- A shocking new documentary has hit headlines across the globe. ‘The Man with 1000 Kids’ uncovers the story of Jacob Meijer, a Dutch man who is estimated to have fathered many hundreds of children through sperm donation. But whilst this has enabled many to start a family - does the fertility industry need more regulation? And is it wrong to want a child at all costs? Denise and Sally sympathise with these women as they would have wanted to start a family, whilst Kaye questions whether donor children will forever seek out their biological makers.

My main worry is that siblings will unwittingly marry siblings! Possibly creating children with untold problems!
You would think that 4 women talking about this subject for near 6 minutes, one of them would of thought of that, but nope! And it will not just affect the children, the grandchildren and great grandchildren will also have to chose partners carefully.
Well in some countries in Europe a lot of people are related. These women all went for one type like we see on social media n it played against them.

I understand the women who were lied to, but there seemed to be a ton who KNEW who he was and KNEW he was famous for that and STILL reached out to him for a baby.

I love how people say it's all HIS FAULT when they went "Donor Shopping" Where's the responsibility of the parents? Did these people ever consult a physician or other legitimate source? Being honest, I feel the documentary didn't do enough to ask the opposing viewpoint of the responsibility of those who became parents. The whole netflix doc seemed to be a "Blame Shifting" narrative. None of the "clinics" he was donating to were fined or sanctioned. But somehow it's his responsibility alone?
indeed. You need two to tango. One of the woman (and she was not the only one) admitted she wanted a biological sibling from the donor while she already knew about the big numbers of donations he made. They really did not care about the consequences, just desperately wanted their baby no matter what. Do not care if the baby grow w/o a father, simple selfishness.
Well yes, it is entirely his fault. The fact that a rule is difficult to enforce does not mean it's OK to break it. Fertility clinics all limited donations to 25 children per donor and asked him to confirm in writing he didn't donate anywhere else. The women who did private donation were told by him he would help max 5 families. He lied consistently to everybody.

Realistically they’re are reasons that they put a limit on how many times someone can donate.
''realistically'' you should not create intentionally orphans of their biological father/mother through what is called donations (when is not for free is just simply sales). Accident or unintentional pregnancy are a different issue. No children is happy not to have their biological parents at his side while growing up, otherwise there would not be a desire to know their biological parents.
Many more kids will be revealed by this Netflix doc being released.
These women met a man and did not do their due diligence. He owes them nothing. If you are going to meet a random man, no contract, no medical examination what did they expect? They could have used a clinic but they clearly did not want to pay. You get what you pay for!
I watched the documentary and the first thing I thought was he and may be others are performing ethic cleansing and then when he was in court and he wanted all of the children to be marked with a symbol to represent he was the father. Mark of the beast?

I blame the most women/parents who didn't go to the right channel. What's even more concerning is blindly assuming he's perfectly healthy without conducting thorough background checks. What if he has STDs, for instance?

Most American cities have more than 50k and perfectly normal for a lot of cities to have over 100k people. The likelihood here is significantly small.
It’s irresponsible, it’s harmful, the children could procreate with siblings and it can cause a ripple effect of illnesses.
They can thank mom for that… not the guy that provided their life.
I think the women are just as responsible.
Plus he is the LEAST DESIRABLE kind of person any rational woman who is not blind, would want.

Many of the mothers and children have met and formed a community and support system with each other. So it makes it less likely. Many of them do live awfully close together. Two of the moms worked together. They are at least aware they have all these siblings out there and know to ask before forming a romantic relationship with someone. Not saying I support anyone having that many kids of the trauma he has caused but I'm not too worried about these kids.

back in the day. people would procreate through the same bloodline but that did not work well because inbreeding caused genetic issues. so they procreated with other families and then eventually other races. but the remnants of the past remained in our system. such as your syndromes and even diabetes. so yes, whatever he put out there genetically can become a threat that may evolve into something unprecedented in the future. its the genetic implication and consequences of his actions.
you may not understand or suffer now but in the future, if your child or grandchild decides to marry into his blood line or dna and it causes health issues, don’t come running back to this comment because I work in the medical field and yes it is possible.

I agree with you. Women know that he already has many kids, but they keep asking him for donation, and some are asking him for the 2nd and 3r times. If he is addicted he would not donate if no one asks him to donate.
