Original Movie: In Bruges - Розваги
The 2 main actors (Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell) along with the director (Martin McDonagh) all reunited for THE BANSHEES OF INISHERIN (2022), which I highly recommend. The director also made THREE BILLBOARDS OUTSIDE EBBING, MISSOURI (2017) starring Frances McDormand and Sam Rockwell (both won Oscars for it).
Three billboards is one of my favorite movies, i wish more channels did a reaction to it.
Not to mention Seven Psychopaths which has Colin Farrell as the lead which is also really good
Banshees was amazing!
ive seen all of mcdonagh's movies and i think three billboards is my favourite
Out of all of McDonagh's films, Banshee's is the only one that left me totally cold. I hated it - great cinematography though!
The tonal whiplash of In Bruges is part of the charm. It's also hilarious that they bag on Americans for being loud and crass, while being loud and crass 🤣🤣🤣
"Dark Comedy" is a very apt description for this film.
There's also quite a lot of very niche UK/Irish humour that will go over the heads of a lot of folk
I'm not from UK but for me the line about Tottenham is probably the funniest shit I've seen in movies and sadly reactors usually don't get it.
@@basils8255 Yeah that's the one I was thinking of LOL!
The Tottenham line was also immediately what I thought of; though you only need to be an EPL to understand it
In Bruges absolutely cracks my top 5 movies of all time. Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleason and Ralph Fiennes all give career best performances and Martin McDonagh’s direction is on point and the script is some pitch perfect, dark comedy perfection.
"A bottle?"
"YOU'RE AN INANIMATE F**KING OBJECT!"
"You don't know karate"
"Take that bit about my c**t f**king kids back"
And then you have the scene with the little boy which is some of the saddest shit I've ever seen. This movie has it all
A lolipop man is a crossing-guard. But over here we call them lollipop men/ladies because the stop sign looks like a big lollipop.
Is it childish? Yes. But they are meant for kids.
Telling your kid to only cross by the 'lollipop man' is perfectly normal kid speak that they understand 😅😅
I did not know this. I assumed it was a candy seller, but it is someone who ensures the safety of children. That adds something significant here. Thanks.
Not to be confused with this guy: ua-cam.com/video/LehcJeNbFBw/v-deo.html
The americans going up the tower argument scene followed by the tower being closed due to an american having a heart attack up there is just peak everything.
My friends and I have taken up occasionally calling each other "inanimate f*cking objects" as a faux-comeback. Love this movie!
I love the fact that they shit on Bruges so hard the entire movie and never really explain why. The whole town looks like a gorgeous Christmas display and they make it sound like purgatory. It's one of the funniest running jokes I've ever seen in a film.
If you're interested, the origin of the film was actually the director visiting Bruges, being enchanted on the first day, finding it dull on the second, and that is how the two characters were born!
@@neilbiggs1353 That's pretty funny. I've had experiences like that in small towns in South America. You're enchanted when you first get there, but you usually see everything there is to see in about a day and then you're just annoyed that there's no good beer around.
I went to Bruges when I was about 30. I drank very nice beer, and ate a lot of moules and frites, I recommend it.
@@johnrussell-bk7lvlots of good beer in Belgium!
@@alundavies1016 I'll get there eventually. I've been in South America for a year and a half now and with the exception of a couple places beer is not really their forte. I'm going back to the US in a couple months for the birth of my neice and to have joygasms in a few microbreweries and then I'm headed to Vietnam to teach English. I don't know what their beer situation is like, but the food's going to be awesome.
It doesn't matter whether Ray dies or not. He's spent the entire movie wanting to die and in the story's final moments, he realizes he wants to live. The movie is an existential masterpiece.
When I went to Europe back in 2011 I said to myself "I must visit Bruges" just because of this film and I do not regret it, such a lovely town
Did you play the soundtrack music from this film as you walked around?
Did it feel like you were in a dream, even though you knew you were awake?
@@lancevance60 in Bruges? I mean.... The Bahamas, maybe?
i went there on my honeymoon. and no... its not a shithole
This is one of my all-time favorites. I've lost track of how many times I've watched it. It's brilliant.
Martin McDonagh, the writer and director, has a very strong background as a playwright. And I think it heavily inspires the tone of his movies because poets and playwrights always appreciate the tragicomedy "genre" and the idea that tragedy and comedy go hand-in-hand
Might as well Banshees right after
The Pillowman should get a film adaptation. Woof..
Cranham and Blakely, the aliases used by Ray and Ken in the film, are the names of the characters in a Harold Pinter one-act play called The Dumbwaiter. It is about two hitmen waiting for an assignment. I haven't seen the play, but the assignment turns out to be for one to kill the other. There is a great added layer of irony when Marie calls Ken by one of the names and he says no and then yes. In the film he just couldn't remember his alias, but if you understand the reference, he doesn't know which one he is yet.
