I’ve owned 7 Keeshonden since 1981. They are smart, wonderful dogs. Want nothing more than to be with their family. Not aggressive or biters but are vocal.
I enjoy your videos. I have a 4 month old right now, this is my second Keeshond. In my opinion, they are one of the best breeds out there, along with Whippets! We live in the country, so formal training hasn't been a necessity. If you live in town, or in a city, you need to train them well, for they are very stubborn, and strong willed! Your videos are great, and offer quite a lot of advice for any dog parent.
Thanks! Us living in the city was exactly why we took training so seriously. Now Millie is pretty easy to manage around the city, at coffee shops, taking her to work, being left along at home, etc. Really worth that up-front time commitment (plus it was super fun... when it wasn't super frustrating 🤣)
Just came upon this breed. definitely very underrated in my eyes . seems like a very calm puppy but still energetic at the same time. How much was the puppy and are there any health concerns. you've peaked my interest to acquire one of them :) Subscribing and cant wait to see more
Such a great breed! I grew up with dogs (bordie collies, st bernards, and a few mutts) and have never heard of Eurasiers until last year. My friend told us about them and we did a ton of research and fell in love. Bred to be companion dogs so they're relatively calm. Millie is particularly calm, but it's because she's quite timid so we've actually been working to get her more comfortable. Here in Canada they're not cheap (around a couple grand). Health concerns aren't too bad but I've heard of hip issues. Hoping to make a new video and perhaps new series soon - just catching up with work first. Thanks for subscribing!
I got a Norwegian elkhound as a puppy and it’s already turning out to be one of the best dogs. He has basically learned sit and come in one day. His name is Zeus and he is currently sleeping beside me
We were breeders of Elkhounds in the 90s. Very good dogs. Very intelligent. Stubborn and great with small kids. A huge disservice to the breed if they dont live where it snows or are able to do what they were made to do. Very natural hunting dog. An Elkhound in snow is an amazing thing to see. Good luck getting them back in the house in snow. And invest in a strong vacuum. And dont be afraid of fur. One of the worst shedding breeds around. Giant puff balls galore. Twice a year your house and furniture will be covered in them.
Just getting caught up on these videos! We are living parallel lives in north vancouver with Hunter. You guys are rocking the puppy training. If you ever want to come for a puppy play date let us know. They have a special kind of fun with other puppies. Looking forward to more videos
Thanks! She gets mistaken for a Keeshond all the time. Looks almost identical, but she's a Eurasier. Slightly bigger, less pointy of a snout. We ran into one on a walk and they were total twins.
Aren't you absolutely lovely! What a brilliant Dad you are!! Please, please consider learning about species appropriate diets...(no kibble, since it's not really food) also no big brand named kibble, it's the worst. You absolutely rock!!
Great video! I just found the Eurasier breed a few months ago. Was set to get a Keeshond and in love with the Eurasier as well. Both seem like calm dogs which is good for us because we have been used to cats many years. So, not experienced with dog training, so these videos and the linked books will be helpful. Want a companion to walk with a dog that can also just chill on the couch with us. Do you have any experience with the Keeshond as well and know how they compare? Most people in the States have heard of neither breed!
Thanks for the comment! Although Millie is often mistaken for a Keeshond, I've never had one myself so can't quite compare. Eurasiers though were bred to be companion dogs and Millie is just that. She's up for big walks and hikes, but also very content relaxing around the house. We find a good daily walk or two keeps her inside energy very manageable. Skip too many walks in a row though and she gets really restless. I also bring her to the office and she's able to relax under my desk for hours.
I would love to get one myself but I don’t know if I can to be honest because after I’m done studying, I‘ll be a doctor and I can’t leave the dog at home for several hours... Do you have any tips?
My honest and candid opinion is to not get a dog unless you have loads of free time to care for it. I grew up with dogs but they spent most of their time outside. Living in the city with a dog is a different beast. Every moment not working is either walking, training, feeding, or playing with the dog now. Great companionship, but all consuming. Congrats on med school!
First off, congratulations! And yes, ankle biting is a painful stage. My best advice would be to try to give your pup other things to bite. When he/she is playful, grab a toy and try to keep her teeth biting that. When she's just relaxing, see what kind of chew toys she likes. Be mindful to buy ones that are safe for a pup with puppy teeth. They teeth a lot so good chews will feel really good for them to chew on and keep them from chewing on you, your shoes, or anything around the house. Best of luck!
wow, i’ve been doing so much research on this breed and i think i would like to bring one of them into my life. Is it alright if i ask who your breeder is ?
Such a wonderful breed. Good for you for doing your research and looking for a breed that’ll match your lifestyle. We got Millie from Edelweiss Eurasiers in Canada. They’re extremely passionate and dedicated to raising healthy pups.
Watch some later videos when she's grown and you'll see her curled tail. Or checkout Millie_the_Eurasier on Instagram for the latest pics. She's 1 now and around 45 lbs... of pure fluff 🐶
A lot. Around twice a year she "blows her coat" which means she sheds a Millie sized bag of fluff off over the course of a few days. Outside of that, the shedding isn't too bad. Just fluff balls around the house as oppose to coarse hairs that get stuck in everything. We brush her once a week or so (at best) and always have lint rollers around to clean clothes, couches, and cars.
Hi! Thanks for your videos! I just got a Eurasier a few days ago and he's been pretty finicky with eating only dry food - what kind of milk did you use to mix with Millie's food? Any other recommendations would be much appreciated! Thanks!
First of all, thanks and congratulations! Eurasiers are wonderful dogs - best of luck. Checkout my app, www.SocialPuppy.com for a fun guide to raising him. :) About food, first I should say that Millie is my first Eurasier so this is based just off my experiences and research. Talk to your local pet store and the Eurasier community on Facebook for more breed specific advice. My thoughts: - Eurasiers are smart! They don't tend to over eat so don't worry too much about giving extra. - Routine routine routine! Establish a good routine and do your best to stick to it (within reason). Meals are best served after some exercise or play time. Build up an appetite, then feed. If they don't eat too much, no biggie, they'll eat later. - Be patient. Some days they'll eat lots, some days little. Especially a growing puppy. They go through growth spurts where they're extra hungry then the next day they eat half as much. Keep lots of food available for those growth spurts so they always get their fill. - Balanced diet: give a variety of foods but keep an eye out for allergies. Excessive scratching or of course vomiting can be an indicator something doesn't agree with them. Try eliminating and re-introducing things you suspect are causing discomfort. Sorry to plug my app again, but there's a Journal to track meals so you can note down what you fed them before they vomit so next time you can see the patterns. - Raw food diet: this was highly recommended to us and has been working really well with Millie. It takes a week or two to transition from kibble to raw food, but from what I've read and experienced it's really good for the dog's digestion and general health. Reach out here or in my app if you have anymore questions. You have a really exciting (and challenging!) road ahead, but your little pupper will be a great companion.
Oh, and to answer your actual question, that was organic goat's milk. We added it to her food only while she was really young. But, then we suspected it may have been bothering her so we toned it down and didn't re-introduce 🙄 She also loves eggs! Little scrambled eggs on top of her food gets her excited every time.
Remake congratulations and good luck! They're great dogs. Positive reinforcement training is your best bet. Download Social Puppy for iPhone and reach out anytime you have questions.

