This was exactly the video I've been looking for! I've been wanting to upgrade my Dihada precon, so I've been searching through multiple deck tech, upgrade, and even gameplay videos on YT for one to get me started. This one is by far the best, most thorough one, including explanations/reasoning for changes and inclusions and how the gameplay would play out. This video gave me insight on possible changes I'd want to make and provided me with brewing inspiration as well. Great video, subscribed!
I was gifted this deck for my first MTG deck! I’m really enjoying and love all of these recommendations. Been playing for less than a month. My uncle taught me how to play Christmas Day! Really enjoyed this video and how to make my deck better!
My local LGS does a commander league. The rules are you can use any precon in current standard, and you get to do 5 upgrades each week for 6 weeks. First week you do out of the box and this deck was so much fun!
Just got the precon 3 months late and was not disappointed with this being the best yet again upgrade guide. I had to get yoshimaru simply because of the reference and changed the commander to yoshimaru and vial smasher for a cool looking command zone.
Some great suggestions for upgrading my precon, can’t wait to get working on it. I’d really like to see some takes on the new spellslinger commanders for a future poll - new Rona, Tura Kennurud, and Tor Wauki the Younger are all exciting and atypical spells commanders that I’d like to see your take on.
Glad to hear that you've been liking my suggested upgrades! Rona, Tura and Tor are all pretty solid commanders that I would not mind taking a stab at building around - so I'll see what I can do about getting them on future polls!
Glad you like that interaction! Mardu as a solid number of damage dealing legends, so I figure we could capitalize on that by getting even more life back as while protecting them!
Thank you so much, I got me this deck, but I have some questions regarding upgrades. I got Flowering of the White Tree from the LOTR set. Is it worth to take it into the deck and replace another card? Also for all the upgraded Cards which ones would you replace? Who can help me? Help super appreciated! Im kinda newish to magic
I ended up making my Dihada deck my most prized deck...it has so many upgrades I left only about 15 of the precon cards in it. It's current worth is around $500. I did however see a 1200 dollar deck build somewhere but I don't own anything that crazy 😜
I have a Mox opal i'd love to toss into this deck that I found in my collection. Would it be unreasonable to replace a signet with that, what would make the most sense?
Thank you for doing the Precon upgrades they are the best. Since that is the majority of what I do for my Commander decks. I hope you go back and do the older decks all the way back to the 20 dollar options from a few years ago.
Glad to hear you have been enjoying them! Tackling the older precons sounds fun but sadly I currently don't have the time. Maybe as the channel grows that may become a possibility however.
Do you have any other recommendations for this build? I feel theres a few more cards that could be replaced but im new to magic and dont know what to swap out
I put the new Braids in my Dihada build. Since I came treasures with my commander, I can have treasures to sac to the trigger. You either sac a an artifact or let me draw. Either way, its a win win. I also ran Jor Kadeen because treasures. And you should also add Hofri and Cadric Soul Kinderer will give you doubles of your legendaries. And lastly, I got shadrix silverquill bursting on the scene. Either way you build it, Dihada is actually a rather fun commander.
Sadly, not in the near future - since I will have my hands full with the Commander Masters Precon Upgrades and then the backlog of commanders that I have to cover since taking my break. That said, there is always I chance I can revisit these sometime further down the line, if there is enough demand for it!
I tried having her a bit but it was too hard to keep her protected my group hates out planeswalkers too much and definitely never allow them to hit ults
Yes, I was waiting for this. I really like the changes you made. But I still think Shanid is a way better commander, I made two different list for him, one for a 100 Dollar upgrade and one for even more. For further deck tecks I would like to see Greensleeves as obviously a landfall commander.
Glad you agreed with the changes! I will admit that Shanid is a very solid commander for Mardu Legends as well, though where Shanid excels is getting a lot of card advantage by playing lots of smaller legends, where Dihada is better at keeping large, singular legends with powerful effects alive instead. I guess it comes down to the perfered playstyle of the player to see who they like better - but in the end they are both very solid. Greensleeves would make for a fine build around, but that $25 price tag is currently to far out of the build we covers price range - unless we do a build not including the price of the commander....
Considering that there is a non-zero amount of humans and angels here, Bruna, the Fading Light seems like a solid option. Mill over a target to recur with Dihada then reanimate it whilst getting a 5/7 vigilance flyer to sweeten the deal. Heck, if you have the means to acquire her sister; Brisela will become a literal nightmare for opponents to hand which reduces the ways opponents have to deal with the legends blessed by Dihada's +2.