I love this movie. Voldemort as a Harry is really good.
Bruges is honestly a very small place, so not that surprising they all wash up at the clock tower, the movie almost makes it seem bigger than it is haha
One of my all time favourites. Such a good balance of darkness and hilarity 😂
One of my absolute favourite films of all time! The combination of dark story line, surrealism and comedy makes it unlike any other film
It was dark comedy... literally. Love this movie and especially the dialogues. :D
the girl + Ken the older assasin + Harry the boss + the priest, were all four in Harry Potter's movie
(Fleur Delacour + rAlastor "Mad-Eye" Moody + Voldemort + Abelfort Dumbledore)
ARE YOU SERIOUS LOL I absolutely did not notice!! that's so awesome
And Colin Farell in Fantastic Beasts
Which just makes the line about Harry the boss being said by the one who played Moody even funnier! You can find people overlaying the audio on HP clips on youtube...
Alastor who?
@@TedBrogan Mad-Eye Moody.......Alastor "Mad-Eye" Moody.......sorry , I used the french name Alastor Maugrey, lol
Honestly, Colin Farrell did an amazing job in Gentlemen by Guy Ritchie. I was laughing my ass off every time Farrell appeared on screen, great movie with great story, cinematography, editing and pacing. And it's in London (London? London, shitty weather, awful food, Mary fucking Poppins) *ahem*
Recommended and certified by YT guidelines
Loved him in Gentlemen - it was a shame he didn't have more screen time
Farrell is a brilliant actor overall; he's been in some pretty shitty movies (think his role as Bullseye in Daredevil), but recently he's done The Banshees of Inisherin (same director as In Bruges) and Sugar, and he was great in both.
Really, Bruges is a beautiful little town. Also, the square by the bell tower is not very large. I think there's a bigger one nearby, but between them it could seem like a small place, and one could certainly run into people there. Good movie.
In Bruges seems to be at least partially inspired by the stage play, "The Dumb Waiter", which is about two assassins biding their time in a hideout waiting for new orders.
There is a film theory out there that Bruges represents purgatory.
Fun fact: There's actually a deleted scene which features Matt Smith as a younger version of Harry and depicting what he did for Ken when his wife was murdered.
This is one of my all time favorite films. I have seen it a dozen times and there is so much depth to it, it never gets old.
LOL, now youi HAVE to see "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri" I know it's a strange unappealing title but I know you will love that one, this Director is wild, which is why I love him, and three billboards is his best for me
If you liked this movie, I want to recommend another one from this director. It has more humor, but the atmosphere is similar. It's called Seven Psychopaths.
It's the best film of ever I see
22:53 In old european cities or towns, particularly in the ones that aren't too big, there is usually a main square in the center, usually with bars and coffee places, and most people go there when they go out to meet people.
Just in case you didn't realize this was PROFESSOR MOODY facing off against LORD VOLDEMORT. 😉 Awesome, thank you, In Bruges is one of my all-time fave movies.
Also, Chloe was the French girl in Goblet of Fire. So fuking cool....
The heavyset guy near the beginning, I was at his wedding! ... He was also in Shaun of the Dead.
Beautiful movie. One of my all time favorites. ❤
The music alone gives me goosebumps
I don't know much about this movie but that is why I'm watching
have a great Wednesday afternoon VKunia.🇺🇲📺📺🇺🇲
The funny bits are Scater-Shock woven into this film in such a real/f up-ed kind of way that is just so elegantly crafted.
Brendan Gleeson is one of the best actors today who doesn't get enough credit love watching him in anything
Just because someone is a priest, it doesn't make them a better person. I've met my fair share of priests who have the "-ilia"
Religious people are more likely
to fall for far-right rhetoric too
Very conservative people, priests or pastors, not always, but mostly. I've met my fair share of questionabley unethical "men of god"
@@HistoritorJimaldus No offence but the term "far right" literally is an example of rhetoric. Same with "far left". It's rhetoric designed to make people on the other end of the political spectrum sound more extreme or radical compared to the side we support. The meanings behind "right wing" or "left wing" have become twisted over recent years to the point of being almost meaningless, but originally they were simple. "Left wing" meant those who stood against authority and status quo, whilst "Right wing" stood in favour of the monarchy, government, or authority. In that regard, a large religious denomination like the Roman Church has tended to often be right wing, following a traditional institution and hierarchy. But many indigenous or alternative religions are left wing, resisting larger institutions and colonisation.
backwards, mate. large government is always left-wing, by definition. self sufficient communities that regulate themselves and require little governance are representative of right wing politics.
its a myth that communism and fascism are at opposite ends... both are far left ideologies and grant ultimate power to the state.
