The Cowboys coulda had 3 hall of fame talents in their first 3 picks, (Travis Frederick woulda been a hall of famer without the disease he had) and hard to imagine them not winning a super bowl. Taking Taco Charlton over TJ Watt in 2017 was also brutal
Hmm I wonder what major change occurred in the lions organization in 2016. People write ansah off as a bust but neglect the fact his team suddenly stopped blitzing when Pateicia got there and had the fewest sacks in the league each year he was coach.
Tavon Austin still has the Best College Highlight Tape on UA-cam. He was a sight to behold when I watched him in High School and then to WVU. We were hyped when him & Stedman Bailey got drafted on the Same Team.
This is kind of why scouting and assessing talent is always regarded as kind of an art, since it's virtually impossible to fully predict if someone will flourish or completely wash out for various factors. 2013 is probably the best instance, seeing so many 1st round picks being average as best, or outright busts at worst. In fact, you have to look at the late first round to find the diamond in the rough with DeAndre Hopkins, who went 27th overall to the Texans. Travis Frederick and Cordarrelle Patterson also came off pretty late in the first round too. It's also kind of crazy that talents like Zach Ertz, Darius Slay, and Le'Veon Bell only came off the board in the 2nd round. In the third round, you may have heard of guys named Travis Kelce, Tyrann Mathieu, Terron Armstead and Keenan Allen. Rodgers' long time blindside tackle David Bakhtiari had to wait till the 4th round for his name to be called out. Fitting for the Ravens to find gems in the late rounds in Kyle Juszczyk (4th) and Ryan Jensen (6th). Considering the sheer difference in starter level caliber talent found between the 1st and the later rounds, yeah. Crazy is quite the understatement.
I do feel for Johnathan Cooper. It must be hard to lose most of your ability due to injury right out of the gate and then only be remembered as the guy the Cards traded to get Chandler Jones (thanks for that one Belichick).
Honestly I would be totally happy and content with a first overall pick going to an offensive line Tackle that ends up being “good but not great”. A solid starter for the team for 8 season. We all want first overall picks to be flashy and super stars and top athletes. But Eric Fisher I think is a very acceptable first pick.
Especially considering that other than Johnson, he may have been the best player in the top handful. Most of the players who were leaps and bounds better than him (ex: Travis Kelce, DeAndre Hopkins) probably weren't thought of as a top pick when Kansas City was selecting.
Seeing all the busts drafted in the top 10, I think it was a good pick for KC. People want to see the flashy picks, but a safe option that becomes a staple for 8 years is a successful draft pick.
I remember 2013 the first year that I watched the combine and the draft and basically the whole process on the NFL network and the one thing that most of the ex players on the shows were saying that this was a bad class with too many reaches and way too many boom or bust prospects. Lol I think Jamie Duke basically said that nobody was good enough to be a consensus top overall player.
The Chiefs probably had it best in the 2013 draft since not only did they get Eric Fisher they also stole future hall of fame tight end Travis Kelce and he helped them win two super bowls and is on course to surpass Tony Gonzalez.
Vikings had multiple 1st round picks and they all did very well. Sharif floyd was so good before his botched surgery. Xavier Rhodes was an all pro corner for multiple seasons, and cordarelle Patterson is still a play making machine.

As a Vikings fan, nice dish on Theilan. He worked his ass off on ST for a few years before he got his chance at WR. Sorry to see him go but, the cap is the cap.
DeAndre Hopkins, Zach Ertz, Travis Kelce, Travis Frederick, Lane Johnson, David Bakhtiari, Terron Armstead that's a pretty strong class, especially for offensive linemen and tight ends
2013's first round worked out in Dallas. We got an All-Pro center who would be a Hall of Famer if he didn't get Guillain-Barre syndrome. He luckily survived, and even played a return season before retiring. We love Travis "Fredbeard" Fredrick here in Dallas. I hope he's healthy and happy in retirement. 🎉🎉🎉
The Chiefs had a pretty solid 2013 draft. Eric Fisher was a solid LT for years, Knile Davis was decent, Mike Catapano was a solid role player, Eric Kush was an OK Center, and I hear that Travis Kelce guy is a pretty good player.
Saying Travis Kelce is just pretty good is a massive understatement. He’s one of the greatest tight ends of all time. He helped end the Chiefs 50 year drought, he holds the record for most consecutive 1000 yard seasons by a tight end, he almost became the first tight end to lead the league in receiving yards, holds the record for most receiving yards in a season by a tight end, has the record for most touchdowns by a tight end in the postseason, and won two Super Bowls in a span of four years.