Not a bad idea - especially if we're able to add in Gisela, the Broken Blade since Brisela, Voice of Nightmares is very oppressive (especially with Dihada keeping her alive). It would be a pricy addition, but worth it!
Would Agrus Kos, Eternal Soldier have a good home here? 4 drop legendary, when he's targetted by an ability that targets ONLY him, you can pay {1}{R/W} to copy that ability for each creature you control, having it target each of those creatures. tl;dr, for 2 mana her +2 gets overload lmao
Also, Magda won't be making treasures with Dihadas effect... you might get 1 out of an early swing before Dihada drops, other than that she's gonna either have vigilance or be doing nothing.
Fair, point - but Magda is more here for her ability to turn 5 treasures into a tutor/cheat into play for our legendary dragons (Drakuseth, Maw of Flames, Piru, the Volatile, Bladewing, Deathless Tyrant etc) or artifacts (Avacyn's Memorial, Heroes' Podium) - which Dihada should be able to provide fairly easily with her -3 after the first early swing with Magda gets us the first treasure (or instead Madga can swing on the turn Dihada after she -3's to create the treasures, sicne this is at flash speed - though Magda is likely to die here unless we get Avacyn's Memorial). Hope that helps explain my inclusion of her.
Tetsuo, Imperial Champion is a very intesting voltron/spell slinger commander no doubt and his price is coming down, so he may just make it onto the polls once his price settles.
10:31 I think this is incorrect, your 3 drops are most important if you want to start playing dihada on curve and generating value Especially a vampire that gets bigger over time and has flying
That is a fair point - but I would like to counter saying that, in my experience playtesting this build, legendries from cmc 1 - 3's primary job is to serve as an indestructible blockers on the turn that Dihada comes down and later become utilities pieces as the game game progresses because (generally) 1 - 3 drop lack the stopping power to win the a game for us off their own back - while bigger CMC legends can certainly do so. The build already has 11 legendary creatures between CMC 1 - 3 fulfill this roll and I found that to be sufficient in testing, but if you find yourself coming up short on playable bodies in the early game, that can be increased with some of the sidegrades I suggested. Then regarding Drana, Liberator of Malakir, generally I found her to be lackluster since the build (typically) doesn't go wide enough to make use of her +1/+1 counter distribution, but she can certainly be kept in as another 3 drop option if you find yourself needing more early drop legends and can occasionally work well alongside the tokens Bladewing, Deathless Tyrant, Krenko, Tin Street Kingpin, and Zeriam, Golden Wind produce. Hope that helps explain my reasoning.
@@GrazzetMTG hmmm 🤔 reasonable points i can see that I think then maybe another rout is possible more effects / creatures that buff your entire board thereby increasing the efficacy of your low drops which are still important I am sure there are other elesh norn legendaries that are not $40 🤣
@@regshowfan1600 True, going more in on cheaper, AOE ways to pump the board would make running cheaper legends more viable - like leaving in Drana, Liberator of Malakir, Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit, & Adriana, Captain of the Guard and adding in Ravos, Soultender, Judith, the Scourge Diva, and Jor Kadeen, the Prevailer - which would give cheaper legends the stats they needs to be real threats. Though then the question becomes would Shanid, Sleepers' Scourge be better at leading that build over Dihada, since the AOE menace and repeatable draw as we cast our cheaper legends may be better then just protecting one legend and the activatable draw/ramp Dihada provides.
@@GrazzetMTG but dihada is cooler :-). I think a general blend and buildup to big drops is good Your 3 drops are critical to establishing your board state and being aggressive early game Its the same secret to Ur dragon Everyone thinks you big dragons are most important when reall its your 4 drops that allow you to quickly mow people down
Glad you agreed with my choices! Kaya definitely pulls a lot of weight in this build - especially with the big, indestructible blockers Dihada can provide to let Kaya charge up her ult in (relative) peace. O would certainly be interesting in seeing more "less than 5 color" legendary tribal commanders in the future - provided they feel different enough from each other and represent their color pairings well.
I think playing too many high cmc legendaries is really gonna hurt your consistency. You really want low cmc early drops BEFORE you play Dihada. Trample, Deathtouch and especially Flying are the most important keywords for legends.
