Nerja has become the Costa del Sol’s number one holiday destination for the discerning traveler. Pretty, charming and tranquil, Nerja has something for everyone!
Nerja, on the eastern Costa del Sol, is a seaside resort of sandy coves sheltered by the impressive Sierra de Almijara mountains and often referred to as ‘The Jewel of the Costa del Sol’. A temperate climate means that Nerja is a great place to visit at any time of year. There are plenty of things to do and see in and around Nerja. The beaches are varied and many with crystal clear water, ideal for bathing throughout the summer and even in the winter with Temperatures of around 20°C in November.
Nerja is a resort town along southern Spain's Costa del Sol. Its seafront promenade, Balcón de Europa, tops a promontory with views of the Mediterranean and surrounding mountains. Below it lie sandy beaches and cliffside coves. Cueva de Nerja, a nearby cavern with unusual stalactites and stalagmites, hosts popular summertime concerts.
Nerja is one of the most popular destinations along the Costa del Sol as it offers a unique blend of beautiful landscape, clean and pretty beaches, and opportunities for both water sports and hiking activities.
Nerja is mainly known for its natural beauty, and walking along the Rio Chillar is one of the best opportunities to soak up the gorgeous nature of Spain's southern coast. Admire the magnificent rock walls, wade through the crystal clear water and dip in one of the pools as a reward for your hike.
Nerja, a whitewashed municipality on the eastern side of the Costa del Sol, is renowned for its beautiful beaches and the Balcón de Europa. It also, however, boasts a rather vibrant and varied nightlife, especially in the summertime.
In the center of town, you will find one of the most emblematic structures in Nerja, the Balcón de Europa, a balcony above a cliff that looks over the sea, the views here are truly mesmerizing. The old town is very Andalucian, it's full of white-washed houses, and pebble streets.
The distance between Malaga Airport (AGP) and Nerja is 56 km.

Hi from a very cold and wet UK. Can't quite believe we might expect this on our 2 week holiday there from tomorrow!

Well here we are, back from our holiday in Nerja, not quite as we expected I really must say.
Expect to pay at least 70 euros each way for the taxi from Malaga.
The video is quite misleading, as it shows the pedestrianised part of the town, with its multitude of bars, restaurants and shops. Much of the town is far different from this, with heavy traffic continually passing along narrow streets, which leaves you constantly dodging cars and scooters. This is the general tone throughout a large part of the town, just not the pretty whitewashed scene you see in the video, rather more shabby and run down.
Our accomodation was a short distance from the area shown in the video and we were faced with the traffic noise and exhaust pollution throughout the day.
A local fiesta was held half way through our stay and blighted the whole holiday experience. A travelling fairground was set up pn a large car park just a short distance away and the noise levels on my phone app were astounding, keeping us awake until almost 5am at times.
Prices also came as rather a shock, expect to pay 12-18 euros for a simple tourist meal, much more for a 3-course dinner, half litre of local beer at 3 euros, spirits at 6 euros.
The number of beach and street beggars and hawkers is disgraceful and annoying.
I don't recommend Nerja and would not go there again.
