So awesome! I gotta say, Spitfire turning LABS into a subscription is massively offensive to the ethos of what that product stands for. I’m so glad they are giving you PianoBook back. When spitfire lost you, they lost the heart of their business. I got so much love for you bro. 👊🏼
Props to Spitfire - I have my own opinions about their decisions in recent years, but I definitely have to give them credit to letting Pianobook back home. I'm also really glad your sounds will be back up on Pianobook. I was lucky enough to keep Claustrophobic Piano, but I really hope new people can be introduced to that absolutely glorious piano library.
Great news! Sampled my first piano (Church Steinway) way back in 2019 because of this great community and STILL use so many Pianobook instruments all the time (tips hat to Rusty Banjo, Soft String Spurs, Tatak Felt Piano, Dictaphone Loop Synth & many more)
Dude! You are phenomenal. One of the people who have had the greatest impacts on my music creation journey!!! Looking forward to continuing to benefit from PB!
This is fantastic news to come across this morning! So thrilled for you and the team. Can't wait to see the stuff you do with this and how it evolves!! Woop! All the very best with it!
Man this feels like finding a pond in a desert man I have waited so long with ofcourse alot of people from the pianobook community of getting this gem site back on track and I love you Christian for doing this for all of us
Great news! I hadn't played an instrument since grade school...then one day the algorithm gods presented me this video of some British bloke on a rainy hill talking about sampled music. And I said, "hang on, what"s this? Could this be the new hobby I was looking for?" Fast forward 2yrs and now I'm learning theory and notating music. Pianobook changed my life as well. Thank you!
Very cool! I was always planning to learn how to sample and put out some instruments on PB... Still haven't got my head around it yet really, the technical/programming stuff I find a bit daunting but maybe this a good catalyst and still planning to get all the Pianobook Artists packs- but great news- !
Ahh Christian .. It was so sad when you handed it over. I remember that video too. Your brave face and 'it's in good hands" but you wear your heart on your sleeve and the emotion on your face and it's the same today. Thrilled and so so happy for you and the Pianobook community.Thank you Spitfire Audio too.
Fantastic news - now the fun begins, that being to make it free for anyone wishing to grow & paradoxically irresistible to support financially. ;) I’m in… full steam ahead.
Fantastic news, Christian! Thanks for your continued passion and generosity of time! Crowdfunding is an excellent idea, as is a small monthly fee to cover costs (or a combination of both). I would say that absolute transparency of costs for running the site (server costs, bandwidth, etc) will help assure financial backers exactly what they are supporting in the new Pianobook site.
Absolutely excited! Haven't been to the site for quite some months myself, but now that you are back in the driving seat, I think I should start uploading new instruments again! 😃. I believe this provides Pianobook with re-discovering some sense of direction, great to see you back at it Christian!
Let’s get to sampling indeed! I remember early on being inspired to start making my own small libraries for personal use after discovering pianobook v1.0. Looking forward to seeing this community re-ignited! ❤
Of all the things I never thought would happen this year, it's definitely close to the top. Does anyone have this on your bingo card? Man! What crazy awesome news!! Honestly, when you lost "ownership" of pianobook and that community started to shun you, it was probably one of the saddest things for me. I felt like if I was going to support you I couldn't do anything with that community. I'm hopeful this will be a magnificent resurrection!
Piano Book was a unique concept in the Musicverse, a marvellous thing for sure and now like the Crows of Holyrood it returns to its true roost…as folks used to say Gods speed and good fortune. 👌
Really lovely to hear this. Very fond memories of submitting stuff to PB back in the day, and the kudos of sometimes getting a shout-out in the weekly review. Would love to help in any way if I can. -Rob @ WI
So great to know that (your) Pianobook will be resurrected, Christian. Since you handed it over in that video a few years back, it seemed to have “withered on the vine”. No one seemed to be in charge, and it was left to other UA-camrs (A Joe Blog Composer, and a few others) to bring new libraries to our attention. Your weekly Pianobook video was required viewing back then! Looking forward to the next step in Pianobook’s journey!
Ooh thank you Christian 😊 yes to decent sampler ! It's so easy to use and works wonderfully. I've just got into it because of Venus theory and the beautiful polyscape. Would love to lob it all together in decent sampler. Recently came to use my labs and BBC SO and none of it worked. Gutted! And my old 2011 Mac which is hanging in by its teeth, will not accept new software but DS DOES WORK with ancient machines. Now making new tunes using what I'm finding there. Still love listening to your tales, keep on keeping on! Big love from the middle of the island. nOrm x
I am so much looking forward to this Christian, Piano book and your videos of that time taught me so much and fuelled my interest in sampling and Dave"s Decent sampler. Never been a great fan of discord I must say. Great news and the very best wishes.
I can safely say that Pianobook changed my life, quite a bit actually. I was involved quite a lot, in my own way, and to me this is incredible news. I am very happy to year that PB returns on Christian's hands. I'm excited to see where this goes.
That's great news, thanks you! The way you communicate reminds me very much to "The Cluetrain Manifesto" published in 1999 when the Internet was about to invade our lives. The key thesis is "Markets are conversations" and this is exactly what you are doing: Talking to us and we can talk with you, and we can create great stuff together.
This is buzzing news. I look forward to see what the future holds just defo hope it stays free and open source. Hope you bring the pianodrop showcase vids back used to really dig seeing a little curated selection of the best new sample packs. Honestly I was so paranoid Pianobook was gonna get shut down as it's such a great resource for broke hobbyist musicians like myself so to hear this news is absolutely class!