Geno Smith is probably the only player from that draft class that is still in the league. It took him 10 years to finally make pro bowl. What a weird draft.
Baseball had a couple good players in the first round that year. Tim Anderson, Kris Bryant, and Aaron Judge (who was a supplemental pick). The saving grace of the 2013 NBA draft was Giannis. Victor Oladipo, CJ McCollum and Rudy Gobert are also good players.
Fish was a big part of the Chiefs LIV win, and his ACL tear in the AFC Championship game the next year doomed them in LV. KC also got Kelce later on in that draft.
One of my favorite moments about Lane Johnson other than being a Solid RT, was when Travis Kelce said "Lane Johnson can't lay off the Juice" 😂. Go Birds!
Man I remember in 2017 Seattle when Dion Jordan had 4 sacks in 5 games and we were all hyped about him a classic Pete Carroll reclamation project then he busted in 2018
LANE PAVER!!!! Lane Johnson is the MF MAN!!!! Best player in that draft and one of the best to ever play right tackle!! He shuts down the best pass rushers every single week!!!
How you rate an o-lineman. Like a kicker if you don't notice him he's doing a great if you can forget he's on the field. The offense was top in the league because maholms could get the time to throw. I feel so disgusting building up a chip but he was a great at his position.
The first round of 2013 was admittedly pretty thin, but there were still some good players selected in that draft if you could find them. Xavier Rhodes, DeAndre Hopkins, Cordarrelle Patterson, Travis Frederick, Zach Ertz, Darius Slay, Le’Veon Bell, Travis Kelce, Tyrann Mathieu, Keenan Allen among others. As a Packers fan, I have some fondness for this draft, as they selected David Bakhtiari and Micah Hyde in the later rounds.
Funny The pats traded out of the 1st round but ended up with like 3 different 1st round players from this draft. Mingo, Cooper and Patterson. But they got Jamie Collins, Logan Ryan and Duron Harmon all three starters for them.
Brandon Graham Tore his Achilles only to come back the next year and get 11 sacks as a 34 year old and he didn’t win Comeback Player of the year. Absolutely stunning
2013 was a mid draft at best, and is one of the worst of its generation. Though if we consider everything since the common draft, 1984 was very watered down by the USFL draft (some very good players in supplemental draft could have gone first, but the actual draft featured nobody who is in Canton right now), and 1992 was also very bad I believe. Also, if you go back to the earliest days of the draft (30’s, 40’s and such), you’ll find drafts where a lot of people didn’t sign. So there’s that too.
@@sportsnstuff5557 In my opinion 2013 is underwhelming, but as a collective, I think we could look at it more favorably than we do the 1984 and 1992 drafts. As you said, Darren Woodson is a borderline Hall of Fame player who may make it in someday, but other than him there aren’t really any others in 92’s draft who I could see making it in unless I’m forgetting someone. As for the actual 1984 NFL draft, there is nobody who realistically has a chance to get into the Hall of Fame. The best players in 84 are probably Irving Fryar who had a very solid career, and to his credit was tenth in career receiving yards at the time of his retirement, and made five pro bowls and a pair of second team all pro selections (if he was on a team that threw more in his earlier years, he could have made more of an argument for himself perhaps, but as is he’s not on that level). Wilber Marshall (an underrated linebacker from those years who was a key player on the 85 Bears and 91 Skins; and the best player on the latter team’s defense in the opinion of the guy who coordinated it). There’s also Boomer Esiason and Keith Millard who won an MVP and Defensive Player of the Year respectively at their peaks, and shoutout to Carl Banks for being much like Marshall, a similarly overlooked piece of the Big Blue Wrecking Crew and making an all pro team in 1987. There were some solid careers among the 84 draftees, but I don’t see any of those guys making it to Canton. If the USFL wasn’t around and the entire 1984 college graduating class was in the draft, then 1984 would have had three Hall of Famers (Steve Young, Reggie White, and Gary Zimmerman). I say 2013 is better than both of those because Travis Kelce might be a Hall of Famer, and there’s also DeAndre Hopkins who has five all pro teams on his resume, and while not Hall of Famers, Cordarelle Patterson and Tyrann Mathieu also have three or more first team all pro selections in their careers.
@@sportsnstuff5557 Its annoying how lesser Safeties than Woodson are in the Hall; also Jimmy Smith has a chance eventually Man Jimmy Johnson was a draft genius before going to the Dolphins

Lane Johnson, Philly loves the man.
@@jacksonconley5117I think he was joking, we all know that Travis Kelce arguably the best player at his position
@@jacksonconley5117it's called sarcasm
@@jacksonconley5117but look at the era he was drafted. At the end of OG NFL and into the current. Right time right place
@@jacksonconley5117 I am a Chiefs fan. My tongue was firmly planted in my cheek.
