It's odd to see folks in the comments attacking you for not feeling comfortable with being fetishized. You're not required to have a "positive" attitude in situations wherein others make you feel discomfort, but as a Black woman myself, it's refreshing to see you living your best life regardless of potential mental health barriers. I didn't say I hate or like black or white. I used to live in the USA for more than two decades. I have lots of friends and family over there. Asian white and black. But you assumed that me and all Asian hate the people in US. Again the government and the politics are the reason America is in decline. People are so divided. I'm a Nigerian and seeing Caucasians, Semitic and Mongoloid races is not something that happens to me often because my country is 98%, if not 99% black but that doesn't mean I'd be rude and be disrespectful and be gawking at people of other races, squeezing my face as if in horror, just because of differences in physical features of people of other races when I do come across them (which is really sparsely). I experienced something similar in Italy but it wasn't like...curiosity, it was outright racism. It's one thing for people to be curious and ask questions about you, that's always pleasant and meeting new people is lovely. When you go out ONE DAY in sweats and your natural hair instead of the usual "I need to blend in a Lil bit" wig, people mistake you for a refugee, or someone who is African, and yell slurs, make nasty comments about you, assume you can't read, and dont have money, until you take out that blue passport, or say something in English, then all of a sudden everyone's nice and tryna give you free things. Never in my life, as a black person from the states, have I been treated better than other black people because of where I'm from. That was my first real run in with privilege, and I did not like it. Just knowing that I could look exactly the same but be born somewhere different, something people have NO control over, and that would dictate how people treat me really sucked. I haven't been back since then. On a lighter note...Portugal is hands down my favorite place on earth.❤️‍🔥😍🥰 my heart burns for yall, I've never met kinder people or had colder beer than I did in Portugal.

Then I move to Europe and I'm being "treated better" because I'm the cool American black vs "their blacks" and Arabs/Muslims. My time in South Africa was the most blatant. I was treated relatively better once I opened my mouth. Not saying aren't any genuinely curious people out there because I've seen a lot of good experiences too regarding black people. I don't solely believe that if not most, some people are hateful towards black people based off of how we're portrayed on social media, how they're taught at home or had a bad encounter with some who is black. But I know some of them are actually sweethearts and want to know more about us. I don't know if it's a thing in China but you are allowed to approach us if you are curious and try to have a conversation. I know they don't mean any harm in just staring and it's fine but preferably it'll be better to just say hi or give a wave because we're foreign we aren't going to know you intentions and could come off as rude to some.

This also happens in india..many foreigners complain that people stare at them a lot and it scares them sometimes...but as an indian i can say they mean no harm when they stare most of them are not that exposed to the outside world..they only see people who look different in movies..when they see someone who look different or does something they don't do on daily basis they just get curious and hence starts scaring sometimes they even starts conversation randomly ..only bcz they're curious nothing else..

Honestly I don't know why there is a lot of hate in these comments. Just looking at the videos and the fact that you rarely see another black person shows that it's not common. The stares may be overwhelming but people are just surprised. I live in Nigeria(Africa) 😂 people still stare when they see someone white or Asian. You may argue that don't they see them on TV. Trust me it's not the same thing as actually see the person. I still stare whenever I see someone white or Asian because I'm amazed by their hair. Like how is it so long and shiny 😂😂😂. About the hair touching thing I just see them as people who are not shy, trust me if I had a foreign friend I'm definitely asking for permission to touch their hair because I'm curious about the difference. 😂😂😂 I definitely don't have the courage to walk up to a random stranger and ask for that.
And honestly it's mostly the older generation you see do these things they are not as familiar with current trends like the younger generation.

Exactly, I'm Asian American and have travelled all over Africa in rural areas and people all stared at me and laughed or smiled. African Americans think Black people are exempt from being shocked by seeing another race but that's just because America is a diverse country and to them it's no big deal to see an Asian person but in Africa, where it is homogenous just like in China, of course they are going to be shocked to see other races. Glad you pointed this out as a Nigerian because African Americans can't understand this concept at all.

It's because you're different. My wife and I are UK pensioners and, prior to covid, toured China several times independently. We were constantly stared at, had sneaky photographs taken, had countless people ask to have their photographs taken with us, people try and practice their English with us or simply say 'hi' in passing. Walking along the path in Orange Island, Changsha (where the statue of a Young Chairman Mao is) we had hundreds of visiting schoolchildren shouting 'Hi' and giggling as they walked past. And guess what? - it didn't bother us in the slightest. We made time to talk when when people tried talking to us. 3 sweet little schoolgirls in Guilin politely asked if they could practice their English talking to us - we obviously obliged. This happened outside of China as well, especially in Hanoi. Sometimes, a group, often extended family, would want to have a picture with us - not just one pic but individually, pairs, groups etc. People watching would often ask if they could have theirs taken with us as well. We've been as long as 20 mins before we could get away. We used to laugh to ourselves that in the UK, people just stare through us but in China, we were like the Beckhams. I'm not a vlogger as such, but have put several short clips of some of the places we have visited on my channel, in case anyone thinks we are making it up. One video is titled ' Ann and Echo on the beach' We met Echo three years ago, when she was working as a waitress in Guangzhou during her Spring break from college. She tried practicing her English on us. It was terrible lol. She did explain that she was desperate to learn English but didn't know any 'foreigners' she could practice with. I offered to help her via WeChat and she jumped at the chance. I didn't really expect to be teaching her for long but three years later, we are still talking. We did meet up in Nanning just before Covid - where she lived - and went down to Beihai for a few days. Hence the video of her and my wife on the beach. I just wish we could go back to China but failing health has put a stop to that. Fantastic country.

At least China didn't come in and enslave them, steal their land, force them to speak French, commit genocide, rape their women etc. You must think that's ok compared to what China is doing? Since it's such a big holiday many people with familys and friends will be out. You also are filming everyone who passes around you, and you are speaking loud enough to be heard by some. That alone would attract the attention of many people anywhere. But to add on you are speaking in English (with an accent) so most in China (if heard) would turn to. And yes, you are a foreigner, so unlike the USA, UK or some other parts of Europe, many parts of East Asia (or all of Asia itself) don't have large Black or White populations. The Chinese were first introduced to Western Asians from the Middle East (West Asia) then later Europeans. It wasn't until much later on they were introduced to the true Africans. Even Egyptians (mostly in Africa but partly in Central Asia) are lighter skinned than many Africans.
In general, most countries in East Asia consist of primarily their own race. So foreigners are different than if you are a foreiner of European countries or Canada, USA, Belize or other western countries that were once colonized by the west or have more mixed people. If a Chinese person goes to some places in Africa, and walks around with a camera talking in Mandarin (or a different dialect) loudly in one of their cities during a big festival, I'm fairly sure that Chinese person would get quite a few looks at, just like you.
And as I said since China was introduced to the Europeans (or Whites) before Africans, they do probably seem more "curious" about Black foreigners. But I honestly doubt you would be getting so many glances or stares if you weren't holding a camera filming other people as well, talking in a different language out loud, beeing in a large crowd and on one of the most important holidays in the country. Doing that would be almost impossible to not have people not look at you, even if you were Chinese yourself and even if you were speaking Mandarin loudly.

The sweet is called "Bing Tang Hulu" and it has a long history. You can see that in those Wuxia dramas. The ingredients are coated sugar on Hawthorn.
