- We're Isis & Bertus. In the summer of 2023 we moved into a neglected farmhouse in a tiny village in the northwest of Italy. The last inhabitants left some 10 years ago, but large parts of the property have been empty for over 20 years.
Thank you for joining us on our adventure!

i understand why many foreigners choose Italy, the magic of this country has no rivals
Thank you for the conversational subs. ❤️❤️
A joy to watch. Cleaning up takes time and some thought as to the "future" plans. One small step in a simple life is a true pleasure.
Sich a nice touch to lift our view up with the drone when the wood butterfly took to flight💖
that was a happy editing moment when two fragments of footage unexpectedly told a a little story together :-)
I love seeing Velluto ❤
I am so happy that Velluto is choosing you. He, obviously, knows a good thing when he sees it! Your place is amazing, and all those cherry trees!❤
That colour of the soup was magnificent. Stinging nettle helps to reduce inflammation.
always looking forward to your videos because you guys take the time to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the place while keeping up with your renovation game plan.. thanks for sharing with us your journey and the beautiful cascina 😊
A wonderful walk in the woods, beautiful surroundings, mountains, forest, river, until you can smell the spring while watching the film. Each time more and more progress, changing everything around, changing for the better step by step. Velluto came into the house, I smiled widely to myself and touched, you can see that he is more and more confident, less and less afraid and I hope that soon he will stay first for a few hours and then permanently, I wish this beautiful cat and you. Put a blanket and a toy next to the bowl, you can even make a small pompom yourself and sprinkle some catnip to encourage him. Greetings and see you, have a good week and good weather.💚🍀🐈⬛
Yeah, it's a very hard working man's hat 💪
Another beautifully shot video, it really is the most spectacular location, so tranquil and quiet, nothing but the song of the birds as your daily accompaniment. Plus the occasional clay pigeon shoot.
So special to be able to share with family and friends those moments, it’s what memories are made of! The blossom so pretty like a fluffy cloud in amongst all the fresh green foliage.
I knew you’d win over the cat with kindness, plus of course food. Maybe by late autumn she will be happy to stay inside, in the warm.❤
When you were first harvesting the nettles I did wonder if you were in textile or cooking mode. I enjoy nettle tea as well. Brave Velluto!
Regards from Australia 💚🐈⬛😊
Perhaps one day I'll harvest them for textile-making, but that would be something for a bit later in the year when the stems are long :-)
Perseverance is definitely the order of the day with the cement troughs. Velluto is getting brave. How great it is to see. Another half year or so and you may even be allowed to have pat. Cuddles will be a while off I guess. The metal doors look lovely with a paint job. My husband, being Scottish has mentioned nettle soup but it is not a known thing here in Australia. It looked lovely. Best wishes.
Fingers crossed! Nettle soup is so tasty and full of flavour, quite unlike any other vegetable. I hope you get to taste it one day :-)
Love the nature walks you take, thank you for taking us with you! Everything is shaping up really nice and I like the title... Slow living. One of my favorite sayings was, "why do today what you can put off till tomorrow", LOL! Eventually all things will get done, and taking your time to do each project usually means it will look better because of the care and time you took to do them. Good job you two and your friends and family!
You are creating such a beautiful spot...your hard work is revealing itself. I love seeing all that beautiful stone appear as you take away the old foliage..and the green doors make such a difference. It must be so rewarding to see these transformations!❤
it was again a pleasure to watch how your dream is going on and on. Each episode you seem to make small steps but comparing '22 to '24 it gives a good idea of how you are progressing day by day. While you're working hard your video's are given me a restfull moment 😊 🥰
Thank you tante Tine
Thanks for sharing this beautiful place 🤗🤗
Sting nettles are delicious! 💕💕💕
Yes they are!
Congrats on getting that trough removed! How lovely to see the trees in bloom.
Thank you! Looking forward to the moment when we can celebrate the demolition of the second trough too :-P
You can really see your progress and how far you’ve come in the before and after pictures you were showing wow 👍🏻
Good to see Velluto he’s really coming along he’ll be sleeping in your bed no time… See you guys next week❤
So nice to see you relax.
thank you! at was much needed after a few busy weeks ❤️
You two with the hand holding. 😍🥰
I love seeing every peaceful step of your progress! What a beautiful place you have chosen.
Great work on the trough. Goodness, that thing was built to outlast the Colosseum!
