- In this video I go over my optimization settings in the Oculus UI as well as the debug menu. I also go over the iRacing optimization settings for VR as well. These settings are for my current equipment listed below. You can taper these settings to the equipment your running.

Disable Automatic Bitrate Adj. Set encoding rate to 960 and use Sharpening at own dscretion. I run this on my 3080ti with 90Hz no issues.
Thanks Mark! I pinned this so everybody else can see it. I'm using these settings with good success and I'm running a similar setup with a 3090. Cheers!
So why 940mbps? The default maxed 200mbps is sufficient for double the resolution needed? Can you check, please?
That's just what I run and it works. Couldn't tell you the science on it. I run max graphics settings. @@imad1996
Not quite sure what you mean, should I turn off link sharpening?
Please tell us how to get rid of the shimmer!
Personal thank you,,,, really appreciate the video. The debug tool may have been my missing link. Looking forward to tying the new settings. Glad you discovered the ctrl v trick. Cheers!
Wow, what a difference. Thank you so much for sharing your set up. Once I found out about the debug tool and copied your settings it was a completely different and visually amazing world. With your settings, I notice my FPS bouncing between 90 and 89!? Is this normal? On occasion it dropped to mid 80’s and I did notice a shutter. Guessing I just have to play around with the iracing graphic settings till I find a sweet spot for my system. Wanted to love VR and I think I’m finally doing so! I hang out in the FF11600 trophy class, hope to see you on track soon. Thanks again for your time and effort. Truly appreciated and I’m sure you will help many others on this Quest 3 discovery. Cheers!
Great video. I am considering trying VR. Love the kido around 6:30 who waits patiently.
Ah, thank you sir. Sure wish he was into sim racing. lol. VR is a game changer, you'll never go back! Hope you try it.
@@AJRRacing-eg2nc my son has a quest 2 that I am going to try. If I like it I will get a quest 3.
If your gpu struggles you can use open XR and set up foviated rendering.
Thanks Kirk! I've been meaning to try it, just been putting it off. Sounds like it works good for you. I'm sure I'll be trying it soon as I'm always looking for more performance.
"Distortion Curvature" is what it's called on the Oculus debug tool but I'm not sure which is better, when referring to foveated rendering.
If you're using the Link Cable or dedicated 6E WiFi you can go up to 800Mbps I'm not sure it's GPU vs network capability. I'm on a 4090 but can't open the Quest 3 until xmas with the kiddos.
Interesting, I would love to hear back on that, when your able to test your quest 3. (for science!)
How is it working for you with the link cable?
@@thomasthemarstrain2141 The link cable is the only way I can run iRacing stable and at 120Hz. With WiFi I could only get 300Mbps encoding vs the 850mbps on the link cable.
You have to use Ctrl-V also if you leave the zeros and just copy-paste the “ones” place.
So should you prioritize using an anti aliasing mode like fxaa or smaa and lower msaa to compensate? Or should you prioritize keeping msaa samples as high as possible even if that means disabling the anti aliasing mode. Msaa 8x anti aliasing off vs msaa 4x anti aliasing fxaa for example
I'm not an expert here. It's kind of personal preference I think but, I don't like to use the in game anti aliasing. I turn it on in the Quest 3 settings. So short answer, no if you're doing it my way but in theory I think you could. If you find better results with your idea, please share here with the group. Cheers mate!
I guess the usb port cannot sustain a reliable connection above 500mbps. For me, running 4090, the best with iracing is virtual desktop with h264+. I run higest, 120fps, but I use openxr and narrow down the FOV.
That is interesting. Everything I've researched told me that using virtual desktop causes latency and impute lag but to each their own. I couldn't live without my FOV so 90fps is just fine for me.
To get better performance,
Wouldn’t it be better to have all cars to something like 20 (8) etc? As you don’t need to see all the cars
This is true, you can get better performance by doing that.
@@AJRRacing-eg2ncI found using 72hz at full render works better for me. I have a 3070. 90hz just didn’t seem to look as good for some reason
Are you guys using OpenXR or just the Oculus mode when running iRacing? Been using OpenXR and have tried Oculus mode, but they don't seem to differ at all. I can't seem to dial it in, but i'm also a first time VR user. It just feels like the graphics aren't the best, for example anything at any sort of distance seems a little "waivy" or "ripples" if that makes sense. I have a pretty decent PC with 4080 GPU and i9 CPU. If anyone has additional tips, would be greatly appreciated!
Also - I am consistently getting 90FPS on my headset, it's just the resolution that doesn't feel crisp. Using the Link Cable to connect to my PC.
Hey Adam, I think your referring to anti aliasing. Make sure you have this turned on in the Oculus settings and in iRacing. I've found that Oculus is better than Open XR personally for iRacing. If this is your first headset than you don't really have a reference to compare. There are some compromises in graphics for VR because it requires more resources than 2D monitor. Being someone who's been in the VR game now for 5 yrs. I've seen quite a bit of evolution. Quest 3 Is a massive improvement but is also becoming quickley obsolete. What holds the Q3 back is the fact that it doesn't have Display Port so you get compression. VR tech is moving at a very fast pace right now. The future is bright. Lot of HMD's coming out in the next 12 months. Should be very interesting. Anyway, thank's for the comment and hope this helps your video quality! Happy racing out there! Cheers!
How do you remove the proximity grid that keeps popping up when I put on the headset?
I think you're talking about the white gridded screen? Select the desk top icon in the semi circle around you with Q3 controller
Thank you so much for that! I was wondering why I get that sound stuttering. I shall try this and do an updated video. Thanks again David. Cheers. I wonder why it goes to 960?
@@AJRRacing-eg2nc It doesnt go over 500, but for a bug of the app its possibile go over.
