Super smooth video work Matt! I’ve been a Pace 3 user since day one and updated from the 2. Fully back your thoughts after 100+ days. I’m using it as a running watch only, so no cycling or 24/7 wear. What I appreciate is that it’s a no frills, get the job done kind of watch and software platform. All the stuff you need without the additional clutter. Pace lag is indeed a bummer but on the other side the compact size, the low weight and Coros track record for software support is a big plus in my books. Cheers!

Happy Pace 3 user here, thank you for this review brother. Been using the Pace 3 for quite a while now and coming from someone who hates charging their watch regularly the battery life has been solid for me. I also like how the app is user-friendly and how the metric is easy to understand.

@@mlegrand I also liked how you illustrated that (and I’m paraphrasing) for the average normal casual runner, the GPS tracks on most COROS, Garmin, Apple, etc devices will be just fine. I think people get caught up in micro analysis - great points Matt!!

I actually picked up the Coros Pace 3. I was comparing it to the Fr255. What pushed me over the top was that I liked Coros updating old devices. Glad to see its holding up for you that was a big concern of mine feels so light like a toy almost on my wrist
I'd still probably want a screen protector. That'd be the same for the FR 255 but so far mine don't have many scratches that I can see. 👌

Love my Pace 3, I've had it since late February. I've never had a Garmin (or any running watch, for that matter), so I can't compare. I turn off the notifications and the touchscreen as I'm happy using the dial. I use an HR strap for more instantaneous and accurate feedback, but on the rare occasions where I run without the chest strap, after the run, the HR results are in line with that of the HR chest strap monitor. I appreciate the sleep monitoring as it helps me be honest about my actual bedtimes and encourages me to give myself a better chance of good sleep by going to bed earlier. I only use the Pace 3 for running and hiking. I'd like the Pod 2, but as that came out a while back, and I'm more focused on base building with HR, I'll wait for the Pod 3 as the pace is laggy. Very happy with the firmware updates since purchasing the watch.

Solid, objective, summary of the Pace 3 and the Coros ethos.
Given the price-point of the Forerunner 255 (USA) I would say the Pace 3 takes a distant 2nd. With respect to the Forerunner 165 tough call but between the two and it really depends on each individuals' use case.
Matt, consider doing a review of basic running watches like the Timex Ironman, Casio G-Shock DWH5600 and GBD200(both now sync with Strava). Then compare with the budget modern watches like the Pace 3 and the Forerunners 55, 165 or 255.
Maybe throw out tips on using a more basic watch for runs/activities and the possible upsides. Showing a progression of change that has occurred with tech and fitness.
I only mention this because in this 100 day review you touch on it while discussing GNSS chipset accuracy and the lunacy that comes from obsessing over specs and data.

@@TheManWithTwoWatches - For my voice audio, I use the same mic and do the entire talking stuff in one sit. Then I mix in background music and other sound design stuff. I still think my audio could be better. Sound design is a super interesting part of production work. 🤔

I just picked up the track edition pace 3. I am highly satisfied. I am not a triathlete .., and I am a very non elite runner.., but I have a Garmin Instinct 1, and an Apple Watch 3, so I was up to try something new. so with 229, plus an additional free watch band.., I am good.
maybe in a few years I get the latest and greatest AW ultra.., but the 1 & 2, just dont do it for me.., and who know what Garmin is up to at that point .., maybe I go back by then. anywho ...., great video

Well . . . I agree to some extent. I wear so many different watches here on this channel. The MIP displays are underrated. Great battery life and look great outdoors. But the brighter AMOLED displays are nice when swimming and glancing at your splits under water. I also love their higher resolutions. I wonder if COROS will ever dabble with an AMOLED display. I bet they will at some point. 🤔
*deep things incoming* So strange how world and life works. I got a sad news yesterday, that I need to stop running high volume, doing ultras etc due to a chronical illness that can/will kill me at some point. And the first night after, I dream that I was given this watch by a couple of friends on my birthday to cheer me up. My wife got super upset 😂"You are not supposed to run far anymore!!" And I just threw away my smartwatch straight away and put the Pace 3 on. Unfortunately I woke up before I got to do any training with it 🤣 And then I got to work in the morning and saw your video. Haha. Hilarious and spooky at the same time 😍
Best of luck with the health stuff going on. Hopefully there is another passion project that you can dive into. I’m a bit gutted that your doctors don’t want you to run as much.