I have truly missed your videos and seeing you lovely couple. Than I was thinking of the kitty and than right there she was! I know on the last video she was coming in closer to you so I hope she has let you love on her❤ I love how you keep the outside groomed up. It looks amazing and can’t wait until you all post again. Thank you for sharing. God bless from Ohio Cindy😊
no petting allowed yet! 🐈⬛😅 but we're patient.
I would have an ATV with a garden trailer….
We're saving up for a motocarriola/motorized wheelbarrow ;-)

What a splendid view to enjoy while you relax 😁
Everything is looking lovely!
Well done on removing the trough 😁
Beautiful. Relaxing. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I don't know how old the troughs are, but they were certainly built to withstand almost anything. Spring is very beautiful there.
the troughs are from the 1960s. ☺️
Yeah!!!! It’s here!!
Thanks for the video! See you next week!
Thank you too!
you do great hard work
11:15 Those pincers are available with a larger and flatter head, which improves the leverage at the point where the nail meets the wood - I’m sure you’ve seen them, maybe you even have a pair somewhere. If you’re pulling out lots of nails, they’re the ticket. Also, a lot of people around here use an old band saw for cutting firewood: you can leave it running for a few minutes at a time, push the wood through and drop the cut piece into the wheelbarrow in one go. A bigger investment, but maybe worth it.
we have a bandsaw, but it's too heavy to run on our current electricity network. all in due time 😊
Weer mooi opgeschoten, jongens, fijne week weer!
lovely video, with great editing and composition. Im relieved that trough is demolished, so I am sure you both really are!
Yes we are! Currently gathering the courage to start on the second one :-P
Merci!!!!!!🎉🎉🎉
I admire you for trying the stinging nettle soup ❤
aaah it's really super tasty! we used to have it every spring when i was little. we had a big garden with plenty nettles. ❤️
Have loads to catch up with, haven't been well but will enjoy watching again. Love the colour of your nettle soup, we have the same here and I love the taste.👍
glad to have you back and hoping you're feeling better ❤️❤️
The rubble you are making in the cow shed will make good hard core for your ramp.
Isis and Bertus you have come a far way in the cleaning up operation outside. Those before and after photo's were amazing and shows just how much you have cleared around the Cascina. That trough is finally finished Bertus and that was a lot of work, one down another to go and that was a lot of concrete, well done. The green on the gate to the warehouse is a lovely colour. Everyday all the jobs you do makes the place look so lovely inside and out. Velluto is getting to become more confident and trusting. Have a lovely week end.
Hooray for one trough gone!!!! Woooo! Such a beautiful property to take a walk in and enjoy the seasons. So much better than a house with a little bit of yard around it. I think we have the dwarf periwinkle where I live too. When i was a kid, I would pick the flowers off the stems to taste the sweet pollen and then drop the flowers off the bridge to watch them twirl to the water below and have races.
Velluto is so sweet, I hope he's just a stray and not a feral. Have you heard him meow yet? He seems very quiet.
Thank you so very much for sharing your experiences setting up your Italian farmstead. I'm loving every second and enjoy your style of filming.
we have not yet heard him meow, but he's also not hissing when he's scared. he's basically always quiet.
Vaše videa jsou úžasné.
thank you! welcome to our channel ❤️
Beautiful video. I thought oh good he's done taking the animal feeder out...then I saw the other one!
Haha yeah, we'll be happy happy when we can celebrate the second one gone too :-P
Thank you for the conversational subs. ❤️❤️
I love your floors. Are they “terazzo” tiles? You should consider keeping them as are crazy expensive to use these days which is why porcelain and clay have replaced them mostly. I haven’t seen these used in a house here since the 60’s, maybe early 70’s, even then they got too expensive and Italians moved onto the cheaper alternatives.
So nice to see Velluto again, such a pretty cat and she (?) is slowly being braver 🐱. I enjoy these videos, seeing the progress you are making at your Italian property. I am a DIYer on a much smaller scale. Doing tasks we haven't done before is very satisfying. I assume you haven't had time to hunt for appropriate furniture yet. I look forward to seeing what you find when the time is right. 🌷
it's a he 🐈⬛ we've seen the crown jewels 😅
@@storiesfromthecascina 😹 haha. HE is very handsome.
My cat was lying on my lap, as soon as she saw Veluto in your kitchen she ran up to the tv to take a closer look who that cat was❤
Oooh that is so adorable!
It was heartwarming to see Veluto napping by his food dish, he must be so happy to have his "very own bowl!" - that gets filled regularly. His tentative steps into the kitchen show he is coming to trust he will be safe there.
The segway from the butterfly to the drone shot was stunning, well done you!
