    I use Memrise and listen to Portuguese with Carla. She has a UA-cam and a podcast (both free) and I love that you can change the settings on both to slow it down because sometimes they talk fast. They also have a website that is a pay subscription. But at only $19 or so a month that take you thru the grammar and conversational stuff which is great. Thanks for the recommendations, I’m going to try drops and see how I like it!

    Great info and video. I'm so happy to hear someone who likes Drops because I find it very easy to use and I do my 5 minutes every day. It helps. I also really like Talk The Streets. All your other suggestions are wonderful too. When I actually move to Portugal I look forward to taking lessons with someone or maybe at the university (if they have a class there).

      Of course, I would recommend taking a look at some of the apps/podcasts/videos I mention in this video. The important thing is to be consistent and try to practice daily even if only for a few minutes.

    Thank you for you're video. It's really helpful. Most Portuguese material you find are Brazilian. How is you're Portuguese at the moment?
    i think Portuguese is really difficult. But I learn 30min a day for almost 2months know. I can't wait for the moment I could read/watch stuff in Portuguese.

      My Portuguese is at an intermediate level with all these resources and practicing in my day-to-day life. I can understand most conversations, and I'm working towards reading complex texts and following group conversations, which to me are the toughest!

    Hi! Just wanted to say that your channel is super helpful :) Can I ask if you're still eligible to apply for this visa if you only have an active income from a job? I have a remote job at the moment, so my income meets the requirements but it's not from a retirement fund or rent. Does that still count?

    • @JuliaRochelleAbroad
      @JuliaRochelleAbroad  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Mia, thank you so much!
      I was in a similar position when I applied, and based on my experience, I would say yes.
      I was making money working remotely as a freelancer, and I was approved with this income for the D7 visa. I used a letter from the company I contracted with stating that I worked with them and how much money I had earned in the previous year. I also showed some bank statements of savings I had. Let me know if you have more questions :)
      P.S. saw your UA-cam channel and have already subscribed. You have some great videos!

    Is not European Portuguese .Portuguese is just from portugal

    • @captivatedlunt1895
      @captivatedlunt1895 Рік тому

      We say “European Portuguese” to indicate that it’s from Portugal. Another variation of Portuguese is from brazil. Of course people use the words interchangeably to differentiate the two. And of course all Portuguese is the same, it’s just different variations, slangs, idioms etc etc.

  • @madewithrealdiamonds
    @madewithrealdiamonds 2 роки тому +1

    It baffles me why anyone would voluntarily want to learn European Portuguese given that it's not easily understood outside Portugal. Even the Angolans and Mozambicans have trouble understanding them. I barely understood what they said while flying on TAP, nor being in Lisbon. PT-BR is understood by all, and since you already live in Portugal, then you're exposed daily to the Portuguese variant, so you won't ever experience the initial problem most of us have. You'll understand, and immediately be easily understood.

    • @JuliaRochelleAbroad
      @JuliaRochelleAbroad  2 роки тому +1

      You are right there are a lot more Brazilian Portuguese speakers. It’s a personal decision. I’m mostly learning Portuguese to speak with my boyfriend’s family and intend to stay in Portugal for the foreseeable future so I’m not too worried about communicating in Portuguese outside of Portugal. Anyway I really like the Portugal version of Portuguese 😊

    There is not such thing as "European Portuguese" as there isn't European French, European Spanish, European English.. Etc.
    Gosh ya cute, ya even matched ur necklace to the color of your top (purple brown) and even used for the chapters.
