Logan Lathe Restoration

- This Logan 1920 has been my most ambitious restoration project to date. Its big, its old, and its well used. It felt good to get her running. I've done more tuning, made a few parts, things have smoothed out since this first day of cutting. The tooling is working well enough for now. I have a turret, a collet setup, a steady rest, and a nice indicator for this lathe that I still need to go through. That said this Logan is ready for production.
This is my first Logan lathe. Please share your knowledge about these great old Logan machines in the comments. The Gear Box is labeled "Logan Engineering Co. Chicago, IL". The castings are all numbered starting with "LA". The number on the Headstock is LA1001. I think it was manufactured in the 1950's.
Thanks for watching. - Наука та технологія
that looks so good with the paint stripped. A lot of work went into that restoration I'm sure.
Hi M.Gary ! I have a logan lathe 9 inch i bought few years ago .I restored it like you do .This lathe is one of the best tool i bought in my garage
same here.
Nice, clear and concise restoration. Good machine too.
Greetings.
Nice work Gary! I did notice the link belt was installed backwards. They are directional. Perhaps you've discovered it already but thought I'd throw it out there. Good luck, G.
Love it. It looks like you wirebrushed everything super clean? I have the 1820 , the 10", I guess yours is the 11"?
I think its 11. It's pretty solid but it still needs some tuning. I have a Turret style tailstock I need to get tooled and running. And I have a collet setup. This machine has all the trimmings, I need to get at it.
What a cool video
Jolie pièces 👍 Bravo de grâce et bonne année
I love that music that starts at minute 8:15
Beautiful job, and careful reassembly! Love that raw metal look. May do my 200 the same upon rebuild!
i know I'm kinda off topic but does anybody know a good website to watch newly released series online ?
@Allan Torin meh try flixportal. just search on google after it :D -bentlee
@Bentlee Alessandro thanks, signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there :D Appreciate it!!
@Allan Torin you are welcome :D
Well - i'm back... apparently can't get enough of this build. Question: did you use 2k clear or just hardware store spray can stuff? Thanks!
regular ol hardware store clear.
They still exist as a company. It's lathe.com and you can buy reprinted manuals, parts catalogs, and they even have new parts available.
Gary - beautiful work. Curious - how has the bare metal held up to the elements? Doesn't look to have any clear coat on it - juts stripped? Has rust been an issue?
Thank you, I clear coated everything and no rust. I'm looking at this machine right now and I have two feet of other projects piled on it. That's my big problem.
@@GaryTruesdale Oh - I so understand... Thanks for taking the time to respond. Any chance you could outline briefly the process you used for stripping, preying for clear, and what clear you used? I didn't realize clear would stick to bare metal. This vid deserves even more views. Very unique/cool solution.
I've been wanting to build a motor-mount bracket like you have, how has it held up with vibration? I hate the floating post that it came with.
It was part of the lathe when I acquired it. Its heavy and well made. No issues. Good luck with your lathe.
@@GaryTruesdale thanks!
Hey Gary, nice Logan lathe you have where's the paint did it come stripped ? You might already know this but if you have questions about or need parts you can call Scott Logan at Logan Actuator co.they are still in business. Scott is a nice guy and helped me over the phone fix a problem i had with my back gear on my model 200.
Wonderful Tip! Thank you for the contact.