You've met your fair share of -illia priests? really?
I've never met a single one.
Watch Colin Ferrell again in Phone Booth. That's a thriller movie.
You should react to the film Highlander (1986). It’s where the meme, “There can only be one”, came from.
Its a strange film for Alastor Moody, Voldemort, and Fleur DeLacour to reunite in...
Lollipop Man is what we call the “crossing guard” in the UK.
and Ireland, where the actors are from.
@@Shezationstands to reason they got it from the UK, like most things.
@@Scoobay due to plantation and slavery, your point?
Absolutely a dark comedy 100 percent!
Here are some comedy recommendations
The Gentlemen
Snatch
Lock stocks and two smoking barrels
The Other Guys
Ted 1 and 2
Kiss kiss bang bang
This is a personal favorite, in my top 10 for sure.
I've never expected you to react to In Bruges. You should react to The Banshees of Inisherin next, the same main actors are in it and it's directed by the same person.
You need to watch all of Martin Mcdonagh’s filmography. All incredible.
His brother John Michael has made some great films too
Beautiful. And a great film.
(Dragging Feet) sums up Ray's whole character 😂
I am team Ken and Harry. Bruges is fantastic. After seeing this movie my girlfriend and I went there. Except that it is much more tourists, most of the places you see in the movie is just as beautiful. And "the swans was still there" =)
Such a lovely movie :) But, they nailed it. There's a movie with both of them "The Banshees of Inisherin", same director.
One of the best written movies of all time I reckon. Love the subtle things that pop up like the tower being closed due to an American having a heart attack.
This was such a chaotic film but it was fun, especially the dialogue and your reactions to them! Interesting to see three actors who we've seen in the Harry Potter films; it's funny that Ralph Fiennes plays Harry here, while playing Voldemort in the Harry Potter films! Ken is played by Brendan Gleeson, who was also Mad Eye Moody and Chloe is played by Clémence Poésy who was also Fleur Delacour.
+ Abelfort Dumbledore (Ciarán Hinds, the priest)
I did not remember nearly as much of this movie as I thought I did and a lot of what happened came as much as a surprise to me as it did VK. I *did* remember it being quite dark and rushing wildly back and forth between moods. It does leave a very lasting impression, even if the details become indistinct over time.
Just wanted to say, excellent choice of snack! Nutella biscuits! 😄
THEYRE SOOO GOOD It's my newest addiction 😆but now I can't find them anywhere 😭😭
it is considered a black comedy-drama crime thriller xD
the movie also shows you dont need 100 million or nowadays 1 billion to make a movie, it had 15 million budget and more then doubled it in the box office
I remember watching this one back when it came out on DVD and the extra features included a mini-documentary of the production and Colin Farrell said that the movie was made with a lot of collaboration from the Belgian government and the people of Bruges, so every time they yelled cut he kept apologizing to everybody because he felt terrible about the things he said about Bruges in pretty much every scene because in real life he was basically having he same experience as Ken and loving every single moment there.
He loved it? In Bruges? On a job?
Colin Farrell is one of my favorite actors and it was because of this movie hahaha
“Oh, my fucking heart” said my heart when I saw this popping up.
You’re DAMN great and so this is perfect movie…
The DVD had some extra content. One of which was just each shot of one of the characters cursing. It's amazing how long that is.
If you like this you'd love Sexy Beast which is Ray Winstone (Departed) with Ben Kingsley is a twisted dark comedy about the UK mob.
Also with Brendan Gleeson and with a similar tone, you might want to look at The Guard and Calvary 😊
Omgggg she’s actually watching this, I’m so exciteddd
Watching movies is so much better with a beautiful women reacting 🥰
Adore this film, its my kind of mental!
One of my all time favorite movies and absolutely a comedy, but you have to have a very dark sense of humor.
I absolutely love this movie, and I also love the city. I even had to go back there on my honeymoon to show my wife just how amazing this place is. I truly recommend that anybody who has the opportunity go and visit Brugge
my favorite movie
Haven't watched your reaction yet. I love this movie. It doesn't get enough attention imo. EDIT: Great reaction lol. Such a surreal film. Please, watch Super and God Bless America. They both have this vibe and are both sorely underrated.
Deleted scenes reveal the priest had abused Harry when he (Harry) was a child
19:00 We learn why Harry is so frustrated all the time 😁
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. So glad you watched it! I tell all my friends to watch it lol.
To be fair, at the moment of filming the movie, it was illegal to smoke indoors of restaurants and bars for about a year already in Belgium. So people were tense about this.