The wild cherry bloom is lovely, your new home is truly a magical place. Do you have any plans to use some of the wild cherries?
Thank you so much for sharing your story with us 🥰
would love to do something with the wild cherries but last summer they were all eaten by the birds. and they absolutely ought to get first dibs 😉
Everything looks so alive as you walked about the cascina property. Spring!! Darling Velluto waiting for food is a clear sign of progress! Please give the recipe for the stinging nettle soup, Isis. That trough was a real slog. Ding ding, round two! Hopefully the 2nd trough will come out easier. You both work very hard and it shows. You have great vision, and it has so far been a joy to watch your progress, and no doubt, with each episode, the metamorphosis will delight. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
I'll post the nettle-soup recipe as a community post soon :-)
@@storiesfromthecascina wonderful!! Thanks Isis! 🫶
Do you get that fabulous red sparkling wine from the Asti area that has a foam head when you pour & is scented with freesias...., the locals claim 'it doesn't travel well' I think primarily because they drink it all! I had it once... in 1969 Never forgotten it... but I dont know its name!.... loved the butterfly transition to the drone.... and also the names for the wildlife.
I think you mean Freisa d'Asti? We haven't tried it yet but will keep an eye out for it. 🍷🥰
Magnifico! 🥰😍🤩👍👍👍👍
In South Africa we say now,now which can mean anything in the near future lol.😂
love that ❤️
Yay you finished the troughs. Excellent video as normal 🥰🥰🥰
Sadly, we still have 1 through to go. Thanks!
Soy una nueva suscriptora de Argentina , me gustaria que pongan subtitulos en español..me encantan sus videos y el lugar donde viven es un paraiso.❤
Just at the bottom-right corner of the screen, you'll find the 'CC' option. Click the 'CC' button to turn on the closed captions, and UA-cam will automatically generate English captions. Now, select the 'Settings' option/cogwheel' and then choose 'Auto-translate.' Next you can select your langueage from the list. 😉
you´re doing fine at your own pace! Keep up the goog Work! i reallly like your videos
Wow, can you share the nettle soup recipe?? ❤
Off course! I'll post it as a community post soon :-)
Beautiful drone shots! ❤ Do you have a problem with flies and mosquitoes outdoors this time of year?
flies only in spring and fall, summers are too hot for them. mosquitos barely, which is such a blessing!
@@storiesfromthecascina indeed!
👍
2:00 : I think you should get 2 Golden Retrievers. They'd be besides themselves during that walk.
Beutiful place. Must be awdome to sitt and watch all of that.
Nice metaldoor, are you planning to put insulation on or is the metaldoors in coldspaces?
it's currently in a cold space - warehouse/garage.
Ypu need to put your fresh grass cuttings in to your compost bins as well as scrap food waste from the kitchen
🥰🥰🥰🙏🙏🙏
Bertus... no hat??? Ah that's better!
Do you have a timeline for the future renovation of the big house. No hurry I know but just wondering. Lovely videos. Watching from NZ.
we have a timeline in the sense of "an order in which things will/have to happen", not in the sense of a list of due dates 😊
We'll see what we can do :-) And thank you!
🌟👏👍🍀💐
Maison Sauvage channel had a similar over engineered drinking trough for cows and it took for ever to remove it. What is it about farmers that they leave so much around a farm a mess but spend ages and lots of resources building something which could be done for a lot less and in less time?
Got a bit romantic, maar bon!
🧚♀️
Are you still thinking of tearing down the large newer warehouse-style building that is blocking the view?
about half of it will go. it was always the plan to keep part of it. :)
18:05 Yep! It’s over, at least on this side. Do you pay for the champagne?
we saved the prosecco for when the second one was gone too :-)
Where, may l ask, are you planning to erect a big solar power array in the estate? Then when will the rehab work for your mom's cottage start?
we have learned that in italy you never know when things will start. it can either be much sooner then expected or much later 😅😉 and actually we like it that way.
Vacuum the hat?
might give that a try sometime :)
Isis i noticed that you 're getting thinner,Italian diet and living in nature are doing you good
🍕🍷😉
Do you have to do slow breathing with slow living or just no breathing? Getting so sick of hearing this slow living, it doesn’t even make sense.🙄
🐈⬛
When the female laughed when you took the aerial that was held by a single nail, was it that funny or is it because anything amuses her, it certainly wasn’t that “hilarious” keep it real….sensational 🤣🤣🤣
🐈⬛
What a rude comment to make. You should be ashamed. (Not you Bertus and Isis)
❤