You make great content!
Cut it out before i smack you
Geno Smith is probably the only player from that draft class that is still in the league. It took him 10 years to finally make pro bowl. What a weird draft.
Usually when I see a guard or tackle go top 5 I’m thinking all pro potential they rarely bust
Barkevious Mingo is my favorite NFL name of all time
The Dolphins also traded up from 12 to 3 to pick Dion Jordan, terrible time for them
Lane Johnson is a future HoFer. Watch him against the best pass rushers. He didn't just consistently keep them in check; he owned them.
2013 was a weird year for sports drafts. It feels like the NHL was the only major league that had a decent one that year
Baseball had a couple good players in the first round that year. Tim Anderson, Kris Bryant, and Aaron Judge (who was a supplemental pick).
The saving grace of the 2013 NBA draft was Giannis. Victor Oladipo, CJ McCollum and Rudy Gobert are also good players.
@@Tommy_WimmerI mean you had a couple fringe stars like Rudy gobert oladipo and cj McCollum but yeah
Also Tyrann Maitheu was also in that draft but didnt go undrafted
5:25 that’s a fresh cut right there
Fish was a big part of the Chiefs LIV win, and his ACL tear in the AFC Championship game the next year doomed them in LV. KC also got Kelce later on in that draft.
Good to know there is at least one guy on youtube from the Sac region. I coach HS football at Folsom.
One of my favorite moments about Lane Johnson other than being a Solid RT, was when Travis Kelce said "Lane Johnson can't lay off the Juice" 😂. Go Birds!
Man I remember in 2017 Seattle when Dion Jordan had 4 sacks in 5 games and we were all hyped about him a classic Pete Carroll reclamation project then he busted in 2018
Never knew you were a fellow 916er 👀🤟🏻
Actually, 1992 might be worse. That draft class has 0 HOF, 0 MVPs, and 0 OPOYs and DPOYs.
Also: Notice how 3 of the 1st 6 ended up in Seattle?
I remember being so hyped about the Mingo pick.
I love the end of the video. Mic drop feel.
What's interesting is how good drafts have been the last 5 years. It's odd how things cycle the way they do.
I’m surprised you didn’t choose the highlight where he caught a pass over Marshon Lattimore’s back in the 2018 regular season
The craziest thing about this video is the fact that Thielen has been in the league for 10 years?
Lane Johnson is an absolute stud
Very unusually, 2013 was not a great draft year for both the NFL *and* NBA.
LANE PAVER!!!! Lane Johnson is the MF MAN!!!! Best player in that draft and one of the best to ever play right tackle!! He shuts down the best pass rushers every single week!!!
Really hoped Joeckel would pan out. Only player my generation from my city. He was really hyped up. Luckily Arlington got Myles Garrett.
J&D Productions just made a 2013 draft class video 🤔 interesting timing
Brandon Graham Tore his Achilles only to come back the next year and get 11 sacks as a 34 year old and he didn’t win Comeback Player of the year. Absolutely stunning
One of those pics was of Chris Long in the dog mask not Lane Johnson as it was number 56 jersey.
1992 has not produced a single hall of famer, though darren Woodson needs to be put in do maybe that will change some day
@@sportsnstuff5557 In my opinion 2013 is underwhelming, but as a collective, I think we could look at it more favorably than we do the 1984 and 1992 drafts.
Collectively I agree that 2013 is better, I just wanted to say that Woodson needs to get some respect put on his name
@@sportsnstuff5557 Its annoying how lesser Safeties than Woodson are in the Hall; also Jimmy Smith has a chance eventually
Man Jimmy Johnson was a draft genius before going to the Dolphins
@@sportsnstuff5557 Darren Woodson was a very good safety, certainly overlooked, and deserved to make it to Canton sooner than he will.
Tavon Austin’s college highlights are STILL to this day some of the craziest college football clips. He was a force in those days and it sucks it didn’t translate to the NFL. I mean I get it because the he was one of a kind in college where he’s one of hundreds in the NFL. He was not human in college and relatively average at the next level. Oh and the ending…lol oh that guy has had the best “and you passed on me” revenge chip on his shoulder. He deserves every freaking penny he’s got and then some. So happy for him and what a humble beast he’s been. He wasn’t ever on my favorite team, or even a team in my division, but he’s one of those players that I’d love to have his jersey just because who he is and how silently dominant he’s been. He’s like a murderous disease. You don’t hear or see him coming and by the time you do it’s too late 😈