Everyone is talking about Keeshonds, but I'm pretty sure that this is an elkhound. Correct me if I'm wrong!
Haha, so close. We get that a lot. She’s actually a Eurasier 🤯
@@SocialPuppy ohh. Dang I was close! She’s a very cute dog! My parents are thinking about getting a Norwegian Elkhound pup early next year!

Probably, but I haven't raised a Keeshond so I'm not quite sure. The two certainly got along and were playing well together right away.

Hello Lars, How old was Millie when you picked her up from her breeder?
Pretty sure she was 8 weeks old. That’s about the earliest you should pick up a puppy. They learn a lot from their mom and siblings.
3:50 hiii his mom, hope ure good

What’s is the color of this Eurasier called?
Millie is “wolf grey agouti” and it was really cool seeing her cost evolve and she grew up. Now at 2 it’s settled.
Is this a Norwegian elkhound?
She’s a Eurasier actually. Looks a lot like an elkhound or a Keeshond though.
@@SocialPuppy oh, it looks like an elkhound😂
Is she a pure bred cuz her tail isn’t curled

Hi Lars! Could you let me know where you got your sweet keeshond from? I’m also in Canada on the west coast
She’s actually a Eurasier we got from Edleweiss Eurasiers, in BC. Really wonderful breeders that taught us a lot about early development for pups.
Do you believe that one can train a Norwegian elk hound to be a service dog???
I don’t know a lot about training service dogs but it’s worth checking out. Eurasiers make great companion dogs at least.
at first, I thought this was an elkhound but then I discovered the eurasier
Milk is fine??
How old is your Norwegian elkhond
She's actually a Eurasier and it's her 2nd birthday TODAY 🎂
She'll be getting extra bully sticks and tummy rubs.
She is keeshond o keesh-inu? I had keesh-inu
chino Y Alexandra she’s an Eurasier. It’s a different breed from the keeshond.