I used to be a college distance runner, but I took off time from running. I am getting back into it. Projected to do my first marathon in April 2025. I am a 57 year old woman looking for a watch to help with tracking, planning workouts, and recovery. Suggestions?
Hi Amy,
I was a long distance college runner also! I have a lot of suggestions for you to consider. This COROS Pace 3 is an excellent option. I don't think you'd be disappointed with it at all. I would also highly recommend you check out the Garmin FR 165 (I'll have a video in a week or so about it) but it's excellent and it's ideal for a budget marathon training watch ($250). It has a music edition that cost more and I don't think is necessary but I do like the color options of the music editions. 🤷♂️
My wife also gets to test a lot of running watches and lately she's been wearing the Garmin Venu 3 (video here: ua-cam.com/video/Q7JfejqxJek/v-deo.htmlsi=Kjq4ef8fwTW5Q4Yz). The Venu series is designed to be a little bit more of a smart watch with a speaker and a microphone and the Garmin Forerunner series of watches are aimed at more serious runners. But either of these watches would be wonderful for marathon training.
There's also the Garmin Forerunner 265 which is a very nice watch. It's a step up in features from the FR 165. (another video: ua-cam.com/video/Es5PO2ifwsQ/v-deo.htmlsi=IVJTWhTkdrlZAyPH)
Ultimately, I think you'll be really happy with any of these watches and I would recommend looking at some of the color options and styles to help guide your purchase. You do have to wear it after all.
And with regards to training. Start slow and then go ahead and slow down a little bit more out there. Us retired distance runners have the tendency to settle back into our old 'easy' paces.

Awesome Vid Matt! But I think you haven't touch much about the most recent update & some of it are annoying for Pace 3 users at very least 😅.
I think Coros did somehow mess-up the update this April-May like Backlight issue, Auto-Rep, Activity UI - but not a deal breaker and something they could improve in next updates.

It depends on how you define ‘performs’. I’ve found gps accuracy to be good on both and heart rate accuracy to also be similar. The Instinct 2 did better in open water swimming than most watches but I think I’d choose base on which one looks the best to you. The Pace is smaller and lighter and the Instinct series is designed to be larger but more durable. The Instinct 3 could also be coming in the future. On point as always. Coros dual band gps watches are laggy. My Pace 2 is more accurate than my new Coros Vertix 2s. I got my first gps watch at age 40 (10) years ago. I ran from age 14 to 40 without a gps watch.

Between this and FR 255 - I’m completely confused.
I’m somewhere between beginner and intermediate runner, training for my first marathon, and got a fair bit of half marathons lined up this year. I always carry my phone while running, and currently have an Apple Watch SE. I’m looking to switch that for either the Coros or the FR 255.
What would you recommend?

I need a watch for military training for running and swimming, and I would appreciate it if I had the option to play music and download offline maps. Do you have another watch with these options and features?

That's a hard one. Typically if you're looking for offline maps, music and durability (military grade) it ends up being pretty expensive. I recently reviewed the Suunto watch which might be worth looking at.

I wanna switch my Apple Watch SE2 . Coros pace 3 will be a good choice to do it or better to buy Garmin? I just want to track my marathon prep without any music, notification etc. One more question is how they are working with intervals running?

@@yi8031 - The 255 has a few more features but not as sharp of a screen. If you’re mostly running, either would be perfectly fine.