Excellent news! Even better was the indication that fences were being mended in the background. :) A lot of skill and ingenuity went into the creation of Pianobook and the material uploaded to it. It should be nurtured and made best use of in as equitable a way as possible. It would be good to try and reward those who contribute to it but if that involves high costs to users it might put people off. If you want to crowd fund, it might be an idea to reward contributors with credits that can be used to gain additional access on the site or to particular libraries etc. Look forward to seeing how this progresses..
Absolute chuffed to bits at this… great news Christian. So happy for you and looking forward to the branding change too and the next steps. I feel that things are really coming together for you and the amazing team at Crowhill and now (Insert new name here)… congrats 🙌
Wow, I could really feel the emotional connection to the project & it hasn’t had the same soul since you weren’t connected. Can’t wait to see the new life this gives it. Congrats, this is great news for the music community
❤❤❤ So pleased... You are an inspiration. I was lucky enough to have a demo track on Pianobook, it may not mean much to most people but it meant the world to me.
Great News. I made a few sample packs and over 50 demos for Pianobook and loved every minute. One of my biggest regrets...not discovering it in time to get involved with ''Music by 300 Strangers'. A great example of the wonderful things this project has created. Fantastic.
HURRAH!!! Such fantastic news. Please, please, please bring back Piano-drop. 🙏🙏🙏 I‘ve so missed it, the instruments, the stories behind them and the processes involved. That little mini-doc was a real highlight of my month, just such a wonderfully creative, collaborative, kind thing… in a world that frequently wasn’t. Brilliant news… I think Concord was probably overrated. 😉🙏❤️😎☯️
Pianobook (and Labs, as it was) has given me access to a range of quality instruments and sounds that I'd otherwise never be able to afford, that inspire creativity as well as the feeling of belonging to a community. So glad that new life is going to be breathed into it, now I just need to get off my butt and return the favour with some samples of my own...... :)
This is so exciting! Would love for there to be information about recording instruments, and especially things that go on in post . Christian had some good videos on some of his instruments from what I remember.
Exciting times!!! Pianobook kick started my music making. I made my first sampled instrument for it out of a milling machine screech from work and then used it on my debut album. It has a special place in my heart! ❤
I've always wanted something like Steam (but for instruments/effects/etc. instead of games) 1 place to purchase, download/update, look at reviews and guides, etc. This also sounds exciting, can't wait to see it!
Hi Christian, congrats on taking back Pianobook again and evolving it. In my view, although it maybe goes against the grain of what you are trying to achieve, is that Version 3.0 would benefit from some kind of selection process from yourself and your colleagues. I suspect that the vast majority of PB users are hobbyists like myself who have limited time and limited hard drive space available to them. Without wishing to denigrate in any way the efforts of contributors who have put time and effort into making what may be their first and only sample library, frankly the reason why I stopped going into PB is that there is simply too much stuff on there, and I lost the inclination to sift through it. Perhaps an idea would be to have a two tier PB where there is a 'PB+' page with what you consider to be the best submissions in terms of quality and originally, and a second page which is open to anyone and everyone? This might also allow you to post a few videos explaining what convinced you that certain submissions 'made the cut', and what others need to do in your opinion to do so, which I am sure that budding samplists would find to be invaluable advice. My sincere apologies if these comments offend anyone; this is not my intention, it is just a view for what it is worth, and nothing more. Cheers!
@@MichaelDowComposer Hi, yes I can see that risk, but Christian has a long track record of building a supportive and inspiring environment for creatives, so if anyone can pull it off, he can!
@@mdoerkse The fact that the Crow Hill Community can express differing views respectfully (unlike 99% of social media) makes me very happy to be a part of it 🙂
I can't say in words just how happy this makes me. My PIANOBOOK samples, in total, have been downloaded just over 17,000 times, but I haven't created a sample pack since you left. PLEASE let me know how to migrate my sample packs to Crow Hill!!!!!
What an amazing bit of good news. I love pianobook, I've used so many libraries from there. Happy to see it back in the hands of people who really appreciate it and want to grow it and look after it. - Who knows, maybe I'll pull together a sample library from my more esoteric modular-generated samples, you can't ever have too many bleeps and bloops, can you? :)
Lovely news! Bit magical really. Chuffed for you and your process as well. First thought: Roy-Scheider-shocked-face:“You’re gonna need a bigger SSD.” Second thought: I want to help out as much as I can, really make it fly.
This is exciting! It used to be great, been a shame seeing it stalling over the past couple of years, I think you're right in that projects like this need some creative direction. So I'm looking forward to seeing what the new incarnation becomes. I'll be there! Thanks, Christian.
Where’s the album?
Great news 👍🏻
Never made it!!! Ha ha ha

Such an incredible moment for the community - I can’t wait to take it forward again with all the lessons we’ve learnt from everyone who contributed.
Glad there will be forward movement again, it was sad watching Pianobook flounder and go silent.

Thank you. Pianobook has been such a help to me. Can't wait for the next chapter.
This is great news for PianoBook and great news for sample creators. Please try and make Hunter Rogerson part of this conversation.
Hunter is a truely a great creator. And Fred Poirier too, he made excellent instruments for our comunity
Qué genial!! Vamos Christian!! Gran abrazo!!