Burn after Reading is another great black comedy.
Brad Pitt and George Clooney.
Such a good one
Another amazing movie thats kind of like this one but less intense with Brendan Gleeson too ; The Guard.
This is absolutely one of my top 3...... Certainly helps that possibly my biggest crush developed from watching (Clemence Posey)... Absolutely perfect flick
"In Bruges" is one of my favorite dark comedy movies of all time, and the dynamic between Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson are terrific.
If you enjoy "In Bruges", I also recommend you to check out Martin McDonagh's third directed film "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri", which is a personal favorite of mine.
I love this movie. I really like the balancing of the tones. It's unapologetic, violent, melancholic, exciting, contemplative, humorous, and dark.
The ending is ambiguous, but the screenplay is much more conclusive.
In the screenplay, it later pans to another day in Bruges, life is carrying on and today's newspaper arrives, the headline and story describes a bloody shootout that left one man mortally injured, however he's in the hospital making some progress towards recovery.
It suggests that Ray is going to pull through and the ending is a little more hopeful. But the writer decided to cut that out and wanted to leave it ambiguous. Which I do prefer. Suggesting he survives kind of plays against the more dominant tones of the film, which is melancholia, judgement after death, and dealing with guilt.
If you enjoyed this, you should check out another film the director and writer made with Colin again.
Seven Psychopaths. It's another film I really like. It's best to go into it blind.
I appreciate you and thank you for making content.
This is my favorite movie.
Double thumbs up for defending our (the Europeans') right to smoke! 😁❤
I think he did die but his character arc was in the end he said he really didn't want to die. Compared to the rest of the film where he did want to.
This is one of my fave movies. I adore Ralph Fiennes. I wish youd do more of his movies. You will LOVE The English Patient. Please do it with Mary Cherry!!
I mean can you really have a dark drama with small person fighting?
Well, yes... 🤯
Now, you have to watch the two of them in the movie: Banshees of Inishirin. Their chemistry is just so good and it’s and FAR less dark. Same director though!
The inanimate object scene is my favourite comedic scene in any movie.
The director, Martin McDonaugh confirmed that Raymond survives at the end. You can sleep better knowing that ✌️
Hey VKunia, I would recommend you to watch the Bollywood movie PK. It's a really really good movie with tons of comedy and a great viewpoint of an alien trying to understand human society. 😊
One of the best movies
One of my favorite movies and love the town in it!
I'm an actor. I just tried out for a role in a play set in Dublin. To nail the accent, I watched this movie and paid very close attention to Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, how they sound, and their speech patterns. After practicing for days, I got it down. And I memorized all the lines to be off book for the audition and callback. I worked so hard for the role - probably harder than I've ever worked for any role. And in the end, I still didn't get it for one simple reason: I'm just not connected enough in the industry for anyone to trust me with important roles. 😔 It definitely wasn't my first rejection and won't be my last. But some still sting harder than others, especially when all your hard work ends up being for nothing.
Sorry to hear that. Your hard work will surely pay off some day though! Best of luck!
@@Zedd0zI'm hoping so. Opportunities like that don't come around very often. Thank you very much for your encouragement.
"I'm just not connected enough in the industry" you don't have an automatic right to all roles, they just didn't pick you, maybe your acting and accent were awful
if you're talking about The Seafarer your accent is really bad, almost an insulting mockery tbh
@aidanrock8719 "Oooh, let me see who I can be a total dick to today for no reason at all."
@@aidanrock8719And FYI that was several years ago. I've worked a lot harder on getting the accent down since then. And that's how it works. Casting choices are based on how well the director knows you and your work.
Banshees of Inisherin time.
Your hair is so fancy today. I like it! You should do a short video on your hair and makeup techniques.
I've always liked this movie but I can't explain why. It is kind of chaotic and goofy and fun. I wouldn't have called it a comedy though.
This is textbook dark comedy. McDonagh is one of the best playwrights/screenwriters working today. His Irish plays are even better than his movies and his movies are awesome!
i dont know any other movie that is so funny and so sad at the same time
God I love this movie. Turns out it's a fantastic tourism ad for Bruges as well. It instantly made me want to visit. And I finally did in 2018! Absolutely beautiful place.
Were they doing a film with midgets?
I think my brother and his wife had that room during their honeymoon.
Some dark comedies you may enjoy: Grosse Pointe Blank, Secretary, The House of Yes, Repo Man.
You should watch "The Guard"!
This is a top3 comedies of all time
i loved this movie, always thought it was underrated.
Mad-Eye Moody calls Voldemort a "C" five times to his face .... Brilliant!
This is a great comedy