I know as a reviewer that perfect GPS tracks should be super important to me but. . . I’m typically paying attention to my actual run more than my GPS plot points.
@@mlegrand GPS track comparison is the equivalent of “pixel peeping” in digital cameras. There’s a certain point where it’s totally fine. I appreciated the honesty because it’s so true.

been considering this watch fir a few weeks. i’ve been running w/ the apple watch ultra v1 for the last year and the gps has been iffy at best. I’ve been using the runna app for marathon training and measuring runs on my watch has consistently been off my partners wahoo watch by .25 mile at times. is it worth the adding to the collection to compare the two?

No it doesn’t control music on your smart phone. Only the mp3s that on the device.

The FR 265 is a significantly nicer device. I'd say the FR 165 is a more comparable device. Currently I'm not seeing any huge deals on the 265. I see 7% off: amzn.to/4dXfxLi But it's a very nice device.
if you look for a cheaper but better option instead of the Pace 3 then take a look at the forerunner 255

hello i am new to these watches, i do only running and some gym session addition to this i play football.. which one is best for me coros or FR165
I have a 165 review coming up in another week or so. It's really great. I'd probably go that way unless you think you need the triathlon mode. I'd also look at the Garmin Forerunner 255 which is on sale right now: amzn.to/3Ks9IHX

@@aswin0736 - The 255 is an awesome option. I also saw that sale price. I guess it just depends on if you’re ok with the MIP screen or if you want the AMOLED option.
I have the Garmin 745 and I have to charge it 2 times per week.
As these lithium ion batteries get older they really start to give out. I typically start to see issues after about 2 years. My older brother just upgraded from the Garmin 745 to the 265 which is a pretty amazing watch. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
I disagree with your comment about the GPS not being a big deal. In your comparison about back in the day you ran without GPS. Yes back then they either didn't have it or it was garbage. In today's market if you are going to want someone to pay hundreds of dollars and your competitors have accurate GPS, then yes its a big deal. No excuse from a company that sponsors runners across many categories. Love your content. Keep it up.
Good point Nicholas! I could have shown a lot more GPS plots in this video but I always worry about that stuff getting repetitive and boring but I had a mix of results with this watch. While COROS is known for its running watches, the triathlon mode seems incomplete without advanced swimming features. Swim training, especially drills, is crucial for triathletes. Without these, the watch isn't appealing to serious swimmers/Triathletes. (in my opinion)
COROS's goal to attract triathletes is great. But to reach this group, the watch needs to work well for all three sports: running, swimming, and cycling. A running watch with a triathlon mode isn't enough. So at the moment I would definitely not recommend this watch to triathletes. Better options would be Garmin FR 255 or more premium the 265
I agree. I know that COROS is very aware of the missing drill mode from their swimming activity profile. I expect that they’ll eventually get to it. 🤞

I'd either get the 955 or the 255 non music. If you're sure you need music, the 955 has more memory space.

Good Vid .100% agree on pace laggy & I dislike that you have to pay $$$ for Pod to fix that issue. If I have to buy GPS watch today I'd buy Garmin 255 (non-music) over Coros Pace 3 .Why ? I like MIP 1.3" screen , GPS as good as Fenix 7 ,but I do like Coros App more than Garmin.

Is the pace laggy that much?like 10-20 seconds? Because if so, it basically could destroy my 30s interval session.
@@khueta2804 Well, I had pace laggy issue even on my easy run let alone speed work. I own 4 Coros watch from Apex42 , Apex46 , Apex Pro & Apex 2 . All have same issue. End up switch back to Garmin 255.

That's a tricky call. I think I'd go 255 which has been on mega sale lately. It's really good.

Releasing an OLED version alongside the MIP version will attract more buyers. For some people, MIP display is just too unattractive.

so watch the whole video and have no idea what the watch does or doesn't do..... on its own or compared to other watches..... have no idea why people think was a good review.... i'm guessing square wheels are also good for these people too