Ya after fully watching the video I really don't like all the high cmc legendaries you added in place of cheaper ones... it doesn't make much sense. I think you really need to look at the curve
I respectfully disagree. In testing I found that Dihada's -3 is such a potent ramp tool that it is often the right choice to discard all 4 cards revealed to create 4 treasure - usually giving you access to a whopping 9 mana on the turn after she comes down (Assuming you +2'd her to protect her for the turn) - allowing us to play very big and impactful creatures vs loads of small ones. Now while I will admit that running a smaller cmc legends is a viable build, at that point I would say that Shanid, Sleepers' Scourge would make for the better commander in that case - since they would be able to generate a lot more value (in the form of card advantage) out of playing many smaller legends than Dihada could (since she's more about protecting 1 thing, so I found it best to make that 1 thing count).
Truly legendary... though I am still slightly biased towards the Garth build. For reasons :) My own bias aside, amazing upgrade as always! Also hey, Gruul Urza won the vote... well, understandable. Gruul artifacts is a truly janky build, after all. As for the next commander to go Cut-Rate... The Simic Spellthief takes the cake. The Rakdos Searcher is too situational and smells a bit too much like a "win more" card, while the Saproling commander doing Saproling things with a lot of Saprolings doing Saproling things as they make more Saprolings doing Saproling things might be a bit too... predictable. Day 377 of waiting for the Grazzet face reveal. Do you have a favourite silver-bordered card? Because recent thoughts over Unfinity being unfunny have made me wonder if I should even bother with the set or just keep my Flavour Judge safe and sound. Maybe your favourite silver-bordered card can change that? Who knows.
Glad you enjoyed the build as always - despite your preferences for the Garth! Its looks like Ivy has a solid lead on the competition, so hopefully you'll be seeing that build soon! There are so many fun silver boarded cards this its hard to choose one... Emcee though is the first one that came to mind since it was so ridiculous to do the announcer voice for every creature to get the counter.
@@GrazzetMTG What do the sideboard upgrades replace? I didn't see what they replaced. I have some and am curious about what you would replace with the slightly more expensive cards.
Hey there! First time watching your channel as I was looking for inspiration for Dihada. Thanks for the informative video! Question: Is the narration VO done via text-to-speech software? Not to be overly critical, but the narration is fairly monotone, but more so, there are several instances of this tone pitch drops at the end of several sentences in a row. It's like a TTS bot trying to mimic typical UA-camr speech patterns, but because it's TTS, some the typical UA-cam VO tone shifts are all over the place? Just made it a little hard to listen without being distracted, at times. Thanks again for the video, just wanted to provide some feedback!
Glad you enjoyed the video! Regarding the audio, that is just me - no text to speech. Sadly I'm not the best VA since I have not formal training but I'm working on improving - so hopefully with time the audio will reflect that.
Nah, traxos is way too good to remove. He's such a good dihada uptick target, with his built in trample, giving him vigilance so he never has to get untapped. I've swung with him turn 4 upticked with dihada several times and it's pretty crippling.
Normally, I would agree with you that Teshar and Alesha are superb re-animation focused legends, but after the changes made to the build our curve simple became too high that we couldn't use this reliable anymore. Still, in a lower to the ground build they would make fantastic additions.

@@GrazzetMTG That's fair. I need to test more still, but I just don't like the idea of not having that cheaper legendary to get the +2 off first.
@@GrazzetMTG dihada +2 says you can do that on legendary creatures. But she is not a creature she is a planeswalker. So can she be a target for that?
Truly legendary... though I am still slightly biased towards the Garth build. For reasons :)
My own bias aside, amazing upgrade as always!
Who knows.
Do you know him irl or something? 🤔
@@moreplease394 nah, just a long time regular viewer that waited a bunch of days for a Garth One-Eye deck tech.
DUDE.... your cuts on this list are so off. Teshar AND Alesha are excellent if you're playing low curve legends. I'm so confused...
His deck isn't based around low curve legends. It looks like it will abuse the Dihada's -3 ability to ramp insanely fast into big threats
Normally, I would agree with you that Teshar and Alesha are superb re-animation focused legends, but after the changes made to the build our curve simple became too high that we couldn't use this reliable anymore.
Still, in a lower to the ground build they would make fantastic additions.
@@GrimPrism it does that once then you gotta spend a turn on the +2
I love the content of the videos but I can't stand the damn synth voice :(
