Given all of the pressure from the water in the aquarium, this small amount of additional weight shouldn't make a noticeable impact in terms of durability.
Hey Thomas, I just bought the large version of this Fuge. What’s my best option for a light? I see you have a tunze 8831 in there. Is that the best option or is there a better option. Also if I went with the tunze is one ok for the large size
Hey Thomas will the eco chic Led light 8831.00 fit inside the advance large figi cube long ways I know they are both 12” long will it be too exact or will it fit jus right? And do you kno when y’all will have more cleanchaeto on the BRS website? Jus ordered the large figi cube I need fuge light and starter pack to get running. Thanks Thomas!!!👍
These are discontinued, but CPR Aquatics makes three sizes of HOB refugiums that might work for your setup. Link below if you want to check them out. www.bulkreefsupply.com/brands/cpr-aquatics.html
If you plan for the refugium to be a main component of your filtration system, about 10% of the display is a good rule of thumb. So in your case, about 10-15 gallons. Of course, smaller refugiums will still work, they just won't be quite as effective due to the limited size and amount of algae you can grow.
Not from Fiji Cube, but AquaMaxx and CPR Aquatics both make more basic HOB refugium options if you wanted to check those out. Of course, you could simply just not use the dosing ports or probe holders in the Fiji Cube version 🙂
You can reverse it. I have the large model. That's how im currently using it. The pump that comes with it is trash. I replaced it with a sicce nano pump.
@@akatonyhsame, IM lagoon 50 gal aio. The large version fits perfectly. The only issue is if I were to get a skimmer, the medium hob size would be a better option, if gone down that route.
@@navada718 Yes, that was one of my main concerns that why I was shooting for the MED size. I do have the NuvoSkim DC™ AIO Protein Skimmer [Midsize] on the right side of the tank right before the last end chamber.
Let's say I ditch my old hob filter for this refugium. How can I run carbon, and what about filtering for detritus? Can someone point me in the right direction? I need my nitrates lower theyre 20ppm after water change and then a week later I do a 60% because they're at 45ish.
You could always run some carbon in a media bag in this HOB refugium. That said, it won't replace your mechanical sponge filtration, so it's not necessarily a substitute for a HOB power filter.
I have this Hob refugium in large. The stock pump is garbage. Replaced with Sicce Nano pump. Additional accessories purchased for refugium: 1/2 inch 90° Elbow Barb x Male Thread 1/2” Schedule 80 90° Elbow Barb x Female Thread Black Vinyl Tubing 1/2" ID Two little fish ball valve
How would I plump my sump for cultivating copepods and amphipods? My sump goes: reef mat --> refugium --> skimmer --> bubble trap --> return If plumped that way, wouldn't the pods get wiped out by the skimmer and bubble trap sponge and the reef mat on the way back down? Would it be better to add a closed loop HOB refugium for pods?
Your pods in early stages will make it out they are microscopic and easily pass through your filtration, once they are into the tank they will reproduce there as well. It won’t be the same density but they easily get out Into the tank
Had the old CPR one it was great but how will a rimless tank handle the water weight over time? Very tempted

I really want one - I'll wait for a sale - which should be soon - right???
I would like to see a hob refugium on a red sea max nano 20 just to see the setup. The videos available are not clear.

What led do you recommend for this Refugium? Is it the Tunze Eco Chic I see you added it on the side
The EcoChic works really well. That is indeed the light that you see in this video 🙂
How many inches can the adjustable arm brackets move? I have brackets for my skimmer and UV hanging on the back of AIO that this would need to clear.
Definitely need one what light are u guys using on the side?

If you find that you'd like to replace the pump, I would suggest a small Sicce pump like the syncra nano
