billy was singing with Kathleen Turner, Michael Douglas and Danny DeVito because the song was used in the film, The Jewel of the Nile which was the sequel to the film, Romancing the Stone
I turned fifty years old the year and have enjoyed much of the music you play as it came out. I love you both with your enthusiasm to hear and enjoy music 🎶🎶🎶🎶!
Love Billy Ocean & this song. He was great & should be more remembered & applauded more than he is, -along with some other 1980s acts, like The Pointer Sisters. They need playing!!!
I saw billy ocean live last year and was surprised how good he was ! A truly talented singer. And to think he was working on a car production line in Dagenham England when he released love really hurts without you!
This song brings back 80’s memories. Other great Billy Ocean songs are Get out of my dreams( get into my car) and When the going gets tough. On the subject of tough tuff enuff by the fabulous thunderbirds is a good fun listen. My love to the robsquad family big hugs 🤗
Billy Ocean it's on his early 70S and he was one of the iconic figures of the 80S with sooo many great songs like Suddenly , The Jewel Of The Nile , Get Outta My Dreams Get Into My Car amount many others
Watching your reactions, and knowing I'm a contemporary of your parents, I need to talk to them about the "gaps in your education." Seriously though, it's always a joy watching your journey of discovery. My kids don't have those reactions because they were forced to grow up with "Classic and 80's Rock."
BILLY OCEAN is one of those artists who didn't get the recognition I think he deserved IMO. Singer songwriter who lit up the 70s 80s & is still touring to this day.

Ok… now please react to my favorite Billy Ocean song,”Lover Boy”. I played this so loud when I was pregnant that it should be ingrained in my son’s memory.
Billy is in his 70s now, and I remember driving my car listening to the radio a couple of years ago and Billy was live on radio with a guitar singing this and he was phenomenally good.
Lately, you have been choosing amazing songs to react to. Who ever is recommending the songs, a big shout out to them. Oh, you have to check out "When the Going Gets Tough" by Billy Ocean from the movie "Jewel of the Nile."
He recorded three versions of this: African Queen European Queen and of course Caribbean Queen. The first time he walks through the door it says European and the next time through it says Caribbean. At the very start of the video they fade from the dancers to the stairwell. If you can go frame by frame you’ll see African just as it goes off the top of the screen. You all are in the zone when it comes to choosing good music.
The 80's!!! Billy Pcean was an amazing singer of that time I always loved the pure emotion he put into this song. You could really feel the love he had for the woman in his mind at that time..one of my favorites.
Billy's still doing gigs at the age of 71, had the pleasure of seeing him this year. & he can pronounce Caribbean correctly as he grew up in London :-)
His voice is at it's best in his song called SUDDENLY. So powerful!!! It's a slow love song with the most emotion I've ever heard in a song.
That song reminds me of slow dancing at Junior HS dances😉
Omg Amber would swooon... lol Thanks for reminding me of that song

This was originally titled 'European Queen' but was changed to reach a wider audience.. Billy Ocean had hits in the 70s before MJ went solo and is still around today, hits like Red light spells danger,Suddenly and When the going gets tough are other hits of note of his..
He had several hits then he performed at Disney World about 2 or three years ago he’s still kicking it
His voice was pure gold! This came out in the '80s. I remember dancing to it in high school. Billy was born 1950 and will be 72 next month.
This ‘80s tune still holds up and is in my regular rotation. Another really good one by him is called Love Zone. God I love that one!
Both of you, I love your reaction to this classic! I couldn't sit still!
OH YEAH! This brings back the best memories of the 80's, Billy Ocean, Bacardi Wine Coolers and Miami Vice! You two should listen to Billy Ocean's "There'll Be Sad Songs To Make You Cry", one of the greatest slow dance songs ever...
One of the 80's best ! Great songs, amazing voice ! You can't go wrong with any of Billy's songs.
Billy is a huge 80's rabbit hole.
Get outta my dreams (Get into my car)
Loverboy
Suddenly
When the going gets tough (The tough get going)
There'll be sad songs (To make you cry)
Love Zone
Mystery Lady
Love is forever
And I think you'd love the rabbit hole of (KOOL and the Gang)
Just a thought..
Come on people let's get up and dance 💃 with this beautiful song and music and let's go back to the eighties when music was great and people were having fun dancing 💃 with great music 🎶
He's amazing, definitely check out more of his songs
Represent! Trini Billy Ocean! Love his voice and songs man.
My wife has taken me along to see him live a couple of times and he's still got a great voice and is a real showman.
Billy's heyday was back in the '80's when he had a string of major hits, and he's still going strong!
My God, the memories this brings back! The 80's was an amazing decade *sigh*
81' to 85' were my favorite years for music!
My high school years ! Graduated 1985
@@robynhurley5119 I dropped out in late 81', I would have been 1983.
Caribbean Queen reminds me of summer! Great song, and great singer… Love your reaction! ☺️💕
Billy Ocean and his wife have been married since 1979 and he's still performing and sounds as good now as when this song was released. Plenty of recent performance videos of him on youtube.
"Suddenly" is a great song as is "When the Going Gets Tough the Tough Get Going"
There is a brilliant video of that song on stage..Billy was singing with Kathleen Turner, Michael Douglas and Danny DeVito because the song was used in the film, The Jewel of the Nile which was the sequel to the film, Romancing the Stone
I turned fifty years old the year and have enjoyed much of the music you play as it came out. I love you both with your enthusiasm to hear and enjoy music 🎶🎶🎶🎶!
Yes!!! Saw him at Disney World performing 2 years ago he still got it???
Love Billy Ocean & this song. He was great & should be more remembered & applauded more than he is, -along with some other 1980s acts, like The Pointer Sisters. They need playing!!!
I LOVE HIM! This song is so great!
Jordan and Amber...many thanks for Kim Karnes yesterday. What a bonus weekend with Billy Ocean!
Yes and yes...still alive and still tours.
Singer songwriter who lit up the 70s 80s
& is still touring to this day.
I love this song great choice 👍
Born in the caribbean twin island trinidad and tobago, the island of carnival steelpan calypso and soca music!!!!
Im a proud caribbean like him.
Greetings from aruba!!!!
Billy Ocean from the country of Trinidad & Tobago. This guy was one of the biggest artists back in the 1980s. Awesome voice.
The 80's!!! Billy Pcean was an amazing singer of that time
I always loved the pure emotion he put into this song. You could really feel the love he had for the woman in his mind at that time..one of my favorites.
Yeah, it sounds like you guys would have really enjoyed the 80s. Probably one of the best all around decades for so many blends of music.
Suddenly by Billy Ocean just came on a Playlist I was listening to. It is one of the most beautiful songs ever.
SUDDENLY is his big love song.
Billy's still doing gigs at the age of 71, had the pleasure of seeing him this year. & he can pronounce Caribbean correctly as he grew up in London :-)
